View Full Version : GC March: DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA

So what's all the drama about??? This month I want to see SPRUCED UP photos!!!
If you have never done any photo effect before, try black and white or sepia toned, or selective coloring (where the only certain areas of the photo have color).
Or try something new, create a new photo effect, try a photo effect tutorial, or just experiment until you come up with something eye catching and interesting!!!
The layouts can be completely graphic style or you can use your "spruced up" photo in a layout with paper style items! Be creative and most importantly...HAVE FUN!!!!! :love2:

This is a very basic layout as I have just learnt how to do selective colouring, but I thought the photo leant itself to the topic. Please leave me some cc if you think I have not done it correctly, as I am keen to improve.

What fun!
I alter most of my photos - a photo is a starting point for me - not an end product. I like working with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I did this one recently when I was switching from PSE5 to PSE6 and I have no idea how I did it. I think I sneezed while a cat walked over the keyboard - it all used to be a pretty blue color.
Oh well, I like this one too.

I've done two versions of the same pic. I'd appreciate input on which one people like better. I like the focus of the first one being tight on his face, but the second one ties in the storm better. Thanks!

Can someone advise me...when you do multiple "affects" "treatments" whatever the technical word is...do you duplicate your pict several time and then do one affect on each of the different layers. Or, is it one layer that you do lots and lots of different things on?
Sorry...don't know all the proper "lingo" yet! LOL

It all depends. Sometimes I duplicate many layers. Sometimes each layer will have bits erased. Sometimes its all on one layer. Very experimental with lots of goofing around.
For example in this LO (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=246617) The photo itself has 4 layers and on the page the photo is done in 3 more layers to blend it into the papers.
In the two I linked below the photo was all done on one layer.

Thanks for the info Felynn! After seeing this challenge I tried playing around a bit with PSE6 but really don't know what to do. It seems like every time I tried "something" to the pict I couldn't do anything else to it. So maybe I need to have a couple layers to play with and see what they look like together.
Cassie-in-Texas
03-06-2008, 05:21 PM
Emandlivsmom - Can't speak for anyone else, but I almost always make at least one copy of my photo. (PSE5) I make that layer invisible but link it to the layer that I'll be working on. That way if I resize or move the photo, they're always still exactly lined up. And, then if I erase too much and change my mind later, or make other changes that I regret when I can't undo, I'll go grab a replacement section from my hidden layer. When I'm finished with the layout, I delete the hidden one to save space. But, like Felynn, I can have anywhere from 3 to 6 (or more) copies of the same pic in work, playing with filters, blending, contrast, selective coloring or desaturating, etc. It helps if you've got plenty of RAM on your computer. Just have fun, be willing to experiment!

honestly for me, it depends on what I am doing. Usually I do it on different layers, but once in awhile I want to add an effect to a layer that already has an effect on it, so I just copy merged and paste as a new layer (so that I can work with the image with all the prior effects on it) I dont know if that made sense! Sorry if it was about as clear as mud. Hope that helps!

Cassie...I will give it a try, thanks for all the info and suggestions.
Nicole...does merge do what it sounds like? Merges two layers into one layer? And once merged, can you undo anything?
Anxiously waiting for the weekend so I can play around with this!
Nicole Young
03-06-2008, 10:53 PM
Well, in PSP if you copy merged it simply creates one new layer that is a "merged" image ,leaving all your other images intact. Then if you paste as new layer, this new "merged" layer will be on top of all your original images.

No Drama drama drama about this one, sorry:) and it would have been a better fit in last month's challenge, but because I am VERY graphically challenged and because graphic is WAY out of my comfort zone, and because it is an achievement for me to produce anything "graphic", I am posting this one here:). I have used blending modes, masks (still a rank beginner at those so I am happy to have achieved something using them as well), and I DID turn the small faded photo into black and white, so hope that qualifies this LO for this challenge....and now, after that very long winded excuse here it is:
