Are you part of the ZERO CLUB? Well if you are (or even if you aren't and just want to join in the fun) Jump into this thread! The ZEROs originally started as a joke during the 2 CRAZY CHICKS chat! It was all the fabulous ladies who scored ZERO during the game! But don't worry, this thread is for EVERYONE and about EVERYTHING! Its just a fun, on and off topic thread! You have something to share? Share it! You have a question? Ask it! You want to talk about the movie you just saw? The book you just read? The TV program you can't get enough of? Come hang out here at the ZERO THREAD! And once in a while, I will pick random posts, post trivia questions, or hand out freebies....never know what you will find here!!! :) Welcome to the ZERO CLUB!!!!!! :D

I'm a ZERO! I remember those Zero Candy bars too! Just barely. Yes, that's it -- I'm barely old enough to remember them. :)

In order to be a member of Zero Club it doesn't matter how many lo's you do. All you have to do to be a member is to be crazy... it helps anyway;)! Really you just have to be willing to have fun no matter what!!! We originally came up with the Zero Club during trivia chats... most of us never got any points for answering the questions... this is how the Zero Club was born. We love to have fun so much that some people who get out of Zero Club still want to be members!!! We're not an exclusive club... the more the merrier! Ooooh ya it helps to have a ready supply of chocolate on hand!!! :rolleyes:Bribery will get you everywhere!!!

Well, I'm definitely a part of the zero club. Was there in it's conception. We started asking around who still had zero, during a trivia chat, which led to everyone cheering on the zeros, to the club itself. I have to confess that I do, on occation slip into the onsie group, but since that doesn't win you anything, I think it still qualifies me to be in the zero club. (Another confession: My goal is to someday actually get two whole points during a game- *gasp* I know! I hope that doesn't exclude me from the club :) )

Definitely a zero - was there during that chat, too! And a point in Trivia still eludes me :)You know something, if I have to listen to another episode of Sponge Bob I'm gonna SCREAM ! ! !

Ahh, the Zero Candy Bar (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/zero.asp)....official Club ZERO snack??
quoted from Hersheys site above...The unique combination of ingredients makes this bar a one of a kind. The name ZERO is believed to come from the bar being originally marketed as a cool, tasty treat; or as cool as Zero degrees.

As members of CLUB ZERO, we are a unique and one-of-a-kind bunch that are as cool as a zero can be!

Roberta T

I wuz there too! I actually won once but it was a total give because of no time.
But I consider myself a proud member anyway!!!

Happybeingamom, what a joke, you needing a plus size t-shirt. Now mine would have to really stretch!

I don't know if we had Zero bars in Canada, I was quite expert in all chocolate bars so I know we didn't have them up north here for sure.

Which reminds me, when my DD (now 26) had to make a speech at about age 8, she did it about chocolate bars (she is even more a chocolate bar lover than me and so slim!!!!). All the other speeches were about serious issues. She was a hoot, everyone loved it.

I haven't been able to attend the chats in the past (too late for this early riser) but I see the time will be changing so I hope to become a "Zero". If being crazy and liking chocolate are the only qualifications, then I'm definitely a candidate!

Ohhh and I get to play "The Amazing Race" tonight! LOL....our church does an "Amazing Race" challenge for the teens and my house is one of the stops! LOL So I have to watch them preform their task (which is to make up a haiku or count a jar full of beans) and then send them off to their next house. One of their challenges tonight is to make up a singing telegram...LOL I was really hoping to be serenaded by teenagers tonight! Oh well!

I do have twizzlers, Nicole! Lots of 'em. I think I have some Dots, too. You likey??!??

Playing the Amazing Race sounds awesome! What a cool idea.
You should allow your son to perform his harmonica concert while the kids are trying to do their tasks. That should make things interesting!

SO...........bribe ME with chocolate and then I'll tell YOU what Nicole likes and then you can bribe her without being so obvious and then maybe, just maybe she'll let us all have some nice freebies.

This is what ZERO's do -- they whine and bribe and hope for freebies.

Ok...have you ever had 50 teenagers run in and out your front door for an hour???? So they knew they had to come to my house and either count a jar of beans or write a haiku...so MOST groups had the haiku done before they even got here! And they had them all typed out on their little blackberry thing-a-bobs! Whatever happened to pencils and paper???? Seriously...am I THAT old???? Anyway, it was fun, but I am glad it is over! I am sure my neighbors are too, since the teenagers managed to park all over the street, driveway and up on the curb, trying to race each other into my house!!!

Nicole Young

Oh, now there's my kind of pizza. Chocolate pizza was somewhat inviting, but the veggie pizza is my cup of tea (or should I say coffee).

So, Nicole, we have an idea of what you want to eat. How about the favorite scrapping drink (I promise I will put it in a no-spill cup so you won't get that precious computer drenched). He He, if this is how we will get those missing freebies, I'll bribe with whatever I can find.

Count me into the Zeros. I got to attend 1 chat before this dreaded time change and of course didn't even come close to a point. Oh well, someday when the kids are grown.

I have a kids birthday party to go to today - Ian has been asking me for 2 days "Do I get cake?" so, I am going to take the boys - Sam(DH) is going off to play D & D today - so I won't even have him to keep me company! I can't wait until the kids are old enough for drop-off parties (evil grin) But, until then, I get to do the birthday party circuit - does anyone here really ENJOY those things? I think they are excruciating, but I guess it is better than having teenagers run through your house!

And I am going to show my "freak"ness again.....I dont like STARBUCKS chai....I was ADDICTED to starbucks coffee, but not chai! YUCK! I DO love Caribou chai (do you guy have a Caribou?) and sometimes I splurge and get a decaf Caramel High Rise with skim milk.

Carola--yeah,I am going to have to try it with soy milk, sounds ummmm.....yucky! But I will try it! LOL

Ok, I am pooped! Preston (DH) and I are training to run our first full marathon. We have done a half before. But never the full one. So we did a 10 mile run this morning, then I biked to the library (about 2 miles away) and returned some books, then took the dog for a walk and then went and "splurged" and got a decaf caramel high rise. Sooooo NOW i am going to to get cleaned up and RELAX the rest of the day! :)

This sounds like a thread that is good fun...

does having a lengthly chocolate related have-to-buy-or-sent-chocoloholic related stuff to-your-friend -addiiction count??!!

It al started of when she sent me a postcard stating"help things are getting worse, please sent more chocolate" ...after that time whenever I see/read funny things about chocolate I just have to show/give it to her... ;-)

my favorite scrapping drink...diet coke or tea

...I'll pass on the blinkie-thing....never did that before..and I don't have enough time available to do it..

My scrapping priority right now is getting our son's 1st year album ready...I pop in here now and then for inspiration or getting over a scrappers block by participating in a challenge...

I like my blinkies to line up ,too - so I'll make two - one at 100 and one at the 300 height! Not today, though, my mom was in a car accident yesterday - no broken bones, just alot of small cuts and bruises from the airbag - thank god for those! But anyway, I am going to visit and bring her coffee & breakfast tacos today - scrapping will have to wait until later.

ohhhh and my latest and greatest drama....last night I spent 4 hours and $70 to get an annoying "virus" off my computer. It was one of those "fake" viruses that load your computer up with "alerts" telling you that you have viruses and that you need to buy "their" product to fix it. So I had to call my REAL virus protection company to have them walk me through removing all the "stuff" that they dumped on my computer. Luckily, this type of "fake virus" doesn't corrupt files, it is just REALLY REALLY annoying! Whew, I am SO glad it is over with though! I was afraid I was going to have to do a reboot my computer and start from scratch! YUCK! So I am catching up on emails and work today!

Ok, never made a blinkie, but will just have to give it a try if it could mean a free kit from your store. Can you make blinkies in PSE? Are there any tutorials? Well, off to see.

Her car, a Toyota Corolla - was totalled and she wouldn't have been alive if it hadn't been for that airbag. But anyway, I am going to visit and bring her coffee & breakfast tacos today - scrapping will have to wait until later.

Carola, I'm so glad she is ok...what a scare that must have been!

ohhhh and my latest and greatest drama....last night I spent 4 hours and $70 to get an annoying "virus" off my computer.

Dontcha just hate that kinda thing? I've seen those before, what a pain in the butt they are!

Ok - I just realized that not all of you are from Texas, California, Mexico (or even close!) so, I looked up a definition of Breakfast Taco and shortened it to one line to add to this post - they are yummy!

Breakfast Taco - One version of the taco found in Tex-Mex cuisine is the breakfast taco which contains eggs and a combination of potatoes, sausage, or bacon wrapped in a flour tortilla. (My personal favorite is Choraquiles & egg - a mixture of Chorizo - very spicy ground pork, eggs, corn tortillas, onion, bell pepper, red sauce, hot sauce in a flour tortilla. Give me one of those & a Chai with soy and I am good to go for the day!)

BTW, my mom is doing much better today that yesterday - a lot of the facial swelling has gone down so everything doesn't look as bad - now my main problem is convincing her to drive again! I'm sure she will in a week or so, but right now she doesn't want anything to do with it - understandably so.

You're not alone! I've never even tried coffee, much less any of these! I can't get passed the smell...even the coffee aisle at the grocery gives me a bit of a quease.
I've heard of all of them except a chai....what is that exactly???!!??

I might be able to do a breakfast taco, except I'm a bit funny about my eggs having lumps of other things in them...doesn't provide a good mental picture while eating.

Glad to hear your Mom is doing/looking better, Carolat. I'd be nervous about driving again, too, but I hope she does.

Chai is the name for tea in India and elsewhere. It is brewed with spices and tastes quite different to European tea. A chai latte has no coffee in it at all, it's probably not actually got any tea in it either because they usually make it from syrup - but it's yummy, sweet and spicy. Definitely my favourite hot drink treat.

Here's the link to a more complete explanation of traditional Masala chai from wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chai

I'm not convinced about Starbucks version though, my favourite is from Muffin Break.

I am in! I am a ZERO! (I don't type fast enough to be anything else!) I had soooo many comments as I read through this, but I have forgotten most of them. I am getting so tired of "server busy, try again later" or whatever it says! Don't they know I have pictures to upload? And time is running out for some of these! I have a note (that is getting quite long) that I am keeping that tells me the name of the layout and where it needs to go and where I need to leave a link to it! It seemed to work OK over the weekend, but my dh "made me" go to the beach all weekend so i was unable to upload.

Pass some of that chocolate over here, allwright! I will eat it even if Nicole won't. And who has the recipe for the peach cheesecake? yum! *pouring a cup of chai tea for Nicole* That sounds like fun having the Amazing Race at your house, Nicole, but I thought the kids weren't supposed to know what they had to do at your house! Who spilled the beans??!!

At least when you hit submit more than once you didn't get that many posts. The other day I ended up posting in one of the forums like 6 times.

FYI - after an email chat with Margie, I found out that they are moving to a new server. The process requires extensive copies and other maintenance causing the slow downs and server busies. She said they hoped to have the worst over by tomorrow. Somewhere there is a post regarding this, but I don't think many of us have seen it.

zero. That sums up my day. Our location is getting very un-summerlike weather and it may be affecting the young 'uns....seems like I am always in 'snappy' mode. Today woke up to find my youngest made 'stinkin' mess, and I mean literally, in my bed so it started wrong from the beginning. I must have had about 4 crying fits today alone, and usually hold things together like block of iron! Perhaps there's a full moon approaching...

Oh, KitScrapper! I've had those days. As a matter of fact the end of my day was a little rough, but overall we had a really good day. The 2 yr old decided today she was going to really use the toilet. She was dry (not clean mind you) for 4 hours and pottied 3 times without prompts. As a matter of fact, one time, one of the 5 yr old twins came out of the bathroom, diaper in hand to tell me she had gone in the potty chair, successfully dumped it, but he just couldn't get the diaper back on. I laughed so hard inside, but really congratulated him on helping her. It was so cute. Love those moments, don't you?

I'm in Montana and we have breakfast tacos. I've seen them called breakfast burritos too. Luv 'em!!! Hot sauce in the morning... ohhhh yeah!!! Wake up big time!!! I really like Spanish omlets, chili rellanos (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) and huevo rancheros too. I love Mexican food... my absolute fav is fish tacos (can't get enough of 'em!!!).

Americans don't eat "baked tomatoes" for breakfast:confused:! Never had a baked tomato myself... what is it:rolleyes:? We eat like hashbrowns (fried shredded potatoes) or home potatoes (seasoned fried cubed potatoes... nummy!!!) We eat baked potatoes for lunch or supper. I love a baked potato stuffed with broccoli and smothered with cheese for lunch... oh yeah!!!!

For all those that thought the chocolate pizza sounded good I'm sending you a virtual slice... enjoy!!!

Love the blinkies! I haven't had time to work on one yet, but maybe I'll do so today. Yesterday, we took Alexander for an endoscopy, he was such a brave little toaster! Nothing wrong, but the doctor restricted him to indoor activities for the rest of the day. So, what do you suppose a 6 yr old does when he can't go to the pool, ride his bike, play on the trampoline? Plays video games all day! I was ready to put the xbox in the attic for future generations by dinner - it was driving me nuts! My husband had a blast though, under the guise of "helping Alexander stay occupied" he got to play all day, too. After dinner I couldn't take it anymore and went to get a pedicure :)
Well, enough of my complaining - today's a new day.

Morning all, just popped on my pedometer. My town has an active community thing that goes from July to October with participants signing in as groups, or as individuals. You simply login in your daily recorded steps and the group with the largest number of steps wins a block party, and individuals receive a little something-something...I don't really know, don't reallllly care....I just know that with every scrap I make, my butt spread increases in width and I don't like it!~ So yesterday I signed up just so that I have little personal accountability at the end of the day with logging in hard numbers. They say every day you should walk about 10,000 steps and my sad, end of the day number yesterday was.......*whispering low*4,000..........:o
So along my my agenda of playing along with the 'challenges of challenges' and what with CIJ coming on fast.....I simply MUST find a way to incorporate some physical activity along the way.....hmm..maybe a slow speed on the elliptical while using a graphics tablet propped up........

Ok, here's what I learned making my blinkies.
1. I started with my blank file at 300 x 100 and reduced just before saving to Nicole's requested 150 x 50. It just seemed to give me a better palette to work on.
2. Reduce image size of kit item you are going to use before pulling it into your LO file (at least 50% helped to prevent some of the loss of resolution later). Oh, make sure you are working with a copy here so you don't accidentally ruin your original.
3. Continue to reduce scale a little at a time, checking the resolution issues (but I didn't have too much trouble here).
4. These tutorials helped me (I used the Photoshop one and it worked just fine in PSE)
Blinkies in PSP (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/psp_blinkie_vb.shtml)
Blinkies in Photoshop (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/ps_blinkie_as.shtml)

Hope this helps with the questions. I had never made blinkies before this week, but it is addicting - so beware!

Oh, Nicole, I just love your groupies. I've been using the other freebie I got from you a lot. Yeah!!!!! More variety.

Maybe there's an easier way, but for me, making a blinkie is like creating those little clay-mation cartoons. Every little move has to be made in a new page. You make the first one, save, then move or add items for the next, save, and so on. And then in my program I pull it all together in tools/flipbook. Hope that helps.

Here is a step by step instructions for making a blinkie with flipbook.
Once you have all your frames/layers made, open up the first frame in your program.
Click on tools, then flipbook.
Then click on Open Picture. (This is where you insert all the different layers) Click on all the layers you made in the order you want them, and then open. (Except the first layer, since that is already open.)
Then click Next.
Make sure the Pattern is marked, (Not solid)
Click Next again.
Next you need to choose the size of the blinkie you want, (for this challenge choose custom and make it 150x50)
Click next
Then pick your speed. I used 4.5 but I also had 12 layers, so you might want to play around with the speed. Just hit next, and you can always hit Back and change the speed over and over before saving.
Once you have the speed you like,
click Save as. Just make sure it saves in gif form.
And that should do it.
Hope that helps.

Here is my first attempt at the blinkie challenge - a bit boring but I was pleased with it. Took HOURS to do, believe it or not.

Thanks for all the help/info about the blinkies...I've tried and tried...still don't know why or what is causing the problem. Oh well....Lovely groupies, though Nicole.
Good luck everyone. Too many choices...it will be a tough poll!

Can we have, like, 20 blinkies and just use a new one every few days? I don't know how we are ever going to select just one of these!!:lol:

I didn't even know there was a new Batman movie until today.  I'm way out of the loop on 'big-kid' films. Somehow I only go to the movie theater with the grandkids. Man, DSP really is a huge place! There's so much to keep track of, which challenges to partake, which you need to buy, which you can just use that you have, which you can win, which ones are great for personal challenging...CIJ is coming on fast, a new Christmas avatar needs to be created, figuring out the new SNL posting process is more or less taken care of, but around the corner is SNL41...when will the fun madness end... So much DSP, so little time!

Hello hello! I have a situation happening here at home. I currently own a lovely Cuisineart Coffee Maker that is pretty cool; it doesn't have a carafe you just press a lever and it dispenses the coffee AND it keeps coffee hot up to 4 hours in it's little square belly. Fast forward to about a year later and I went and bought my own espresso machine, Cuisineart as well (as I was thrilled with the coffee maker). Alas with my new infatuation with cappucinos and lattes my beloved coffee maker has been gathering dust. NOW...I want to make coffee and the beast won't start. It won't even turn on; there is absolutely no power whatsoever. ALTHOUGH...half an hour later I may walk by the coffee maker and it's sitting there with brewed coffee! I am really starting to think, what with the two being Cuisineart, that I have a case of 'Mechanical Rivalry'....

Four hours after my girlfriend left the coffee pot had turned on, naturally I didn't turn it to 'brew' as it was 9:30pm, but in the morning when I went to turn it to 'brew' it had once more gone blank with no power. What a brat!
Thanks for letting me vent....just makes me shake my head....

Oh...Books and Movies...you may never get me to shut up! Last night my sister and some friends went to see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Wow, some amazing performances. I'd not really noticed before, but Christian Bale is ... hot! :love2: Heath Ledger, who passed away early this year, does an absolutely amazing performance as the Joker. A pretty disturbed character to be sure. The audience was pretty appreciative, you could hear smatterings of applause during the movie (which is kind of odd), and at the end of the movie. I was reading that it broke the record for single day movie sales for a non-holiday weekend.

I am about 3/4 of the way through Eclipse, the 3rd book in Stephenie Meyers Twilight trilogy, I have read them all before, I am re-reading them in preparation for the 4th book which comes out on August 2nd. I wanted the story lines to be fresh in my mind.

Oh, I missed so much today. Pink, your blinkie really is pretty. Nicole, oh so sorry about your knee, sounds sooooo painful. Denise (thanks for sharing your name), I even asked DH if he had any ideas about the misfiring coffee pot - did you check for a reset button or a loose wire connection? Carolat - I sure know the busies, too, haven't picked up a book in about 3 months and as for movies, I saw "Horton Hears a Who" when we decided it was time for the twins to experience a theater, but before that......I know it was December, 2003 because the boys were babies and my family came in from out of state. Not sure which movie it was, did one of the Star Wars movies come out that Christmas? I know it was something with special effects that we really wanted to see on the 'big screen', but since we get free cable we just don't spend the money to go anymore.

Well, have a good night all! Need to go get my LO's uploaded.

I stayed in bed this morning until I'd finished my book. I've just read the first in the Children of the Lamp series: The Akhenaten adventure by PB Kerr. Really enjoyed it. The rest of the series is stacked by my bedside. Does anyone else read their kids library books or is it just me? :)

I can't wait to see Dark Knight. It's been a couple of years (if not more!) since I've been in a movie theater...I do most of my movie watching with dvds on the computer. My son tells me that Dark Knight is showing at the IMAX here, but that it was sold out this weekend. I don't know if I could take that big of a screen for that kind of movie after just watching on the computer screen!!

Books--I read myself to sleep most every night. If I picked up a novel during the day, I'd never get anything else done! Roberta, you and I have similar tastes in books, it seems.

Nicole--I sure hope your knee problem isn't serious! Ouch! Holding good thoughts for a quick recovery!

Oh, I love kid's books! Have you read Cynthia Voight's books? They're more juvenile actually. Have you read the Soup books? I read those a couple times. My son loved fantasy which I DIDN'T but he persuaded me to read the Taran books, and I loved those. Gosh, I just wish I'd kept a diary of books I've read, cause I can't remember author's names or titles, and now with grandchildren, there are some I'd really like to get them to read. Well, we had a big storm come through last night and we finally got power back on after losing it over 15 hours ago. And what's the first thing I do when I realize it's back on? Get up and check the zero's club link, of course! Now I have to go reset all those pesky blinking clocks in my house, and empty all the pots and pans we had filled up real quick before we lost water pressure. And I just took a peek at our three oldest who just got back from the Sonshine Festival in Minnesota, at around 5 am, (and are still sleeping, of course) and it looks like they weren't very faithful applying sunscreen like they should have. Ouch!
I don't get as much time to read as I used to, but I prefer inpirational romance and mystery novels. I'm a collector of books that I feel are worth reading over and over again. Some series you can find on my shelves are The Stonewyke trilogies, by Michael Phillips and Judith Pella, The Glenbrooke series, by Robin Jones Gunn (one of my favorite authors) and any of the Amish country books by Beverly Lewis, to name a few.
As far as movies, my favorites are romantic comedies and cloak-and-dagger-type mysteries, which I don't think they make enough of. And my all time-favorite romance movie is "You've Got Mail".

Oh, too too funny! Now I know I have the pickiest eaters ever. My 3 kids won't touch a hot dog with a 10 foot pole. Won't eat french fries or tater tots either. As for tortillas, they would eat that but probably not with butter on it unless it was Peanut butter, oh, and hold the jelly too. One of my 3 seems to live on Graham Crackers with Peanut Butter and the other 2 will eat any form of cereal, tortilla chips with cheese (nachos without all the good stuff), and the occasional PB sandwich (don't forget to hold the jelly again).

Eeeuuwwwhhhh!:eek: But it does sound like you've pretty much hit all the major food groups there: Tortilla probably has grain and maybe corn -- so there is your vege. Hot dog = protein. Spray butter = dairy, sort of. Yep. Just add a chocolate kiss to this meal and you're set!

Well, we had a big storm come through last night

That must have been after it swept through Iowa. We got just a bit of it but no power outage. Glad you are all better now.:):)

Oh, and I see some of the faithful from the Granny Thread have discovered this thread also! We'll have fun now!! :yahoo::yahoo::yippee::yippee:

Favorite movies: I will watch any political intrigue thriller. Love trying to figure out good guys from bad guys when they all look like they could be in either camp! A really old one that is still a favorite is The Hunt for Red October.

OHHH -- and I just discovered the Borne Trilogy. I know those movies were out quite awhile ago but I just saw them last month. Loved the flash-backs and trying to piece it together!!! But I did have to close my eyes during the 5-minute blood-and-guts scene that is in each movie! :o :yikes: :o

OK ...i've got to second the "Eeeuuwwwhhhh!" about the hot dogs. I can't seem to even stand the smell of them. They are right up there with canned Ravioli!!....Eeeuuwwwwww!My grandkids are all really good eaters. One more than the others loves his carbs. The girls tend to love salads. Strang for a child I think...but they love having a salad with all the fixings...including avacado.
For the sweet treat, they love banana (sliced long ways) with PB in the middle, whipping cream on top and hersheys chocolate syrup drizzled on the top. Then sliced and each little bite has its own toothpick. Yep...its always a good treat to count on.
Nicole would have to find something else to drizzle on it because you know she don't like chocolate! Caramel maybe?

Peanut butter with banana!!! Ewwww!

I wanna be a ZERO.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are a Southern tradition. They are wonderful.

ETA: I am not a movie person. I love to read, but have just glanced through my magazines lately as I spend all my time here (and letting dogs in and out, out, in, in, out).

Ok, some of you think peanut butter and banana's is bad (to me that is a super yummy treat), but how do you feel about peanut butter and mayonaise sandwiches. I watched my kid sister eat one of these every day for 6 full years. Yech!!!!!

I have one kid who will eat just aobut anything put in front of him and another who lives off tortillas and cheese, He will sometimes eat other stuff but that is his preference.

As for movies I tend to be a romantic comedy type person, I don't get a chance to read a lot of books( for someone over the age of 5) but I have read the Harry Potter series, and some Jane Austen recently.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches were a staple for me growing up. I thought it was the ultimate til a friend had me over after school and made pb, banana and brown sugar sandwiches...mm good.

I found a quesadilla maker at a garage sale Memorial Day and we've been having them for lunch almost every day since. I'm getting pretty creative at this point. Pizza ones with pineapple, ham, mushrooms, and spinach. Dessert ones with cream cheese, chocolate and pecans.

My kids are really odd when it comes to food. Mixed greens not iceberg lettuce for salad. Marshmallows in between 2 potato chips forming a sandwich. Hot dogs are rare, however they'd eat calamari every day if I let them. Spinach and artichoke dip is another hit.

Books. I read almost everything. Right now I'm reading two books aout hyperparenting -A Nation of Wimps & The Price of Privilege. I'm also reading some parenting books about honor for a Bible study I'm doing this summer. They're by Scott Turansky. Good stuff. Same thing for movies. I'll watch pretty much anything. Sci-fi and Fantasy aren't my favorites. Stupid funny like Super Bad and Hot Rod are my favorites except when I need a good drama.

How's the knee Nicole? Neilston's still nursing his from when the derailer on his bike broke while riding at a rather high rate of speed.

I have one VERY picky eater. When he finds something new he likes, that is all he wants and then I have to re-introduce his old favorites. The twins take turns being the biggest eater. It's like they don't want to get to far apart in size. (I think the most difference in weight was 1 pound.) One of the twins is a carb-o-holic while the other is a gourmet meat eater, when we grill he always sits next to daddy and asks where his steak is.

Not much time for reading right now. We did all just go see Wall-e. DH and I really enjoyed it, oldest loved the robots but didn't grasp the story, and the other two slept through almost the whole thing. (fortunately, we didn't have to buy them tickets, LOL)

Well, my knee is much better today! I am still a little nervous to run on it, but I am sure its nothing serious at this point! :)
And funny thing---I just ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich last night! I am not a huge fan of peanut butter, but with bananas, its really really good! I always add a squirt of honey too, that makes it perfect!!!

Mommabyrd- what Scott Turansky book are you reading? I have read Parenting a Child's Heart, its a fantastic book and I met him at a Children's Pastor's Conference that I went to last winter.
Ok....better go get some work done :D

Nicole, I do hope the knee is good and not just "hiding"!
Haven't gone to a movie in a couple years, actually. Well, my son's preschool went to see "Surf's Up" last year and I went. But I haven't seen a grown-up movie in forever.
I'm waaay behind on reading as well. Just don't get that much me time. I've seen several mentioned in this thread, though, that look worthwhile, so thanks!
PB---not a big fan, only ever eat it with chocolate or the occasional cookie, but pb&banana sandwiches were present in my house growing up. My kids would NEVER eat them.
My oldest is a picky eater but atleast I'm finally getting him to try things...even if it is "just the one bite and that's it!". He does love salads, taco night, applesauce, hotdogs--warm, no butter!, fruits of all kinds, broccoli. He HATES pizza, spaghetti, anything like that, soups, mac and cheese.
My youngest, well he's a picky eater of a whole different color. He's Autistic, with a lot of sensory issues. He will go days without eating! Very limited choices, usually they are all brown in color---crackers, toast, breaded nuggets--crunchy and he mainly only eats the outer edges. Does like dry, cold, crisp iceberg lettuce.
Both only drink water or milk and both won't touch ice cream, cake/cupcakes, pudding, yogurt and most cookies with a ten-foot pole.

You ladies sure have made the Blinkie Poll tough!! Great work!

I just found this "club". Can I join, huh, huh, huh??? Please oh please oh please let the "old" lady in!! LOL I never win at any game so I should fit in just fine since my score is usually zero! I keep trying tho....

All my picky eaters have moved out and some have picky eaters of their own now (pay backs!) I remember PB and Banana sandwiches and if I mention them to someone else, they curl their nose up and think "Yuck". Glad to be part of a group that respects the finer things in life! LOL

Currently reading The Historian.
It's by Elizabeth Kostova. A young woman's quest to learn the truth about her father's life and her mother's death involves research into Vlad the Impaler and Dracula.

Picked it up at the grocery store the other day and have to admit I thought it would grip me a little bit more...sort of drags on a bit...

While I have a lot of favorite books my all time favorite author is Diana Gabaldon (Oh Carola, has there ever been a union like Claire and Jamie *sigh*)...Almost afraid that they make the Outlander series a movie as I think it won't live up to my imagination.

That entire storyline about Claire and Jamie is so neat! Absolutely awesome:) I just love the time-travel aspect of it all. Gotta go - trying to get my mom on messenger so she can se my layouts and we can im at the same time - hello is gone so messenger will have to do - be back later!

Christina -- That quesadilla maker sounds awesome! Never heard of one. I'll have to keep my eye out for one!

I remember banana-PB sandwiches from my childhood also.

Speaking of PB: What about celery with PB slathered in the 'crease' and then with raisins nestled on top of the PB? We still call those 'bumps on a log' and we still have them at holiday time. Anyone else ?

Now there' a blinkie that has to be made; The Outlander lovers! The latest couple of Gabaldon books have a tad tooo much historical data that I get wistful for the old days about the neat characters... but really it's a great romance without being overly smutty; it's gritty and it's colorful, full of humor and neato facts! I was hooked from day one! :)

There's a quote in one of the books that really stands out for me when someone (Jaimie's grandma?) mentions that "All boys have a bit o' the devil in them"....Love that!

Deb: my son is in grade 3 and during nutrition segments they were introduced to the wonderful world of 'ants on a log'. My son was dying to make them although you can bet your bottom dollar that if I had suggested such a thing he would have wanted nothing to do with it!

Since I don't have kids that's not a problem for me. I can read ANYWHERE but my favorite place is at night in bed. No matter how tired I am, I love to read some before I go to sleep.
I never liked ants on a log but some in my family did. I liked cheddar cheese in celery which mom did on special occasions. The other special occasion thing I loved was her devilled eggs. I make them sometimes but they never taste as good as hers, course that could have something to do with old, worn out taste buds!

I'm exhausted. We had a busy weekend. We went camping with the Cub Scouts. The camp ground was hilly so we did a lot of walking. They provided all of the meals which was nice. We ate well. Unfortunately I've also got a sinus headache.

Hi cowboy...pull up a chair!

I like a comfy chair for reading...the bed is nice but I always fall asleep.
I usually have to have some background noise as well...helps me concentrate better on what I'm reading. *shrug*

No ants near my food, even pretend ones! I like cream cheese, plain is fine, but usually some type of cream cheese spread, or some chicken salad spread on my celery sticks.

Hope everyone is enjoying their CIJ festivities!!

hello hello!
In bed, nice and warm with a cup of tea at hand.

That is DEFINITELY my number 1 reading location! When I was a little girl I used to wake up and make my tea and cereal and curl right back into warm sheets with my books. Now though...I just need a cup of tea minus the cereal. I've tried to read in the bathtub but I can't last....I find it a struggle to hold the books out of the water; rather relax 100% with a stable mattress! :p

Renee, left a pm for you, your blinkie is full of vim and vigor!! The red really pulls you in to come have fun!

Ok, lots to catch up on.....

I enjoyed the Gabaldon books too. Haven't read one in a long time, are there more than 3?

PB on celery was a staple at my house, but yet to get the kids to try it. I will have to try the cream cheese and the chicken salad sounded good to. Maybe I could get the kids to do ants on a log (more likely if someone else suggested it).

When I read, I like to read in bed too. Although these days it's usually during the kids TV hour on the couch. (Not everyday mind you so it takes weeks to finish anything). I haven't picked up a book in months.

Well, time for lunch, gotta get the kids in and hands washed.
