Guys!!! My girls are starting school in less than ONE WEEK!!! Our summer is OVER! I don't know whether to cry, freak out, be totally psyched that I'll have only 2 kids at home all day............ Or all of the above!! But mostly, I've been thinking that I really wanted to use my blog (my poor, neglected, rarely-ever-updated blog) to JOURNAL about our summer... The trip to the beach, all the time spent at the pool... how many times I looked down to see our fearless Charlie floating in the baby pool -- and seriously, I was rarely comfortable taking my hands off him, the little daredevil! I'd fish him out and he'd laaauuuughhhh... man, what a turkey... But now this summer is coming to a close... And it's bittersweet. So, I want to get it all down somehow before I forget the little stuff that happened... Molly playing goalie on her soccer team, and absolutely POSING when she'd stop a ball... Maggie playing catcher on the softball team, talking of nothing else for weeks... You know what I mean??
Our challenge for the month is to journal our summer memories! Now, I know we're not all experiencing the close of summer; some of us are coming into spring and can journal our winter memories instead. And if you're not sensing a theme - it's all about what Suz and Meg want to do with their lives! Hope you're just like US - or maybe just slightly more sane!
You can use your blog, a word document, an instant album (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_137_33_99&sort=2a&filter_id=8&alpha_filter_id=0) or 2 page quick clicks (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_137_136_214&sort=2a&filter_id=8&alpha_filter_id=0) from the store, honestly whatever your fancy! It certainly doesn't need to be a product from the store, but there are some pretty cool things there that would make AWESOME layouts... Carve out a few minutes each day to choose one memory or event and jot down your thoughts. I think I'm going to do it from my perspective (first-person), as if I'm writing a letter. You can choose to write from third-person, bullet-list format, first-person, rhyming poetry-type stuff, or whatever feels most natural. You can be funny, serious, deep, whatever fits your story/ies; just get these memories down before they fade!
Link your blog, attach a word document, post a layout and link it here in this thread, and we'll really look forward to hearing about your favorite memories from the summer or winter! You have until August 31 at midnight EST! Have fun!
Here's your freebie for participating!

Wow! This is an easy one for me, because I started my blog in late spring and have been updating it over the summer. I've liked doing that, because it's like writing a letter or keeping a diary (but not too personal ;)) and hopefully I can print it out one of these days so it can be read "down the years".
The link to my blog is below. Well, actually it's a link to a website that I started, and then I created a blog and linked to it from the website. Confusing enough? Can't wait to see what others offer!

Hi Suzanne,
I am a major neubie...I just joined a circle of friends/family doing digital scrapping. I have Photoshop Elements 6 and the others were using it, but removed it from their laptops and returned to 5 ...I have been tearing my hair out trying to find a "book" to help me...last night I was up all night when I found the DSP website!! I just love your designs...they inspire me to do a lay out...and then I discoverd Kim Hills tutorial on PSE 6...WHAT ALIFE SAVER!!! I have been printing out the tutorials and I plan on going to PSE 6 "step by step" to "hopefully" use a plopper and do a layout...
I really LOVED the 12 photo double page "05_P_QuiteAFew" ploppers and want to download it...but am still so new at this I don't know if I can comply with your wishes by the deadline of Aug 31. Is there any other way I can get that freebie?
We live in Henderson, Nevada near Las Vegas. We are California transplants as my husband was transfered here with his job. I have always worked and was like a "fish out of water" not working...but in the almost 3 years living here, I have gradually signed up for Watercolor Painting classes and Colored Pencil classes. My sister and all my family is still in CA, so she had a friend, who had a friend who also lives in Henderson, and got us together and that is how I became interested in Digital Scrapping. Now we get together semi-annually to get together and share ideas!
Our summers are very busy, as you can imagine living near Vegas! We are grandparents and parents of 8 children (combined) and 8 grandkids (combined). I miss the kids and grandkids terribly, so keeping busy is important! We are like a Bed and Breakfast during the summer with all our visitors and company, but we love it and have all winter to recover.
I'd appreciate anything you could do to help me get your double pages.
Thank you,

Here is my layout about my favorite summer memories this summer:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=276432
I couldn't get the entire journalling on the layout so here is the complete memory:
"The highlight of our summer was our Beach Bash Family Reunion at San Clemente State Beach in Southern California. Family members, all descendants (and their spouses) of ours, came from several different states to spend the week camping at the beach. This was our 10th family reunion. We started having them 20 years ago and have had them every two years since that first one. The family has steadily grown until now there were close to 60 of our descendents there.
"Included in our family are the first generation (my husband and me), the second generation, (our five children and their spouses), the third generation (our 20 living grandchildren and their spouses), and our 23 great grandchildren.
"Many of them started the reunion by going to Disneyland for two days, then on to the beach to be with the rest of us. We love sharing time together playing games, eating, swimming, eating, boogie boarding, eating, participating in our traditional talent show, eating, bidding madly on auction items brought by all of the family members, eating, flying kites, telling stories, eating, doing crafts, hiking, telling ghost stories around the campfire as we roasted marshmallows, celebrating a birthday of one of our great granddaughters, and various other activities as the week progressed. Oh, did I mention eating? The food was to die for! Although we usually do a service project in whatever community we are visiting sadly this year we didn’t.
"One thing that I love about our family reunions is watching all the different age groups and family groups enjoying games and activities together! No matter how old we get we are all children at heart and love to mix it up in a fun activity whether it is a physical activity, a mental activity, or whatever!
"The highlight of the auction had to be the wild bidding that took place as the three little wooden train sets made by my husband were auctioned. One of our great grandsons (4-years old) always plays with one of great grandpa’s trains when he visits his grandparent’s home (my youngest daughter and her husband) and he wanted his own train so badly but sadly his parents finally had to stop bidding when the price got way too high for them. He sobbed when he realized he wasn’t going to be able to take it home. I happen to know that my husband is going to make one especially for him so that may assuage his sad heart!
"Someone in the family always designs T-shirts and this year it was a long-distant collaboration between several different people. Most of us have all of our T-shirts and/or hats since our first reunion and delight in wearing them often and seeing how the family has grown over the years.
"At the conclusion of our reunions we always have a meeting of all the adults to assign a committee of volunteers to plan and coordinate the next reunion and to select the location for the next reunion. During the past 20 years we have had our reunion in three different states and who knows where the next one will be! This meeting is also where we critique how thing worked out and what things we want to include next time or things we think we should change.
"All-in-all this was definitely the highlight of my summer! I have a wonderful family and almost all of them were at the reunion. One granddaughter couldn’t be there because she is serving a mission in Russia right now and we all missed her! A couple others couldn’t come because of work responsibilities. We missed them too and hopefully they will be with us next time."

Great idea! I never do this, take a look back at a period of time, unless it's at the end of the year, so this was great for me. Nothing too exciting to journal about, but it's my time with my family and friends, and that makes it special, to me.

I just wanted to pass this information along for my fellow bloggers... There is a website called blurb.com that will "slurp" your blog into a book format that you can have printed, kind of like snapfish or other book sites. I love it, and will be printing off my blog in 1-year increments, pictures and all. All you have to do is download their software and you're off and running. This might help you get your blogging into "scrapbook" format. Have fun!
