Is there a quick, easy way to download fonts and access them? I download them, they disappear. If I do find them, I can't get them to install.
Thanks,
Jewel

Hi, my advice is Don't. Extra fonts have to load on start up so it slows that down also if you have too many you could have other problems as well, crashing being one possabilty.
I never add any fonts to Windows font folder, but this is how I manage my fonts, of which I have more that 1 gig of.
I have a folder in My Documents , with sub folders for each letter and when I save a font I save it to that folder.
Now to use the fonts open any font and then minimize it so it is on your bottom toolbar, open the program you want to use eg. Word, PSP, PS, publisher or any other and while the fonts is on your toolbar it will show up in the font list for you program, when you have finished using it simply close it and thats about all you need to do. If the fonts still show up after you close then that is not a problem they will be tucked back into their folder when you re boot.
I usually open about 8 to 10 and have them avaliable to use.
If you have a font viewer it also helps you to select the fonts you want to use without having to open each one.
Hope that this helps you.
Pam.

You can also use a font manager - many people here use The font thing and there are tutorials on organising your fonts right here (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/fontthing.shtml) at DSP. My understanding is that Windows XP doesnt have the same font restrictions as previous versions and you can have plenty of installed fonts but I like to use a font manager ( I simply open my font manager and temporarily install all my "scrapping" fonts before I open Photoshop .

When I got my new computer 2 weeks ago, I only installed my very favorite fonts. The rest have been catagorized in a folder in C: that I named "Fontaholics". I only have 233 fonts installed now, compared to the 800+ I had, and they are the ones that my programs installed. It's so nice to have them organized! :D I even have an idea of which fonts were installed by MS, DIP and PSE. A few I can't figure out. Must be from an alien program. :D

Thanks for your help, ladies!
A few years ago I installed Hallmark Scrapbook Deluxe and hundreds of fonts were added to my hard drive. I have lots of work to do to organize them, but then I won't have to search so hard or use the same ones over and over.
Similar to what others have said, here's what I do.
Save all the zip files to a Fonts folder you create in My Files, or on your drive. This keeps them all together, and if you ever reinstall Windows, you don't want all your fonts in the Windows Font folder because they'll be deleted when you remove Windows.
If you have a Font Manager, use it to view and install fonts. Check out the tutorial here on The Font Thing, it has a link to download it. Uninstall the fonts occasionally to keep your load time under control, leaving only your favorites. No reason to leave one installed that you rarely use, and opening your manager while scrapping familiarizes you with what you have, what you lack, and encourages using new and varied fonts rather than the old "stand-by" fonts installed when you don't open your manager.
If you don't use a manager, installing fonts is still easy. Save them to a separate folder still, then open the Windows Font folder in Start>Settings>Control Panel>Fonts (right click and choose Open), then File>Install and browse to your personal Fonts folder to install them. Again, uninstall things periodically.
In my Intro to Scrapping classes I cover downloading and installing fonts in Windows, and using them for creative typography. hth!
