Hi everyone, JD and I are trying to arrange a crop in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 12 and we need to know how much interest there is, so we can see about arrangements. We will let you know more about the details, as we know more.

You can count on me, I will be there. I am in St. George as most of you know but this will give me an extra excuse to come up north. Anything I can do to help let me know. thanks for planing this Jae Dee and Chris.

Here is something we need to consider. I talked to the local library, they have a meeting room that we can use and it would be free, as long as we clean up after ourselves. Since none of us will be leaving our laptops there, I think this is easy. The other good point is they have a wireless connection. You need to have a library card, but they said they have a visitor's card available for visitor's, also free. Down side, we could only get the room from 10:15 to 5:45 on Saturday, since the library closes early, and there is absolutely no food or drink allowed in the library, except bottled waters. There are several restaurants/food places nearby, many within walking distance. So my question to you, would you rather use a library meeting room where it is free and wireless, or would you rather split the cost for a conference room or something, where we could have longer hours and food/drink. Not sure if wireless would be available.

Christine

Oh yeah and the meeting room at the library, is set to hold up to 72 people.

That sounds super, Chris! I vote for the library. We'll be too busy to be eating while we have our crop, and after we can all go out and eat together and keep right on yakking! :):):) With wireless there we can even do "hello" with each other if we want. AND IT'S FREEEE!!! Sound good to anyone else?

The library works for me!! We could break for lunch then have a long dinner/visit session at a restaurant:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: !! Can't wait to meet everyone!!!

GranFran

Me too, JaeDee! I hope we have everyone from UT there, and lots from other places, too! This is close to Adobe and right before, isn't it? :D

Christine

Have you decided if you're going to teach us how (and why we should) to use masks, Chris? You use them for so many things that they must be worth learning about. I'll bet the library has the equipment to project your puter screen up on a screen that we can all see. Oh, just realized that everyone doesn't use the same program. Oh, well. I'm sure we'll be doing something fun and interesting, and learning a lot, in addition to getting acquainted IRL! Can't wait!! :yahoo:

Christine
05-07-2008, 09:43 PM
The principle behind a mask is the same in any program, so I would be happy to show you all how to use them.

I'm in! I would love to meet everyone! The library is a great idea the rooms are nice and you can have food and drink in them but you have to pay a deposit. I think it was like $25.00 or something like that from what I remember from another group

Christine
05-07-2008, 10:55 PM
oh I called them and they said no food, hmmm maybe I need to ask again. They did say about the $25 deposit that is 100% refundable as long as we clean up after ourselves.

I'm so in! I'm a little nervous though. I'm more of a lurker on this site so I'm not going to know ANYONE! Is that okay? I'd love to learn about masks too if that's okay. If you need any help or if people want to carpool I'll be happy to drive. I know that might be scary because no one knows me but I'm friendly and not crazy... well not too crazy.

This sounds like fun - I could probably come, and I'm all about free so the library sounds good to me...

Jenny don't be nervous! We're just regular ole people!! Well I'm just regular ole people, Gundi is an amazing scrapper and I'm sure she will share some secrets with us!! It will be so much fun!! Can't wait to meet everyone!
And we can visit about the Twilight series (saw it in your siggy line)!

Christine

Oh yes definitely on talking about Twilight, love it! The next one will be out not long after our crop.

Please count me in! I am trying to talk DH into letting me go to the Adobe crop, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I just wish I had a laptop. Maybe I can get one with all the money I will save by not going to California. The library sounds like an ok option. Another idea might be a craft store. I had a wedding shower/ craft party at Roberts once, and I don't think it was too terribly expensive. They allowed us to have food too. We would want to book it right away though in order to have it for all day. Not sure if there is a Roberts there, but I think other craft stores do the same thing. They have supplies you can use as well, so that would be great for hybrid projects.

oh good idea Suzi, there are several Roberts and Michaels, I will call, but then we probably won't have wifi.

Count me in this sounds like soooooooo much fun. and the library will be fine with me I don't know how many of you are aware but Hello is closing down as of the 15th of May WAH!!!!! so that won't be an option to keep in touch. However Goober and Skype are still around though not as convenient I will keep following the forum for more information

Christine
05-11-2008, 10:35 PM
Just the pits isn't it CC?! I have already added goober to my computers, in case we don't get a stay of execution. I think it will be ok once we all get used to it.

Is anyone in Salt Lake that wants to take over being in charge on this one. For anyone who doesn't know my BIL was in a near fatal motorcycle accident and I am just being stretched very thin right now, trying to take care of his 2 kids, in addition to my own. Plus support the family etc. I am still planning on coming and I hope others are too. PM me if you can help out, please. :D

The address of the library that I have reserved is 10673 S Redwood Dr, in South Jordan. For anyone not familiar with Salt Lake, South Jordan is a suburb of Salt Lake and is on the same grid for its address.

Here is a map of the libraries:

http://www.slco.lib.ut.us/libmap.htm

It is the South Jordan branch.

Just saw this and the hours are a little off. The library is actually open from 10 to 6 on Saturdays and they said we could start at 10:15 and end by 5:45. Just a slight change but didn't want anyone to be lost. :D

oh one more thing, I just double checked and on their website it says, "no food or drink except water in screw lid type bottles" - but there are several restaurants/fast food places within walking distance for lunch. And if you like Mexican food, I have just 2 words for you...... Cafe Rio! Yum!

I was all worried that I was going to be paper scrapping at our laptop crop since my lappie was having issues, but HP just let me know that I should receive it back on Mon! :yahoo:

I'm planning on coming. Do you know if there are power outlets in the area we will be meeting for laptops?

I've never used my laptop for scrapping, this may be interesting. I'm trying to get disks burned with my kits, etc. I think this will be a lot of fun.
