In 1983 when my DD was 5 they had a small Haunted House in the pool house at a local park. I had never been in one before but DD wanted to go so DH & I thought we would try it. I don't even know if there were clowns but halfway through I went out the back door to the pool area and demanded that the workers let me out. First they told me that I had to go through the 2nd half of the maze but I said I would climb the fence - I was not going back in there so they did let me out! DH said he was so embarrassed and DD didn't think it was scary.... Needless to say, I have NEVER gone in another Haunted House :no::no:

:D:D:D I think we should just stick to eating chocolate bars for Halloween!

I do have a funny (to me) Haunted House story. I'm not afraid of such and for years, Stephen King and his ilk were my reading genre of choice.

Our town (before it's crumbling decline) used to put on an awesome Haunted House each Halloween season. One year I was one of the *displays*, so I knew exactly what it was like.

When my older DS was probably 6-8 he begged me to go through the House. I wouldn't let him. He begged and begged and begged. Finally, the teenage daughter of the boys' daytime babysitter's offered to take him. When he came home afterward, he walked in the front door, looked at me with horror in his eyes, held up one hand (you know, in that *stop* manner) and said "DON'T ASK!".

I said, "Son, I told you." His response - "YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE ME BELIEVE YOU!!!".

How funny! Be more convincing next time! ;)

OK guys, I'm just checking in one last time tonight from the lappie. I put the computer in the shop today to see if they can figure out what it's "not responding" problem is. I'm hoping it will be like new when I get back.

We leave tomorrow after lunch to fly to Florida. Friday we will be at Universal Studios, then drive to Ft Lauderdale that night and get on the ship Saturday at noon. We will be back home Thursday evening the 18th. The flatties are all ready for the trip too! I can't wait to take a bazillion photos for scrapping! :D

I am hoping to be able to check in here a couple times when we're gone, but don't know what the internet service will be like. :(

just checking in before bed. ....
Rene- have a great time ! Relax, eat fun food, find the topless deck and just have a blast !
Crys... very funny story ! I just love your DS remarks... "make me believe you" indeed.
Chris- congraats madame senior designer ! Well deserved !
Lisa- can't imagine how scary that must have been.. but kids are so resilient ! Your heart is still pounding and he's bragging ! In a way it is just too funny ! 1 more week ! WOO HOO !!!

Yep, just 6 more wake ups and DH will be back! And then only 2 days to the big move!!!!! Looks like the piano is going all the way to Alaska. God only knows just where we will make it fit. And I just know it's going to be that much harder to find a buyer. Also, it might make it impossible for me to do the in-home day care. Not enough space in the main living room.

Crys - love your Haunted House story.

DS1's cough is finally almost gone, except when he runs or gets really riled up (so that's about every 15 minutes, instead of constant). DS2 has decided it's his turn and has a pretty raspy, croupy cough, but it's not nearly as bad. Just the garden variety allergy cough. Kind of my fault. The boys got to fighting so bad before school that I forgot to give them their morning meds. He's sleeping good now that he has the evening dose in him, and if he wakes I can give him another dose around 10:30, so he'll be OK. All I can say is, let me out of here! The pollen counts are ridiculous this year.

Chris and Rene - enjoy your vacations. I guess we will connect after I get to Alaska!

OK, new it was gonna be quiet in here, but no posts from anyone in 2 days? Well, just for that, when you do show up you have to go look at my LOs. I have to say, I cried harder at the Kindergarten Graduation than I did dropping them off the first day!

I think we have all crawled into our "reality holes" ...LOL
Congrats to the boys ! They have both done a wonderful job in kindergarten and should both be very proud of themselves !
And now as a graduation gift, they get to go on a wonderful adventure to their new home state...

Oh, just heard from Rene... they did get into Florida ok... but you won't believe this...

They didn't have the right rental car for them...

But, gave them a Lincoln - which wouldn't hold all of their luggage... but they managed..

but, when Rene sat down...her seat was soaking wet...

The guy who ran it thru the car wash left the window down...

But, since it was the only car big enough for the family, they had to take it...

That Rene... she is full of stories...

They are off to Disneyworld today....

Rene did warn us that"stuff" just happens to her !!! WAY TO FUNNY!!!!
Last year, I had to cancel my plans for Adobe due to ankle surgery... but this year the Adobe crop falls right at the beginning of my Alaska trip to see Lisa!!! So, no woes this year... much rather be in AK. Hopefully, they'll have another one NEXT year and, God willing, I might be able to attend that one.

In this economy, I think we all have money issues, don't we? I'd love to go to a crop sometime, but it will be way out in my future. My mad money is spent in the DSP store right now.... one kit at a time. My sister emailed me yesterday to see if I had gotten the DSP gift certificate she sent me for my birthday. I haven't gotten it, but I'm excited to know that it's on the way!

I haven't been around much lately. Life has been crazy busy. Today, I am giving myself a day off and heading to the pool to relax! YAY!! I need to vaccuum but I think that can wait.

Lisa, getting close now! I am happy you are about to be reunited.

LOL about Rene, poor thing.

The "Official Scrappy Chat date/time" had not been announced before Rene left...

So, I let her know - she was very grateful - so she could let Johnny know to get a limo, flowers, arrange a dinner, etc...

He's got to tell "his people" in advance.... you know...

You know Rene "lives in her fantasy world"... so, I couldn't let her be late in notifying Johnny... she was most grateful...

I can't imagine what she will do with all of that...

So is the $85 a night per room? So if you have 2 people do you split that?

yes, it means you split the cost.
Hotel rooms are a certain rate/per night based on double occupancy. I travel alone but my room rates are still the same as based on double occupancy.. meaning even though only one person is in the room, I don't pay half the nightly rate. the room rate will change if there are more than 3 people staying in the room and an extra roll out bed/cot is needed. This sometimes happens when larger families travel together.

when I took the kids to fla on a cruise several years ago, we all stayed in one room and needed a roll away, thus there was an additional charge for the extra person/bed.. but it was minimal.

Flights from Uah to CA shouldn't be too bad (as opposed from here in the east coast to CA.... )I'd suggest keeping an eye out for last minute fares... those offered within 14 days of your travel dates. I've had good luck with southwest air "ding" program as well. Just some suggestions.

Like their frequent flyer program...

Sometimes instead of just going to Southwest.com or whatever their regular website is...

set up their Frequent flyer card... (it's called ding.)..

they give you another site...

go their and check prices...

carolyn d
06-14-2009, 08:57 PM
"DING" is a service offered by Southwest Air. You set it up to locate flights leaving from your most used airport and the cities you are looking to go to.... I have mine set up to leave from Providence and cities I am looking to travel to. If a flight becomes available, you will get your "ding" notice. The flights are discounted slightly more than their "web only" fares... The tickets are non refundable e-tickets. Ususally the flight times are the odd days, so I suspect they are for flights that have not booked to capacity. I tend to search flights with flexible dates, so I find these convenient. You of course can change your destination/departure cities. I've also noticed that the flight dates are generally within 21 days. (book and fly within 21 days which also leads me to believe they are not full flights.)

carolyn d
06-14-2009, 09:04 PM
ONG ! I LOVE TO FLY ! Love the takeoffs and landings the best ! Really love flying at night when you can see the city lights below.... also ,,, I can sleep anywhere, so ...... I'm a great seat partner..Chat if you want, or total silence.. doesn't matter to me. I always have a book, word puzzles and my little pillow ! One of my favorite seat partners was a little 2 yr old who insisted on showing me her toes for the entire flight! We had a ball and her dad thought he'd really lucked out because she was willing to sit with me while he went to the bathroom.

Lisa... crazy question... what suggested footwear for Alaskan tramping about??? Sneakers , lightweight hiking boots , or something along the idea of UGGS ( super comfy and warm) With the exception of my jean, I'm already packed !

idtwinmom
06-14-2009, 09:41 PM
Sneakers would be fine for August. I don't think I even have my hiking boots any more. The worst conditions we might get into are rocky beaches if we make it down to Homer (just another hour and a half after Kenai). Most of the parks have good trails, so no heavy hiking will be required and UGGS will be too warm for that time of year. (and yes, I know what UGGS are, very popular winter footwear in the city!)

carolyn d
06-14-2009, 09:51 PM
hahaha wise guy.... I had no doubts you knew what uggs were.... I just didin't know if they would be too warm! Cool beans,,, sneakers it is ! I live in them anyway ! Actually, I just bought 2 new pairs... had to break down as the other were getting really worn on the bottoms. Can you believe I'm packed?? Am I anal or what ? LOL .

Did everyone know that debilou has a Masters Degree in Intrigue?

The cat has already been let out of the bag - PQ Fran, health willing, will be going to the San Antonio GTG in December and she and I are going to room together!!

I was just thrilled to get her PM informing me - apparently both of us are married to men who "ALLOWED" us to go - and I was just excited by the news! :D :D So, I posted in the SA GTG thread that I knew something...Debby got ahold of it and *hit the deck running*!!!    Apparently she's way better at holding secrets than she is at being held back from them!!

Hi guys. I'm back! We had sooooooooooooo much fun on the cruise! It was awesome. The only glitches we had were some airline delays leaving Lubbock last week, and lots of rain in Grand Cayman, which lead to the parasailing being cancelled. It was Emily's choice of excursion, so she was pretty disappointed. Other than that, everything was great. Swimming with dolphins was probably the best part of the trip. The Mayan Ruins were cool, although it rained on us the entire time we were there, so we were drenched, but that's better than it being sweltering outside. The cruise staff were awesome. We had the best stateroom attendant and wait staff. The food was great. I tried things I never would have thought I would try - escargot and duck! We had lots of fun during our days at sea. We went to a 70's disco street party, an 80's dance party, an illusionist show. Usually by the end of a vacation, we're tired and ready to get home, but this time, we were not ready at all and were sad to go.

I'm excited to start on some layouts from the trip. As soon as I get my computer hooked back up (it was in the shop while we were gone), I will upload some photos of the flattie's adventures! They had fun too!

Oh, it looks like there is lots to read, maybe I will get time tonight!

Just wanted to let you know that we are well on our way! After a very eventful move day (which you will here much more about in the future) we got on the road late Friday. Visited family Friday and then headed into Canada yesterday. We managed to meet up with Beryl (fellow DSP member) for lunch and visit Hell's Gate late in the afternoon. Today has little planned, just drive and stop where something is really interesting. (Really hoping to make it to the next hotel early enough though to use the pool and let the kids play.) Will try and scrap on the other end as there is not much chance on the road (this laptop battery just won't last long enough).

Hope you are all havin' fun! I am!

Rene, what's in San antonio in December? That sounds like a party!

So I went to this nursery today that my step mom told me about. This nice old guy, who is in his 80's sells all sorts of stuff and then gives all the money to his great grandson for college! How nice is that? So I bought two peach trees, four raspberry bushes and ten strawberry plants. He threw in two flowers and lettuce from his own garden (that we ate at dinner, yummy) and he only charged me $25! So I gave him 30. He was the neatest guy. I'm going to have to go back. Now I just have to find a place and plant it all.

Wow, what a great guy!! How long will it take the fruit trees to produce fruit? I know nothing about that. I love fresh peaches!

I Dec we are having a get together of DSP people who can come, and a photo walk, no scrapping. Here's the thread:

Did I tell you guys a couple months ago that I have this random intense itching on the palms of my hand and soles of my feet? It happened about 2 or 3 months ago I think and went on for a couple weeks, then went away. Now it's back. There's no rash, no redness, just insane itching. Sometimes hydrocortisone and/or Benadryl cream will help, sometimes not. I don't know what it is. No new clothes, lotion, laundry detergent. And it usually only bothers me in the evenings and at night. It's driving me nuts. Weird and extremely annoying. :(:(:(

The price range varies WIDELY - from cheap to HUNDREDS of dollars...

do you have list of your software and your hardware components

and, like a FRY's... They will show you the best Video card for you...

(if you PC is not under warranty... if still under warranty... that piece should be covered)...

But, some cost a lot of money... like if you do a lot of GAMING... so that need extra power sources and stuff like that... they can cost like $300 or so...

But, you don't want to go too cheap either depending on what photo editing software you use... because of how fast it draws images...

I'm certainly not an expert... but like I say a Fry's has them..:think:

Like Debi says, it's a wild range of prices, but make sure it can handle the software you use for scrapping. PS uses a lot of power for the video, even more than some games, so don't under power with this component.

Sounds like it might be more nerve related than skin. Have you talked to the Doc about it?

Well, final road trip update: We have reached Alaska and are in our last hotel. Tomorrow should be in our new home! YEAH! :yahoo::yahoo: We haven't had any major trouble except the boys having some car sickness and even that was much better today (and since todays roads were really wild and bumpy I would have thought it would be worse, so that is good news). I'm thinking it might have been a bit to do with the allergy meds and being too tired rather than just car sick. We only gave them one of the 3 last night and tonight as they are doing so much better. Will see how they do tomorrow. It was also really good to have my phone back, although I have been told there will be no service most of tomorrow again. Oh, well, that too shall pass.

Heather, on my Seagate, you initially set up which folders you want backed up; then mine is scheduled to back up at 11 PM each and every night. (which I chose because I usually go to bed by 10:30, except on some weekend nights; that way, it will mostly catch what I've done each evening.

I did a "Custom" backup so I could choose which folders I wanted backed up.

Crys - I will second Rene's "cutie patootie"! I'm sure your cart is just plumb full of pink kits!

Heather - most EHD's come with a piece of software that allow you to schedule backups and each is a little different so you just have to read the instructions that come with it. However, if you owned a new Mac (or one that will run the latest OS at least), there is this wonderful program called Time Machine. It does all the work and can even run while you are working without disrupting anything. I love it!!!!!

Well, we slept at the new house last night. We actually got in about 3:30PM local time. We got some things from my BIL (dishes and stuff) to help us survive until our stuff arrives and we did just a little grocery shopping! Yikes - I need to get a job and fast!!!!!! Of course, I can't really start until after school starts, need to get a routine going, but I know I'm going to have to make some money or I won't be able to play (and I want to play!!!!!!!!!)

I realized, I never did get the copies of my kits, so no scrapping except with freebies, until my other computer arrives! And I have some doozies of pics to work with too!!!!!! Will have to do some work on this computer to get it scrapping again! That will be a job for later though. I just have to go shopping today and the stack of laundry is nearly unmanagable! Oh, how that monster does grow.

I will have to look at my EHD more. I think I get my computer back on Tuesday, which wasn't the video card at all. I guess I got a virus and my motherboard got wiped out. LUCKILY, my bil built the computer and had another so it won't cost me much, but now I'm freaked out about getting more. You can now be notified Whenever a Friend of yours adds a new layout to their gallery by adding them to your BUDDY LIST.

This is different than the Friend or CONTACT list... This is new since the new changes were added to the Gallery last week.

So, if you want a buddy:

here are 2 ways I found to add a buddy: (there may be more)

The very Easiest to Add a new buddy is now from YOUR own Gallery when someone adds a comment to your OWN Gallery....

Let's say someone you want to be a buddy adds a comment to your layout...

When you go to "MY Gallery", Messages... and review your Messages...

simply click on that User name...

It will bring a list on the left side of the page:
Like Profile, Stats, Photos, Etc....

At the bottom of the list is ADD to BUDDIES... Click on this...

The second way...

Click on any user's gallery photo and open it up full size...

click on top of the user's Avatar... like in my case click on the line of Debilou.

This will bring my profile screen, again with the options on the left side...

Such as Profie, Stats, Photos, etc... at the bottom you will see Add to Buddy List...
Choose this.. and

Walla you have a Buddy.

Each time this user adds a layout anywhere in the gallery you will be notified - not by email - but by a message in your messages...

Hope this makes sense... And, go forth and make some buddies.:yahoo::yahoo:

not it was Nicole that got to go last minute, last year. The thing that was funny last year, was they had hired me as a designer, but nobody knew. So they were hinting a couple of times but nobody picked up on it.

OK, well then I will just be a little jealous! Of course, I did get to come to Alaska, so I guess I have one up on you there!

Well, DH is off to work and I'm facing my first day in the house with little for the kids to do and no Daddy to keep them busy. Weather is threatening rain so we may not be able to go play at the school or wash the car (which after the Al-Can really needs to be washed). Guess I will just have to start washing out cupboards, and the kitchen/dining floor is already sticky. Amazing how hard it is to eat with no table. At least we have camp chairs to sit in thanks to BIL!

The closest I'll be is Minneapolis - my last 52 minute lay over before getting into Anchorage. But I'll stick my arm out and wave... you guys just need super powered binoculars or telescopes to see that far !

Survived the wedding on Saturday. Took over 500 shots and most of them I'm pleased with... note that I said MOST.. I have very little post processing to do (for a change) as I spent two weeks tweaking the camera settings. Of course, there was no sun for those 2 weeks in which to actually CHECK and see if the settings would be appropriate for sunshine ! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr... But I guessed and it worked out. Now the project is putting everything together for the bride and groom to look through when they get back from the honeymoon.

I really do need to install the old PSE on this laptop again so I can try and scrap some of the trip photos. And Carolyn - one of those is that lovely toothless grin we emailed about. Wish you all could here DS#2's lisp.

Crys, your dgd is adorable! Loved that LO I saw of her w/ Bloomin'.

We had a family hiking day yesterday. It was so fun!! Hiked about 2 miles into a lake, made a fire, roasted hot dogs and marshmallows (yum s'mores!) Yes I pigged out and had about 5! :p We were supposed to fish too, but nothing was rising and dh had only brought top water stuff. I was all good cuz I was happy taking pictures (well, that and eating s'mores)

Thank you! I know every mother/grandmother thinks their child is wonderful, but Teagan really is a beautiful baby! Her dark coloring is awesome. Rutker and Ethan and so fair and Tristan's pretty fair, also!

Hey I need ya'll to cheer me on. I actually got on the treadmill yesterday and today for over 30 minutes!! wooohoo! ANd then this evening DH decided we were going to play tennis. We took DS down the street to the tennis courts for about an hour. He was learning to play and I was chasing balls. I'm worn out but it feels so gooood!

:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: A beginning is wonderful! I know you can keep it up!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

OK, I am down right jealous! Isn't that 2 years in a row? Didn't you get to go at the last minute last year? Totally not fair, and now I'm even farther away (of course, getting there from here might actually be cheaper!)

I went out shopping today and got nothing on my list! Didn't buy anything except the groceries and even then didn't get everything. Yikes it is expensive here! A bag of bagels that I always paid just under 2.50 for was almost $5. The kids may have to learn to live without bagels!

OK, I'll bite (she says almost reluctantly)!

 Wow, Debi is AWFULLY, INCREDIBLY, VERY SMART!! Do you have any supporting evidence though... not that I doubt you

Thanks for the cheering support, Crys. We went out to play tennis again last night, but I mostly just chased balls. I don't mind chasing balls necessarily, but last night it ceased to be amusing. DH is trying to teach our 12yo son to play tennis. Unfortunately he is as uncoordinated as me. DH ends up hounding DS too much about what he is doing wrong and DS ends up whining too much about DH and Dear Mom is about to whack them both in the head with a tennis racket. I'm going to sit them both down for a talking-to before I play ball boy again. :annoyed:

Lisa, I had no idea the cost of living was that much worse in Alaska. yikes!

There were lots of cameras at the reception. I've found I do so much better with faces ! I am not overly enthusiastic with shots at the reception of the tent etc..... kind of how I feel about my landscape shots ! Something is just not "there:>... but with faces..much better...I think it's because with a face, it's simple.. just one thing so the composition is relatively simple.

Yeah, the "once in a lifetime" thing is stressful... but they know that I'm not experienced with this and what I DID get are probably better than the average snapshot shooter. But that still doesn't mean that they cannot be improved as I learn how to "see".

I think you are almost too modest Carolyn! I've watched your gallery and the shots you get are often incredible. I'm so looking forward to getting my hands of the shots you do of my kids while you are here. As a matter of fact, I have to find the perfect place for one set we are going to do with my Little Miss! They were shots that were supposed to be done for her birthday (well, a little late because the flowers don't quite bloom in March) but with all the trouble with the job loss and then move, it just never happened. to my knowledge, nothing short of whips, chains, bribery and the threat the irritated wife making his life miserable for a week............or just holding a gun to his head... and then the "co-operatin" only lasts for 15 minutes, tops.

either that or tell him you've hired an out of town photog to come to the house. Said photog has agreed to do the shoot gratis as a means of adding to portfolio and as such is doing this gratis. If he squirms.. then there will be a sitting fee. Hitting them in the wallet is ususally more painful than anythng else.

LOL CaroD, you are hilarious! Let's try that and see if it works, when are you coming? :)

OK so I just have to tell you guys that people who steal just SUCK!!! and yes there is a story behind this statement.

So today, dd1 rides over to the library on her scooter (the razor kind, not the motorized) anyway when she comes out of the library, somebody has stolen it! She calls me cuz she is all upset and she needed to get to swim practice. So I go and get her and drop her off on the way home. Fast forward to after swim practice, she calls me again. Someone has stolen her iPod out of her locker!!!! Can you even freaking believe that?!

I have warned and warned and warned her about that, but she didn't think it would happen. Unfortunately she learned the hard way. The thing I really feel bad about is she worked really hard to earn the iPod and she loved it/used it all the time and now some sucky THIEF went thru her gym bag to find it.

I am hoping/praying she gets it back. Apparently, she wasn't the only one. 6-7 other people had stuff stolen. One women even had her CAR stolen cuz they found her keys then went out in the parking lot to see which car beeped etc. I am hoping that if the police are involved w/ the car theft, maybe if they recover the car, maybe they will get the iPod back too. Who knows, but yep I say again that THIEVES SUCK!

OK, let's look at the positives here:

1. She will no longer be *plugged in* at dinner time; adding to the family conversation;

2. There will now exist the possibility that she'll pay more attention to what Mom says;

3. She's learned a valuable lesson.

Having said that, THIEVES STILL SUCK! Nothing makes my blood boil more!!! How did our society (the world!) ever get to the point that so many people do NOT believe in working for the things they want?

It's hard to believe that two items could be stolen in such a short time. I hope they catch this thief and punish him well.
Recently DH was at the local food bank volunteering when he was told by the director there would be another person helping who had to do community service. She said he told her he had to do community service because it was only for DUI. That made my blood boil as we knew a family who had lost their son in an accident caused by another driver who was DUI.

Thank you ! I just know the areas where I am weaker.........As for Little Miss.....and the Little Misters... that's just right up my alley.... You may have more shots of all the kidlets than you will know what to do with by the time I leave. I tend to be MORE than prolific with kids/ humans in general. Actually, it was in my brain to try a family photo... I ' ve never done one before and thought I'd practice with you guys ! (if you don't mind, that is..)

Great! We can do our Christmas photo's a little early this year!

to my knowledge, nothing short of whips, chains, bribery and the threat the irritated wife making his life miserable for a week............or just holding a gun to his head... and then the "co-operatin" only lasts for 15 minutes, tops.

either that or tell him you've hired an out of town photog to come to the house. Said photog has agreed to do the shoot gratis as a means of adding to portfolio and as such is doing this gratis. If he squirms.. then there will be a sitting fee. Hitting them in the wallet is ususally more painful than anythng else.

I can't think of a thing that works better than making it hurt the wallet, unless you make it hurt the clock! The more he squirms the longer it takes, the more it costs sort of thing. Of course, I'm lucky, my DH actually likes getting the family portraits so cooperates quite nicely!

BTW - I think I've figured out another fun thing to do while you are here! It will include some rather unique animals and a stop for a super unique bowl of ice cream! You do like ice cream don't you?

Oh man - I do feel for her big time! And yes, thieves are some of the worst kind of people. Just before DH came to Alaska we had a big Garage Sale. We had all this furniture we were trying to unload so we had been taking turns bringing people in the house to look at it. One guy that I was showing the stuff to asked to use the bathroom. Of course I really wanted to say no, but what do you do, the guy is already in the house. I have a feeling he was really looking for pills and stuff, but since that was all locked away he stole the kids night light instead. I could not believe any one would be so low, but that was what he took!
