Hi, all.

I just "stumbled" onto this place, just after seeing the ad on TV for the My Memories Suite. Got beyond that sales website and decided to explore. Found this website through a series of searches and just loved what I saw in the people here.

I'm new to digital scrapbooking, but have been a paper scrapper for about 10 years. I've been working at Scrap Artz, a scrapbooking and paper arts store in Ashland for 2 1/2 years. That has been a real education and experience in business and has given me experience in writing web content and taking pictures to post on the web site. I have also had to learn more about computers and the mysteries of their quirkie behavior, usually just at the worst times... sheesh! I have also met LOADS of the nicest people ever! Unfortunately, we are closing the end of this month. That's another story... Before that, I worked at Memories Galore (west end) store for a couple of years.

My first experience with "archival" scrapbooking was on National Scrapbooking Day 1998. A friend from church was a Creative Memories consultant and invited me and others to a crop at our church, at which there probably 100 people... at least it seemed like alot. My first pages of my new Creative Memories book were of our vacation the year before. I had such fun and I haven't stopped since. Unfortunately, since I've been working at scrapbooking stores, and collecting TONS of supplies at my employee discount, I have unfortunately been less likely to actually make my scrapbooks.

Now, through being overwhelmed by the number of pictures I have accumulated and adding on the recent genealogical research I have recently started  , digital scrapbooking just makes a lot of sense. The combination of the digital and paper scrapbooking have actually been part of my repertoire for years. But now I'm going to learn more about it and start making some digital books. This group seems like a great place to learn and get advice.

Personal info: Homemaker/part time retail employment, 57 y.o., married to Bill for 37 years, Three grown kids & their spouses.. one engaged, one granddaughter. I'm into fine art right now -- drawing, painting; but I want to keep my scrapbooks going. I also enjoy exploring on the internet, mostly genealogical research right now. I also have a short attention span, so may just change my mind tomorrow. We have aging parents, so add that into the mix...

I look forward to getting to know you all. Anybody else here from my area?

Cheers!
Susie

Welcome, Susie, sounds like you will fit in nicely here. We have a great heritage group that you might like to check out. And a few who do hybrid scrapbooking also. And lots of Grannies, here, too. I am 55 (still working) married to Bobby for 38 years with two grown sons, and four grandchildren, from 6 mos. to 6 years.

There are wonderful tutorials here; check those out at the top under The Campus. What program are you going to use to scrapbook?

We are so glad you are here and give a shout if you have any questions.

Hi, Bocca and Margie.

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions on how to get started. I don't know what software I am going to use. Still trying to figure that out. I have Paint Shop Pro (v.7) and do not want to upgrade to v.12. The Art Explosion Scrapbook Factory seems to be popular in some circles. Creating Keepsakes in others. And there is the software suggested on this website. I am very familiar with and love MS Publisher. Anyone ever do scrapbooks with it? I guess the problem with that would be the inability to download digital content, eh? I'll take suggestions... or just keep checking here in the DSP forums.

Welcome to DSP - you will find PSP 7 will do just fine for scrapbooking - you may need to find a patch for it if you have an early version - some of the very early versions of psp7 didnt display pngs properly with a transparent background and jasc released a patch to deal with this - you will know as soon as you try and open a png file ( most elements are .png files) because it will have a white background and wont be transparent . If it is transparent then you dont need the patch
