Got it finished last night. Mixed feelings about it. Unfortunately, my least favorite book of the series. Maybe my expectations were too high.
I finished earlier today. Sorry, would have been done much sooner if I didn't have to go to not 1, not 2, but THREE birthday parties yesterday!
I agree with you Maria. Least favorite. I found it odd and gross at times!

SPOILER ALERT**************
Ok, so my main bones of contention:
1. The whole pregnancy thing. Just felt wrong from the get go.
2. I was expecting some huge showdown w/ the Volutari, and wow, what a anti-climax that was
3. The whole Jacob imprinting on Reneseme (or whatever, a terrible name IMO) was disturbing. I'd have much rather seen him with Leah (wouldn't it be nice to have some "natural" relationship somewhere in this where people have to work on their relationship)?
4. Bella didn't seem very Bella to me in most of the book. This was not the girl who I really had felt was strong and unique and true to herself. I just didn't "feel" her in this book. Hard to explain. I feel somewhat the same about Edward, but not as much as feeling the loss of "our Bella".
5. Everyone ends up beautiful, happy and graceful. Everyone. Gag.
6. This part actually bothered me from the beginning. Bella was always too eager to give up her mortality. And she does, and there are no consequences for it, other than the whole beauty (see #5) thing.
Some things I did like:
* Seth
* The blonde jokes
Ok, short list. LOL
Anywhoo. Other's thoughts?

I read it in 33 hours I totally coulda read it faster if I didn't have to sleep and if I didn't have to go to a baseball game yesterday or go grocery shopping today..........
1. I liked the book but seriously the ending was all talk and no action it was putting me to sleep!!!
2. Seriously was Bella HORNY or whut?!?!?!?!? like every couple mins my friend and I looked at each other and were like god Bella is SUCH a Horndog!!!!!
3. I was sooooooooo right about the pregnancy thing when she was craving the eggs and then when she made the chicken I KNEW I was right!!!
4. I liked reading in Jacobs point of view!!!
5. Seriously I wanted Jacob and Leah to end up together!!! When Bella came back from her hunt a Jake was all protective of Renemee (or whatever her name is :P) I was like YOU DIDN'T?!?!?! and then I later I was like *GASP* YOU DID!!!!!!!!!!! I was MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. hehehe I liked the blonde jokes that was funny!!!
7. And again the end was Alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll talk and no action I was seriously falling asleep!!!
Sooooooooo How were your midnight release parties??? My friend Bre and I went together and she made me dress up and so I wore a read dress and then I put baby powder all over my face to make me look Pale and then my mom put eye shadow on me to make it look like I had bruises under my eyes and when my friend first saw me she asked if I hadn't slept the night before cause of the make up XD and then we went to the party and all they did was just have us do Twilight trivia (which they didn't give out prizes for :P) and then they just let us wonder around the store until midnight then they sold us the books and let us go home and I went and stayed the night at my friends house and we reading it at the same time and I was always ahead of her!!!

Thanks for the link Pink, that is a great song for Jacob. Too bad someone had to yell in the middle of this tender performance.
Our release party was ok. I felt the oldest person there. LOL I won a T-shirt that says "I love Edward" on the back, on the front is a local radio station's logo. I gave it to a friend that was with us. There were several other things going on, they had a drawing to win 1 of 4 signed copies off Breaking Dawn (I wanted to turn my t-shirt in for one!), free psychic readings, which was by far the most popular thing going on, photo ops, body paint and glitter, etc. Lots of people dressed up, most just in "team Edward' type t-shirts.
Well, I agree with you guys!
The pregnancy thing, I expected when she was "so hungry", then of course the chicken thing..
The way the baby grew was freaky. The fact that Bella drank human blood as a human in a cup through a straw totally grossed me out! OMG
Then the way the baby was born. They kept saying she'd have to bite her way out. ew???? And in the end Bella just kinda ripped open. Ew again!
The name was worse than awful. Why couldn't she of gone with her middle name Carlie as her 1st?? It bothered me through the whole book.
Jacob imprinting on Nessie neither bothered me or was unexpected. I knew the minute he'd decided to kill her that he'd never be able to do it b/c he was about to imprint. I'm sure that's why we were reminded at the beginning of the book about Quil and his imprinting on Claire.
I've said for the longest time Jake was going to imprint on a vamp, so I was 1/2 right! ;) I always figured it would be on of the Denali's.
YES, Furball (two pinky's in the thread!), Bella seriously needed another hobby than the one she liked so much! I was shocked our little Stephenie put SO much s#x in there! None of it was graphic, but there was a LOT of it!
I wanted something to happen for Leah. She seemed so unhappy. I knew she wouldn't be imprinting on Jacob or vice versa. That would have happened the 1st time after they'd become "shape shifters"/wolves. Still I wanted something to happen to make her happy...
I DID like reading Jake's POV. That was pretty cool actually.
I never figured Bella would suffer through the "newborn" stage. I just couldn't see how she could and still be the one telling our story. I wasn't surprised when she 'skipped' it.
It did seem like Bella got everything with no suffering tho, didn't it?
I felt Edward was out of whack in this book too. Odd. He just wasn't Edward. Bella, don't hurt me people, has never been my favorite player in the series, so her being odd wasn't that big of deal to me!
ITA that the climax was very ANTI climatic! Boring.............
Yes, everyone ended up happy, even Charlie & Sue! Well, everyone but poor Leah!
The whole J Jenks thing took too long to explain and mean nothing in the end.
I was really quite bored through parts of the book.
And again, the human blood in a cup with a straw being sucked up by a human? ew. gross.

Well, I actually really liked the book! Too bad it sounds like most of you were disappointed. I did think it was slow at points, but it made for fast reading. (I thought the other books dragged in places as well).
I saw the pregnancy coming - there was lots of foreshadowing. I'm thinking Stephanie must have planned that b/c of the whole --- before turning Vampire promise. I thought it was a unique and interesting plot line.
I liked the tension between Edward and Bella over the baby's life. As a mother, I can see how she would feel she instantly and intensely protective of the baby. Also, it very cool that Stephanie tied in Rosalie as the baby's/Bella's protector.
I found the way the baby was growing fascinating. Of course, since the baby had vampire strength, she was too strong for a human mother. The ripping apart of Bella was really graphic and gross, but I also thought it built the suspense. It was hard to believe Bella would ever be killed off, but with the birth being so graphic & violent, it made it seem more of a possibility. More suspenseful.
Of course, Bella drinking blood was totally disgusting. But, it was also humorous. You know, the whole pregnant woman craving what the baby wants thing. (for example: I HATE beets! But when I was pregnant with my first baby I could not stop eating them. As soon as she was born, I was back to hating beets. The interesting thing is that my daughter has always LOVED beets!)
I didn't find the fact that Bella wanted so much physical contact with Edward odd at all. I mean, here's Edward, the world's most brilliant, talented, gorgeous vampire :D And, she did have teen hormones ;) The se@ual tension had been building for 3 books! I think I would have been like that with Edward too
I was glad Jacob imprinted on Nessie. I had been feeling so sad for him for 2 books, so I was glad that he finally found his true mate. It was weird that she was a baby, but Stephanie kind of softened that blow in her previous book with Quil's experience.
Bella's character fitting right in as a vampire was completely right for the series. Especially since it's biggest fans are tweens & teens. Think about it, the biggest fear of adolescents is not fitting in. Bella had never felt like she "fit" as a human. Then she becomes a vampire and finally finds her true self. I think that would really appeal to that audience. (a wish fulfillment thing)
Also, Bella's gift being a protective shield was perfect. She'd always shielded herself from others. Now, as a vampire, Bella was able to shield the ones she loved. (And I loved how she was able to drop that shield for Edward at the end! true love, no boundries)
The thing with J Jenks was just a diversion to make us think that Alice really had foreseen their deaths. In general, though, it was really hard to believe that Alice would ever abandon her family.
I agree the ending was anti-climatic after all the suspense. A happy "forever" after. Again, I think that would really appeal to teens. A true Hollywood ending.
But, I wonder if Stephanie's setting it up for a new series. Possibly with Jake and Nessie? Several characters made it clear that the fight with the Voltarie (sp?) was only over for now. What do you think? Day Breaks? LOL
Sorry, I seem to have written a novela of my own  Over all, I liked the book and was happy with the series ending. I am a big, sloppy, gushy romantic!

I thought the book was Ok. Not sure I even liked it yet. Still pondering.
I guess I just had a grand Deathly Hallows ending in my head.

hehehe well the romantic happy ever after girl that I am loved it all the only loose end for me really was Leah who I really thought should have ended up with Jacob but in saying that I also liked the idea of Jacob and Belle being connected through Nessie
I did feel that the intensity and romance was lost a bit in Edward and Belles relation taken over by the whole passion thing.
I also felt that the big build conflict at the end was a bit of a let down but it was satisfying that none of the main characters were killed.
I was left feeling very satisfied and complete at the end.
I'm a "happy ending girl" too, but for some reason, I didn't close this book with a smile on my face.

I'm about 100 pages from the end, but I'm one of those that has to get an idea of the ending before I read it. Like now, I know that everything ends OK, so I'm good to take my time getting to the end, LOL. I really have enjoyed it and slacked off on work to read it (I work at home, so don't have to worry about a boss breathing down my neck) yesterday. I really LOVE it! Maybe I'm not as disappointed as some of you about the characters not seeming themselves because it's been a while since I read the first 3 (think last November?) and I only read them once. Maybe I'll be a little more disappointed when I re-read them before the movie comes out in December, but I love this book! And the se*ual tension really got to me... I didn't think Steph had it in her, LOL! Whew! I was glad when the honeymoon was over and I could think about other things :D

Ok - you can call me dumb if you want, but I still don't get the cover art... I've read the book, but I still just don't get it. Has Stephenie released the final explanation yet? I know Tina will know ;)
I haven't heard, but to me it shows how weak Bella was as a human and how powerful she became as a vampire.

Thanks, Tina! I really did think about Bella as the white queen, but that little red pawn is still just boggling my mind :D

When I was reading before the part where they "defeat" the Volturi I thought that the Cullens would defeat the Volturi in an actual battle and then they would be considered the new vampire royalty and that Edward and Bella would be king and queen and I thought that is what the white queen on the cover meant but.................
I think Bella is the red pawn too. Pawns are weak and its red b/c she was filled with blood.

I finally finished today (sorry family!) and totally loved it. But I'm a happy ending kind of girl too.
I totally suspected the pregnancy. Weirded me out that she drank blood, but seemed logical. I was like "no way" when he imprinted on nessie. I liked how strong Bella became. She found her true self.
There was a LOT of S#X in the book...but hello...they were newlyweds! Weren't we all that way????? Awww...brought back memories and was sad dh was out of town. Did I just say that out loud??????

repost from cover art thread...
Cover Art symbolism revealed!
At tonights Seattle Breaking Dawn Concert Series, Stefenie revealed the symbolism behind the covers...
Twilight - the idea of CHOICE - will Bella choose to live or believe?
New Moon - no symbolism, some publishing drone just thought the tulip was cool...
Eclipse - the difficulty in breaking the fabric of her life & relationships - its never a "clean break"
and
Breaking Dawn - the red pawn is the human Bella: frail, weak, powerless - the Queen is the strong, bold, powerful Bella - and the chessboard is symbolic of the mental game that they had to play to WIN in the end (without loss of life- a true, clear battle with a true, clear winner).
There you have it :) *almost* straight from the author's lips :p
woohooo! Im so clever. lolol... you all know that's NOT true. Lucky guess!

Last night she said her next project is finishing Midnight Sun (the Edward perspective book), and then probably a new story line - likely a ghost story of some kind. But, she said there are many stories in her head, with a lot of off shoots for other characters from the Twilight series, so we may see more in the future.
