Hello Gundi girls. Hope everyone is doing well today.
Lisa, glad you are feeling better. Michelle, glad you're back and had fun holidays.
Debi I'm fixin to go check out that noise reduction software.
Gary and youngest DSD went to see Avatar tonight (I had no urge to see it) and DS is out with a friend of his from kindergarten that was in town, so I'm hanging out with the dogs. :D A nice quiet evening.

Stitch, sounds like you had a great Christmas. DH and I have been having a blast with his new Blu-Ray player. I doubt we'll ever go to the theater again unless it is something I absolutely have to see in 3-D (which really has lost it's appeal lately for me so I doubt I'll want to see any other movies in 3D)
Okay, well you (well really Carolyn) asked to see pictures from the new camera. Here's one of my favorites. It's not super great, but I was going for something artistic and practicing my DOF. I didn't want the bell in the background to be totally blurred out, just enough to give enough definition to the first ornament, so hopefully that's the sense that comes across. Oh, and I was also forcing myself, Lisa, to not center the photo on the ornament. CC's welcomed ladies. I really want to practice, practice, practice and get as much feedback.
I'll have to post a separate pic that turned out cute of f Cassie playing with her new bear (well eating it but same difference right). Tomorrow I'll be either scrapping (finally!) or seeing how well my friend's lenses do with the new camera. The one thing I've noticed is that the focal length (that's the same thing as zooming, right?) on this lens doesn't seem to be that far so I am having to get used to that until I can get a lens with greater focal length. Oh, and Carolyn, before you ask, I don't remember which lens I have right now! I'll have to look tomorrow.

Wow, This thread is soooo quiet!
Is everyone playing with their new toys?
I had my first injury on WUHU island (wi fit) - on the Step program - my toe nail hit the board, ouch - it pulled my nail up, and, ripped it half off... But, I kept going...
Good thing it's not sandal season.. that toe is a little ugly right now...
And, yes, I do keep my toe nails short - but, it just caught an edge as I came down off the board, and ripped it off... OUCH!
But, hey, we are both still laughing and having a blast with it. I put in an hour yesterday... And, already 30 minutes today..
WUHU!

Lisa - Yay on finally starting to feel better.
Chris - Hmmm some nice wants there ;)
Rene - I would kill for some me time!!! Hope you put it to good use!
Mich - So glad you had a nice Christmas, and yay on the book!!! So glad you got a better reaction to yours than I did to mine.
Debi - Once again thanks for helping with my CS issues.
Carolyn - Thanks for your help too.
I just got back from Dubai!!! Firstly it was a really nice day just spent with DH and myself! No interference. It was great. Went to the doc's and hopefully we can now finally get on top of some issues I've been having for a while.
It felt like Christmas all over again. Cos I got a Promate, 6 port USB Hub which has its own external power, or you can run it off the puter, and a genuine version of Microsoft Office. I also got a new wet suit for diving, a new weight belt and some weights. But the most exciting bit of the trip was that I got a new lens!!! Remember my 18-200mm Sigma lens broke on the morning we handed out the Christmas Pressies, well we decided to replace it instead of getting the old one repaired, which worked in my favour it would seem :D. I've now got the 18-250mm Sigma OS lens!!! :yahoo: I'm quite excited about it. It looks really good on my camera .
So near to New Years! We are having a quiet one at home with some friends coming around for a bbq! Hopefully this year I will actually get to see in the New Year

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k218/poohbear_1977_2006/DSC_0111.jpgActually, this is very good.. and you have accomplilshed what you set out to do.. The ornament on the left is unquestionably the subject.. red is a powerful color which the eye ALWAYS picks up first, regardless of position... so this particular ornament in this color works well in that position. Love the very blurred branch just in front of it- gives it a sense of place on the tree both to the foreground and to the background. The ONLY thing... and I'm being picky picky here, is that the sharpest point of focus may be just slightly to the right of the red ornament on the branch nearest to it. You can use the rocker switch to change the focal point from center to any one of he available focus points...(it's not very noticable given the subject, but when you are shooting people/animals etc it will become more so)

Well I get to have a totally "me" day today! No dogs to worry about and I gave the gals that usually come over to help me on Tuesday the day off today. I am currently in bed wearing my new flannel pjs I got for Christmas watching t.v. all the while a box of gourmet chocolate cookies by me and my Dr. Pepper (and a Thomas Kemper Root Beer just in case I finish off the DP).
This will be the first day in forever that I will be able to totally devote to scrapping! I'm so excited. Now if I can just concentrate. It'll be hard since my knee is still hurting from last week and I know I'm going to want to chat away with you all and whoever is on Facebook today....so your task is to keep me on task!
Off to scrap!

Ugh, sorry for the double post. Now I can't get rid of it. Oh well.
Carolyn, thanks for the feedback! I didn't really see how to change the focal point Christmas day, but I think I've got it now. I'm assuming you are talking about the branch that is touching the ornament? Yeah, I wasn't real happy that it focused there either, but now that I know how to change that (at least I think I do?) hopefully that won't happen again or as much! I'm glad you like the blurred branch in front. At first I really didn't like it but the more I look at it the more I think you are right that it gives it a sense of depth and placement.

Chris, I can send you the link for the other 12 if you like :) Oh, where did you get your LDS Scrapper flair from or did you create it? I would love to have one myself....my goal is to figure out how to do a flair card today. I never could figure it out this past year.
Christine
12-29-2009, 12:25 PM
the flair cards are really easy, just make a "LO" that is something like 600x200 pixels add what you want, upload as a LO, then you add the image location, just like you do for your other siggie buttons. The cool thing is to change it you can just edit the LO and your siggie will change right after (although you might have to hard refresh) I can't remember where I got the LDS flair, but I think I still have it. We are getting ready to go to the temple, so I will look when we get back. (Really I am waiting for Lex and her friend to be ready and then we are going so in the mean time I am talking to you guys, but I think they are almost ready. LOL)

I'm back:):) Sorry I haven't come to say HI to all my favorite DSP'ers! I have just been focusing on a bunch of home stuff that really needs to be taken care of! The holiday were great!!! My sister flew in from TX for a week and we had a ball! The kids are home and sick :( but all is well! DS has strep and everyone else has a really bad cold. But I've been pounding the airborne and neti pot and am doing really well! :yahoo: I just have to tell you, Ethan is being SO blessed because the colds he has gotten are very mild compared to the other kids! He is doing so well and my stress level is going down week by week with him and sickness.
One of my new years goals is to do at least 3 LO's a week, so maybe I can get caught up this coming year. Do you ever really get catch up though??
We have to get a new computer, ours is pretty much gone, burnt out, or whatever you want to call it. So I have to use my lappie and I don't get it out with the kids because they want to play and I won't let them on it!
I'll be around more from now on, but with the kids home it will be here and there!
What are you all doing for New Years Eve? We always have a party here, friends, food, what could be better?

Okay, it's official I HATE my computer! The one day that I get to scrap and be by myself and it decides to crash halfway near completion of my layout. Of course I hadn't saved my work in a little while so now I have to go back and try and figure out where I was at...ugh!
Before I go back to try and finish it though, I need some help from Carolyn and Lisa, the clipping queens! I'm trying to blend in this photo into the background, but I don't want it blended all the way (i.e. have the background and the picture to be as one...does that make sense) I know I know how to do it as we learned about how to do it at the Adobe crop, but for some reason it either isn't working or I am just having a brain lapse.
Here's what I am trying so let me know where I am going wrong:
1. Have the background loaded (keep in mind that this is a "blended" background that I've now been working all day on to look just like I wanted...so it's about three BG all with various blending modes)
2. Import picture of this palace in Amsterdam that I am working on for my European album. I want just some of the palace blended into the top BG layer (does that make sense)
3. I've clipped the background layer to the picture layer (not sure if I did it in the right order so I've tried it both ways)
4. Selected an oval size area that I want to have blended (again, not sure if that is coming across right)
5. Using my brush tool to "erase" away parts of the picture I don't want. This is where things are going wrong as it isn't doing it.
So Carolyn, Lisa, Chris....anyone....I could use the help!
Oh, and Chris, could you please pass along to the DSP team that at the next Adobe crop to please have handouts available for those of us who have trouble remembering from visual lessons! Thanks!

Kristie - gorgeous pic! Can't wait to see the layouts you are working on today.

Well, Thursday is our big day. We close on the business that morning, so I've planned a celebratory dinner at a restaurant here in town we've never been to. Lots going on this week, trying to hash out all the details and do end of the year/end of the business bookkeeping type stuff. There's still lots more to do, but I've made some headway with it. I'll still be working part time with the medical records scanning part of the business that we are keeping and doing the bookkeeping for it, but it's small compared to the other, plus no lifting of boxes or inserting of paper into printers. Yay. Sorry if I'm repeating myself on stuff I've already told you. Can't remember what I've said and haven't said.

Everyone save up your pennies!!!! I just saw a preview of Chris' new stuff that will hit the store soon - maybe tonight or tomorrow (not sure) - and it is AWESOME!!! They are masks you can use for photos or papers. One is a kit of Scripture Masks that have scriptures, etc cut out of them and they are really gorgeous! One of the masks has the word Angel cut out of it and has some angel wings! How precious is that? The other kit is masks only, and is very versatile! You will LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!

lol will pass that along. OK so first thing I would do is select the 3 BGs and flatten them into one layer, this will preserve your blending modes and make it so you aren't battling them in conjunction w/ your picture. Next did you add a mask when you were using your brush tool etc? I never saw that word in your description and really it is quite important in this step. LOL Make sure you are brushing on the MASK, not the picture. Also if you still have an area selected, make sure you are brushing INSIDE the selection or nothing will happen. Hopefully one of these tips will help. Do you have yahoo? I might be able to help you more if I can see ur screen shots.

It's been great the past two days doing whatever I have wanted to do. DH and I didn't realize how tired we were from getting ready for Christmas. Lots of decorating .... shopping .....finishing projects I painted for gifts .......etc.
We had 18 including 5 kids for Christmas evening sit down dinner. Everybody came after completing their family visiting obligations. Sat. we had our own family gift exchange so we spent the day playing with the kids toys.
Little by little the entertaining things are getting put away.
Monday I see the orthopedist and hopefully that will be the end as I've been going without the boot around the house and for short outside trips....haven't had any major problems with it.
Am researching backpacks for my Canon T1i. My problem is my laptop--17"Dell.With all this airport security, I want to be able to put it all in the backpack and not check it. It's going to be very heavy!!!
Anybody have recommendations for lenses other than Canon

Anybody have recommendations for lenses other than CanonWhen I travel, I put my lappie in a computer case and pack it in my suitcase along with tripod. I have the tripod in it's original box. I'll also throw in anthing extaneous I don't want to lug.... at airport check in, I have the TSA check it in front of me... the tripod looks like a shotgun on xray.. and have them inspect the computer while I watch. I then put on the lock and it's all taken care of. My pack would be heavier than I want if I haul everything in it.
Another option is to stow the backpack with boarding luggage/strollers etc. Then it's right at the door when you de-board the plane... relieving you of the necessity of trying to wedge it in the overhead compartments or under the seat.
As far as third party lenses, i have been very happy with the Tokinas... they manufacture lenses Canon as well as Nikon. About half the price, the optics are excellent IMHO, lens build is sturdy and operations are smooth .

Barbara, sounds like you've had a nice holiday. I'm with you all on the "me time". After a long hectic December, it's heaven to have a couple of days of no obligations. I went out with DH to do a couple of errands yesterday, but other than that we spent the day watching movies, playing Wii and just relaxing. DS got Wii Sports Resort for Christmas and we have all had a blast playing it.
Sandy, your photos are gorgeous! I love the photos on the Water Fun layout too. You rock, girl!!!
Rene, congrats on the business sale! Have fun celebrating.
Chris, good luck with Windows 7. Hope no gremlins show up.

Barbara, good luck at the doc. Hope you get a thumbs up! I love my Tokina lens too.
Sands, more gorgeous photos as usual. Pretty, pretty, pretty.
Today I have to go start physical therapy on my arm issue. I went once 2 weeks before Christmas, but since I'm supposed to go 3 times a week, I decided to wait until after Christmas to do any more. Yuck.
Who would like to come and take down the Christmas trees for me?:santa1:

Wow! Not a big read for being gone all day yesterday!
Kristie and Sands - great photo's! Kristie you did so great with the DOF, I'm totally jealous! Sands - I love those, especially the second one.
Chris - Woot! You installed an OS all by yourself. I hope you did a full install though, not just an upgrade! It's a precaution well worth taking with Windows. I'm thinking of trying to locate all my CDs and doing the same with my Mac even though upgrades go better usually than Windows do. I've had a couple of funky little issues that I'm wondering if a clean install wouldn't fix. At least I don't have as many backups to do to get ready!
Hi to Heather, Carolyn and Barbara!
Well, I popped on yesterday just long enough to move my LO with Chris's QC! I was really happy with the way that one turned out. The photo of the tree with all the snow was so full of noise (and no matter what I did to it, the noise was just there!) that by clipping it with the mask it kind of hid a lot of the problems with the photo. Beyond that I had a really big day with the kids. We took DH to work, grocery shopped and then went to the library. I'm pleased to say that the librarian played right along with me regarding the book the boys ripped. They stepped right up and admitted what had happened and she told them she thought the 'book hospital' could fix it. They told her they had money to pay for it and she said she didn't think it was that bad but the next time they would have to pay. Well, it was perfect because she knew what I was teaching them and played right along. You should see the haul of new books we came home with. Well, by the time we got in we didn't really have that much time before having to go back for DH, so we worked on a puzzle globe DS#1 got from his Aunt and just sort of played the afternoon away. We had fun, but now I have lots to get done.
Hugs all!

ummmmm I think it probably was the upgrade, it was whatever toshiba sent me cuz I bought my lappie right before 7 came out. Hopefully I won't have any problems w/ the upgrade because I hardly have anything on it. I literally only use it when I am going somewhere, if I am home I always use my desktop. so far so good, keep those fingers and toes crossed or held as the case may be :)

I'm not talking about the "version". I'm saying that you told it to wipe everything from the HD and did a clean install rather than keeping all the programs/data intact and just upgrading the OS. Traditionally this has been a big no-no with Windows as upgrades leave too much residue from the old OS. I'm guessing you just did an upgrade though since you didn't know what I meant. Hopefully you won't have any issues.

I am sure I did an upgrade then cuz I did not reinstall PS. Here's hoping :)

Barbara I use Sigma lenses with my Canon Body and I really don't have any issues with quality.
Also when I was visiting Chris I found a backpack that has a section for my laptop and I put my camera and lenses in the middle section. Once it is on my back I hardly notice the weight, but if I had to carry it in my hands it does get pretty heavy. I don't travel without it now.

Just a quick pop in to say Hello...
For my Nikon D60 I picked up a Swiss Army cera bag called the Diana at
Best Buy (that is wat I was carrying the whole ime at Adobe, don't know if you saw it ) looks more like a purse that a camera bag. Only drawback is it almost never goes on sale and it's about $59.00....
As for the lappie...I picked up a Swiss Army backback at Sam's Club fr $39.99 ad it has aspcil seeve for th lappie. I'm able to put in my 17 inch HP with no problems. At airport security I just unzip and put the entire backback through...
haven't had a single problem.....

2 things I want to say:
1) I don't like physical therapy. I could do the same thing at home with no cost.
2) TEXAS TECH HAS FIRED OUR FABULOUS HEAD COACH MIKE LEACH over his refusing to apologize to a prima donna 3rd string player who's daddy complained of Coach Leach's treatment of him! I am so upset! Especially considering I just got a fabulous new pirate t-shirt (Leach has a thing about pirates - me too, but that's a whole other story :D)!:eek::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::eek::eek:

well hmmmmmmm makes you wonder if they would have been so hot to fire him if the team had gone 12-0 this year instead of 8-4, sounds like they are not planning on paying him for some big bonus. So I have only heard the player's side (which sounded like pretty poor treatment, what I read made me think of cramming the player in a tiny tiny box and locking him for an extended time, no idea if that is even close to what really happened), what is the coach's side on the matter?

There's an $800, 000 bonus that Leach was supposed to get for taking the team to the Alamo Bowl.
Here's a pic of the "dark crammed space" that Leach put Adam James in. It is a space for equipment. All the equipment is not in there during practice because it is on the field. He was not the only one in there. There were 3 trainers in there with him. There is a fan in there and an ice machine, which is more than he would be getting if he were practicing. Leach believes that even if you are injured, you can still participate in some way, such as watching videos of past games (which is what he was having James do) or exercising whatever part of the body is not injured. The other day in question, James was put in an air conditioned media room type room to ride a stationary bike. Poor baby.
http://simg.sportsbybrooks.com/a/f/af19dd5494b110ba71a26509b8347eea_texastechshed.jpg
Adam James is an overindulged spoiled brat whose father thinks he's entitled to preferential treatment because his dad is an announcer. Leach was told to apologize to James, but refused to because he said he didn't do anything wrong. Leach has never been a politically correct kinda coach, never will be. They got to the hearing this morning to determine if Leach was going to be able to Coach the Alamo Bowl. The judge heard both sides and said he would make a ruling later today. So instead of waiting on the ruling Tech fired Mike Leach before the ruling. So they don't have to pay the bonus, or take the chance of losing the ruling by the judge.

Fran, I just read that post myself. I know that somewhere I had heard of someone having similar problem with one of the older PSE's but have no clue what if anything fixed it. As I recall it was about the time they put the photo bin at the bottom and it had to do with how people were dragging the PNGs in and out of the work surface.

Rene, I heard about this today and wondered if this was your team! So sorry!! So why was he put in the shed in the first place?
Because apparently he had a "mild concussion" and couldn't practice on Dec 16th, so Coach Leach put him in the equipment building to watch videos of the last week's game so he would be participating in some capacity.

Hello to all my gundi girls. How is everyone tonight?
I kinda got to make this quick. We are watching Transformers II on Blu Ray and DH hates it when I try and post while watching a movie at the same time.
Sands - your flower pictures are amazing! I hope I am that good one of these days. Thanks also to whoever else commented on my pic, I can't remember who it is right now and don't have time to find it again, sorry!
Sands - I know you told me before how you did your copyright thing already, but I think I am going to have to have you walk me through it step by step. I'm hoping to enter a big photography contest or two we have here in Alaska this year, one is coming up in Feb. called the Fur Rendezvous. I'm not sure, but I just might have to enter my Christmas photo as I think the rules are you can only enter photos for the past year and I am pretty sure that this is the best photo I have for 2009 (sad but more than likely true).
Chris - I am definitely going to be saving up my pennies (that's about all I have at the moment, so it might take awhile!) but I definitely can't wait to see your new stuff, especially the scripture masks. Just what I need!
Okay, well there is more I want to comment on, just can't think right now. I'll be back after the movie.

Oh, Oh, and I have like "colored" plastic pieces to put in front of the flash to simulate say natural density (various colors) , and, some muted colors (like blue, green, red)... because every one told me at NAPP I just had to have them for my speed lite... so I bought them... - hey they weren't expensive - like $5.99 per pack...
but, what the heck or how the heck to you use them.. yes I know you cut them out and, how you stick them to the flash.. but, ok then what...
so, any speed lite tips you have, would be so much appreciated. Since, I've had it for over a year, and, well, let's say I've never ever used it.. except to make sure it works, and that the batteries are in right.

Gm to the gg's. Off to lift some weights and swim in a few but thought I would hurry and catch up first.
So here's a question for u guys. Anyone notice that they don't sleep as well if they eat late, esp if it is a lot of sweets? I normally sleep like a log but last few nights I toss and turn. That's the only real difference I can see and I did hear that before. I sooooooooo need to get all of the crap out of my house. Lol

Well, my mom got her diagnosis - she does have cancer - it is Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma -
the good news according to her doctor - it is fairly easy to treat.. - the bad news is they also found out she is diabetic - and, she has several other things already wrong with her. So, They put her back in the hospital for her first chemo - but her doctors could not agree on her treatment plan as of 6:30 last nite... so there she sits, awaiting a plan.
I don't know how many treatments, or what at this point - but she does have adverse reactions to EVERYTHING!
And, she was the one that was going to keep my brothers kids, while he was going to have his cancer treatment... so, I guess I'll be spending a lot more time in San Antonio over the next few months...
But, families do what families have to do.
At least they caught it - in what they think is an early stage - but, the only problem is what damage is done - may be irreversible at her age - and her legs did go numb.
They will work on that - but her legs are pretty numb.. we'll see.. maybe a lot of PT after the chemo..
But, medicare is unwilling to even pay for a shower seat or a hose from the shower to the shower seat for this diagnosis... don't know what they will pay for as far as PT.

Thanks everyone for their awesome comments about my flower photos :D :D you sure do know how to boost my ego :)
My Peking duck that I cooked yesterday with Mandarin pancakes, Hoison Sauce, Plum sauce and a pineapple and plum sauce went down very well with my visitors last night! I was very relieved! I seem to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen these last two days. Tonight we are having another set of friends come around to bring in the new year, so I've been preparing potato bake, butternut and sweet potato bake, broccoli salad, and stuffing peppedews with some Philedelphia cheese..... phew, hope it all gets eaten
Oh butternut and sweet potato bake! I've never heard of that before, but it sounds delicious! Feel free to fax me some of it if you have leftovers!

Looks like you posted TWO minutes after Midnight, Rene! What's the matter, couldn't you wait any longer to open your presents?! I can see why though if you got CS4 AND a tablet.....you lucky girl!!!
We decided to get season Utes Football tickets for our present and I know dh got one more thing for me but not sure what it is. I guess my other present is the new radiator for the truck. Oh well, especially in this economy, I am just grateful for all that we have been blessed with. A wonderful, healthy family is at the top of that list and with as cold as it is, a warm house ranks up there too. :D I could go on and on, but just let me tell you that each of you has a spot on my list as well.
Hi Dorene! Merry Christmas!
What I have highlighted in red is one of the reasons I love you! ;)
Yay Gary got the tablet and CS4 installed. It was a Vista issue.
Drew got his Santa stuff and we just had lunch - chicken fried steak, gravy, french fries, rolls, buttermilk pie - not traditional Christmas Day food, but it's what Gary and Drew wanted so it was fine with me. Drew finally got his truck unstuck for the second time. Now he's going to go see his new girlfriend (whom he says is not his girlfriend, although he bought her a $50 present!). Gary is putting his new old fashioned popcorn maker and cart together that I got him for our TV room, then we are going to see Sherlock Holmes this evening. A great day!
Sounds like a wonderful Christmas, Rene!
After going to my brother's house, Robin,Bud and I went to see that Sherlock Holmes movie....it was good. Glad you got the programs all installed... now the new learning curve begins.....
Well, the two gifts I was having heart failure over were sucesses. I had 2 images which were suitable for framing for each of the boys. I originally sent them out 8 weeks ago to be printed on canvas and mounted... but I was informed that they would lose some of the small detail.( and for what it was going to cost to have them printed on canvas I really did want it perfect) I am incredibly impressed that company had the honesty and integrity to call before printing and sending what they felt would be a less than ideal final product !!!! So, I sent them out to be printed on a linen finish media which has gold/metal flake. That company sent me a notice the next day stating they were running a week behind...so I figured they would arrive after Christmas which would still be fine. I received them late in the afternoon on the 23rd. Off I go to have the mats custom cut , still figuring they wouldn't be done until after Christmas. I received a call at 9 am on the 24th saying the mats were done.. then the race begins to find frames and put everything together. I was so excited with the way they turned out!!! And Tim told me it was the best gift . Now each of the boys have original and unique wall art.
Sorry about the pics, but it's tough to get something decent without either the flash or my feet being reflected in the glass.

Well, there is definitely going to be a learning curve with the CS4! So far I've figured out there is no "undo" button. I just have to go to the menu or do Ctrl Z. It took me forever to figure out how to resize a photo. Finally figured out I had to check "show transform controls". Then figured out when I am transforming a photo, I have to hold down shift to constrain the proportions. PSE had a box to check for that and would always do it for me. This is what I've learned today! :yahoo: But I am excited to see what else it can do that PSE couldn't do. Drew had to come show me how to do a couple of things.
Those are gorgeous, Carolyn!

My thoughts & prayers are with you all for a happy, safe & blessed New Year for 2010 for you ALL *HUGS*

Last night DH and I went to Hartford to the Festival of Lights on Constitution Plaza so I could try to take some pics with the new camera using manual. It was 28F on the plaza. There was a wonderful falls of lights and I attempted to show movement but unsuccessful. We went on the bridge where we could see the cars entering the Interstate. DH looked at my Fstop and shutter speed and informed me politely that the Fstop was wrong I needed a smaller number. So then we tried that and guess what???? SUCCESS.....I was all excited!!! A photographer next to us just smiled ..... the light bulb had gone off for me.
Took a few more pics but then my fingers were getting sooooo cold I had to quit. Have to get some of those gloves that you can take the tips off and the rest of your hand stays covered if I want to take photos during the winter outside.

Hey all. I started to try to catch up, but gave up after about 100 pages from here. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.
I still have no computer. I have to get through the next few weeks and then we should have some extra cash to get a new lappie. I am going INSANE LOL I miss you guys so much. I don't know what to do with myself most days.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Years. I'll be checking in a bit tonight and tomorrow as I'm at my friend's house.
HEy Shana!! I haven't been able to keep up much lately either. I know you must be anxious to get a new computer. Happy New Year to you too.

Carolyn, since I see your light on: give me the exact make and model of the camera (kind of know this already) and the flash and I can email Marco for you! May take longer than you want though, soooooo.... NIKON D300 ( set to commander mode, TTL, using on-board flash as trigger) , Nikon SB600 off camera (set to TTL in the commander) ... question is: having both set at TTL, does the flash output the SAME amount of light as the commander or does it automatically adjust so that it ( the external) is fill flash? And once THAT is answered , I have a plethora of others... but I'm willing to start here LOL

Thanks Rene for inviting me to join a chat group :)
This was a bad time of the year for us as my beloved Father died on the 15/16 Dec 2001 & buried on the 20th - so that is now 8 years ago but when this time of year comes around it feels like just the other day  so this is always a sad time of the year for us... & :) to be amongst friends & family with :love1:
My thoughts & prayers are with you all for a happy, safe & blessed New Year for 2010 for you ALL *HUGS*Welcome to the gloriously goofy world of the Gundi's....
Carolyn I've tried and tried this but from my understanding I can't do this with the inboard flash as the master. For me I think I need another external as a master with another external as the slave. If you get it right please share :DFrom what I have read, Canon needs some type of PC cable... I am not sure exactly what kind....but if I run across the type I will let you know..
Jemima! So glad you are here! We "Gundi Girls" are very supportive, so you're in good company here. :) We get a bit rowdy at times, well not ME, but some of the others do.:rofl::rofl: We have fun and help each other out. Welcome!
I know what you mean about this time of year being difficult. I lost my parents in 2005 & 2006, so this time of year can be bittersweet for me too. I love Christmas, but not having my parents around is hard. It's funny that we should be talking about this today because just earlier today when I was out driving to an appointment I was thinking that so much exciting stuff is happening in my life that I wish I could call my mom and talk to her about it. :)
Anyway, welcome to the Gundi Girls! :tup:We lost my Dad on December 18, 2000... buried him on the 23rd and then had he annual family Christmas party on the 24th (the kids were still young enough to want it). Needless to say, my brother, mother and I hit " Papa's Punch" pretty hard and spent a great deal of time telling " Joe Stories" which proved to be the best thing we could have done.
Tonight we are having another set of friends come around to bring in the new year, so I've been preparing potato bake, butternut and sweet potato bake, broccoli salad, and stuffing peppedews with some Philedelphia cheese..... phew, hope it all gets eaten :rofl:I 'll send you my address and you can FedEx any leftovers...it all sounds so yummy !
Is it a speedlite... Niknon SB600
i'm having trouble with like the various settings - like when do you bounce it off the ceiling vs. the other settings... bouncing is very simple and the most common use. Bounce when you want to help eliminate directional shadows, add fill light to the main subject... etc.
I don't have a clue...
I know there are 3 settingsAre they TTL, TTL FILL and MANUAL?
Oh, Oh, and I have like "colored" plastic pieces to put in front of the flash to simulate say natural density (various colors) , and, some muted colors (like blue, green, red)... because every one told me at NAPP I just had to have them for my speed lite... so I bought them... - hey they weren't expensive - like $5.99 per pack...
but, what the heck or how the heck to you use them.. yes I know you cut them out and, how you stick them to the flash.. but, ok then what... Those gels are placed on the front of the speedlite to help balance/match the light coming out of the speedlight to the ambient light. For example, if your kitchen has florescent lighting, then you could put the blue gel over the speedlite to "match" the ambient light.
so, any speed lite tips you have, would be so much appreciated. Since, I've had it for over a year, and, well, let's say I've never ever used it.. except to make sure it works, and that the batteries are in right.
Hi Debi! I am still figuringout the whole speedlight thing too. I think partly cuz I want to make it more complicated like there must be more than just turning it on. LolThey ARE simple to use... TTL for full frame light.. TTL FILL to lend more light to the main subject...MANUAL if you want to drive your self nuts. LOL..
The difference here is that I am using the external completely OFF camera and using the camera's on-board flash as the "trigger" to make the external work.. The set up is simple but I'm having questions as to whether or not I should set the external to MANUAL adjustments or leave it at TTL just like I have the camera set... When I get the answers, I will definitely let you know.
But, medicare is unwilling to even pay for a shower seat or a hose from the shower to the shower seat for this diagnosis... don't know what they will pay for as far as PT.I am so sorry to hear about your mom.. and I hope the MDs get off their collective tushes and get with the plan ! This is definitely an awful thing to happen and even worse after your brother's diagnosis...

BUILT IN FLASH ............................. MODE ................... COMP
GROUP A
GROUP B
Under MODE, you set the BULIT IN FLASH for TTL
For GROUP A set for TTL
Set the channel to 3 ( this is the default for the sb600 and the channels must match.)
Now, on your speedlight, ( I don't need to tell you to turn it on first, do I ? ) press ZOOM and - at the same time for about 2 seconds. This brings you to the custom setting panel.. You should see a squiggle arrow and the word OFF... change it to ON. Press MODE and use the +/- button to set the channel to 3 (same as the camera) . Press MODE again and set the group to A ( again, just like in the camera..) Now you are all set..
Put the sb600 on a shelf/bureau, tilt the head however you want it, pop up the onboard flash, frame and shoot. And see what you get.
Just remember you need to manually reset the camera's flash settings back to default when you are done!!!! And to reset the flash, just press MODE and OFFbutton at the same time until it resets to default.

OK, here's Marco's answer!
For your friend. Have her make sure the SB-600 is set to Remote.
Next make sure the camera is set in the commander mode.
Camera Setting
Menu >
Custom Setting (Pencil Icon)>
e Bracketing/flash >
e3 Flash cntrl for built-in flash >
Commander mode
This will bring her to the Commander Mode screen. Here she can set the
controls for both the built-in light and the remote SB-600. This includes
setting the built-in light to TTL or to not fire during the exposure. In
the latter setting the built-in light acts only as a controller for the
remote and adds no light to the photograph.
While in this screen she can adjust the flash compensation for both the
built-in flash and the remote SB-600. With Comp. (flash compensation) set
to 0 for both flash the camera/flash system will attempt to balance the
light from both flashes. She needs to keep in mind that the SB-600 is more
powerful light than the built-in flash.
To have one of the flash act as a fill light she will need to dial in
negative flash compensation for that light, or dial in positive flash
compensation for the other, or both.
Here is a good primer on using the Nikon CLS:

OK, here's Marco's answer! Got it... thank you so much... and it did answer my main question... both the on board and the external will try to balance out the lighting when both are set to 0 compensation. That was my main question... I already had the set up correct.. I think it's just more of an issue of 'seeing' how I want the light to fall... and that's a matter of practice, practice practice... I wish now I had a very patient model on which to practice...

I really need to start a "Carolyn's Advice" File! Cos most of the time when I read these kinds of things I don't actually have the time to get the camera and do it as I'm reading it. Then by the time that I do get time to do it, its so far buried in the thread!

I'll be your model!!! :D.... ok so I looked on my Canon 50D for how to do this, but will obviously have to get the manual out! I have to admit that with my last attempt it was with my Canon 350D. But I'm guessing the 50D is more advanced, and I see some options for setting the flash and external flash, but when I go to the external flash settings it says it can't disply the menu cos some other setting hasn't been done. So need to dig out the manual.

here is the fruits of my experiments with the external flash off camera............here we have the flash laying on the floor (down and to the left) with the head tilted upwards... and the on camera flash is ON for fill flash. You can see the relection of the external on the lower part of the ornament on the right and the fill flash ( on board flash) is pointing towards the white bell)
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j237/mamamolar/DSC_0027.jpg
here is Miss Holly Pants... flash 7 feet to left and bounced off ceiling. On camera flash is on for fill flash. Also +1exposure comp added ( I consider shooting a white cat similar to shooting snow..) You can see the two points of light in the eye on the left... lighting this way gave some nice depth/modeling shadow around her face.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j237/mamamolar/DSC_0033.jpg
And in this final one, the external flash is on a lower branch slightly to the left and in front of the ornament...you can kind of see the direction of the light. Fill flash from the on board camera is off ( accounts for the much darker background.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j237/mamamolar/DSC_0025.jpg
So, using the external flash OFF CAMERA creates some interesting depth, shadowing and "modeling" of structure. In any of these images, had i used the external mounted ON the camera, the background would be far more visible...possibly creating some background distraction and flattening out the shapes of the ornaments....at least this is what I'm thinking/seeing.... I may be wrong.. What do you guys see???

Sands.. I had the maual for your camera and a speedlite open last night.. you can use a masterflash and a slave similarly to what I've done. You just need to make sure there is no obstacle between the master and the slave. ( clear line of sight) And yes, you can turn the Master flash off to have only the slave fire. To trigger your flash WITHOUT clear line of sight, you would definitely need some type of transreceiver ( pocket wizard, Radio Popper) which you would connect via a PC cord of some type.... i am not sure of the specifics.. but this is what my understanding is by just reading.

Hey, do you know, that we were watching the moon last night and we were convinced there was a part eclipse last night! When it first came up it was completely full, but for at least 2 or 3 hours, there was a chunk taken out of it.
I really need to start a "Carolyn's Advice" File! Cos most of the time when I read these kinds of things I don't actually have the time to get the camera and do it as I'm reading it. Then by the time that I do get time to do it, its so far buried in the thread!
Actually there was a lunar Eclipse as well! I tried to take the kids out to see it, but the view just wasn't all that good at the time we went out. And it was so cold they didn't want to stay long! We are experiencing 0 and below (F) again! I think this must be the coldest winter on record!
I already have one of those files, but it's PS stuff. Guess I should be collecting them for photography too! Of course, it won't get much use until I get a different camera. Even if I'd gotten to really see the Eclipse it was no use taking pictures (OK, I tried, but with the P&S it was a waste of time!)

OK, a question for you: On Kristie's D5000 it's real easy to turn off the flash when she's in a programmed mode, but I'll be darned if we could find how to do it when it's in manual. Darn thing pops up at the most inconvenient times and when you least want flash! Any ideas?

I took some of the full lunar eclipse and even with a 300mm range, I still had to enlarge significantly... and with the inherent noise involved with a long exposure ( even at iso 200) it sometimes seems a lesson in futility.

Darn thing pops up at the most inconvenient times and when you least want flash! Any ideas?Hmmmmmmmmmmm, that's odd .. I would think the opposite would be true... the flash would pop up when in a "mode" because the camera is dictating the exposure and telling the flash to fire. In manual, you set the camera according to the light meter using any variety/combination of shutter speed, aperture and iso to get correct exposure so the flash should not self pop and fire... Due to the location of the button to pop the flash and its sensitivity to pressure, it is VERY easy to inadvertantly bump it with your finger/knuckle/wrist when fiddling with the lens... if it pops up, you should just be able to push it down and it should stay down thus "shutting it off" . I only mention this becasue it has happened to me until I learned where to place my fingers.
Just checked her manual....and found this..
A Flash Modes
The flash modes listed on the previous page may combine one or more of the following
settings, as shown by the flash mode icon:
• AUTO (auto flash): When lighting is poor or subject is back lit, flash pops up automatically
when shutter-release button is pressed halfway and fires as required.
• Y (red-eye reduction): Use for portraits. Red-eye reduction lamp lights before flash fires,
reducing “red-eye.”
• j (off): Flash does not fire even when lighting is poor or subject is back-lit.
I'm thinking she still has the flash on AUTO rather than in the OFF position and/or does not have the light meter zeroed out while in manual .. . It's the only thing I can see by just browsing through the manual... it's so much easier to figure out hands on...

Good afternoon Gundi Girls! Hope everyone is having a great New Year's Day. Is everyone going to eat their black-eyed peas today?
We had a good time on our celebratory dinner last night (except my steak was way undercooked). I think we both were able to take a deep breath once the closing on the business was over yesterday morning. Not much really changes work-wise for Gary for the time being since he is under contract with the new owners for 6 months to a year, but the pressure and stress will be better for him. Next week will be pretty busy for me I think. I've got to work with the new owners to show them about all the invoicing for the customers and things like that. And I've got to get everything separated for the part of the business we are keeping. Once I get all that done, it will be lots less than before.
Today I am doing laundry and going to spend some time with my youngest DSD.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! :party::party::party:

Actually, there was no way I could have hit the button to make it pop! I had the thing sitting on my lap while I went through the menu. Then I just picked it up and pressed the shutter release to see what would happen and it popped on me. I hadn't planned on actually taking the picture except to see if I had it turned off. My left hand was actually jusy balancing the camera from underneath (I think). We will have to play with how she holds it and see if that makes a difference.

BTW: Flash settings include one for "rear". What does that mean? rear curtain sync... the flash fires at the END of the exposure rather than at the beginning. This allows the image to process with as much ambient light as possible and then the flash "fills" in the rest.. also used when taking long exposures of moving objects, says cars with lights on... makes the light streaks appear BEHIND the cars rather than in front of them.

Congrats!
Yeah, it had been in the works since June, but we didn't say anything about it until I think Dec because we really never believed it was going to happen. It just seemed too good to be true, ya know? The company that bought it had bought a business a friend of ours owned. One day last June Gary saw these people at the post office and on purpose said kinda jokingly "I'm just waiting for someone to buy me out". He said it hoping it would plant a seed. 2 weeks later, we got a call asking us if we'd be interested in selling. So it went from there with us giving them a price, then them looking at it all to see if they thought it was something they could do, then negotiations, etc. When we were in San Antonio for the GTG, they offered us what they said was their final amount and we said no, and gave them the absolute last amount we would take, they called the next day and said OK, so it's just been finalizing it all since then. We are beyond thrilled!

[B]So other than getting "rear movement", when else do I use rear sync? Another good time to use rear curtain is when you have beautiful light but it's just not "bright" enough.. Use the rear curtain which allows the natural/ambient light to expose the majority of the image and the flash fires at the end to complete the exposure. Very good for stationary shots/landscape/portraiture when you want to show the natural light while making sure the subject ( ususally in the foreground) is correctly exposed. ( does that make any sense? I think and do it better than I type/explain it. )

Ok, I really need to get off my butt and check this out! I just took it forgranted that I couldn't do it!
yes, you can do it,,, it's just a bit different set up for a Canon. With Canon, you MUST HAVE CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT between the master and slave flashes OR have some type of transreciever ( pocket wizard, Radio Popper) when clear line of sight is not possible. THE MASTER FLASH MUST BE ABLE TO DIRECTLY "SEE" THE SLAVE FLASH to trigger it OR it's triggered by radio frequency. Again, this is my understanding from what I have read. (I wish I had someone around here with a Canon cuz then I could play and be able to tell you better what you need to do/have for a basic set up.) Just with 1 pocket wizard mounted on your camera's hot shoe, you could place your external flash elsewhere and fire it AND be able to use the camera's TTL metering for correct exposure rather than do it manually.
Those are nice!
Lisa - see how you have the yellow square with the silhouette of Alaska on it? Up until I was in 5th grade, I thought Alaska was an island, because everytime I saw a photo of it, it looked like that. LOL.
Hey! I just saw that Chris' new masks are in the store!!! Yay!!! How much do you LOVE these? Check out the sweet angel wings on the middle scriptures mask. Too cute!

  I've been asked to take photos at an Omani wedding !!! The secretary of the school's sister is getting married. They need a female photographer since no man is allowed to see the women without their Abaya's on. Also no-one outside of the family are allowed to see the photos. I've not even been to an Omani wedding let alone seen what photos they have taken. Their weddings are not like ours! The women celebrate separately to the men and the husband comes and fetches his wife at the end of the celebrations! She insists she wants me to take the photos , so I'm going to have to ask to have a look at a wedding album.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SANDS, WHAT AN EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCE !!! I would think that BASICALLY there would be those MUST HAVE images just as ANY wedding would... if you can't see any album, then you just ask what ceremony shots etc are the MUST haves...and it would probably be a good idea to ask how the ceremony is conducted so you have an idea of WHEN those shots will be available. And jot them down on a list of some type... I would take formals with and without the Ababya if possible. ( don't know the customs/rules concerning them.. but I would think a female photographer would have the latitude to take both) After the must haves, then it's only a matter of the candids, the same as with any wedding. Venue shots, celebratory shots, formal bride, formal womens' group, ( mother of the bride, bridesmaids etc) , detail shots ( bridal gown, flowers, etc.) still your pretty basic standard stuff. But still getting a definitive idea of how the womens' ceremony is conducted will give you a better idea of what you need to do..AND YOU WILL DO FINE !!!!
You've been offered an exceptionally unique opportunity here; one which us "outsiders" would never experience. You are going to have such fun....and the same offer to help with any post work still stands if that is acceptable.

Yes, thanks, that makes perfect sense. I've always just ignored rear, because I didn't think I had a use for it. Next question... and probably a duh one... explain fill flash please.Fill flash is very simple. In essence it's a less powerful output of light used to make sure the subject is properly exposed.
For example: you are outdoors and your subject is sitting on a picnic table. You've chosen the picnic table becasue it's in open shade ( no HOT SPOTS from the sun). The background scenery is pretty brightly lit from sunshine so in essence your subject is backlit. If you meter on the subject ( in the shady area) your background will be blown out ( overexposed). If you meter the background, your subject may wind up in silhouette... so meter your background for perfect exposure and use your flash set to "fill flash" .... just enough light from the flash will "fill" in the subject WITHOUT overexposing your background. It's like getting the best of both worlds.
fill flash is my choice with portraiture as well.. Meter off your subjects and "bounce" the flash. This gives nice shaping to the face and catchlights in the eyes. (I am assuming here you have an external flash). By the way, this is a good time to use that rear curtain sync especially if you have beautiful natural light available. here is an example.. My settings were: ISO 400, f/6.3 in aperture priority mode. Large picture window with lots of diffused light are to the right. REAR curtain sync, fill flash set on external flash and flash angled up and to the left to open up any shadow areas on the left side of the face ( side away from window)
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30854124&l=96d85897ff&id=1076590219
Your camera is a very smart piece of equipment so don't make this any more difficult than it needs to be.. its TTL metering system AUTOMATICALLY adjusts the "power" of the flash for you based on your settings, your meter reading, iso etc. and powers the flash to send out enough light to correctly expose your metered area... of course, CREATIVELY it may not be precisely what YOU want, but it's a good starting point and you adjust if necessary from there....BUT GENERALLY SPEAKING, THE CAMERA'S TTL METERING SYSTEM MAKES A DANG GOOD DECISION. Typically , any adjustments I make are ususally changing the angle of the bounce.
It just typically takes a minute to "see" where your available light is and making your adjustments. We all see the light but generally DON'T think about it.
AND THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 'DUH" QUESTION... never ask.. never learn...

We have been really busy here!! I hope you all had a great New Years! We always have a party here and everyone's kids run wild and the adults play games and then some stay over since they live a couple hours away. So then we get up and have breakfast and play more games. It's totally fun, but wipes ya out. So I finally got the house cleaned last night after all that, it was pretty bad!!
Oldest DD starts basket ball today so we are really excited to watch her play. She really likes it and I always love watching any of my kids play anything.

That sounds like a blast!!! I must confess I am not a fan of New Year's Eve as holidays go. We don't go out, so it's mostly watching TV and trying to stay awake long enough to get a New Year's kiss before we go to bed. This year DD had a few friends over. She had a good time. DH, DS and I watched Angels and Demons, which was very good, before watching the ball drop.
Have fun watching basketball. This is the first year in probably 8 or 9 years that we don't have a kid playing basketball. But we enjoy the games so much we're planning to go to some of our church teams' games.

We just kinda forgot about it for awhile when my arm and shoulder started giving me so much problems, but I think I'll just do it without the swinging arm thing that's attached to it.

[B]OKAY! I'll come back and read this again when I have my camera with me, but... are you telling me the flash doesn't always fire the same amount of light? I thought it only adjusted if I used the flash compensation.
YES !!!!
The camera's metering system will tell the flash how much light to output to achieve a correct exposure... not all lighting is the EXACT SAME for any shot you take and the metering system adapts for each, individual frame you shoot based on avaialble light, chosen iso, aperture, shutter speed as well as for HOW you want the light metered.. full frame, center weighted or spot.
If the external is set to TTL FILL the camera will automatically make an adjustment to fire just enough light to correctly expose the subject.( the subject generally being more to the foreground in the frame. )
If the external is set to TTL , then the flash will fire with enough power to correctly expsose the ENTIRE frame.
If you take a shot of the same object using TTL and then TTL fill you can see the differences in the two images and you should be able to pull the exif data up on your LCD screen ... you should see the automatic compensation the camera makes listed there.. ( my camera does this and my D50 did it as well, so I'm thinking yours will too)
As far as manual exposure/ flash compenstation goes... this is an adjustment YOU as the photographer can change other than what the camera will make automatically. It gives YOU more control over how you want your final image to look...basically giving you CREATIVE control..
Again, and I cannot stress this enough... the cameras are very smart and will make the best possible decison based on your settings and that decision is usually a good one.. resulting in a pleasing, correctly exposed image- and ususally that's what we want. Job DONE.
But.. there are some times when you have a certain "look" you wish to achieve and using the compensation features allow you to override what the camera has decided.. allowing you to attain your CREATIVELY CORRECT image. Neither is wrong, just one may be more creatively/emotionally/artistically pleasing to you.

yes, you can do it,,, it's just a bit different set up for a Canon.
Thank you once again, for sitting with me last night to work this out on my camera. I'm going to talk to my friend this morning about lending me her external flash :).
Yes, they are supposed to bring good luck like Stichie said. Is that mostly a southern thing I wonder? Someone in my family who lived in Illinois told me a long time ago that they don't eat black-eyed peas up north because they thing they are only pig food.
Must be an American thing, I've never really heard that before!
We have been really busy here!! I hope you all had a great New Years! We always have a party here and everyone's kids run wild and the adults play games and then some stay over since they live a couple hours away. So then we get up and have breakfast and play more games. It's totally fun, but wipes ya out. So I finally got the house cleaned last night after all that, it was pretty bad
Oh that sounds like a great way to bring a New Year!
"and mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again..." (me singing out of tune...lalala)
Our school started yesterday again, and boy it was a relief!
And seeing as how I love to drive....sounds like a plan to me.. oh thank you for giving me even MORE ideas of places to go, things to do...like my list isn't LONG enough already.. ROTFL..
:think::think: IF we are still here, I'm hoping Oman is on the list too!
oh oh oh :wave::wave::wave: call on me my hand is raised........ Guess who lives by the Rocky Mountains? Guess what you see as you land in Salt Lake City? Guess? Guess? Guess!
:yikes::shocked: You didn't tell me that those were the Rocky's!!!!

Carolyn will have a hard time driving to Oman!
Too funny about the mountains. Yes we are on the west side of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is on the east side. The mountains on the east, (the ones you drove towards when leaving the airport before you got lost, oh and up where Draper temple's open house was) are the Wasatch mountains and the ones on the west, (the one's you can see from my front door) are the Oquirrh Mountains. I believe both are considered part of the Rocky Mountains range. I know for sure the Wasatch mountains are. The Rockies actually extend from up in Canada clear down, I think even into like Arizona. Oh and sledding. We were up in the Wasatch mountains when we went sledding.

ok here is a link to wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountains
They definitely say that the Wasatch mountains are part of it, can't tell for sure about the Oquirrhs (and for anybody unfamiliar w/ that word it is pronounced like O-ker) ;)

I wish I had time to catch up on everyone's posts, but I am so upset at DH (the "D" is in high question at the moment) that I just had to vent and knew my girls wouldn't mind, at least I hope you don't.
Why is it that I feel like I can never say anything right? Do any of the rest of you that are married feel that way? Dan and I have not really had the best last year and so far 2010 isn't going that much better. Tonight's argument started over something as silly as paint. I don't know if I told you all or not, but about a little over a month ago, right after Thanksgiving actually, he thought he would be "helpful" I guess and paint the areas in the living room that where we had the drywall fixed. We'd planned already on repainting the living room because of getting the drywall fixed, but the weekend we were going to do it, something else came up. So the next weekend which just happened to be right after Thanksgiving, while I was otherwise preoccupied with something (or laying down with a headache, I don't remember which now) he up and starts painting. Now this would have been okay had he just done what we had talked about and agreed on and "paint patch" over the areas that were fixed since the paint we ended up getting was a different white than what was already on the wall. No, instead he decided to see how far he could get with only a quart size can of paint and it looked like a 4 year old had come in and haphazardly painted all over the walls. As Lisa can attest, it looks like I have a two toned living room. So thus there was argument one over this whole mess.
Now here is where argument two comes in (well, really three. Argument two had to do with him getting everything out for Christmas like I had asked, but not helping to decorate and when I asked why he said "because I don't see any point in putting up the tree till we paint"...grrrrr....). I was adamant about getting everything fixed back up to looking right by no later than this coming Monday. We went to get the paint tonight. I admit that I got sidetracked with looking at different colors other than what we tried out this morning on the wall and both mutually agreed to one. However, we both agreed to try these two other colors (one for the wall and one for the trim). He wanted to start with the mud room so that if I didn't like it then we could change things around. Well, after he did a small sample, I wasn't sure I liked it and when I asked him what his plan was if I didn't like it. His response was that he was going to paint the whole living room that color anyways. Then he storms out of the bedroom after I make a comment back, like he didn't know that was going to happen! Needless to say, he knows how to push my buttons! As Lisa can already attest as well, his maturity level definitely is something not to aspire to to say the least.
Sorry for the long post, but I just really needed to vent. I know Lisa knows more about what all has been going on, but since I am now contemplating options and our future together I just needed to vent. It goes way beyond the paint, this just seemed to really push me over the edge. Oh, that and pretty much making me feel stupid last night when I wasn't really getting his explanation of using the Bulb setting on my camera because of how many times he was having to "explain" it to me. I wanted to say "well if you would explain it in a way that Lisa does then I would get it!" Ugh....MEN!
Thanks for listening ladies.

You know I think ALL marriages go thru some trials like that...
But, with my DH - we find that if we just both cool down...
And, sit down.. (sometimes a while later) and really talk it out.. we really find out what it really is that is bugging the other person - and I bet it isn't the paint.
We tried counseling one time... that was so WRONG for us... that dude needed help on sooo many levels...
we felt better about ourselves when we left his office.
But, really, talking it out works best for us.
and, our rules are
let each one say exactly what they want to say - without interruption from the other
and, then we can discuss...
It seems to work for us.. and, then we really try to put our marriage back on track again... and, try to really, really focus on us..
and, make a plan for more date nites, and, other "just couple" activites.
it's worked for - oh, april - 28 years....

BULB SETTING': the shutter stays open as long as you hold the shutter release button down. would need to have the mirror locked up to prevent shake... tripod mounted and use a cable release...
