Chris -- it is hard to get back into the swing of things after being on vacation.
Lisa -- sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon.
It was a very warm day today. We usually get our Indian summer in Sept and Oct.
My gas and electric company sent out a notice that they were doing some upgrades in my area and that they needed to shut off our power. I forgot they were going to shut my power off. They shut the power off at 8:30. With the power out I can't open my electric garage door so I was hoping they would get the power back on before I had to pick up my son from school so I could get my car out. Fortunately the power came back on at 1:00. I still need to reset all of the clock though.

Dorene, don't you have a release thing on your garage door opener? I have never seen one that didn't. You ought to check just in case this happens again. It is usually a rope w/ a handle hanging from the trolley that lifts and lowers the garage door. You just pull it down, and it will release off of the trolley, if yours is like all of the ones I have seen.
Lisa- Get better soon, hugs!
I managed to get my next challenge up, aren't you all proud of me? :D I have been running around like a chicken w/ my head cut off all day.
OH! and I didn't tell you my scary story. Yesterday after I got off the airplane, I went into the bathroom and hung my camera bag and laptop bag on the hook thing. I checked that they were on securely etc, as I am way a nervous nellie when it comes to my electronics. When I was about to leave the stall, before I even touched them, BOTH bags somehow came off the hook and came crashing down, hitting the floor! I seriously wasn't sure if I was going to cry or hyperventilate or throw up. I was stunned for several minutes. I finally got brave and opened both up and so far I don't see any damage. Both are working, I need to take some pictures to make sure my focus is still good, so hold thumbs or cross your fingers, or say a little prayer for me. I am still holding my breath that both will be ok. Been a bad summer for electronics around here.

Oh, Chris! How I feel for you! I would have cried. Glad to here that they at least appear to be OK. I don't know what is in the air, but we had a rash of electronic failures this year too! Nothing so scary as that though!
Dorene, I agree with Chris. There should be a release and if I were you I would make sure I not only knew where, but how it works. Practice because sometimes they can be tricky.
Now headed off to see what the new challenge is!

Oh, My, I love the new Autumn Kit! I just really like fall colors and this is gorgeous.
About your electronics---I would still be having panic attacks. Hope everything checks out OK.
The garage door can be very heavy and hard to pull especially if it a double size. I can't release ours. Of course I am not very big built but oh am I mighty. HeHeHe
YEA! I was able to figure out how to do my thumbnail now have to figure out to link the title. Thanks for all the help. I might not be getting better at scrapping but look at all the technology I am picking up.

Wardlw - I'm guessing you mean make you title a link to the LO so here goes. (This is the easiest for a newcomer, once you get more comfortable there is a way you can type the whole thing.)
1. Open you LO so that it is full screen.
2. Copy the web address (highlight and ctrl-c)
3. Go to the forum thread you wish to add the link to.
4. Click 'Post Reply'
5. Type your title and highlight it.
6. Click the picture of the Earth with the little chain.
7. Paste the web address into the little window that pops up (ctrl-v)
8. Click 'OK'
Seems like a lot of steps, but I broke it way down. PM me if you have questions (just point your mouse to my username in the box at left and select Send Private Message.)

Is it just me? Am I a dork and don't know how to checkout at the store? Everytime I go and use Paypal (using my bank acct.) it shoots me right back to the checkout page and I have nothing purchased, I have to do it a few times. Should it show that I have made the purchase or what? I know it takes a few minutes to be able to download, but I am confused why it doesn't go through when I hit pay on paypal. Anybody have any idea?

Gosh Chris, I'm keeping you in business. I think I am losing my mind, I have double bought 2 kits this month! Has anyone else done that? Just say yes to make me feel better!
idtwinmom
09-25-2008, 06:33 PM
I did buy a kit twice, but it was because I got it on IOTW and on a CD. Now, I do look more carefully at the CD's then decide. Of course, I still didn't pay full price for that kit. LOL!

When you are logged into your account, if you'll look on the page, to the right, toward the bottom is a list of your previous purchases. This will help keep you from buying double! Of course, this presupposes that you'll actually remember to look at that list! :D :D

Hey, Chris! I ordered the EHD from Staples yesterday afternoon and got it about an hour ago this morning! And there were no shipping charges! How cool is that? :D
That is awesome Crys!!!! Talk about fast! For anyone who is in need of a new EHD, Staples is having a great sale.
You can get either a Maxtor 320GB desktop type EHD or a SimpleTech portable 160GB EHD (about the size of a PDA) for $70 each!!!! I was so excited! I got the portable one to go in my laptop bag, it doesn't even require an electric plug in, it just gets its juice from the laptop! :yahoo:
idtwinmom
09-26-2008, 09:33 PM
A word of caution, Chris, that portable will suck your laptop battery in record time. Make sure you are on plug in power if you really want to use it! But that's an awesome deal! Let us know if it works well.
Christine
09-26-2008, 10:23 PM
I thought that might be the case Lisa, but I have a power inverter that I usually use in the car which only has one plug, so this way I can have the lappie plugged in and the ehd. I will probably put my kits etc on it that will free up about 40 GB of space. Can you even believe that I have that much stuff?!!! It just seems like it always works out if I am trying to scrap somewhere else and I don't have my entire collection, it is whatever I don't have that I NEED!!!!

Just sit and get yourself together with a little prayer. This is awlful news but we have to remember that God has placed us where we are and he will help us overcome our anxieties and fears. We only need to ask for his help. Pray until you feel calm, (that is his prescense you feel) and he will help you through this ordeal. I will be praying with you and thanking God for blessing you and keeping your family safe. If you need anything just pm me.

Well, guys, I'm here to cry again and this one I know you will understand. I turned the laptop on this morning and nothing! Yep, got as far as the blue Windows logo screen and just stopped. Hard drive is toast! Thank goodness I don't keep anything on that hard drive that isn't also on this desktop or the flash drive! Anybody got an old lappie they can sell for $50 bucks? All it has to run is Firefox and PSE 2.0 (doesn't even have to run the newer PSE! LOL!)
Any way, I may not be around as much until I can figure a way to replace it. This thing is in the bedroom and I can't use it while the kids are awake.

All my bookmarks, kits that I have on it that are in use (also on the other computer as well as backed up on DVD), everything.
BTW, that W98 laptop - find an electronics recycle. I doubt you could ever sell it, even for $50. Now if I could just convince DH the same about all the old desktops we have in the garage...........

We are getting some rain tonight and it is supposed to rain tomorrow. My son has a soccer game tomorrow. We will see if they cancel it due to rain.

Don't let my DH here you say you would give it away!!!! He might just take it! LOL!
Actually, if it is still in good working order, check with your local schools. You could donate it and then get a tax credit. Here, Intel does a big recycling collection about 2ce year where they collect all kinds of old electronics. If they work at least somewhat - they are then donated to this school program where kids learn to work on them. If not they have some way to deal with all the parts. They charge $5 for TV's and monitors because of the costs involved in dealing with them, but I think if it can be used you can take that as a tax credit too (would double check with a tax specialist!)

Gift Certs are a great idea, but you can't use your discounts on them. I've earned a purchase discount that I planned on using, and since I want to get 5 to 10 kits......
Christine
10-05-2008, 01:27 PM
yes Lisa you can use both
you just put in the discount coupon, then checkout w/o specifying your payment info, then it will apply the discount and ask you how you want to pay, then you use the gift certificate
When you buy a gift certificate, the money goes right into your account and sits there until you use it up, so you don't need to keep track of a code or anything, it is just another option to pay.

I know my avatar isn't as detailed as some of yours, but my kiddos and I figured out how to make one. Thanks to them we picked out some neat faces, we are so excited!!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! and I think you must be pimping my new kit, cuz I have those colors in it. tomorrow, ladies, tomorrow I think it will be in the store tomorrow :D I am so excited cuz I loved how it turned out!

I think it is adorable! I can't wait to see the actual texture in the papers (you do those so well). I already told you I don't do Halloween (yeah, I know - but my kids don't eat the candy anyway and DH and I don't need the lbs.), so I will have to figure out how to use it, but it will really be "a challenge" LOL!

PS: You said you had not decided which kit to do first so I'm going to through my 2 cents worth in here. Since the Funky Boo is going to be a little tougher, I would rather do that one next week rather than trying to fit it in with SWTS - Pretty Please!!!
(I have some Peppermint Sticks with your name on it!!!!!!!)

Wow what a busy day I had. Swim meet this morning, then ran a flu clinic for most of the day, then had to go pick as many tomatoes as I could get out of my garden, since we think it will freeze tonight. Then canned 14 quarts of marinara sauce, went with the fam to get something to eat and finally back! Oh yeah and worked on my lesson for Young Women's in church tomorrow.

I was pretty busy today too and may be busy most of the night. DS #2 has a horrendous cough that nothing is working for! Not even his inhaler! Of course, I didn't accomplish nearly what you did! LOL! I just had to smile and pretend to enjoy my DH's father and step-mother's visit. We'll have a couple more hours of it tomorrow and then it will be over though! Could be tons worse!
I will just have to try for that Photoshop price. I figured with kindergartners it would be a no go! LOL! Will check with Nicole too! Thanks. Have a good night!

Well, since that last post he has finally gone to sleep. We'll see just how long he stays that way! Poor thing is just so sensitive to these coughs ever since he had a really super bad allergy attack that went into basically what they called asthma. It wasn't really as he has never had a real asthma attack since. But I sure feel bad for him. He coughs so hard, you know it hurts.
Well, I'm off to bed now that he is sleeping. I'll be by tomorrow! Maybe I'll get time to visit your gallery and see pictures of your kids!

Gosh, Lisa, I sure hope you ALL had a good night's sleep! A friend of mine got PSCS3 through academicsuperstore, using her status of a substitute teacher. (retired from teaching K, after 37 years) So they might not be a stringent as you've been lead to believe. All you have to do is go to their site and roam around until you stumble across their requirements.

Hugs to you and your boy, Lisa. My oldest son gets wicked coughs when the mold & mildew spores get bad, but the allergist SWEARS he's not allergic to anything. At first signs of cough, I start him on Zyrtek at night, then he gets a Mucinex in the morning. It's worked really well this year (had to do this twice, when we got hit with heavy rains)...MUCH better than the previous 2 years when they didn't have either drug as an OTC. I hope your little one can find some relief soon!

Chris, heard about your s..... (not using that word, I know there are some out there that don't like it) from FIL this morning. He is going through there some time in the next 2 weeks and because of it bought an old set of chains we've had sitting in our garage for years. They fit his car but the car DH bought them for was sold like 4 years ago. LOL!!!!! Won't he find it funny when he discovers that it will be long gone well before he gets there. Will tell DH to get the check cashed quick! LOL!
DS still sounds awful, but he slept better than we thought he would last night. Will give him a good steaming before sending him off tonight as that's what seemed to do the trick last night. Zyrtec never touches my kids. Finally found Zyxal (at $40 per bottle and lasts about 2 weeks with both boys taking it) this summer. They are definately allergic to grass, trees and some weeds and I would swear mold and mildew too! The Zyxal worked really well, but this is not allergies, it's a cold that the whole family has had. Since he is soooooo susceptible it just hits him harder. I feel really bad for him, I know it hurts and there is so little that I can do!
Well, off to dinner, then back to get my SWTS LO's uploaded and linked. At ya' later.
BTW, Nicole says just call AcademicSuperstore and they will check the rules, but figures that I can still get the discount. I may just have PS by Christmas!!!!!!
Christine
10-12-2008, 09:23 PM
LOLOLOL too funny about the chains! Yes cash it quick. :D Of course, around here you never know when it will go from 70 right back down to 30, we only get about 2 days of autumn and spring here.
Good job on SWTS! Can't wait to see.
Hope ds continues to improve, antihistamines still work even if it is a cold, because they don't care what is causing the runny nose etc, if it is histamine related it will go after it. Personally I like Claritin better than Zyrtec, works better for me and cheaper too, esp if you get the generic.

HELLO FROM MEMPHIS TN !!! Yes, the lone Rhode Islander is now in Memphis..85 wonderful degrees ! ( Yes, Chris, just had to rub that in ! SORRY) I flew into Louisville, traveled to Nashville and now here, on my way to Arkansas to visit friends. I must say, the travel is so diffeent from what I'm used to...to put it in perspective - Rhode Island has about 33 highway exits total ! So for me, traveling with farmland, livestock grazing on either side and relatively uncongested highways is somewhat astonishing. I've seen some amazing things and learned along the way. Yes, I am a geek to the core ! Did some "caving" and got some interesting photos. Unfortunately, I didn't bring the EHD so have no scrapping supplies. After my last EHD disaster, I feel better leaving it at home.
I've been busy and have missed so much. Tomorrow, I plan to head to Graceland, putter around Memphis and head into Arkansas on Tuesday. So I have plenty of time to see a few more things than I originally planned.
I am so loving this vacation. It's nice not having anybody asking me "Are we THERE YET?" from the back seat ! LOL !!! Imagine, going at my own pace, seeing what I want to see and for as long as I'd like. This is like a dream come true.
My old self is in be by 10 PM tho... old tired a$$ that I am ! But I'm up and out by 8AM. Today was a long drive --almost 300 miles- so I'm pretty beat !
So anyway.....

You are one step ahead of me. I tried to learn PSE6 and it just blew me away. I upgraded to PSCS3 and it was the best move I could have ever done! I was lost at first but everyday I learned something new...shoot, I'm still learning. I was able to do a layout with it without any class but I finally broke down and took the intro class here at DSP and learned sooooooooo much! I love the program even though there are still a few things I can't figure out, but I always have my old program to back me up in a pinch. I don't learn too easily these days, I think it has something to do with age or maybe I'm just to set in my ways, but I was and still am learning PS so if I can do it....ANYONE can do it!

I have not been around lately due to my son Micheal's cleft palate surgery. He had the surgery on October 9th and now he has to relearn how to talk. He has his speech therapist and whatnot but at home I and the rest of the family are to work with him on his speech. He's doing well, little boy just bounced right back. He sounds nasal now which the speech the therapist said he would in the beginning. Just giving a heads up on what's going on.

Hey Chellie, glad you guy is doing so well! DH went through surgery a few years ago that was similar to cleft palate surgery and was miserable for weeks. Of course, it always seems worse when they are full grown men!
Thanks all for the help with the PS. Now I just have to get paid and decide what to do!

Chellie,
Boy do I understand what you are going through...well sort of....My oldest son was born with a cleft lip and we were told the cleft lip and cleft palate sort of go side by side. Luckily he only had the lip. They did surgery on him when he was nine weeks old and never had to have anything else done other than braces for his teeth. I know cleft palate surgery can be numerous. I hope your little guy gets this all taken care of in one surgery. My "baby" is now 35 years old so I imagine things have changed since we were given all that information!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your concerns. The surgery was about 2 hours long. When I saw him in the recovery room, I did break down. Luckily my mom was there. Here I am suppose to be strong for my child and I needed consoling. My mom said she understood. He looked so pitiful. He had arm restraints and his tongue was sewn, yes sewn with a thread to his cheek. I understand why it was done but I still didn't like it. His throat hurts but he is swallowing more which is good. He's bouncing back to his old self and I am very much relieved. The surgery went well and his palate looks very much as he was born with it whole. As of now, he just sounds nasal which the speech therapist said he would. His follow-up appointment is on the 21st. With much prayers, everything went well.

big hugs Chellie, you concentrate on supporting your ds and we will concentrate on supporting YOU! Thankfully kids are so resilient. I know what you mean, my dd had to have a procedure done when she was just over 1 yr old and they had to strap her down and she was crying for "mommy" and I still get all teary thinking about it. It is the worst when you know it is the best thing for them but doesn't make it any easier when they don't like it.

No he didn't have trouble swallowing before just sometimes certain foods would get caught, scrape or burn in the "hole/gap". The surgery caused him some discomfort and pain but he's all better now.

LOL you are all too funny, but glad you are missing me :D We had a nice flight over and spent yesterday on the North shore. It was rainy, windy and overcast they whole day. :( Pretty sad that it was warm and sunny at home. Sheesh! We went and hiked (more like strolled) to the Waimea waterfall and swam in the lagoon, went into Laie and saw the temple, drove up to the lookout for a great view of Honolulu, spent some time in the hot tub and walked along the beach. Wow those waves are awesome! Overall having a great time, but pray for sun for me, won't you? ;)

Chris -- sounds like you are having a good time. Swimming with the dolphins would be cool too bad they din't cooperate. I guess they didn't get the memo that they were supposed to swim with you all. lol I love Hawaii. I haven't been there for a while. That is on our list of places to go. DS hasn't been there yet and he really wants to go. Sigh one day....
We had a great weekend at the Cub Scout Cub on this last weekend. The weather was mild. They had a haunted house, pumpkin carving, leather crafts, swimming, bb guns shooting, archery. The kids got goodie bags for wearing their halloween costumes. They had a pumpking carving contest. The best part is they provide and cook the food. My kind of camping. :pumpkin2:

I went to Pearl Harbour 20 years ago, and I still recommend it as THE place to visit when in the Hawaiian Islands. Its' such a powerful, emotional site !
Happy birthday, Lisa !! I hope you post a photo of your new haircut...I just had a "trim" and the hair in the back of my head is now about an inch and a halff long ! Amazing what my stylist can con me into when she gives me wine before the cut ! It's a cute cut tho..Have a great time and enjoy yourself... go wild with the hair.. it grows back !
I'm back at home from vacation. Saw some wonderful things, saw some ok things and saw some things that were blah ! Ate some wonderful food and saw my friends.. it's was an adventure all around. Did 10 days of travel by myself.. no hotel reservations or anything.. just went by the seat of my pants ! Great way to travel.
One of the highlights was the airshow ! The Blue Angels were just phenomenal ! They flew in on Thursday and were actually practicing above the house I was staying at ! They actually made the trees bend when they flew over they were so low ! i have some photos, but their show is really much better suited to a camcorder. I seem to have misplaced the disk with the best photos on it. I think I left it in Arkansas mixed up with the disks of baby photos I left for my friends. DANG !
feels good to sleep in my own bed !
Good to see you all again. Off to finish catching up on the grannie thread and then begin the daunting task of scrapping my journeys !

I doubt I'll go wild with the hair. The last time I did that it was an absolute disaster! When DD was about 5 months old, you know, that age when they grab everything, she got her fingers tied in my hair so bad it took DH to get them out! Good thing he was home. I threw a tantrum of sorts and went off to cut my hair. Never like that again!

My son's soccer game went well today. They lost 4-1. It was a good game. They did hold the other time in the first half. My son and his teammates were playing hard. The weather was warm again today so all of the boys had red faces by the time the game ended.
Our Park and Rec is having their annual Halloween Spooktacular this weekend. They have a haunted house and then carnival games with prizes for the kids. My son went in the haunted house with my friend and her son. He said it was a little scary.

Perhaps I can get a few more details and try to find out.

Seeing the war memorials/museums from the Japanese point of veiw was very interesting/fasinating. (Our daughter-in-law, who is Japanese, would not go in them with us. She would wait outside while we went in. She hated anything to do with war. Her one grandfather had been a code breaker.) Most displays were done in several languages. Without exception, the theme was, Never Again. Never again will we be the aggressor. It was a very bleak time after the war. Many of there beautiful treasures--bombed. But they arose from the ashes to be a peaceful, strong, full of tradtion, and inventive nation, saving what ever national treasures that were left after the bombings. Would I live there over the USA? No way! Although my son does!
I am writing this a 4:30 am, so take it for what it is worth. Just another look at a terrible time in history.

JaeDee - we all would benefit from seeing such things from the "other guys" perspective. If I teach my children anything, I hope to teach them that there are always 2 sides (or more) to any story and when they start studying history, I will be looking for books that help them understand that!

JD, I was thinking the same thing when we toured the Arizona Memorial. I believe that they tried very hard to show the circumstances of why the Japanese did what they did from a fairly neutral standpoint. From the film at the beginning, it looked like the memorial was a collaboration between both countries, which I find so heart warming that both countries could let it go and move on as friends down the road. I think that is something that my grandpa firmly instilled w/in me, that it wasn't the Japanese people, but rather a few of their leaders. In the memorial, it even pointed out several times, that their highest military leader over the attack (Yamamoto, I think) did NOT want to do it, thought it was a very bad plan, but had to follow orders.

Gundi - you're a doing an incredible job as a designer! I love your style - it's very versatile. I rushed off to buy Always Orange Sue as soon as I saw it. Now for a layout - hmmm, so many possibilities . . .

Oh, my, I am so excited for my husband to go hunting this afternoon. I just opened DSP,s new CD "Falling For You" and I can't wait to be able to play. The kits are absolutely gorgeous! This was my prize for winning the "BIG BANG" challenge. Thank you again Chris for giving me the opportunity to get this wonderful CD with my gift certificate. I think everyone will agree that we all had a delightful time doing the challenges and getting to know each other. Your kits were wonderful and so much fun to create with. You can find the new CD at this link: http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=888. Be back later with my Layout.
Well, here my first page using these awesome kits. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=287089&ppuser=48921

Love the pages Chris! I have wondered how you get any scrapping done with your busy life. I love the Orange Sue kit, I need to do a review on it.
