I am looking for a good tutorial to learn how to make a background using brushes. For example - a solid background that then uses a "design" brush. I have a great brush of dragonflies that I would love to use to make a background page for a layout to go with my watergarden photos. I know how to make the background textured, but would love to be able to put some dragonflies all over the background, in a color that would work with the backbround color. (Like a darker shade of the actual background, or vice versa).

I use Photoshop or PSP9 - so a tutorial for either one would be great. I am just now beginning to learn how to use brushes even though I am pretty familiar with both programs.

Thanks.

Debi

Check the Beginner Brushes PS tutorial, it's similar to what you're looking for. She uses a Flower stamp and mesh stamp brushes to create a background

I will check out the Brush Tutorial, but I also would like to see tutorials on using brushes in creative ways.

Currently when I use a brush on a background I pick on with a star or other small pattern and pull it across the "paper". I have used one with a larger pattern to "stamp" the page. If you stamp the page, is it possibly to change the orientation of that stamp in some way?

I know there is a lot about using brushes that I haven't figured out.

If you are using PS you can change the orientation of the stamp in the brush palette. We're working on getting some classes for DSU on using brushes :)

I made a new tutorial today showing how to use the PS Brushes Palette
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/ps_brushpalette_ep.shtml

and redid/added to the existing painted backgrounds tutorial, linked at the end of the Palette tut, so hopefully it'll be easier to follow. LMK if they're helpful

just hit Cancel when it asks for a password. I need Amanda to help me with that little bug...
