I am working on a class for Lightroom...
What would you like to see? :)

The first thing that comes to mind is an explanation of maybe how it compares to other tools, and why you would use Lightroom (over Bridge, ACDsee, etc.). I have to admit, I own it, but just haven't gotten my arms around it to use it regularlly.
Maybe highlight what it does well?
I'll think on it and let you know what other ideas I have.

I'm just plain ol' overwhelmed period! I'm not a very good photographer to start with but I have CS2. I was hoping to just try and make some of my pictures look a little better but have had problems with the learning curve. So when I heard about Lightroom and how it was so much simpler use, I jumped on the 30 day trial. I find I'm just as lost. I'd like an explanation of the different modules. How to create presets and how to use them. Importing and exporting, printing, basically a good foundation would be nice. I can't find very many basic tutorials anywhere. When do you anticipate the class being available? I've got my little software savings fund and am really wondering if Lightroom would be a better investment for right now instead of the CS3 upgrade. My Lightroom trial ends in 3 days, and I must say I really am going to miss it! It's a wonderful program to use to edit your photos, especially photos shot in RAW. You can adjust the WB, Tone, Exposure, Fill Light, Recovery, Noise, Sharpening, Clarity and MORE! I love it! But I guess I'll have to get use to Adobe Camera Raw plug-in for PSE.

I know what you mean missaboo! My trial ends in 8 days and even though I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, the few pictures I've played with look soooooooo much better. I only shoot jpgs with my P&S but I can really make things look better. I'm about half way to being able to get the CS3 upgrade with Lightroom. Hopefully the discount bundle will be available for a couple more months! -c-
Shoot about the trials!! I wish I would have written this a couple months ago.

Ok here's something. I have made some very nice adjustments to a couple of pictures but can't figure out how to save a copy of the picture with the changes. I tried web, that made a folder full of stuff. I tried print but that wanted to print to a printer. Is there no "save as" option??? TY -c-
Hi Carlalee :) You just need to export it :) Click on File > Export :) Can't wait to see them! :)

Ok - here is one picture that I played around with. I'm pretty happy with how I was able to get the color. The original sunset was so vibrant that I had to get my camera. I was so disappointed when I downloaded the pictures to see they were washed out, plus I didn't have a tripod so there was motion blur (another issue I know). At least Lightroom was able to salvage the color. The first picture is before Lightroom and the second is after. Imagine what I could do if I knew what I was doing. -c-
Great job Carlalee!!!! :) I look forward to seeing more! :)

I was lucky enough to jump on Lightroom when they first released it and it was $100 less. I've been working my way through Scott Kelby's Lightroom book, this is a really tricky program I find to use. It's really helpful to me though when I do an indoor photo shoot and have a lot of images to crop and color correct. And I like that I can import all my Raw files to DNGs since PSCS2 won't take Raw files from my 40D. I just wish it didn't leave the jpegs behind as I like them when browsing directories, etc. I've just not found the right workflow yet that works for me all the time...probably need to upgrade to CS3, but just can't really afford it right now.
Class is set for April! :)

I really want to take the lightroom class. It says it is sold out, is that accurate. Is it still to be in April?

Typically, any adjustments you make to your photos in lightroom are not made to the "actual" photo, but a kind of virtual copy of your original photo. Once you EXPORT the photos to the file you designate, then lightroom processes the virtual photos and creates an actual photo.
When you attach your camera/media to your computer, lightroom will first ask you where you want to import the files from. At this point you would choose your camera/media. The next dialog box that appears will ask you COPY FILES FROM CURRENT LOCATION TO NEW LOCATION You would then browse to the folder ( or create a new folder) in the location you wish lightroom to place your files. It is here in this dialog box that you would add your keywords. I always choose this option on an import of NEW PHOTOS. Lightroom will now copy all the photos from my media card to the folder I have created.
The virtual photos will now appear in the Library module in Lightroom. You can make adjustments here or in the DEVELOP module.
Once you have made all your adjustments, CTRL A to select all (and bring them all back to the LIBRARY MODULE if you did your adjustments in DEVELOP) and then choose EXPORT . Again, a dialog box will appear. Here you can tell Lightroom where you want the adusted photos to go, you can name the file, what file type you prefer (jpg , tiff etc) the ppi of the file ( 200, 300) . ONCE YOU CLICK OK TO EXPORT, Lightroom will then create actual photos with the adjustments in place and put them in your designated location/file.
So, for example...I import my CHRISTMAS 08 photos ( the originals from the camera) into my EHD..I make any changes in Lightroom . I then export them to the same CHRISTMAS 08 folder, but they are inside a second file labeled LIGHTROOM EXPORTS. So, my finished CHRISTMAS 08 folder now contailns 2 files.. one file of the original photos and one file of the adjusted photos.
this is just the workflow that works best for me. i can bring any of the exported photos into cs for scrapping. You can also set up the photos for printing while still in lightroom, but I have not worked much with that as of yet...But the basic IMPORT/EXPORT flow would still be the same for you regardless of how you print: whether you print your own or send them out.
Hope this is a bit clearer than mud. LOL

Been waiting for this class! Would like to see something on how to edit and improve several or a "batch" of photos at the same time if they all have the same issues. I heard you can do that in this program. Waiting impatiently for April.
