Okay, I am about to go crazy here. I've searched everywhere and everything I can think of here and on the net, and I can't find a definitive answer. Most of the discussions are from last year, so I wondered if I could get some current information. I have Vista, and am TRYING to run PSP XI. It takes 5+ minutes to load up on a fresh reboot. About 10 minutes if I've had my computer on for awhile. It seems to freeze at Updating Cache Settings but isnt really frozen. Its working, just taking FOREVER. Once I do get into the program, it runs painfully slow. You know how a little box pops up when you hover over a button to tell you what the buton is? Well, by the time the box comes into view, from taking so long, its time for it to go away. It comes up sooo slowly.

And now, my computer keeps telling me that it changed something about the colors for Vista. And, I tried to open a picture three times from within the program and it shut the whole program down ubruptly. No error message, no nothing. Just gone. I went into explorer to open the picture and told it to open with PSP, did my work and when I saved it, it didnt save but just zapped into oblivion. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE???

My sister has Vista and XI and says she's had no problems with it. But I know other people have had the same problems I have, from the web. Here's the kicker. I have downloaded the patch thats supposed to make it work with Vista. But it doesnt work.

Is anyone else having these problems? Am I just SOL and I'm goign to have to upgrade to X2? Thanks for your input.

Oh how frustrating for you - I have recently been there ... done that!
I had problems with PSP X on my new Dell w/ Vista. I ended up having to go with XI and everything is working (knock on wood) fine.
My system wasn't taking forwever to boot up, but it would shut down w/o notice w/ nothing saved and when I was able to use it I wasn't able to save the files because it kept giving an "invalid file" error. I had called Dell and they were zero help.
Have you tried a complete uninstall? This is an article I found (you probably already ran across it since you've been looking for an answer - but just in case this is 'new' to you ...)

"Sometimes, if a program isn’t properly installed, the best tactic is to uninstall it completely and then reinstall it. You can do this via Add Or Remove Programs, but Corel recommends you uninstall PSP XI in another way.

In your Web browser’s address location, type ftp://ftp.corel.com. Click the Pub folder, click the PaintShopPro folder, and click the folder X. Select the file Zapps.exe and save it to your Desktop. Launch the Zapps executable file and select Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI from the Product drop-down menu. Select all four checkboxes under Actions and click the Begin button. When the removal is complete, click Close. Manually remove any files from the location where you originally installed PSP XI (likely under C:\Program Files\ Corel). You will now have a “clean” location for reinstalling Paint Shop Pro Photo XI".

...good luck...!!

Hi!
i am sorry to hear that you are having troubles with VI and Vista. i, too, run these same two programs and have not had any trouble at all, thank goodness! But i am interested in seeing what you find out, in case i ever do encounter problems.
Good luck to you in resolving these issues!

After running XI for 3 or 4 weeks using Vista w/o issue ... all a sudden tonight the program continues to shut down - it doesn't stay open long enough to even open a file! HOW FRUSTRATING!
I couldn't find anything on the internet to help me either- checked the updates and patches and found nothing. Right now I'm in the process of re-installing the program ------ :yikes:
