HEY, y'all! I've been thinking for MONTHS about starting a thread to talk about using WordArt in creative ways...... And finally I am doing it...! Of course I have one kid whining at me, another about to embark on a craft project that undoubtedly involves eating playdough, and the third telling me he needs to eat - NOW. So, I will get called away shortly, but promise to come back to this again and again..... :)
So. First things first!
Changing the COLOR of your WordArt!!
So, the black doesn't show up, or the white looks all wrong? How do you fix it?! Lemme suggest the PS way that I'd change the color, and I'll come back to talk more about PSE, PSP, and DIP in a few...
I'd recommend using the layer styles in PS... I've attached a screenshot or two to show more of what I mean....... Select the little "f" thingie in the layers pallet in the bottom right of your workspace, and then click on "color overlay". This will give you a dialog box with red as the default color. You can change the color by clicking on the box with the red color sample.
That will alter the bevel and/or shadow that is already on the WordArt, so you'll get to go in and add your own to your own taste.... Maybe we can talk about that another time?
Soooooooooooo... What else d'ya wanna talk about? :)

Love the idea of a thread about Word Art. As someone who is beginning to work more and more of my own Word Art into my pages, I will be watching this thread with interest!
Anna
To change the color of elements in DIP just adjust the hue and contrast.
To change word art in DIP is a little roundabout- but here's how you do it:
Open your word art.
Change to antique
Then go into hue and saturation, and move the balls around until you have the color you desire.
You are finished! Have fun playing with all the colors!
This will be up soon in the tutorial section with screen shots.

I used a One Step Wow layer style with Elements to change the wordart in this layout because black wouldn't show up:

i just started a word art thread in the "fonts" section, so i'm happy to discover this conversation already started.
other than for scrapbook pages, how are you all using your wordart?
i don't like my church logo, so i'm messing with it. i figure i could probably get it switched out on their website first and then we'll see if it takes beyond that.
how do free fonts' usage play out for non-profits like church, anybody know?

karen-b you'll need to ask the makers of the fonts you'd like to use, we can't help you beyond that.
i have a super quick way to change word art that i use almost every time! if it's black and i want it white, i hit control I (inverse) so it reverses to white. if it's white and i want it black, yep, control I! :)
Karen, probably not that helpful to a lot of people here, but I still paper scrap too.
I use word art on those pages. I either print it on cardstock, vellum or transparencies. :)
Oh, Jan, re antique- its something I just discovered myself.
Easy way to change it to white is just click negative.

Donna, WOW is Elements2 One-Click WOW! book with CD. It's a great addition to PSE2. Lots of styles, textures, brushes. I got mine at Amazon.

WOW is well worth the purchase Donna. I have mainly used it for tinting photos but there are some fantastic effects there and only a click away! I love easy stuff!

for anyone wondering what WOW! can do, if you check out my gallery, i've got one page that i created during a chat and then a 2nd version after i put it through WOW! the page shows my ds blowing bubbles http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=4086
Love WOW, use in PSE all the time! Glad you got your bubbles figured out too. I like to fill them with a Pastel Spectrum gradient too, set to super low opacity
Nice job!
