Okay, here's your chance to create a wishlist for Adobe. The best part???? You DON'T have to be attending the Adobe crop to post!

Post anything you wish Adobe would change, fix, add, throw out, etc. in either PSE or Photoshop. Explain what you'd like to see (and maybe why - if you think that is important) and tell us which program and version you use.

Margie says she can pass these ideas on to the Adobe folk at some point...so start "wishing...and hoping...and praying...and planning..." :)

Text on a path or in a shape would be awesome. I use PSE 6.

I wish that when you added a stroke to the outside of a rectangle the corners would be square rather than rounded (or at least have the option to choose).

OK here's a BIG wish... how about PS offered on a subscription basis. So instead of buying the actual software, you would pay an annual subscription fee and have full access to the application and updates. I recently read that Micro Soft was going to offer this for their Office Suite of products and it's how I get my virus/spyware protection. Sounds like a good idea to me. :D TY Margie for passing things along! -c-

No matter what my screen resolution is set to, I wish that "view print size" would accurately display my psd file to that print size.

Margie -

Thank you for the opportunity to have our requests heard.

I've used Pagemaker for years and these are some of the things I miss in PSE that it had.

I've used Pagemaker for years and these are some of the things I miss. Tile printing. You can mark different areas of a larger document to print out which in the end can be pieced together to have the entire document. I used this feature tons for school projects.
The control palette which is a palette that you can quickly type in specifications like crop size, the size to draw a shape, font info appears and can be changed. All things you can do in PSE, however it's just not all in one place or as easy.
Text on a path is another biggie for PSE.

Bring back the lighter color scheme for PSE. The darker one is the reason I've not upgraded.
And everything everyone has asked for and...

Oh yeah, this is a good one. Drives me crazy! (the workaround I use is to create a separate layer and make a "mat" but that takes more time)

I wish there was a preference that you could set so that when you went to "transform," the default could be "maintain aspect ratio" so you didn't have to click on the little lock button. It's rare that I do not want to maintain the aspect ratio, so I end up clicking the lock every time. It's just one extra step.

I wish filters could be added as an adjustment layer, it would be much easier to turn them on and off to see if I like the effect.

Get rid of the red default stroke in layer styles

Just like in the Microsoft Office products, I would like to be able to create an item (text box, graphic, element, etc.) that is a defined size and to be able to place it in a defined spot. For example, a 3" x 2" text box that is 4" from the left side and 2.75" from the top. I hate messing around with dragging things out next to the ruler and then trying to be "perfect" placing them.

And thank you so much for this opportunity to share our wishes with Adobe!

I just starting using PS. I really wish it had a photo bin at the bottom for all the open files, just like PSE has. It's a very helpful feature.

I started out with PSE and now used PSCS3. I still miss the Photo Bin terribly! Is there any way it could be an option in PS?

Also, I'm in strong agreement with these ideas mentioned above:

-- I wish filters could be added as an adjustment layer..
-- how about PS offered on a subscription basis...
-- The control palette...all in one place or as easy

But mostly the Photo Bin -- I think people who have always used PS and never used PSE don't know what they're missing or they would be clamoring for this feature.

(the workaround I use is to create a separate layer and make a "mat" but that takes more time)

a quicker workaround is just to choose "inside" instead of outside, then the corners are square.

Something in pse5 that they got rid of in version 6 was being able to drag up OR down to add things to a LO. I'd like to see that come back - it's the reason I haven't upgraded to 6 yet.

Another thing I would love to have in PSE is the ability to have text wrap around an object like you can in Word. (like this layout: Christine Falls (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=270487&ppuser=77433) ) I had to use two separate text boxes to get it to go around the photo, which is fine, until I decide to change the journaling and then I have to copy and paste between the two boxes to get the words in the right places. It would be nice if there was a way to do that automatically, or to have non-rectangular text boxes.

In PSCS3, I would like more flexibility when aligning layers. Currently if you have two objects and align them left, right, top or bottom the layers are aligned to the layer that is the most to the left, right, top or bottom. I can work with these. But for centering, if you select two layers and click to center them (either vertically or horizontally), the layers are, well, centered to the middle of the two layers.

The functionality I would prefer: I select Layer A first, call it the target layer, it will not move. Then I select Layer B, and click to center align. Rather than finding the middle between the two layers, I would like Layer A to stay where it is, and for only Layer B to move so that it is centered relative to Layer A.

Get rid of the red default stroke in layer styles

According to Jack Nack from Adobe, they are changing the red default to black in the next version http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2008/archives/1641. The whole article is an interesting read.
Scott Kelby posted a top ten list of requested features (http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2008/archives/1607) that his readers would like to see in a new version. His readers are mainly photographers so it is interesting to see their main concerns are a little different from ours (although of course there are overlaps given that we are photograhers as well as scrapbookers!).

What I would like to see? Well one thing is the option to use the photo ratio to crop a photo in CS (loved that in PSE and was extremely annoyed to discover that it wasn't in CS3. An upgrade isn't always an upgrade guys :) )

my Adobe wish is simple really, I have PS6 and can't buy just an upgrade to get to CS3, I have to buy the whole $700 software, again! So my wish is that they could find a way to reduce the cost of their software or make upgrades retro fit back farther than just one or two versions.

*How about movable guide lines in PSE (6)?
*I also hate the dark background/set up - white/light grey would be better.
*It would be nice if we could change our default settings to those we most commonly use (thinking specifically the depth/distance in shadows. The current PSE6 default of a "low shado" is 28 distance/14 size -- WAY too huge!

I started working on a wishlist for Adobe way back when i first decided to attend the crop, so I was quite excited to see these threads, and I love so many of the ideas mentioned previously. I use PSE 6.
- I certainly echo the request for text on a path.
- The ability to select all layers, then de-select some layers, & finally perform the desired function (like apply drop shadows where the size/distance are all likely to be the same)
- A way to change the default settings for styles, especially drop shadows, to user preferences rather than factory default.
- A digital readout for the rulers or, even better, a caliper-like tool that would allow a user to measure either the inside or outside dimensions of an object. For example, I like to crop pictures I use in quick clicks and frames to maximize the image size, so I spend a lot of time moving the cursor right to left and top to bottom and then subtracting to get the approximate dimensions. It would be so C-O-O-L to not have to do that anymore!

I have yet to make the move (because I need to do some computer housekeeping first) from PSE to PS...and I KNOW it is going to kill me not to have the photo bin! ACK!!!

Maybe there is a way to do this next idea (anyone?) or maybe it is just because I'm using an antiquated version of PSE (vs. 3!)...but I wish there were more shortcuts. Like, for example, using ctrl-w to close things in the aforementioned photo bin. I wish I knew a shortcut (none is listed) for things like starting the rotate command, etc.

I know, I have to open it manually and then make my blinkie from there - it was so much more convenient when we could go straight from Photoshop!

too funny! i hate the photo bin. :D

tara, do you mean just to rotate a layer? like hit control T to transform then you can rotate it??

hoozie and carolat, you don't need image ready now! just open the animation window (in ps) and pretend you're IN image ready. just do the animation and save as a gif!

It would be wonderful to have a desk top in PS so you didn't have to deal with a ton of windows if you had a LO ON the desk top then you could move an element in decide if you liked or not and then move to the desk top to wait and see if you liked or when you need to layer or rearrange layers ifyou could move things off rather than having to grab something and move up and down the layers palette that would be so helpful to scrapbookers also if we could rotate a pattern from the patterns menu right when we flood fill rather than having to fill, flatten, then rotate or create the pattern rotated then flood fill it would be wonderful otherwise we end up filling corners and loosing scale

You can still make blinkies. It is built into Photoshop now.
Just go to
WINDOW>ANIMATION
this will open up a small window where you will have all the little frames like you did before.
just make up your blinkie then just save by using the

Just a couple of comments regarding a couple of items on the wish list.

I wasn't sure if people were talking about elements or CS3, but for CS3 you can place shadows on a separate layer. Once you have placed your shadow around your text or object, then right click on the layer, in the layers platte and select create layer. If you have for example, a shadow and a stroke, it will place "each" of them on it's "own" layer.

Another comment, again if you are using CS3, you can get an element placed in a defined spot. Just open your element, take your selection tool....which ever you want...and select the element, copy it, go to your LO, take your rectangular marquee tool, draw a box where you want the element to go (have your ruler active if you want to lay it in a defined spot) and then paste. While it might not be exactly what Marriedin79 is looking for, it works real slick. You can also do the paste into which is different and then in the layers platte, click on the elements thumbnail, CNT T and then resize it. Again, probably not exactly the same, but a work around.

For CS3, my custom page sizes, resolution and background color all appear in the NEW, Present>DROPDOWN box. I orgianlly saved them as PRESETS in that box and since then, they do stay there and I never have to make new sizes again. Possibly it is in Elements you can't do this.

spell/grammar check
"newspaper" type text alignment button

You can justify text in PS and PSE. Opne a text box, enter your text and then with your cursor still in the text box press Ctrl-Shift-J on the keyboard. this should justify your text within the box. Once you have done this it seems to default to having justified text but you can fix that by clicking on one of the text alignment buttons.

With regard to the spell check. I get around this by typing journaling in Word, spell checking it there and then copying and pasting into a PS text box. Sometimes it's easier to type the journaling in Word anyway, then I can read it easier than on my layout. Also I can type up journaling ideas and notes as life goes on and transfer them to a layout later on.

Hope this helps.

when I asked the adobe engineers for autosave, they explained to me that such a function would basically stop your workflow for several minutes every 10 or so .I must say I wasn't the only one who asked for it either!!!!so hopefully they will eventually work out a way to do it without affecting the workflow!!!

I would be completely impressed if they could do that, but somehow I doubt it. A Microscoff program I sometimes work in has autosave. It's such a big interruption that there have been times it's even caused a crash. I'll keep manually saving for now. What I wish is that saving didn't erase the undo buffer.
