I've done a little experimenting with creating a page in DIP - question about cropping the photos for my layout. Should I get the picture cropped before I bring it into the layout? I haven't been able to crop the picture after I bring it into the layout.

Most probably why you can't crop in the LO is because you don't have enough memory.
I had this problem but I was able to solve it by changing it 200dpi. Go to format resize image and change the default 300dpi to 200dpi. Then you will have enough memory and be able to crop in your LO.

hmmm...that's interesting. When I tried it, I selected the picture, but when I did the crop, it cropped the whole layout. It didn't get "hung up", like a computer usually does when there's not enough memory. So that's why I thought I was just doing it wrong.
Are there certain steps for doing this that I may not be doing right?

When you crop are you choosing selected object that is the choice you need to use not canvas.

When cropping a photo in your layout use the drop-down method at the top, not the shortcut in the left hand side. Then you are given the choice of cropping the entire canvas or the selected object (make sure the picture is selected). Choose to crop the selected object and crop you picture. Hope this makes sense.

That did the trick for me! Thanks!

OK - another question!
When I bring a photo into my layout, it's huge! So I bring it down to a reasonable size to work with. But if I'm not sure what size I want to end up with, I may play around with the size - try it small, try it bigger, etc. My question is this - if I make the picture small and then drag it bigger again, have I lost some quality or resolution to the picture? I'm not saying that I try to make it bigger than the original - just that I make it small on the layout, then drag it larger on the layout. Quality issues?

Glad the cropping info helped. As to your new question, you won't lose quality by resizing your picture that way. I do it all the time and have never had a problem.
