Brush Tool In Adobe Photoshop Elements

I am still playing with this at the moment and finding things I haven't seen before. Last night I was looking in the brushes and found lots of shaps, ducks etc. A couple of them are supposed to be flowers but when I paint them on to my background they just look like blobs. What am I doing wrong please.

Did you just stamp with 1 click, or drag it? The images are just stamps, one click will do it. The other tips are meant to be dragged like a paintbrush.

If not, then there's something else...
