Hi. I'm a total newbie working on my first layout in PSE. I was using the tutorial on your site and followed all the directions. I chose a 12x12 layout and got that all the way I wanted (great tutorial BTW). Then I sized my pics. But when I put them on the background, they're way too small.

For instance, my background is 12x12 and I sized one of my pics to be roughly 4x6. So if it's 6 inches wide, shouldn't it be half the width of the background? Why does it show up like 1/8 of the width? What am I doing wrong?

I'm thinkign your photo is taken at low quality/low resolution, probably 72dpi. Since your layout is higher/more pixel density, 200dpi, then your photo will be smaller. It's not the size/inches that really matter, it's the pixel density, or ppi.

Check out this article to get more familiar with it.

Check the image dimensions, Image>Resize>Image and look at the original to see if it's the same as your photo.

You can improve low quality photos, but make sur eyou set your camera to start taking high quality photos that are suitable for printing, around 300dpi is the High setting on most cameras

Let us know if that's it :) Welcome to DSP!

Emma - thank you!!! That was it. The pictures aren't low res, but my program was opening them in 72 dpi.
