Flatties -
Well, I wasn't in on the Flatties from the very beginning and I have a rather pitiful memory, but I believe when they started they were based on The Adventures of Flat Stanley. And please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong. :D I also think the first flatties came about as a way for the grannies, gits and wannabees who could not go in person to attend an crop.
MarsOlson created a complete wardrobe for the Flatties, including accessories. (Thanks, Mars, we're forever grateful!  )
These days, each time a granny gets ready for a wonderful vacation, or goes to a crop, or does anything which she thinks might appeal to the others, she invites them to dress for the occassion and takes them along.
I even found out that they show up at places UNINVITED!!!!!!!!!
And can really cause mayhem and havoc! Seems as we get older, some of us become way less inhibited! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
For instance:
Grape Gobbling Grannies (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207342&ppuser=34323)
One Way Ticket (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=207341&ppuser=34323)
Flatties Demand Jam (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=203823&ppuser=34323)
Yep, the first-ever DSP digital crop was in January 2007 in Anaheim, California. Those of us could go were lording it over everyone else so Laura suggested a flat granny project based on the Flat Stanley series. The flatties made their first appearance at that crop and -- if I remember correctly -- the-flattie-who-will-have-no-name lost her underwear and disappeared not long after not-so-flat Sven arrived on the scene. Let's just say there was a tremendous amount of misbehavior! (And, yes, Amanda really did dance on the table.)
If you go to Lynnie's (FormbyGirl's) granny site you can see a picture of the Anaheim group: Anaheim Flatties & Friends (http://www.silers-alley.com/grannies/html/grannies_in_anaheim.html) plus some links on the left that go to other adventures. For the real scoop on the flatties, start at the Granny Gallery's earliest page (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=4116&page=30) -- lots of Anaheim and Melbourne LOs there.
Two Anaheim examples -- Formby's A Wild (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=161243) and Crazy Time (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=161245)
Oh, and I forgot to say that JaeDee was the driving force behind actually getting the flatties there. Kim/yvspeck and I helped but we weren't as dedicated as JD. In fact, Kim actually embarrassed Daggie (with chocolate drops) as you can see in JD's Grannies Go to Anaheim (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=160817)
Discombobulate, interdigitate, epidermis -
Discombobulated is "not found in the English dictionaries"
Well, we know it's found in the speech patterns of the estimable PQ Fran and her wayward offspring, DixieMama (OOPS, sorry, Dix! :o )we now know it's found in the dictionary, according to Oh Knowledgeable One, Impy, but also, my Spell Checker recognized it right off the bat! So....................Kay, it's pretty official!!! Go ahead, use it in conversation, put it in a letter, heck, feature it on one of your amazing layouts! You're safe!:D
  I can't even SOUND it ..never mind USE it !! But what a lovely word it is..and what a loquacious lady we have in our midst !! (better find another dictionary source..Encarta sucks !!:annoyed: )
Kay, if it's a new word to South Africa, you HAVE to use it so people will wonder what the heck you're up to. It's pronounced dis-kuhm-BOB-you-late.
When I was teaching 8th graders, I had a "nothing akin to romance around me during school hours" rule for all of my little hormone-pumped friends. :p When I saw kids holding hands in class, I would stage whisper, "I can't believe that Johnny and Susie would interdigitate right here in my classroom." :annoyed: Kids would laugh -- loving couple would jump apart ASAP -- and then everyone would dive for their dictionaries.:lol: The time I had the most fun, though, was when a kid said (pre-dictionary), "Mrs. J, are you sure teachers are ALLOWED to say that in school?" :yahoo: Goes to show that words are what we make of 'em, huh?
Oh, and that's why I ADORED teaching 14-year-olds -- they're never ever boring!! I love retirement but I think I will always miss my time in the classroom with my own students. But then I think of administrators, meetings, rules, regulations......
Omi, you're story reminds me of a time in my late teens when someone told me my 'epidermis' was showing! :yikes:  :o I spent the next 20 minutes checking and rechecking my bra, shirt, shorts' hardware, etc., all the while listening to the raucous laughter of my friends.
