View Full Version : Challenge ME - Plot a Plopper
Elisabeth

I want to try this, just for fun. It goes like this - the next person to post below me proposes a color scheme. I don't mean by any exact method or by posting an image, I just mean by saying, for example, "teals and greens" or "reds and oranges" - that kind of scheme. Then the next person after that says, "grungy and torn" or "bright and clean", etc.
The next person chooses a number of photos for the plopper (one page, make it realistic)
The next seven people suggest an element. Pick something out of a kit I've already made, and don't worry too much about the color; that can be changed.
After ten posts I should have enough to make a plopper; let's see if I can combine it into something usable! Don't try to purposely pick stuff that would clash, you want to end up with a good freebie! Because when I get done I'll post the plopper link here for you to download for a limited time. For those who suggested and for those who might be watching to see what I end up with.
So after input from ten of you, the first ten to post suggestions (only one per person) my list will look something like:
EXAMPLE:
1. peaches and creams
2. clean and subtle
3. four photos
4. flower from [kit]
5. pin from [kit]
6. mat from [kit]
7. torn edge from [kit]
8. frame from [kit]
9. overlay from [kit]
10. ribbon from [kit]
Be sure and choose my products only when suggesting elements - but they can be from the store or freebies gallery or something you've seen somewhere that's mine.
I hope to get this done within the week; should be fun!
Any questions? Starting my list now; as you post below I'll edit this:
ACTUAL:
1. Pistachio green and burgundy
2. whimsical and cute
3. two photos
4. flirty flower
5. mat from dresser
6. cheerful ribbon
7. pearl from VV
8. charm from Sunny
9. postcard from then and now
10. overlay from VV
Does this look like a yummy recipe? We'll see!

Okay, let's see a show of hands - who thought I couldn't do it!
*raises hand* Um, me.
But I did, even though I compromised a bit on a few things, like I got the color choices in but stuck in neutrals too for overall unity, and I'm not sure it's all that whimsical with the elements given, but it sort of matches?
I think I'm going to do this again for birthday week, and maybe sooner. But not tonight! Hope you like this one in the meanwhile. I'll leave the link up for a few days, say until this weekend. I enjoyed making it for you. There's room for a title and journaling; things I think are important with your photos!
Download here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/freebies/Z/temp/49_P_PlotAPlopper.zip). 12 x 12 and 8 x 10 are included.

Hey, I'm lovin' all the layouts! But I have to ask, mels_world1, why you added to the top and bottom of the plopper - do you scrap at 8.5 x 11? I ask because I made some ploppers that size for the store and was asked to change them to 8 x 10 for consistency with the other products. Do you print and put in clear sleeves in binders at that size?
It took me so long to get used to scrapping square that I don't think I'd go back to rectangular, but it's interesting to know what different uses are.

02-19-2008, 10:29 PM
I don't know about mels_world1, but that's exactly what I do with mine. I always scrapped 8.5x11 in paper, so I stuck with the same size for digi. I just stick them in page protectors in a binder. Although it is getting harder to find photo albums that are 8.5x11 binders. I usually buy the kind of binders that have the pages to slip in 4x6 photos, and just take those pages out and put my LOs in instead.
The plopper's beautiful. Can't wait to use it!
Elisabeth
02-19-2008, 11:17 PM
Thanks - that certainly makes good sense! I guess regular notebook binders could be decorated as well, and office places sell those clear sleeves. I've used that for other things but not scrapping.

Oh Z you have outdone yourself..what a neat challenge and some fantastic team work going on....maybe giving us the challenge of doing some quick pages for you for a mini album might be an idea.....interesting..your plopper turned out fantastic...yeah i also use the binder idea to display my pages....i buy the ring binders where you can put a front and back page in and also a spine label..they have clear pockets for the front and back pages and spine...i then add A4 sheet protectors inside..print out layouts and stick them in...pretty successful..have done a few...i just adjust the layouts i do for printing when i print them....been doing more 8x8 lately though....i can get hold of albums that size and print them myself....anyhow thanks for the freebie..you are soo generous...Cheers liz

I love QCs but haven't used ploppers very often. This one looks very cool though--I'm anxious to try it out!
OK, I'm back with a completed LO. Easy, fun, & perfect for my pics of The White Queen of the Gulf (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=244409&nocache=1).

WOW!!! I am totally impressed.....not surprised that you could pull this off....but that it turned out this well. Really cool Z!
You asked a question about plopper sizes and I have to say that most layouts I do are 12 x 12, but my second favorite size is 8.5 x 11 which fit all of the albums that I have. Scrapbook paper and cardstock come in 12 x 12 and 8.5 x 11, so those are the standard sized in my mind. I have no idea why anyone started doing 8 x 10. My printer also prints full bleed to the edge and fits the page protectors perfectly. I can use those albums vertically or horizontally.

You know my guess as to why 8x10 is that most photo frames in the store are 8x10 size.
FrugalByDesign
03-10-2008, 09:15 AM
One more chiming in on the 8.5x11 versus the 8x10 question. I too scrap in 8.5x11, and give "scrapbooks" made from view binders and plastic sleeves. I love doing teh covers - I usually scrap a cover page, slide it in, and then "alter" the front with embellishments.
I have altered the pages inside the sleeves, too, for my daughter's wedding album.

Thanks for all the insight on the sizing everyone!
Anyone who didn't get to participate in this challenge, but wanted to play along before I finished, here's something to think about: I am going to do it again for our Birthday Celebration week. So next time you browse the store, think about any of my stuff you want to see included on a free plopper. And one more hint - look specifically at things you DON'T already have of mine, because - I might just toss together in the same way a free page kit too, and then you'd have that element out of kit X you'd always coveted.
I'll start the thread closer to time for birthday week celebration in early April, but just be thinking about it now if you like!
See the first post in this thread for details on how I put it together the first time.

Scamptx, it will be a forum challenge and I'll post it early in the week (before the big chat weekend). I'll give myself the week to make it and then it will be available to d/l free for a limited time.
Although I see I haven't limited this one's time very well, lol, it's still up.
I've wanted to do another one already but I've alternated between being sick and busy and then it starts all over again and I haven't done it. But I plan on the bday week one for sure!

That is what I do too! 8 1/2 x 11 for me. I just use plain business binders with the clear slip in sleeve things and then I can design my own cover.

I always scrap A4(8.5 x 11) paper size so I can print at home and send to family overseas and they display them in a folder with plastic sleeves.
I've thought about converting to a square but it just get confusing:lol:
