Arrrggghh!! I know there's got to be a very simple way to do this.
I have several square/rectangular elements in a horizontal row. I have linked them all and gone under Layer>Align linked>Align vertical centers so that their tops & bottoms are level. Now, I want them evenly spaced apart AND, as a group, centered towards the bottom of my layout.
I have gone through all the options under Layer>Align linked but I still can't get them evenly spaced apart and centered, as a whole, on the bottom of my layout.
I am obviously having a dumb spell

If I were to want a 3x3 grid of 9 photos, I would crop them each first and bring them on over to my LO. Then, once they're all there, link them all up. Then using the align button, center horizontal and vertical centers. (I name them all first with where I want them to go. Top right, Top Center etc or like on a tic tac toe grid 1..2..3..) Then I unlink the Top Center and holding down the shift key, hit my Right arrow button, say, 5 times. That will move my square over 50 pixels (The shift and arrow = 10) Then unlink the next one Top Right and continue shift arrowing them to where you want. OR, you can link each row or column and unlink one at a time and shift arrow them across. I think I've made this more confusing, but try linking a few, horizontal and verical centers and play until you figure out what I'm babbling about! :)
Have you tried the Distribute options for linking 3 or more? Make sure the active layer is the one you want to use for the distribution/alignment.
You can also line up the ones you want in subsections. Then unlink and link the next set, continuing until everything is right. To center the linked group on the background, link everything and have the background as the active layer before clicking Alignment.
Again, try Distribute and see if those options help you

Emma & Jennifer: I am sooooo sorry, but I still need help. I am so confused.
I have 3 square elements and 1 rectangular element, all at the bottom of my layout (named #1, #2, #3 and #4 respectively - #4 being the rectangular element). I have them all linked together. I went under Layer>Align linked>Align vertical centers. So, the tops/bottoms of all of them are all even and level.
OK - I just can't get them evenly spaced apart! I tried to follow what both of you suggested (but Jennifer, I think I got lost!).
I have #1 as the active layer. Should I have one of the others active instead??
a)Went under Layer>Distribute Linked>Horizontal Centers: that shifted #2 & #3 closer to #1, but not evenly, and #4 was left by its lonesome - it didn't move.
b) Went under Layer>Distribute Linked>Vertical Centers: nothing happened
c) Went under Layer>Distribute Linked>Left Edges AND Right Edges: only #2 and #3 shift closer to #1, and again, not evenly - and #4 doesn't move again.
I even tried it with #3 being the active layer - but it's still not spacing evenly.
Then I tried what Jennifer suggested, and unlinked each element and used Shift+arrow but it nudges the element over too much. I guess I could use this method, if only it would nudge in smaller increments.
Help! :(
use JUST the arrow key to Nudge one pixel at a time. Shift-arrow for 10 at a time
