Oh best wishes on his surgery! We will miss u for the chats but at least he will be getting his hernia taken care of. I know my dh was pretty miserable with his. Plus don't forget lots going on all week so u should be able to play at least a little bit. :D

Oh, please tell me you mean he was miserable with the hernia, not the surgery! We need him back to work ASAP because "no work, no pay" and the pot is pretty empty already. If he has to take too much time off, I may be forced to take in too many kids to fit in this little place just to pay the rent (planning on doing before/after school care for kids from the elementary school next door).

Yes it was miserable before the surgery. He was doing better within a couple of days. (Seems like he went fishing within 4 days or so  )

Yeah! Everything DH read said he should be back on his feet pretty quick, but then the Dr said most people take 5 to 10 days from work. I think guys must milk the situation for all they can get. Let's face it, they don't usually get the long sick leaves for maternity and what have you, so they take what the can get!

Hey! I have a question for you guys. When you told me about the CS4 script "Load in Stack", I thought this was supposed to pull the files in as layers like the AV bros script does, but instead I keep getting them all as one layer. What am I doing wrong?
Christine
07-24-2009, 01:56 PM
it should bring all of your files into one document, everything on its own layer.
File>Scripts>Load Files Into Stack, then when you get the dialog popped up, you choose browse and ctrl+click all of the files you want in your document. (or whatever you do with a mac LOL) then you have to wait for them to show up in the box takes a few seconds, then hit ok
idtwinmom
07-24-2009, 02:33 PM
Interesting, because when I do that it puts them all on one layer! Will have to spend some time in preferences to see if I have something checked (or unchecked). There is also a thing at the bottom of the browse box about Smart Objects. Do you check that or leave it alone. I know smart objects can be very nice to have, but still have not gotten used to using them.
Christine
07-24-2009, 03:09 PM
not checked, u can tell if it is making them be a smart object by looking at the thumbnail, if it has a notch out of the bottom right corner, it is a smart object

I'm crying! (Do you here the song - I'm cryyyyyiinnng! All over you!)
DH has managed to push through the bureaucracy and his hernia surgery is scheduled. Can you guess for when? I'll give you a hint! I'm going to be at the hospital for the majority of Christmas in July! That is, I will be if my BIL/SIL can stay with the kids. Otherwise, I will get to chat while waiting for the phone to ring and worrying that he chose the wrong anesthesia (he does terrible with the stuff and doesn't like to wake up).
Oh well, guess there are worse things to miss. Only 2 more weeks until Carolyn D arrives! Yeah! And he should be back on his feet and even better than "normal", meaning I will still get to play! Yeah!
OH GOOD GRIEF!!!! Poor, poor man! Surgery is NOT fun for anyone. I hope he's feeling up to company! So, we will not only be lugging boxes, but perhaps lugging Chris !!?? LOL! I now really promise to behave myself in honor of his delicate condition.

Hopefully, we can plan something while I'm up there, too !

Well, since you don't arrive for 2 weeks, he will be very much on the mend by then. That is one reason he is rushing to get it done! We both want to be able to enjoy your visit! (I think he's almost as excited as I am!)

Yes, Carolyn I've been meaning to message you to say how excited I am to get to finally meet you. I will be at the Adobe crop and not back in town until Monday the 10th so we are thinking of like the 11th or 12th for a get together. When do you leave again?
Hey Lisa, if you need help with the kiddos next week while Chris is recovering just give me a jingle and I can watch them for a bit possibly. We have a couple coming tonight that might adopt both our foster dogs! So pray they get adopted....they need a good home! Will Chris have to stay in the hospital at all or is it outpatient? Which hospital? Dan and I would love to come up and see him if he'll be up for visitors.
Okay, well call me if you need anything!

OH THAT'S RIGHT!! I forgot Adobe was the first weekend I'd be in AK... I'm gonna wave to you all... from a great height and distance !:rofl::rofl:
I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOOKING FORWARD to this trip ! The scenic vistas of the Conway household and Alaska ! I've been packed for a month...not too excited am I?:think:
And meeting you too- finally ! I'm so excited ! I'm twitching all over ! I'll be easy to recognize...short, thin , multi colored hair (went wild last haircut) with a backpack bigger than I am ! (and that's just the camera crap)
My return flight is 11:45 PM on the 16th. Which is great because I will have that WHOLE last day to be out an about ! Luckily, I can sleep anywhere, through anything...so the overnight flight is perfect for me. I leave here (RI) at 1:45 pm on the 6th and will arrive in AK at 9:30 pm. Odd times, but it was the least expensive flight i could get. I like to travel as inexpensively as possible so I have more $$$ for the things I want to do/see.

well if you load something with papers it should be 12x12, unless you have like a 17 inch ribbon or something
Basically once everything is stacked in a document you can alter the canvas size NOT the image size (ctrl+alt+c) is the one you want. Make sure you only alter the canvas. This will make it so none of your elements get resized. Doesn't matter if you want 12x12 or letter size or something else. Your elements will just hang off if they are too big, they will not be chopped or resized.

Okay, well call me if you need anything!
I will call if anything happens, but it should only be for tomorrow (Saturday). Of course, if he ends up needing a drive to the Dr for a follow up, that could throw a ringer in there and I would need some help for that. Yes it is day surgery, so probably won't need visitors. We'll see about later in the week, but that would be here at the house. Boy, I dislike stairs!

As a matter of fact, it does take SD cards. I have 3, but one is super slow. It's one of those micros that you put in an adaptor to fit in the camera. Don't like using that unless I absolutely have to.
What does your camera use now?

It's supposed to start at 12:30 PM our time, tomorrow (Saturday) but the Dr warned it could be late starting. It should only take an hour. Turns out BIL/SIL are very nervous about watching all 3 kids. So, BIL will drive Chris to the hospital and then I will call when the surgery is do to be over. That puts me there about 1/2 hour after he is out and then we just have to wait for him to finish waking up. Although I think they both under estimate how long it will take before they actually release him to come home.
And do not, under any circumstance, treat him like royalty! The stats show that this is a reasonably easy surgery to get over and as long as he is not lifting (and I will be very strict about him not lifting!), he can be up and doing very quickly.

Well, I did try to change the canvas size. Will play with it some more, but so far am liking AV bros. more. A lot less fiddling to get the files in there correctly. The only advantage I can see is that you can actually make the files into smart objects right up front. So, tell my why you like it better!

I'm so excited.. I keep looking in my suitcase and pawing through it. Not that anything else is going in it! Just like fiddling. I've already checked with TSA at the airport regarding my tripod. folded up, it resembles a sawed of shotgun on xray. I can just imagine how many times that suitcase will be opened before I get to you.... My entire purpose in checking with TSA was to see if it could be inspected, a tag put on stating an inspection had already been done and then locked. I kind of shudder at the thought of it being opened multiple times, and someone stealing the thing.

I like it better cuz you don't have to open everything up in PS first then stack them w/ AV Bros. You can just do it straight from the folders.

I think my good card is a 2 MB, not very big, but really don't need much. I download frequently. I wouldn't mind giving the micro back to Chris as it can be used for other types of memory storage besides just a camera. And I seem to have lost one shortly before the move. Don't know where or how. Oh well.
Check that you have slippers if your feet might get cold. Not allowed to wear shoes in this house (per the landlady!) I wouldn't want to anyway with how light colored these carpets are. I already need to shampoo just because of the movers and the dogs! The kids socks are really dirty at the end of the day.

Speaking of which, I need to find a LO to use that one of yours that I bought just before leaving. Unfortunately, when they canceled the ferry on me, my "planned" LO got canceled too. You can't get water pictures when you are hundreds of miles inland!

Okay Lisa how did you manage to do a post quoting three different other posts? That was pretty multi-talented. If you need help with the kids tomorrow at all just give me a buzz on my cell phone. We are going to the dog jog in the morning and a church picnic in the afternoon for Pioneer's Day (we are having to celebrate it a day late here Christine) so there will be ample opportunity for them to interact with other kids and dogs too! Hope Chris does okay tomorrow, we'll be praying for him.
Carolyn, I take it that you are staying at Lisa's when you are visiting here? If not and you need a place to stay just let me know and you can crash at our place since we won't be here. Also, I can give Lisa my Alaska Savers coupon book that you guys can use while your here. It has tons of stuff in it and I need to try and get them all used by October anyways so you are more than welcomed to it if you'd like. Looks like I'll just miss you as we are leaving on the morning of the 6th for San Jose, but at like 1:30 in the morning and we arrive in San Francisco at like 7:30. At least you'll be here when I get back though. I'll check in with Lisa when I get home from Adobe.

I truly felt, in my heart, that after having such a big move with three young children, and needing to acclimate them to their new surroundings, get the new routine going and getting their home in order ( to name a few) that having a "new toy" pop in would be far too disruptive! Law and order would cease to exist.. I know what I'm like with kids..Then too, they will be starting school not long after I leave so their routines really need to be well established. And I felt that my constant presence could put a strain on the kids. I am planning on shipping Lisa and Chris out for an "adult evening" while I watch the little muffins. Maybe you guys could "double date' LOL .
You should have a blast at the Crop ! Everyone raved about it last year. I had plans to go, but ankle surgery became a priority for me. And this year, AK is the dream.. so maybe I'll actually make it if they have another one. We can always hope.

Well, all went well and he is resting in bed. He needs to get his tummy to accept some food and water though or he can't take his pain meds. I'm happily sipping some wine that SIL brought over at dinner time. I fed her, then she stayed with the kiddos while I got DH from the hospital. It was a bit stressful though as he was scheduled for 12:30, they called him in early, then he sat around until after 3 before taking him into surgery. At one point they told me it could be as late as 4 before they would get him in. I missed way more of CIJ with the mess they made (which was my one point of sanity for the day). So, all in all, it was OK.

I'm off to a harbour booze cruise in Newport Bay today. My GF's BF is in a classic rock band and they are the on- board entertainment. WOOO HOOO! We are techncally "the groupies"...:party::party::party: It's from 12-4... my son's GF Rachael is coming with me.. Buddy couldn't get the time off (crap). Sorry I missed your brief visit. Between nursing and baths, I'm managing to scrap and not spending lots of time here today. But I only have one more LO for Featured Designer. Of course, then I will have to spend the whole week commenting on the LOs! I remember last year spending more time on that than on making the LOs themselves! But what inspiration. That can be a good gallery to go galavanting through.

I know what you mean Heather! Just being gone 3 days to Austin, I had gotten so far behind on the forums and missed 1/2 the chats because I went to bed when I got home instead of chatting. Plus I had over 100 emails, mostly junk. When that happens, I just delete stuff like the million jokes, political commentary, etc that people mass email. I have some catching up to do too. Seems I've been off the grid for a while, but it was only a few days. My sisters were in town and no time to be on the computer. WE had a lot of fun but I am so tired now. I've been catching up on work after several taking days off. I always enjoy my days off, but when you work alone it kinda kicks you in the butt playing catch up. And since I was working on a Sunday afternoon, I totally forgot about the Sunday chat! Sorry I missed it, but hopefully I'll be back next week. I missed most of CIJ festivities too... except for the sales :santa1:

Chris, I think I have your carpal tunnel syndrome! I had problems with my right wrist in 2001 when I was working full time and wore a brace while I worked and that helped after a bit. Now it's bothering me again, but this time instead of just wrist pain, I have a sorta tingly numbness thing in my fingertips. So I put my brace on, but am having a hard time trying to scrap and type with it on. Gary said maybe I should quit scrapping and chatting so much. So I said, "Yeah, and you should quit playing golf since you have elbow problems." He said "OK forget I said that.":rofl::rofl: I win.

Carolyn, if you want to save some money you can stay at my house since I am looking for a house sitter anyways. I need someone to look after the cat anyways and I don't live far from Lisa at all. Taking care of Pixel is super easy...put food out and she'll eventually show up when she gets hungry enough and then probably go and hide again. She is yery shy around strangers. Anyway, PM me and let me know if you're interested. That way you don't have to worry about checking in and out, etc.

And the kids going back to school happens soon enough. Registration is next week, and for most of the kids, school starts the 19th. Kinder and first don't start until the 26th according to the school's calendar. Guess I will get the scoop on that next Tuesday when we go register.
And of course, with school starting, so does my job. I'm going to try before and after school care. We'll see how that goes as it will give me the school day free (except for DD of course.)
Well, off to watch a movie with DH. He goes back to work tomorrow - Yeah! Maybe I will actually get some housework (oops, sorry about the bad word) done!

ok, Wedding Etiquette says...
Your mom should be listed first, followed by your dad and step mother:
Mrs. Gregory Jones
and
Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Rogers
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of

Oh, and if the Groom's parent's are contributing Significantly to the cost of the wedding they should be included in the invitation too...
gosh get all that in there..

From what I am seeing on ourwedding.com under etiquette (I just Google "wedding etiquette" and went to the first site listed) there is no 'and' at all. It should read
Mr. and Mrs ...
Mrs ...
I see you have your mother's name first. Unless she is paying the tab, she should be listed second as the father of the bride would be listed first in nearly every case.

I know it may be a difficult decision and you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. DH and I were just talking about this the other day since we are a blended family. She wanted me to take the "and" out after her name, but I wasn't sure if I should. I haven't even showed my dad yet, so not sure what he will say. Gotta love the family drama!!! Anyway.. I wasn't sure what to do so, I'm sure someone will be upset.  Oh and Ido have his parents, his dad is still living and his mom and stepdad are deceased, so do I put them second? The Grooms parents only go on the invitation if they are helping to pay.
Given the $ spent by your Mom is greater, then yes, she does go first. Since you are including your Dad and StepMom, I doubt they will be too upset to be second (Dad's usually aren't as sensitive about the etiquette any way).
Good luck! The drama for my wedding was first: "You aren't having a wedding? You have to have a wedding!!!!!" (DH's family only as none of mine could come anyway, kind of why I didn't really want one in the first place). And then from his Mom - "you can't just include Irish Traditions, your 1/2 English too you know!" What a farce! Should have stayed with the "No Wedding"!

Just gonna throw my 2 cents into the wedding invitation mix here: TECHNICALLY speaking ( and not knowing specific family details) the wedding invitation could also read just the PARENTS names. The step mother has no biological tie to the bride. Adding her name would be a courtesy only ( as the father's current wife) I've seen wedding invitations similar to this:
Mrs. Jane Doe
and Mr John Doe
request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter... etc etc.
I would think it would need discussion amongst the ranks as to how you do it. So many people, nowadays, are way too ready to find fault and slight in any given situation.
good luck with this one !

Oh, and I wanted to tell you that the brace is definitely helping my wrist! Well, let me clarify that. It's been helping since I've been wearing the right-handed brace on my RIGHT hand. The first couple of days I wore it, my wrist felt worse, and Gary and I were sitting outside talking one evening and I told him my wrist was getting worse. He looked at my brace and said "Rene you are wearing the left-handed brace on your right wrist." So it was allowing my wrist to still bend! No wonder! It's not easy being me!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

As for Diagramming sentences, that's not hard and therefore most of us "liked" doing them. Memorizing all those dang rules is another matter. Math - I liked it right up to Geometry. Can you guess why? ....... Yep, all the memorization! Hate it, can't do it, make a really lousy Thespian. Bookkeeping - is apparently in my blood, but I can't say I'm "fond" of it! That was 4 ideas you just SHOT DOWN! Hmmmmm.....I don't know if I have it in me to think of any more ideas today. I'm busy trying to scrap a page to annoy Michelle and Heather.:rofl:
:lol::lol: you go right ahead and annoy me all you want. I'm not so much annoyed as... in awe of your scrapping geniusness :D
Well, I say
Items 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 are really not tasks... they are just things we always do...
so, they go away - poof..
Your Dh, can take you out to dinner... so 10 goes away ... poof...
ok... now
put think of a Debi avatar name... front and center...
ok.. done.:yippee::party::drumroll:
Woohoo! Debi, you really know how to prioritize!!! Do you always work through your task lists that easily?

Well, with these name...
#1 is only half correct
# 2 - I would have to change often
# 3 with the added (michelle's Fabulous Idea) added - won't fit
and, # 4 - I know I can't use the last one... because we know THAT's not TRUE....
And, I get in BAD trouble with Crys...
So, can you come up with some other ones... please:help::help::help:
If #3 is too long, you could just say something simple like... "Michelle is Fabulous!"
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: ok... maybe not

Oh my gosh, I go to town for 2 hours and look what I come back to!! You are partying without me!!!! Rene, you keep on bugging me, at least you are getting something done. I AM NOT! I have to keep making dumb little changes on this invite, which won't have the parents names on it, by the way. :) :) So I have 1 really dumb question, it is probably SO easy to do, but I've never done it. SO.... how do I resize a photo to a certain size in CS4???
Oh, I just saw this and it works in PSE too!
Open both your working document and your photo.
In your working document select the marquee tool and draw the space where the photo will go.
Now, open your info palette (go to Window > Info)
Make a note of the size of the area marked.
Now, go to your photo. Select the crop tool.
In the Options bar, type in your measurements and the resolution of your working document (don't forget the resolution or it still will not be the right size)
Now Crop. Drag and Drop! Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) > D to Deslect your area and move photo into place!
Voila! It's like magic!

saw this in the granny thread and just had to share it here for you Texans...from an East Coaster !!!!(OMG... I COULD SOOOOOOOOO BE POOR FRANK! )
Texas Chili Cook Off
INEXPERIENCED CHILI JUDGE
Notes From An Inexperienced Chili Tester Named FRANK, who was visiting Texas from the East Coast: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a Judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last Moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking Directions to the beer wagon, when the call came.
I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili Wouldn't be all that spicy, and besides, they told me I could have free Beer during the tasting. So I accepted."
Here are the scorecards from the event:
__________________________________________________ _______
CHILI # 1 MIKE'S MANIAC MOBSTER MONSTER CHILI
JUDGE ONE: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick.
JUDGE TWO: Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
FRANK: Holy ----, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried Paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.
__________________________________________________ _______
CHILI # 2 ARTHUR'S AFTERBURNER CHILI
JUDGE ONE: Smokey, with a hint of pork. Slight Jalapeno tang.
JUDGE TWO: Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken Seriously.
FRANK: Keep this out of the reach of children I'm not sure what I am Supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to Give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they Saw the look on my face.
__________________________________________________ ________
CHILI # 3 FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI
JUDGE ONE: Excellent firehouse chili! Great kick. Needs more beans.
JUDGE TWO: A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of peppers.
FRANK: Call the EPA, I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I Have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now get me more Beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back; now my backbone is In the front part of my chest. I'm getting -----faced from all the beer.
__________________________________________________ __________
CHILI # 4 BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC
JUDGE ONE: Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
JUDGE TWO: Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or Other mild foods, not much of a chili.
FRANK: I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to Taste it, is it possible to burnout taste buds? Sally, the barmaid, was Standing behind me with fresh refills; that 300 lb. Bitch is starting to Look HOT, just like this nuclear waste I'm eating. Is chili an Aphrodisiac?
__________________________________________________ _____
CHILI # 5 LINDA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
JUDGE ONE: Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding Considerable kick. Very Impressive.
JUDGE TWO: Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit The cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
FRANK: My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can No longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed Paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili Had given me brain damage, Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring Beer directly on it from a pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off?
It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming.
Screw those rednecks!
__________________________________________________ ______
CHILI # 6 VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY
JUDGE ONE: Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spice And peppers.
JUDGE TWO: The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic.
Superb.
FRANK: My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, Sulfuric flames. I ---- myself when I farted and I'm worried it will eat Through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Slut Sally. She must be kinkier than I thought. Can't feel my lips Anymore. I need to wipe my ass with a snow cone!
__________________________________________________ _
CHILI # 7 SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
JUDGE ONE: A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
JUDGE TWO: Ho Hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of Chili peppers at the last moment. I should take note that I am worried About Judge Number 3, He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is Cursing uncontrollably.
FRANK: You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't Feel a damn thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like It is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava-like ---- to match my damn shirt. At least during the autopsy they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing; it's too painful. Screw it. I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.
__________________________________________________ __
CHILI # 8 LESTER'S LAST OF THE RED-HOT LOVER'S CHILI
JUDGE ONE: A perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili, safe for all, not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
JUDGE TWO: This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge Number 3 passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor Yank, wonder how he'd have reacted to a really hot chili?

"participials" any one? (and Rene - I hope it's on purpose, 'cause you did it twice!
It just seems to be one of those things I can do in my sleep.

Well, you'll both be happy to know I'm not getting much done today because this thread has kept me busy all day. Plus I am having a hard time concentrating on a layout because the roofers are making so much noise. I think I'll do another Quick Click. I have become the Queen of the Quick Click while working on this album. The just work so fabulously when you want to do lots of pages. And Chris makes really cool ones!
pick mine, pick mine! I have lots of cute QC's :D

SO.... how do I resize a photo to a certain size in CS4???
oh me again, I know I know. You can either do it before you bring it onto the invite or my personal favorite way. Make a template the size you want it, then use a clipping mask to crop the photo to the template and then just resize the photo until it fits within the template the way you want it to!

haha, Neaker! I got a pharse coined in Mars' Trivia game when I snuck in and nabbed a point... "you've been Stitched". I thought it was funny. Maybe I can use that if I ever make it to 5000 posts.
Sounds like there's a story behind "Great Helper of Looking Through Hotel Rooms for Missing Items"... do tell!
Rene, please tell me there's nothing wrong with using QC's. I LOVE using QC's. I have several new ones thanks to my daily purchases this week. I don't know what's in that Grab Bag, but I've GOT to have it!!!
oh I do I do, and let me tell you it is chock full of good stuff :)

Well, since you can't claim 'Scrapper from the Biggest State in the Union' you have to try something! Of course, I think there are many that would agree that it's certainly not the "Best"!
How about the State with the biggest Ego!

oh my goodness I reached the end! That was like a journey in and of itself.
Well keep your fingers and toes crossed, HP said they would fix my lappie for free. I think cuz it is a recall issue. The only problem is they said it would take NINE days. Now let's all count here, who thinks I will get it back before next Friday! uggggggg So now I am debating whether to get a new one and give the old one to my kids since their computer is approximately as old as DIRT and the wireless adapter on it died. That way I would have one for during the crop. Uggggg what to do, what to do. I hate getting too worked up on stuff like this until I have it back fixed, in my hands etc. I don't want them saying, oh we won't fix it cuz of the atmospheric conditions over Mars or some other such nonsense.
OK now where did everyone go?

well, you earn income with it... and since it is a work necessity, then spring for the new one. Should always have good tools to produce good product..and to be able to avail yourself of the better technology, graphics etc....( just trying to help you with justifying the expense, ya know. )

I haven't used it a whole lot yet. I took a few pics the other evening and they turned out pretty good. It was raining the other evening, so I thought I would try the F2.8 lens and see how it did in the low light and zoomed. The photos are still a bit grainy, but nothing like they were with the P&S. When we go to Florida on th 24th, I'll really get a chance to try it out and see how it does. We will be going to Sea World and plan on being at the nighttime Shamu show, so that will be an excellent opportunity to see how I will do with it in that lighting situation.

by any chance do you have AUTO ISO enabled?? If you do, then the camera will adjust the ISO . If you shut it off, then YOU control the ISO.
If enabled, and in low light, the camera will automatically bump your iso into the higher numbers. Typically, anything above 800 ( depending upon the camera make/model) has a tendency to become "grainy".

Yes, it is auto ISO right now. I wanted to get used to the camera before worrying about ISO's. If I decrease the ISO to below 800 will there still be enough light in the evening and say, at the nighttime Shamu show?

This is at ISO 400, f/5, 1/2 sec. at 100 mm .
I am using a 36 mm extension tube and the same lens you have.. the 50-135 f/2.8. No flash just very diffused light from a window about 8 feet from the subject.
If I had the camera set to AUTO ISO, it would have been well over 1600. I just went back into the room to check. But using MY selection for ISO, the shutter time was much longer (1/2 sec) which introduces less grain over the longer exposure time.

I looked back at a couple of my photos from the other day. The one that is the most grainy is ISO 800, the other ones are at 125 and they are OK, not perfect due to the fact that they are really zoomed, but much better than the 800. All of them are f/5.6.

i can't answer that question because neither of us know how much actual light you will have at the show ! ISO is how you tell the camera how sensitive to light you want the sensor to be. When you used to buy film for your camera, you had the same choices of 100,200,400,800 speed film. The higher the number , the more sensitive to ligh the film was. ISO is the digital version of film speed!
If the area is very dark and the stage well lit, then the camera will set the ISO high . Or it may fire the flash. On board flashes are only good up to about 15 feet, so won't do much good lighting the stage area.
My suggeston is to roam up towards the stage area and take your shots... or take them from your seat and just grin and bear the grain.
My number 1 rule: get the shot you want however you can get it ! I would rather deal with some grain than to miss the memory or the MOMENT !

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... zooming should have no effect on the graininess. But at iso 125, it COULD be a bit of camera shake... what was the shutter speed at the iso 125 shots? If your shutter speed was below 1/200 sec, then it might just be some camera blur.
A rule of thumb for handheld shots is to not let your shutter speed fall below the inverse of the longest focal length of the lens...
EXAMPLE: 50-135 lens---shutter speed not slower than 1/135 ( or the closest to that your camera has)
18-55 lens--- shutter speed not slower than 1/55 ( which would be 1/60 sec for your camera. )

They are 1/125. You know what, on one of them, I realized what I was perceiving as graininess is actually rain.

yes.. I wasn't doubting you at all.. it's just I've never seen an iso 125... but perhaps that's because I'M NOT A PRO :think:or because I never use auto iso...:love2::love2: Who knows, my cameras probably have had the capacity, but I've never known!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:no:
