Can someone tell me if it is possible to take clipart and turn it into a brush in Photoshop 7? I have an image I got from one of my clip art CDs and would love to turn it into a brush to use on backgrounds. I know how to do it in Paint Shop Pro, but cannot figure out how to do it in Photoshop. I found several pieces of clipart that I would love to put in a collection of brushes for various occasions, like Valentine's Day, or St. Patrick's Day, etc., with several brushes in each collection, if possible, instead of having a folder of several individual brushes.
If I can't get this figured out, I guess I will just have to create my brushes in PSP and make my backgrounds in that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well you can but it will be in greyscale - brushes are not like psp tubes - they are simply a brush tip - you can make that tip any shape you desire ( and have it do many things- but it is not likea tube .
To create a brush you make a selection around your clip art and then go edit - define brush ( or brush preset in PSCS)
that will save the brush tip - it can be used as a stamp like that( but will never reflect the colour of the original image

Thanks, Lauren for the answer.
Yes I already know it's not like a tube. Even in PSP, if I turn a clipart image into a brush, it's greyscale. Tubes are totally different. I guess I should have defined more clearly what I meant about "clip art" - this is just a line art drawing of hearts and leaves, black and white, but I called it clip art because it came on a Clip Art Cd.

I love making brushes out of clipart. I made a cute little football brush the other day from a clipart. It turned out wonderful.
Great question :)
Hi, Debi. Lauren's 211 class and my PSE 261 class talk about how to make and save a brush, using the Preset Manager to save them all in a set.
First create all your brushes. Put all your clipart onto an image, then use the selection tool to draw around a shape, Edit>Define Brush. Then select the next and so on until they're all defined.
Then Edit>Preset Manager and select all the brushes you just created to save into one abr file. Click Save and only those selected brushes will be in the set.

Emma, Thank you! Your instructions were very clear for me. I was able to create a whole set of new brushes with a valentine theme from some things off of my Clip Art Cds! I really appreciate your help. :)

This is great - I didn't know you could make your own brushes, and I just tried it and it's SO cool!!!
What else don't I know!!!
It's fun, isn't it?! PSE can make its own brushes too, as can PSP. Have fun with it!

Hi,
I am ready to bite something. I made my first page in Photo Shop 7 and being that this is the first one it took me a couple of hours reading the tutorial then trying to make it work. I finally finished it (whew) and tried reading the tutorial on how to resize it for download. I went to resize and changed the resolution and size. The tutorial said to lock all the layers so that they would all resize together. Well I can't find any button or box that says to lock all layers. When I hit the OK button it resizes about half of the things I put on my LO resize so I keep doing the edit undo thing. Can anybody help me
I checked the PS Resize Tutorial and the Image>Resize command, and I don't see any mention of locking layers to resize together...Paint Shop Pro has that, but will resize only the active/current layer, not just some of them...
Can you quote the part you're confused on? I can't find it...

Hi,
I created my first scrapbook page in Photo shop 7. I read the tutorial on resizing on the web site, so I could send it to the gallery. I went to Image > image size and I entered 72 on the resolution and 550 on the width and height. Below this I have two boxes that you can check. One says constrain proportions and the other says resample image. When I looked at the box example in the tutorial section on resizing it shows a box that you can check locking all layers together so they will all resize together. I have tried everything I can think of. Under Layers > lock all linked layers.. that didn't work. On the layers tool box in the lower right I have locked all the layers and still nothing works. Everytime I try resizing my page I get the wierdest jumble of resized and unresized objects. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
I am sorry. I am using Adobe Photoshop. Did I make a mistake and call it Paint shop? I tried making a page in Paint Shop and ended up almost crying. I found Photo Shop easier to use.
The little link icon in the Resize box is not for resizing all the layers together, but rather for resizing the vertical and horizontal dimensions in proportion. Make sure you check Constrain Proportions and use in the Resample box: Bicubic Smarter or Bicubic Sharper.
That's all you need to do. Don't worry about the locking layers or anything. At the very most, you can save your layout in the larger size as a psd, then Layers>FLATTEN layers if you want to, THEN resize.
hth, not sure if what you're seeing are some layers not resizing, or just out of proportion, or what. If you need to, attach a screen shot of the problem. Hit Print Screen, then File>New with Clipboard in the Size, then Edit>Paste to paste the shot. Then resize as best you can, save for web, and click Manage Attachments in the Reply to this and browse to that file.
LMK how that goes

Thank you, Thank you, It worked. I really hate being such a newbie, I am just starting digital scrapbooking and it is hard to learn a new program. I keep hoping that if I presevere I will succeed.
