Okay, I have some ribbon on a layout. I want another piece on the LO too, but I want it the same length as a mat. Anyway, I can't remember but I can't just crop on a single layer, eh? If I try, it crops the rest of the LO away. :p

So do I need to put it on another page and just try to guess on the length I need to crop it? I hope this makes sense. LOL!

Thanks!
Tracy

thats the long way to do it. you need to use the selection tool (the one that will make those marching ants appear) it has several choices in how it is used for what it sounds like your doing one of the shapes will work best. I have PSP so I'll explain how it works there and if you use a different program maybe you can figure it out or someone else can help with that program.

the selection tool has three icons in the toolbar along the side (a rectangle, a lasso, and a magician wand). select the retangle one, then across the top is the choices for this tool, select the shape that will work best for your object. notice the drop down menu that has three choices (replace, add, remove) make sure it is on replace or add, and now draw over the part of the picture you want to keep. don't worry if you don't get it exactly right you have several choices to change it... if you have the right size just move your element/picture to be within the dancing ants, or use the 'add' and 'remove' choices or just start over with the replace option. when you have those dancing ants around the part of the picture you want to keep go up the top where all the drop down menus are (like file) and go to selection>invert selection - then go to cut everything outside you selection on that layer should delete (make sure you are on the layer you want to cut) then under selection>select none..... or if you have more things you want exactly the same move them within the dancing ants and cut again with that layer selected.

You know, just playing around with your directions, I think I actually did it. It was a little different, but it worked. Now I don't know if I'll remember what I did though!

If I understand your question right?? I would have this new ribbon on a new layer, position it where you want and then just use the eraser tool to remove the extra.. I always seem to do things odd!! :p But then it would be the right lenght!

An easy way to remember is to look at Lesson 4, under the Cropping Layers subheading :)

I know, I know, it needs a table of contents, LOL! I'm working on it. I'll send one to everyone when I finish it :)

But yes, just put everything how you want it and use the Marquee Tool to select either what you want, Select>Invert and Delete, or what you don't want, and just Delete

Oops, got in trouble with the teacher. ;) You are right, Emma, I see that now. See? That's what happens when you play hookey from the last lesson!

I did get to do the first half, so I am going to go read the last half of that lesson right now!
