Now my problems with visa's for France and UK start  :annoyed:, that's always the worst thing of planning our trips.

Visa's always hold people up! Hope you get it all taken care of without much headache!!

Good morning ladies. Not a good night. Finally fell asleep around 2, only to wake up around 5 because my shoulders were hurting. I eventually just got up and took my shower. My hands are so puffy this morning. They look llike the fat chubby hands of a 3 year old! Today's a good day for Johnny to show up since there's no way I'll be able to get my wedding ring on. This always happens when we're busy. Not sure why. I guess from lifting boxes all day. I think I'm gonna fire my husband. He's a slave driver.:rofl:

Rene, that's no good! I was up til 1:15 doing the pages for my SIL, she has to publish the book today! Then the one morning the baby sleeps in we have an apt. so I have to get up anyway. Why do they do that, he seriously NEVER sleeps in.

Rene, I'm sorry you didn't sleep well and are all puffy now. You definitely need to stay home and scrap today.

Chris, I LOVE all your backgrounds. You rock!

Sandy, yes, you're stuck with us once you have the flair. :D

Heather, my new Survivor buddy!! The little fat guy cracks me up. I don't want him to win, but he sure makes the game interesting. Why can't anybody see through him? I like Jaison and the doctor, and can't even remember anybody on the other tribe.

Ya he is good for the show, but he drives me nuts. We always DVR them and watch them on Sunday nights, so don't spill any beans.

Strange thing that.... I felt some chains tightening around my ankles when I added to my siggy ;)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: See how Chris is, controlling!

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone has an awesome Friday! Mine is going to be busy, it's HOMECOMING day for DD's high school! She has been over at the rival school with a group of kids AND A POLICE OFFICER (LOLOLOLOL!!!! he's our neighbor.. shhh) since about 4am!! I arranged it with the neighbor/cop and OUR school principal so that none of the kids had to worry about getting into trouble with the law or with the principal. They were all so loud here at my house this morning, I wanted to choke them all though... they were so excited!!! They are a REALLY good bunch of kids, I'd be willing to bet that this is the biggest crime they have ever committed and they were excited about getting to do it! Tooooo funnnny!!

I start NKOTB and the Mentee program today!! I'm soooo skeeered!! I won't have any time to start my NKOTB though until tomorrow. Drats!

Have a great day!

WOW, you are a great mom. I would have just told my kids to not get caught!  You will do great on NKOTB! Just have fun!!

Are you using CS? You can choose to AUTO SELECT LAYER or not and the check box for this is right at the top of the workspace when you have the move tool activated.

The CTRL click option can be turned on/off in the prefereces menu.. I think it's under the GENERAL tab... I have mine off so that I only need to click.

Don't knowi f that helps or hinders...

Did this only happen when you plugged in the tablet?

Yep, that box was checked so that was the problem!!

Which Survivor are you watching?

Survivor Samoa, I think! Do they have American shows in Omar? We don't watch TV but we do watch this just because it's hilarious to watch how these people think.

Oh Stitchie, wasn't the black hair dresser so funny when she was going off about how she lives in Bronx, or where ever, and this camping was horrible!

LOL! That is too funny. What a good mom you are arranging a police escort. Have a fun day Laura!

Homecoming day for me too. I'm meeting the band at the parade start and walking the route with them, then the game. Hopefully we can win this one. The band won't march their show during halftime due to the homecoming activities, so they play their show after the game tonight. Makes for an extra long night and I'm not really sure why they do that... I'm not sure anybody is going to care about the band after the football game.

Have fun!!! I've never heard of a band doing that before.

I read that the earthquake and tsunami that affected Samoa this week had no effect on the taping of Survivor. It said they are currently taping Season 20 in Samoa and Season 19 was also in Samoa. So I guess we are watching season 19 and they will be back there next season. I almost said something about who went home last night, but I didn't in case you hadn't watched yet. Thursday night has been family Survivor night in our house for years. We love it, some seaons more than others, and all watch together often with popcorn. except that last season, DD stopped watching with us because she's got too much else to do.

That chick last week had some attitude at the other camp. wow. And Sands, this was only the third week, so you haven't missed much.

Have fun!!! I've never heard of a band doing that before.

I've never heard of that either. I don't think I was at the Homecoming game the last two years. I don't know how many people will stay to watch so not sure why they do that. We'll see. I stopped working at noon today and relaxed for a couple of hours, knowing that I'm going to be on my feet all afternoon. I heading out shortly and coming back tonight with hundreds of new pictures to sort through :D
See ya'll tomorrow!

Ok Lisa I'm laughing so hard because I started your video and my dh in the BG says "NO". When my sister was here last week, she showed my kids a spanish video and it was that! She knows spanish and loves it so she wanted to show my kids some spanish stuff and they played with video over and over and over again. I even know the spanish for it..... Yo soy tu gumi nola! Ya'll wanna hear something kinda funny? Remember my DD and her friends, with the neighbor dude, went over to the rival school this morning right? Well.... a little nice lady who happens to like our group of kids, and USE to work at OUR school happen to be on campus already when the kids and the nice police man arrived to do their "innocent dirty work" (as they called it). She opened the gates to the campus, the gym and the office.. and she let them INSIDE to do their dirty work!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

So when the staff and kids of that school arrived this morning, not only was their school the victim of their rival, but it was literally in their territory.... not just outside the gates and parking lot! Apparently the coach isn't so happy... not in a bad way.. but more like in a fun rival "we are going to get you back" way...and his kids are planning revenge! His group is good kids too, so we have no worries...but it sure is funny. Wish I could see the look on their faces when they walked past those gates and realized their rivals were right there inside their buildings! Their principal thinks it's hysterical (phew!!) and our principal loves it and is proud of the kids for keeping it good clean innocent fun.

About time this town had some fun.. and school spirit!

Yay!

Hi Gundi Girls!!!!

Yay, I got off work at 7:00 tonight!!! So I came home and did some work bookkeeping since I've gotten behind on that this week, but that's OK because sitting in my desk chair was sooooooooooooooo much better than standing on concrete floors and lifting boxes of paper for the rest of the evening. Back tomorrow at 8. I'm hoping I can sleep tonight. I laid down on my bed for a second earlier, but decided I better get up and do the bookkeeping before I fell asleep.

I just looked at my calendar and realized I have 4 layouts due before next Wednesday. I don't know how that's going to happen. I'm about to work on one right now for maybe 1/2 an hour.

You guys have a great weekend!!!!!

Shana, where are you???? Is your tooth still bothering you?

Green eyes are a b*&^% to get rid of. But since you have another dog with pretty much the same eyes, you might try cloning (or copying and blending over the top). When you take your copy use a pretty good sized feather (in this case 10 might work). Then just blend it over the top using transform and possibly a little Distort filter to make it fit.

LOL well not to brag or anything but I have so many people that will come and check to see if I am there before they will get one, and they aren't shy about saying "Oh I will come back when Chris is here, she is the best" I actually had one guy, a few years ago, come back and say that he didn't think I really gave him the shot cuz we use retractable needles, so he never saw the needle after I gave it and he insisted that he didn't feel it at all! No actually we just have a "clinic" time set up kind of thing on 2-3 saturdays during flu season, right there in the store. They usually have me run them. When we aren't having a clinic, people can do walk ins but they have to wait in line with the prescriptions etc.

You have to be certified to give them as an RPh and your pharmacy has to have an agreement w/ a doctor that basically says you can have a standing order for flu shots so anyone who comes in can get one if you do this and this for screening etc

Back from the football game...well, I have mixed emotions about the whole thing... I was lucky in that I was right on the sidelines and was able to wander at will. There was also a pro photog there (with one of those massive sports lenses ) who was kind enough to not only let me trail him around, but gave me so many tips and hints about location etc. The only negative was the lack of REALLY good lighting. I personally think the field could use one more pair of lights. (and that's just me speaking.... I'm sure the city of Warwick feels what's there is enough.LOL ! And the team I went to see lost. Another note on the bright side was that I dressed warmly enough. haha.

I'm going to try my hardest not to get too ragged. LOL That's awesome that you can get certified for shots. NYS has so many rules and regulations it's hard to do anything here. If you've ever done a transfer to our from our state, you'll get the idea...LOL We can't transfer controls, we can only transfer 1 refill in or out then would need a new prescription, we can't accept anything that's not on a NYS pad that's a control....there's so many it's not funny. I used to get a LOT of people from PA yelling at me because of the transfer laws, etc. They didn't understand why it was so different from when they went 15 minutes down the road in PA.

Just of note to you other shooters... I had the iso all the way to 3200 as kind of an experiment, but I was generally surprised with how decent they looked on the whole. Definitely not perfect, certainly not great, but decent. Tell me what you think. I may do this again.

You sure are up late! Must be able to sleep in tomorrow!

have fun and don't get to ragged :D

You have to be certified to give them as an RPh and your pharmacy has to have an agreement w/ a doctor that basically says you can have a standing order for flu shots so anyone who comes in can get one if you do this and this for screening etc

I'm gonna call the company tomorrow as I haven't received it yet... don't know what size the package will be.. sometimes they are bigger than i would assume due to all the packaging.

They did say there may be a shipping delay because the BILL TO address is different from the SHIP TO address....

I hope your undies aren't in too tight a twist over this...:rofl::rofl::rofl:(My grannie panties would be a thong by now ! )
YOU WILL GET IT.. YOU WILL GET IT... JUST BE PATIENT !

yup yup.. that and the fact it took FOREVER to load those images..but i wanted to get them done and out of the way..those 23 are the only ones I kept out of 140.. so not too bad. I really was surprised with the outcome. i really didn't expect to have that many decent ones. And to have the iso so high and them look decent was also nice. They don't seem too grainy.

I think the biggest disappointment was the lack of any real "highlights". I felt bad for the kids. They are a very young varsity team.... mostly sophmores...last years team made it to the state championships, but the majority of that team were seniors. This group is trying to fill high expectations. And yes, that young man's face says it all.

hmmm...typing on the laptop means not checking for spelling errors (mouse gets in the way and makes the whole screen bounce!) I still think you did a fab job. And I'm surprised too that the high ISO didn't look worse. I went to 800 not long ago to see if I could get rid of the stabilization problem I was having and it really got grainy!

Ya'll wanna hear something kinda funny? Remember my DD and her friends, with the neighbor dude, went over to the rival school this morning right?

:lol::lol: that sounds really funny!

Sands you must have gotten quiet lately. We were even, then you and Crys both got way out in front of me, wonder when I surged out in front. lol I don't think either of us is ever going to catch chatty Crys. :D

Another note on the bright side was that I dressed warmly enough. haha.

What do you say to that? Ummm ok next time I will make sure it hurts more?!!!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Hey ladies I just got home from my friend's. It was her birthday so we had a little party for her. I was fed like I've never been fed before...and my stomach is protesting! LOL

Rene...I'm glad you got to go home and work there...at least that's more comfy for you. :D

So tomorrow starts the next few days of whirlwind wedding weekend for me. Say that five times fast! LOL. We go tomorrow morning or afternoon (I hope afternoon) to get everyone to pick out their dresses and get that square...thank gosh I already have mine picked out. I don't want to try anything on at this weight. LOL Then Sunday it's my sister and I at the bridal show at the arena. WOOHOO I get to cater to her every whim! Thank gosh I love helping her, or I might go crazy LOL. So if I'm not around much this weekend...my sister has run me ragged. LOL

Have a fun weekend of wedding stuff!!!!

oh good girl!

No actually we just have a "clinic" time set up kind of thing on 2-3 saturdays during flu season, right there in the store. They usually have me run them. When we aren't having a clinic, people can do walk ins but they have to wait in line with the prescriptions etc.

Oh I see.

ok here goes :)

This was our dive master with him :
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr249/sandshealy/P9113035copy.jpg
He came really close to us, at one stage I had to try and suck in my stomach so that I didn't make contact with him.
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr249/sandshealy/P9113031copy.jpg
We swam with him for close on 20 mins!
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr249/sandshealy/P9113025copy.jpg
When we eventually very reluctantly got on the boat, she still circled us, while we were packing our gear away, and we had to wait till he was some way away from the boat so we could start the motors up.
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr249/sandshealy/P9113027copy.jpg
We've been very lucky since this is our 3rd time seeing one in 2 years :)

I always look forward to seeing your photos...please post them....when we were on vacation at Cape Cod MA there were warnings of white sharks and they even closed several beaches around labor day. The sharks were after the seals that were swimming up and down the coast.

Yeah they are normally sighted between June and October here, so we were really hoping that we would see him / her. Amongst the four friends that we dive with, the one wife is the only one that hasn't seen one. She was sooooo determined she would see one on that dive that while we were handing our gear over to the boat driver after the dive, she kept her head in the water. That's the only reason why we saw him. Cos she was the last to start taking her gear off and she saw him!

:Talking of photography, a friend of mine here is getting married at the end of November and she's asked me to take her photos :eek::yikes::yikes: I couldn't really say no...... now I'm freaking out!

Been there, done that... so having been in the postion of soiling myself in terror....
1. There are ALWAYS the "must have" shots.. THE RING, THE KISS ( "you may kiss the bride" moment, etc.). make a mental list of them and be ready when they happen. Since quite a few of them are at specific times during the ceremony, you should have no problem with the timing.
2. FAMILYSHOTS- ask the bride/goom if there are any special family members coming for special shots.. enlist the help of someone (not the bride or groom) to help organize the family so everyone is ready to go. I would suggest doing the bride/groom + any elderly family members first as sometimes it is difficult for the elderly to wait around. Do them first so they can proceed to the reception venue.
3. VENUE- arrive a tad early and scout your location. If it's outdoors, look for a pretty area of open shade. If indoors, scout out an area without too many background elements... ( doors, windows, framed art work etc) . If possible, have someone stand in position so you can take a meter reading etc and either remember it or write it down. Then when the time comes for the actual portraits, you are all set !
Ceremony pictures in a church can be tricky .. especially if there are stained glass windows! Again, take a few practice shots prior to the event so you can make any necessary adjustments ! Also a good idea to ask the minister/reverend/ where you are able to walk...he/she may not want you ON the altar/choir loft etc. Doing so can help you plan your shots .
4. RECEPTION shots are more relaxed , fun and free for all. Again, any special family members should be remembered here too. The bride, groom and their families will be especially appreciative of those images of any elderly/special family members having a good laugh/dancing etc. But basically, it's a matter of following the bride and groom around..

I think that one and the one of the guy with his hands clasped in front of him are my favorites. the elderly gentleman, Pepper, is a lifelong resident of Warwick. His children and grandchildren played for the school football team over the years and he has NEVER MISSED A GAME ! A year ago, his wife passed on, leaving him ever so devasted. The coaching staff made him an honorary coach so now he gets to hang on the sidelines with the team. The kids really love him.

I'm home schooling now, and using any and all materials to spark conversations. When we do my "Where I Live" challenge for Sunday Scrappers I'll be begging for you to add yours!

Don't ask me what got me afraid of them, but I seriously have to talk myself into going into the lake because it will be OK. Good thing she was so intent on watching! Hey ladies. So my wedding weekend was a bust. My sister never told me what time today...and my temp. filling is falling out, so I had to take major pain meds early this morning. I ended up sleeping through my alarm and woke up to a call from her asking if I were still going. I explained the situation to her and she said a call would have been nice. I feel horrible. I guess they can't get my dress in her wedding colors too...which stinks because she loved that dress and so did I. So now I'm back to square 1.

Hopefully I'll be able to make the show with her tomorrow...if she'll still have me.

A little sisiterly sympathy here ! It's difficult if not impossible to "wake up" with pain meds. And if you called early in the morning.. just what time are we talking here??? Early like 3am?? If you had called then, there would have been heck to pay ! I feel horrible. in more ways than one !!! I guess they can't get my dress in her wedding colors too...which stinks because she loved that dress and so did I. So now I'm back to square 1. AWWWWWWWWWWW crapola !

Hopefully I'll be able to make the show with her tomorrow...if she'll still have me.yes she will still have you.. sore tooth and all. Is the temp completely out? If so, the pain is probably from the "environment" seeping into the nerve area.. Can you get to the pharmacy and see if they have any OTC temp filling material? If they do, give it a try and see what happens. But before you put it in, make sure you clean out any food debris that may be lodged in there.. Even if you have been eating on the other side, stuff can still get caught. So make sure it's clean first!Dometimes just cleaning it out works too.. I have never used the OTC temp filling material, but I HAVE had patients who have had decent short term results with it.

The temp is still in. It's just loose I think. And I think the pain meds wore off because I can feel where it's pressing on the nerve. I'll definitely look into the temp filling material if I can wake up enough to get down there! LOL I've been trying to call my sis, but she's not answering. Hopefully I'll get in touch with her later tonight.

Wow thanks for this :D.... they aren't getting married in a church, since we don't have one here in our town (I'm in a Muslim Country), they normally have church in one of the houses, so they are getting married at one of the hotels here which should be ok :). I'm going to adjust your instructions ;) to suit that :).

Saw the shots totally awesome. It made me remember that I should scour your gallery for any LOs that might include shots/info that I can use with the kids. I'm home schooling now, and using any and all materials to spark conversations. When we do my "Where I Live" challenge for Sunday Scrappers I'll be begging for you to add yours!

Thanks Lisa. Now that I'm not on DET I have a lot more time for challenges and keeping up in threads etc. ;)

Oh MY GOSH! Those photos are so cool and I would seriously have crapped my pants (Rene )! Anyway...you all will laugh at me, but I have a hard enough time water skiing because I'm afraid of the little, itty, bitty, fish in the lake let alone the ocean. Don't ask me what got me afraid of them, but I seriously have to talk myself into going into the lake because it will be OK. Good thing she was so intent on watching! I really wish that someday I could scuba dive, but I don't think it will ever happen with me!

Then you would have DIED if you diving with us on this one occasion :D. We had come up from our dive and were waiting for the boat to come and collect us. It was busy uploading some other divers that came up before us ;). While we were waiting these little anchovies were jumping around out of the water around our heads. A few actually hit us in the face  All we needed was some lemon and Tabasco sauce and we had breakfast on tap :D.

So sorry it didn't work out Shana. I'm sure she will have you back, its just wedding nerves! Give her a call :)

Lemon & Tabasco - hee hee. Gary wants to learn to scuba dive really bad. He really liked the "snuba" think he did this summer in Grand Cayman, but he would really like the real thing. I showed him your photos of the shark. He was like "that's so cool".

Oh wow sands! I would love to see that in person. Those are some great shots. Oh I forgot to tell you all the bad news from today. The dress I was originally going to get didn't come in Clover (my sister's color) when we first went to get them, but they said it would be coming out in clover. So I ordered it. It didn't come out in clover. So now I have to find a new dress. She wants me to be the only one with white in my dress because I'm the MOH, so the first dress was perfect...it was a white top with clover lace around the midsection and a clover skirt. I can do that in separates, or there was a dress I was in love with before I saw the other one.

Yeah I've already started just cutting down my portions and watching what I eat and I know I've lost weight because I'm almost able to fit into my old pants again. I need to get active again too because that was most of my problem. So I've been wanting to go on nature walks...to photograph and get the exercise. It's just a matter of getting the motivation on those off days.

Christine
10-04-2009, 12:58 AM
yes she will still have you.. sore tooth and all.

I have both used it and had patients use it. works well. The one I had was Dent Temp I believe

oh yay I got caught up. So anybody want to join the poor gundi party?
Let's see what did I have on tap today.
6:30 got up to make sure Aimee got headed to her swim meet
7:30 went to swim laps (hard to do when you still can't breathe from your stupid infection but did it anyway. LOL)
8:30 came home, got ready for work and checked in for a few minutes
9:30-2:30 at work
3:00 came home and ate cuz no time to eat at work
3:20 started making applesauce. Peeled a huuuuuuuuuuuuggggge box of apples. (Like you know those boxes that fit 10 reams of paper? it was bigger than that, filled all the way to the top.) Plus the apples were smallish, so it was a LOT of them.
4:00 still making applesauce
5:00 still making applesauce
5:30 finally ready to start bottling
6:00 realize I only have enough seals for the first batch, call dh at work, please pick some up on the way home.
7:00 next batch all ready but waiting for seals
7:20 dh arrives home without the seals cuz they were out grrrrr
7:30 go to the store by seals and a bunch of boring stuff we needed
8:00 process next batch of applesauce
8:15 start making marinara sauce, while cleaning up the applesauce mess cuz I need those pans again and apple marinara didn't sound too good
9:00 still doing tomatoes
10:00 bottle sauce and cleaning potatoes from my garden
10:30 cleaning all of the mud out of the sink from my potatoes, seriously had NO idea they were that dirty
11:00 waiting for marinara to be done processing
11:15 Check my email and forums, almost 150 emails! sheesh!
12:00 still trying to get caught up

LOL So is it ok to complain about being tired? LOL Of course in between all of that was the constant, mooooooommmmm, help me with this, where is that, etc etc etc. :D

You are MORE than welcome.. I just hope it helps. The hotel should have somewhere great for photos either inside or out. I can't stess enough the magic words OPEN SHADE....if it's just SHADY, then you can get those blanched white spots on the hair, face etc.

My friend, Michelle, was recently married and I did the camera work. the ceremony was finished at 12 noon ! OMG nothing but harsh, harsh bright light... and there was very little open shade available... and the only really pretty places were wide open!

I took their bridal shots in probably the least attractive spot which of course offered the best option for shade... but once I zoomed in and arranged them a bit, all the ugly was cut out..

I enlisted the aid of her mother in law to organize her side of the family, and her mother to organize that side. And just told them in advance where we would be.

Her reception was, of all thngs, a back yard barbeque... so it was just a matter of following people around, trying to get shots of everyone "doing something" and then just checking with 'the mothers' at various times for any group shots they would want.

I did get some fun shots of the bride getting ready.. and the mimosas that were on tap !

I can safely say the photographer was very relaxed by the end of the day ! LOL

OPEN SHADE would be like the shade under a canopy... very little bright light filters through so there are little or no areas of vivid sunshine/shadow contrast.

as opposed to SHADE where the sunlight filters through making areas of vivid contrast.. (think light filtering through tree brances and getting all those bright spots of sunlight on the ground. )

I suppose you could almost consider underwater photography like open shade.. the lighting is more even without great flares of sunlight piercing through.

Hi lovely ladies the beauty or the itouch. I woke up at 6:30 and categorically REFUSED to get up. Since it is general conference, we don't have regular church meetings and can watch it on tv in our jammies so I am staying in bed catching up from there. Lol it is raining like crazy! Sands u should bring the kids over we already have snow up in the mountains and more I am sure after today. :D

Carolyn and Sands you both have had some awesome pics posted wahooo for you! OK photography question. The other day I was trying to take some closeups of a rose I was using my 50mm 1.8 lens on the D80. The problem if I got in as close as I wanted, I was too close to focus. I am wondering now if I should have left on the 18-200 and just zoomed in. Would zooming give me the shallowness of the 50mm? Cuz it is a variable lens so way zoomed is like 5.6 I think. Any other options/ thoughts? Seems like it talked about this in Brian's book, but I had to turn it in to the library. :( help please.

Guess what!!! I've got an appt for a massage at 1:30!!!! I'm so excited!!! My silly husband got up this morning and went to play golf at 8:00!!! Not me, I slept till 10:00! Yay!!! I'm glad he was going to play though because he needs some fun after the week he's had. I am thinking about going to see Fame after my massage if there is a showtime that will work. No one in my family wants to see it, so I may go by myself if my friend is still sick from a cold.

It will probably help to pull some of the demand from Ogden and Logan, plus think how super that will be for all the people in Tremonten and the little towns along the Idaho border. When it is done, let's plan a day to go! yay!!!

Let's see if I remember everything:

Shana - ouch! I feel so sorry for you! I'm sure Sands is right and your sister will forgive quickly!

Sands - love your photo's. Who knew that "Nudis" were such exciting photography models!

Rene - Love the new avi, and Gary I truly giggled when you popped in! Don't be a total stranger!

Carolyn - What have you been up to GF?

Chris - I would stay in bed all day after a day like that! (well, I would want to!) And I would be whining a lot more than you did!

I think I hit just about every major store in town yesterday. I was shopping for school stuff. The big disappointment was not being able to get the shelves I wanted for school supplies. The guy at Fred Meyer was totally uncooperative! May try one of the other stores this afternoon as I couldn't finish the grocery shopping. I did get the math materials that I need to move forward with the kids, some Christmas gifts and a couple of Science books. Did you know that Border's and JoAnn fabrics give discounts to teachers? And further, did you know that as a home school Mom I qualify? Yeah! 25% on books and music at Border's (plus this weekend it's 30% on everything but magazines), and 15% at JoAnn's. You don't even have to prove it's for the kids!

Don't forget the Sunday Chat! We sure have been having lots of fun, haven't we Shana?

Find any old Windows CD (98 is the best as that's already installed). Put it in and "Reinstall" the OS! Tell it to "Reformat the drive". This wipes everything on it and puts a brand new copy of the OS on it. A real expert could still grab data, but it would be more money than it is worth to even try at that point.

that gives you plenty of time to loose and be healthy... grab your camera and take a walk..every time I take the camera for a walk I'm gone for HOURS! You'll feel invigorated AND have somethng lovely to show for your time !

I actually did that today! Walked for about a mile or two and felt great...apart from soreness! LOL The only problem is is my throat is raw from the beginning of a cold, but I can deal with that!

Shana, pretty dress! You can drop the weight. Just take it slow and healthy. I need to walk away from the computer more and get active too. :D

I know this darn computer! :D

Just catching up really quick! Don't have time to comment on everything, but sounds like you are all OK, but Shana SO sorry about your pain.

My sister put me on a MAJOR guilt trip today, but hopefully that will be the last of it. Her friend upset her more than me, so I kind of got off a little bit easier considering.

Yes the Sunday chats are awesome! I'm sorry I couldn't make it today...I was at the bridal show. You want to experience something interesting? Get in a room packed with about 300 bridezillas and watch the chaos! :D

Each lens has a "close focus " distance, and after that it will focus no closer.... for example, my fisheye lens will focus as close as 4" while my 70-300 will focus no closer than 15".

You do have 2 options... one is a set of extension tubes.. Extension tube are GLASSLESS tubes you put between the lens and camera body. This forces the lens to focus closer than it normally would. Kenko makes a set of 3 tubes, 12mm, 20mm, 36mm -Canon mount for Canon, Nikon mount for Nikon. Becuase they are glassless, they do not interfer with lens optics: the image will be sharp edge to edge. They do , however, cut down on the light entering the lens.. so typically you are tripod mounted when using them. The least expensive I have found them is $169.00

A second option is a Canon 500D close up filter. this is a glass filter but fantastic optics ... it will definitely allow you to see "closer", but not a true macro ! It runs about $150.00 for a 77 mm and around $75.00 for a 58 mm..(I know those two particular prices because I have one of each..they also come in other sizes and are priced accordingly.) there are other "close up filters" advertised as MACRO filters, but the optics on them are very poor- you'll wind up with smudgy edges...

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/photo.php?pid=30737072&id=1076590219 this was done with the Canon Close up Filter... Not perfect or well composed, and it's not perfectly sharp DUE TO THE BREEZE, but you can see there is no "smudging" on the outer edges above and beyond the very shallow DOF. This was taken with a 70-300 mm lens set to macro and the filter...

Some zoom lenses have a "macro" feature,,, not true macro, just allows the lens to focus a tad closer with it in the Macro position than what you could do when in the Normal position.

You can use your tele-zoom lens and get as close as possible to fill the frame with your rose... a zoom lens, by it's nature"BRINGS STUFF CLOSER" so you may get a better composition using that one. You may need to be tripod mounted to do this tho because of the variable aperture/available lighting.

Did I help or hinder ?

Christine

oh yeah I remember Brian talking about the tubes, didn't really get what they are. The longest being only 36mm they must be short, I remember thinking of like a paper towel roll when he was talking about them. LOL After I get the kids in bed, I will post my flower pics and you guys can see what you think. Oh and I need to post 2 layouts too. Wahoo actual scrapping taking place here, although I have already had one request to turn my LO into a QC. LOL

oh yeah another thing, ok say you are wanting to do lots of macro shots, and going to sell them or whatever, so you want to go buy _________. Not just do a work around. What would the _________ be?

If you are going to do flowers etc, you could get a 105mm macro lens http://www.adorama.com/NK10528AFVRU.html?searchinfo=nikon+105mm. .

An excellent third party option is the Tokina 100mm f2.8 http://www.adorama.com/TN100PNKAF.html#.
Either of these lenses are dedicated macro lenses rendering a 1:1 image. They also have a focus limiter switch which allows you to limit the focusing, making either a nice portrait lens as well

there are other third party lenses as well, but I only have had experience with the Tokina. My 70-300 is a Sigma, very inexpensive and it has a fairly sluggish action and a tendency to "hunt" alot. I bought it about 3 years ago when my money was very tight and I really didn't know as much as I know now about lenses. But based on my experience with the Sigma, I doubt I would look at another one. JMHO.

I have several Tokina lenses and have been extrordinarly pleased with them.. and honestly, for my purposes, i don't see the difference between it and the Nikon lens and the Nikon is double the price. Many of the shots I've shown you are taken with the Tokiina...And Lisa used them when I was in AK.. very smooth action, well built, excellent optics, and great price... Reviews are good for these lenses as well.

HOWEVER, if you are thinking of doing the itty bitty critters, then I'd suggest you jump to a 180mm or better.. Gives you a bit more distance between you and the critter, so no one gets all stressed out and skittish with a lens 3" from its face. But now you are talking REALLY big bucks and you'll need to double check that your camera has the capability to intergrate with the light metering and the autofocus feature.

I like my colors "thick" .. but the tweak was only very very slight. And yes, your photos have tremendous impact so ideally, you shoule only need to MAYBE sharpen them a bit. Most images could use a tad of sharpening anyway. But if everything else is done IN CAMERA, you relieve yourself of the burden of spending hours sitting at the computer in post process !

I love to hear a great photographer say that! I do a little tweaking in PSP, occasional cropping, sharpening, get rid of red eye and I love the curves tool. My goal is to have my photos reflect what I did with the camera rather than what I do with the computer, but the computer sure does make a big difference sometimes. :D Speaking of sharpening, what settings do you all use for unsharp mask? I had some presets and lost them a few weeks ago when my computer died.

Chris and Carolyn, both of your photos are fantastic! Chris I went to the photobucket site. My favorite is the side view of the rose. Carolyn, the fisherman shots are terrific. And Sands, your photos are way cool already!

I uploaded bunches of band pictures yesterday, nothing photographically inspiring though. Remember I told ya'll that the band was going to play AFTER the homecoming game. Well I guess it was more of a dress rehearsal for next week's competition because the only ones watching were the band parents! Look at the empty stands...

It was homecoming, so they did introduction of the homecoming court and crowning the king and queen during halftime. It was just silly to make us all stay late after an already long day, to perform the show just for the parents.

http://tricks.onigo.net/guides/2005/08/remove-color-cast-step-by-step.html
is a very quick way to use your photoshop program to correct color casts whether they be heavy or light....

here is an example.. this was taken on a beutiful summers evening- with all that wonderful golden sunset light... yeah?? where the heck is it??? Well, this was taken with the WB set to AUTO.. and to me it looks flat, lackluster and bluish... NOT AT ALL LIKE what I saw through the viewfinder..
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j237/mamamolar/DSC_0012.jpg

So, using ONLY the white balance/color cast technique ( and just cropping out those legs! ) I came up with this... and THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAW THROUGH THE VIEWFINDER !!!!!

I was under the impression that all pro's really work their photo's. So I'm pleased to hear that you don't need to do it, if the shot is pleasing already!I'm sure that some do it heavily and some don't... most images can use a bit of sharpening or color saturation boost.. depending upon the image and what YOU want it to convey. Personally, I like very rich colors- kind of want to be knocked over with color within the boudries of realism.

And I am getting past all the cropping etc as well...It is so much better to crop your image IN CAMERA (zooming in/out, repositioning, different lens choice) WHILE YOU HAVE THE SUBJECT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.. Of course, if you are shooting on the fly, then it's a matter of repositioning more often than not !

part of the workshop I'll be attending next week is professional post processing tips.We will be getting up and to location BEFORE dawn, shoot for an hour or so, then return to the classroom where Bryan is going to review, criitique our images and then go over what the pros look for and how to post process. The we will be returning to locaction an hour before sunset to 1 hours after sunsetfor more shooting. Then back to the class room for more critiques.

So when I get back, I'll be more than happy to share whatever I learn. If I can remember everything !

I'm off to Muscat tomorrow (Oman's Capital, about 2 hours drive for me), to try and get the first of my visa's sorted out. Please can you think good thoughts for me, I really don't want to be travelling there for nothing ;).

Hope all goes well, Sands ! Bureaucratic paperwork is godless !

Well the appt went very well. Thank you all for the well wishes. I was nervous because the woman in the room next to me was having a really hard time. So when the doc came in I prepared myself for a lot of discomfort.

I didn't feel a thing! And...it was over in about 2 minutes! He just popped that baby out and I was good to go. My jaw is starting to get a bit sore now that the novicaine is wearing off, but it's not even half as bad as what it was...so I'm a happy camper. :D

I'm so happy that everything went smoothly ! make sure you follow your post op instructions TO THE LETTER !!!

Hi everyone. Greetings from Paper Hell. :D I haven't had time to read all I've missed. Maybe tonight. I spent yesterday evening and 1/2 the night in the ER with a kidney stone. Passed it while I was there. Then spent 1/2 the day today at work having a hard time functioning because I was so groggy from the pain and nausea meds they gave me. Feeling better now. I miss you guys!!!

super Carolyn! So tell me how you upload those? Do you shoot in RAW? how do you convert? do you shrink the size for uploading, how do you do that? Tell me your process please cuz I think the way I do it takes forever LOLBecause I did these as practice/throw away shots, I just shot in JPEG. Other than that I always shoot in RAW. I convert RAW>JPEG throught LIGHTROOM and keep a DNG file separately.

Uploading to photobucket can be a pain in the butt... you can only change the size AFTER your initial upload .. under EDIT>RESIZE. ( I haven't seen any other way to batch load smaller images as initial uploads yet ! Doesn't mean it can't be done,, just that I have no idea.)

Not wrong to be excited if it's causing you pain. I hate dental work, but I hate pain more

It was homecoming, so they did introduction of the homecoming court and crowning the king and queen during halftime. It was just silly to make us all stay late after an already long day, to perform the show just for the parents. Those empty stands are so sad.. I have never heard of the band perfoming after the game ! When I was in high school, ( in the last century) the band performed and then the king/queen were announced etc...) Seems such a shame the band is not given the same importance !

We will leave from Seattle. We have Rapid Rewards from Southwest, so we always fly free. I was looking at some of the excursions, and oh my heck, they look so cool. One that I want to do for sure is a helicopter ride to a glacier, then go on a dog sled ride. How cool does that sound? I'm kinda confused about the weather though. Like how cold will it be in Alaska in June? Obviously cold at the glaciers, but when you look at the cruise websites, they say the average high temp in June is in the 60's. That confuses me.

another big canning day, went down to visit Cupcake and got twice as many apples as I did the other day LOL, will be doing those tomorrow. Today I did 14 quarts of pears. The silly things wouldn't peel worth crap, so I got inventive and used my peeler, corer, slicer like I do with apples, so instead of my pears being quarters they are skinny slices. LOL But hey it saved me a TON of time. :D The best part is 14/14 sealed bottles, I just LOVE that popping sound. :D

I will have to catch up tomorrow cuz I am just way too tired tonight. Hugs!

OK, that has to be the most convoluted trip any package has ever taken.
ANCHORAGE, AK, US Yeah! It's in the neighborhood!
LOUISVILLE, KY, US East?
ONTARIO, CA, US Hey, we finally went north!
VERNON, CA, US
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, US
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, US Not sure if this is further south, but it's still CA not northbound!
SAN PABLO, CA, US Further south
ROSEBURG, OR, US 09/30/2009 Totally going south here!
PORTLAND, OR, US 09/29/2009 Makes sense as Portland is bigger than Vancouver, so much of Vancouver's mail goes this way
VANCOUVER, WA, US 09/29/2009 Just north of the Oregon/Washington border

Sorry about the upside down tracking, but that's the way the site listed it!

Short sleeves may be comfortable at some points later in the day, but mostly light weight, long sleeves with sweaters for early and late. Of course, a coat, etc..., for the glacier trip. So I'm feeling much better today :D.

My trip to Muscat itself was pretty much uneventful. Which is a relief in itself considering the really bad drivers here. I was stressing badly about getting to the French Embassy in time, since yesterday I wasn't able to get 6 months worth of bank statements from the bank because they were and had been off line for 2 days , so I had to go this morning before I went to Muscat. That delayed me by an hour! The Visa section of the Embassy are only open from 9am to 11am. Then while I was waiting on the statements I happened to check my paperwork to see that I had everything that was required, and I noticed that the woman that had done my photocopying hadn't copied my resident visa for here, even though I had asked her to. Thankfully they just did it at the bank for me. I arrived at the French Embassy at 10:30, after driving passed it a few times!

As it turned out I walked straight up to the counter. The lady was very pleasant. As she was looking at my paperwork, I noticed a sign that said from the 6th October, children from the age of 6 needed to be present while their parents applied for visa's, so they could do biometric "whatever". I panicked. I had read on the website that they didn't need to be present and I hadn't brought them with me!

The woman was very pleasant, and overlooked the fact that my DD wasn't with me. I didn't have a consent document from DH agreeing that I could apply for visa's for my children and she was going to only process their visa's once she got the form, which would delay the process by another week! She kindly agreed for me to fax her the consent document, thereby allowing me to collect all three visas at the same time. Phew!

The best part was, as DH is British, I didn't have to pay a cent for the visa's!!! :yahoo:

I can only put this down to all the good thoughts / prayers that were coming our way.

Thank you!

Thank you!

Wow, how stressful!!! Glad it worked out though!

My little guy is SO sick!! HE started with a fever last night and then through the night I had to keep giving him meds. He is SO croupy, it must be bad when you pick up a 10 year old for school and they say, "it sounds like he can't breath." I have a dr. appt. but it's not for another hour still! I hate waiting. I hope you all have a great day!!

Rene, your cruise sounds awesome!! My sister and BIL want to cruise to Alaska in 2013 and asked me and DH to go with them. I'd love to go with her. How are you feeling today? other than being sick of paper....

 New title for you Head of RFED. Sorry about your booboos, though.

I have been out half the day, meeting at school, lunch with a friend, grocery shopping at BJ's and now I am finding it hard to do any work at this point in the day (almost 4pm) I also stopped at Best Buy to see if they Wacom tablets. I found them in the photography dept instead of the computer dept and was disappointed that they were taped up tight and none on display so I couldn't see one.

Well, here's my opinion for what it is worth: Don't go! If any one is mad, tell them this is for the safety of your child! It will be at least a week before he is really better if not a little longer. The steroids will have the croupy sounding cough much better, but not for at least 3 days! (after the second dose you will notice a big change, but still coughing). I know this because of the croup DS#1 had in June just as school was ending. Oh, and if any one else complains, just tell them that no one in the cabin will be able to sleep because of his coughing so you are really thinking of them (which, of course you aren't, but sometimes people think more highly of your choice if they are at the center of it)!

I almost flipped when I read the tracking info !!!!! And it was shipped THE DAY AFTER I ORDERED IT!!! I can only think that due to distance, they need to accumulate as many packages as possible for one massive load ! Either that, or UPS was just punch drunk.....your guess is as good as mine !

I think UPS is the one and only carrier that actually drives it up here when you ship ground. That is one reason most carriers charge more to ship here as it automatically goes on an airplane. (Even Amazons "free shipping" goes on a plane and gets here way before they say it will!)

Well, because I got back... and, my MOTHER decided to throw herself a renewal of vows ceremony this weekend...

and, I truly have not a thing to wear... I"M NOT kiddding....

it's their 50th wedding anniversay... I have a gift, a way cool card, hand made by a close friend.

I've been checking and checking with them... oh, nothing happening...

so, now, I have to be there all dressed up... for a big family event... and, I have truly nothing to wear... I've lost some weight.. so truly - I've been frantically going thru my closet looking for anything appropriate.

so, a shopping I will go.

Oh, and, I'm supposed to take the photos... how the heck am I going to do that too...

ok..

but, NAPP was soooo much and more... loved every single second of it.

learned a ton, that I never would have ever learned for a book or on line.

I highly recommend it to anyone who cares about photography...

And, we saw CHER!!!! Awesome!! Do, I have the best DH in the world, well that would be YES!!!

ok, and, I bought some cool stuff at napp, but, if I told you, you would know all my cool secrets.. hehe

so, I can't tell, you...

and, ok, that's my life... and, keeping up with my Mommy duties with the NKOTB...

that's a job... but, lot's of fun...

Awesome!! Do, I have the best DH in the world, well that would be YES!!!

ok, and, I bought some cool stuff at napp, but, if I told you, you would know all my cool secrets.. hehe

so, I can't tell, you...

and, ok, that's my life... and, keeping up with my Mommy duties with the NKOTB...

that's a job... but, lot's of fun...

sounds like a total blast except the secrets part.. but then again I've been torturing everyone with "secrets " lately... I've just kept the fires banked for you, Deb ! LOL

I am having the best day EVER! I found my camera! 100+ pics from New Orleans in 2005 saved! :D :D :D :D I got my dress for my sister's wedding. I have a picture of it, but I need to get an XD reader since I can't find the USB cable now LOL.

Tooth is hurting just a bit...nothing bad...I'm actually surprised at how easy this has been...I was expecting a ton of pain. :D

So how's everyone doing? I feel like I have so much to catch up on!

Debi - since you may not read back to catch up, I thought I would share this link again. It's a photography blog and this post was Wedding Photography tips.

And before I read another word, I have to tell you all - I'm shaking so bad I can hardly type, I'm crying so hard I can't believe I even was able to read Debi's post (oh, forget to say welcome back - you've been missed!). But my birthday present arrived! At 6:56 PM this evening the doorbell rang and guess what that silly, wonderful, BFF sent me! The Bamboo Touch! Yep! She bought me the tablet! I can't believe it!

So, as she publicly announced she was sending it, I will publicly say:
Thank You! From the bottom of my heart!

Yeah, but fun, isn't it ???
Do Alaskans have a different sense of time??? SCHEDULED DELIVERY October 6th.. seems pretty definitive to me !

Now I'm thankful we didn't get the tracking number at the beginning.. Imagine the chaos of EVERYONE checking the UPS site over the past week and watchng it hike around the states !!!

Speaking of Chaos, how is the dear?

The dear is doing fine. Seems one med (twice and day and bought on the Walmart $10 per 90 pills or $20 for a 3 month supply) and fluids about once per week are keeping him happy. Although he wasn't too happy last night when the needle came out and he started to bleed, or was that me and DH because he was dripping blood on the carpet. (not bad, it stopped almost right away and was quite diluted because of the fluids that came with it) He is showing signs of age as his hips are acting up a bit with the cold, but keeping him active seems to help that too.

Thanks for asking!

Aww Heather I hope he feels better soon. I'd send DH and the other kids to the cabin and stay home with the little guy ;).

How funny is my hubby with the pumpkin head?

:rofl::rofl:

Greetings from the Rain Forest Eradication Department. I currently have 12 bandaids on my hands and fingers due to paper cuts. The worst thing is the cardboard box cut I have. That's painful!

I'm feeling better today. I would love to go home and scrap though! :D

:rofl::rofl::rofl: but 12 bandaids??? How can you even fit that on your hands?:rofl::rofl:

OK, I'm sitting her all bundled in a giant (big enough for a King size bed) afghan that I made for my son a couple years ago, just trying to feel better. My lungs hurt, but I don't seem to have much cough and I'm dog tired. We cut school really short today and only did reading and a math game. We were done by 9 AM and then they watched a little TV which they haven't done in days while I rested. I feel like I could go to bed right now!

Aww no... you're sick too.... hope you feel better soon. Hoping the virus doesn't transmit cyberly :).

I take back what I said about godless bureaucracy.. because you DEFINITELY had an angel attendnig to you !!!

:yes: Definitely someone was guiding everything. Thanks to all my friends that were putting in a good word for me ;)

This has got to be the most anticipated package ever!!! A watched pot never boils.:rofl::rofl:

I agree, I started waiting with baited breath too!
