I've seen a couple of layouts (on television) lately where the scrapper made their own printed 12x12 transparent overlays as an addition to their printed digital layout - kind of a hybrid product. One TV host stated that the material has a rough side (for accepting the ink) and the finished side is conventionally smooth. Unfortunately, these shows never name a source or store for this material, nor could I find one on the net. Everything out there appears to already have designs printed on them. Does anyone know of a supplier that actually carries this product? I'm looking for blank, 12x12, inkjet printable transparency film. Thanks much for any info you can offer. :)

OK...no one appeared to have an answer on this site so I searched a few others. I found one source and decided to post the net address, in case anyone else is interested. So here you go:

Ive seen this in standard office sizes - letter , A4 - but never in scrapbook sizes in office supply stores - but then we are definitely behind the trends in New Zealand

Hey, I'm nowhere near NZ, and I've never seen this in 12x12 either.

Yeah, that's what I thought - it's not available...but I was wrong...grafixarts.com does have the 12x12 size. The show host on the television show I watched stated the overlays would be a great idea if a scrapbooker wanted to add a title, word art, frames, et., but also wanted to preserve the integrity of the photo layout. This way you could fully view photos in addition to enjoying a layout design. I kinda thought I could add a color filter within a frame on a section of the overlay for an individual photo special effect. Might be a good idea...or would I be wasting my money? Whatdayathink? Any other ideas for this stuff?

VBliss: unless you have very special ink in your printer, you won't be able to PRINT a color overlay and keep it as transparent as you are thinking. It might be worth a try, inkjet ink *is* waterbased, but I'd test that theory before paying $2 a sheet for this film stuff :)

You could try using colored-transparent film cutouts in places. But you'd have to attach them somehow. Which might look ugly, come to think of it.

Hey, thanks for the info! I never thought of the opaque ink issue on the transparency. I wonder if printing in draft mode would give a more transparent feel? I guess I should just try it on a conventionally sized piece to make sure it will work prior to purchasing the 12x12 stuff. Thanks for the info though...
