View Full Version : Plot a Plopper - with a Twist!

Here's the plan - just like in the previous plot a plopper challenges, YOU pick the pieces you want from my products. THEN I assemble them for you. This one will have a twist - and those who do a layout will then get a bonus. So here are the guidelines this time:
Look at MY products (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=49) in the store (or from my various posting bonuses, freebies, whatever, as long as it's something I created). Choosing from individual elements and backgrounds from my page kits and add on packs, as a group, you will give me a list of 20 things.
The first seven posters below will list ONE BACKGROUND each from any of my page kits/aops of their choice.
The following thirteen posters will list ONE ELEMENT each from any of my page kits/aops of their choice.
At the end of twenty posts below, I should have a list of 20 of my kit bits. One post per member please!
I'll update this post after that so watch this space! You'll darn sure get a freebie, so you'll want to do that! Now, this time is a bit different to the former challenges, but for reference see here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31466)!
Edit!!!! Details for Challenge are Posted - see page 2 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=504902#post504902)!

Okay, sorry I didn't get back in a timely manner - we had a bad storm here with lots of power flickering so I turned my computer off.
Bebimora posted the last element and unless I hit a snag I'm cutting it off there. I'll be back later tonight with the twist!

YOU PEOPLE ARE A LOT EASIER ON YOURSELVES THAN YOU ARE ON MEEEEEEEE!!!!
Now, let me explain that. Here's the TWIST - I'M not going to do the plopper, YOU ARE! But lookee all the goodies you have to work with! They go together much better than you have given me in the past!
I separated the bits into a "kit" and an "add on pack". You get the "kit" now. I will send the "aop" out as a bonus, just once, this Saturday night, at 10 pm or shortly afterwards. To qualify for that, you must make a plopper (or a layout) from the main "kit" using ALL 12 PIECES, by that time. I was going to be more lenient on that, but I see they all mesh fairly well, you can do it!
Rules: (not many!)
You MUST use all 12 pieces in the "kit" and I must be able to recognize them.
You MUST create a real layout or a plopper - no slapping the layers on and calling it done. Ploppers are merged png files with holes for photos. You are making it for yourself, so don't waste your own time - create something you might really use later, if you aren't doing a layout with them now. Remember you can always change it a bit afterward if you save your layered file too.
You MUST post a link to your plopper or layout in this thread so I don't miss it! It can be in your own gallery, CIJ gallery, Elizabeth's Extras Gallery, or any other challenge gallery if it happens to be doing double duty.
You MAY recolor and resize any element or background.
You MAY crop and cluster the elements, or hide part of them behind other pieces, as long as they are recognizeable to me. If you're not sure, just make a note in your description what something is.
You MAY crop or fold the papers into any shape.
Are you up to it? The downloadable "kit" will be available through Friday 25th. Layouts or ploppers will be due by 10 pm Saturday July 26.
Materials for your plopper - download [link removed at time's end].

Posting bonus "aop":
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/1703/49bonusplotaplopper4nu2.jpg
Okay! Let me know of any questions! Thanks all - I can't wait to see your creations!!!!

I'm game, but is there a tutorial somewhere for how to save as a .png? I'm still pretty new at all this, but excited to give it a go! :santa1:
webfrau
07-23-2008, 12:35 AM
Man that is some twist! What a challenge!
Elisabeth
07-23-2008, 12:46 AM
To save as a png file - first create everything layered as you wish it to be, just as you would a layout. You should save your layered file before cutting the holes if you might want to adjust something later.
Next, (and I'm assuming you're using the yellow/recolored frame for these purposes) hide the yellow frame layer, then merge all other visible layers. Make the frame visible again. Select all the areas inside the frame holes, (and if you like, enlarge the selection by a few pixels, just to make sure you catch any strays), then go to your other merged layer and "cut". You then have holes in your layout for photos, and should see only the software background, usually checked gray and white.
If you want to make other photo "holes" - there are other considerations if you don't use the frame, mainly shadows. But if you have trouble I'm available for questions.
In paint shop pro, "export" as a png. In photoshop, "save" as a png file.
Now, having said all that, for the purposes of putting it in the gallery here - you can really just upload a screen capture of your plopper with the holes - as opposed to going through the last step of saving it as a png, then resizing for web.
If you aren't comfortable creating your own plopper then you can certainly make a layout - either is acceptable!

Here is my first attempt at creating a plopper; http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=271619
I made it 8x10 cause I'm working on creating next year's calander. I also saved it as a PNG but I am not sure how to resize it once it was saved in that format, so I couldn't upload it to DSP in that format. I'd be happy to share it with anyone who'd like a copy in PNG if someone knows how to resize in Paint Shop Pro-X. (I usually just resize my JPEGs in Paint).
oh can I play? I just found u! I'd love to give a try at making a plopper!
hmmm, I'm having a heck of a time..my program keeps closing everytime I open the kit...guess I gotta reboot, c if that works...cross your fingers for me.

oh my gosh, I just backed tracked to find your info...some how I missed it b4...but Yay! I went back and figured out the yellow frame. now I gotta go back and figure out some more! thanks a bunch!

Enjoyed making the plopper. Haven't been able to figure out how to save as png without the file being so large. First time using a thumbnail, thanks to Kim's Tutorial.

Oh yes, upload as a jpg, definitely! The png plopper is just for you, for later, to have if you don't make your layout now.
I'm loving these! I haven't had a chance to comment on all of them yet but I love some of the creativity you've all put in!

That would be fun, but there are just way too many to zip up and give out in png format. You are welcome to swap with each other though - the flattened, png files.
I'll be back tonight to send out the bonus, and there's no twist with that, I promise! You won't have to follow any instructions or rules, just enjoy, lol!
