I already have ACDSee, and love it! If you scrap digitally, this is a MUST have addition to whatever program you use.

I'm not sure how they get 40% off (I thought it was about $40), but this is the best deal I have seen - $29.99.

If you don't have it, check it out:

ACDSee 10 Photo Manager (http://store.acdsee.com/store/acd/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.78701300)

And if you want to learn more about ACDSee Photo manager, check out the forum here at DSP, or the awesome DigiScrapInfo.com (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/dsiwiki/DigiScrapInfo) for anything you might want to know about ACDSee!

Thank you so much for this info. I recently got a virus that deleted an important file in my version. It was an old version that came with my old - old digicam so I did not have the cd anymore. I've missed it dearly

That's a good deal with the list price at $49 or $50. We were able to get a two for one deal back in January and this is almost as good. DW and I use the same software so that we can help each other with problems and tricks.

I'm very interested in getting ACDSee Photo Manager, but I am concerned about memory. Is it a memory hog? I use Picasa at present, and find it really bogs down my system, so if ACDsee is the same or worse, I think I'll stick with Picasa.

It is a all relevent to your processor and how much memory you have.

I don't have a problem, and often have Firefox, Thunderbird, Photoshop CS3, Bridge, and ACDSee open at any given time.

What type of computer do you have, and what do you know about its horsepower?

I also don't have a problem with ACDSee running while using PSE6, MS Outlook and Firefox. PSE6 runs just fine and it is easy to find kits or photo to scrap with using ACDSee.:)

I have a Dell 4600C, 1 GB RAM. I probably don't have enough RAM. I get a "Windows is increasing your virtual memory" often when I am running both PSCS3 and Picasa. But I "need" (lol) both programs open when I scrap. DOes anyone know if ACDsee takes more memory than Picasa - I know it does a lot more, so I was wondering if it would take more memory?

Oh, the processor is a Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, running Windows XP Home.

I want to second Kathleen --I have ACDSee and love it. I love it even more after taking a class Heidi and Chris (who are 2 of the experts over at digiscrapinfo). Learned some tricks that have made organizing even faster, and some tricks that make keeping track of the kits/elements I'm using in a layout almost foolproof! A must for anyone who likes to scrap using multiple kits!

However, I just upgraded to 10 two weeks ago--missed out on this deal, dagnabbit! :annoyed: I think the deal is a steal!!

I am also running XP Home and I checked on memory usage for ACDsee and found it used about 32MB. I'm running a desktop with 2GB memory.

Jaylin ... you could always download a trial version of ACDSee and play around with it a little and see how it performs on your computer. I think their trial is 30 days. Obviously the real test becomes when you start tagging things. There is a 'speed tagging' method that you could use to quickly tag a bunch of stuff and try to get some idea of performance. Do you have lots of tagging done in Picasa already? If so, it might be worth investigating how to export Picasa to ACDSee (I might have seen a tutorial on this, can't remember).

As for memory, it is one of those inexpensive and relatively simple changes you can make to improve your computer. I would think you could get an additional 1GB of memory for less than $50. The biggest trick is getting the right kind for your motherboard.

OK, I had this in my cart, and got a little note off to the side: ACDSee also recommends Real Optimizer 2; is this necessary/advisable/required?

I looked at the ACDSee web site and Real Optimizer 2 looks like a program to get more money out of your pocket. Save it for gas.:):)

I feel the same way about the safe backup option (or whatever they call it).

OK, all you ACDSee gurus. I bought it and downloaded it. Did everyone install ALL the files and tell it to take care of ALL of your stuff???

I have to say I'm still having fun with it! Sure wish I'd gotten the deal that's out there now, but it wasn't that much more!:o

I'm slowly getting my (I won't say how many! ) kits organized, however, this weekend I did get all my contact sheets, samples and papers tagged, and all kits have the designer named. This was fast and easy-peasy!

Don't stray too far from here, Scamp......I may be needing some help! I'm letting it catalog my files now (I'm not saying how many either!!!! ) and will probably play a bit more with it tomorrow.

I totally LOVE this program! I used to dread trying to scrap anything when I was just using windows folders to view stuff. It took FOREVER! Now that I have all of my previews/contact sheets tagged it is a lifesaver trying to find something quickly! This program is worth every penny- especially at this awesome price!

OK, I am convinced now! I did try the trial version, not long ago, but obviously didnt make use of all the features as it didnt seem much different from just using Windows. So I will stretch the Credit card a little more (ouch ....it just burnt my fingers ...) and try again --- must be good if all you experts recommend it!!! And did u say there was a thread on it somewhere where we can pick up all those little tricks etc?

p.s _ I use that FANTASTIC excel program that you did Kathleen to keep track of kits bought for crediting layouts etc - it is the best, thank you :):)

The dedicated site to ACDSee for scrapbookers is digiscrapinfo.com. However, here at DSP under tools there is a thread as well, and the ladies from digiscrapinfo are great about responding to questions that come up there.

The greatest feature I recently learned about is the add to image basket feature, and how to oh so simply! get the elements into PSE from there.

Even though I haven't tagged anywhere close to all my "pieces", just having the contact sheets, previews and designers tagged has me way ahead of the game.

One of the greatest features for me is the ability to view my white and very light colored .png's by changing the thumbnail background color. This is TOTALLY awesome!!!!!!!! -c-

I am new to digiscrappin . Is this ACDCthing just for organizing or what? Right now I only have 12 to 15 kits so I think it would be good to start organizing better. What are you all calling "contact sheets"?

Barbara

PS...Don't know how to download "blinkies"

scamptx

ACDSee is only for organizing. Contact sheets are a page that many designers include in their kits that could be printed out--they have a picture of each element and background, so it's an instant visual reference to what is included in the kit.

ACDSee enables you to tag elements so that you can do a search within the database to find something quickly. For example, you know you have red ribbons, but you can't remember which kit...you would do a search for red ribbons, and ACDSee would find all the elements that were tagged "red" and "ribbon".

This is only one example, and a simplistic one at that, of what ACDSee is for. Hope this helps! You can always download a trial version to test it out.
