He is doing a lot better today. The doctor said it will take a few weeks for it to get better and then if he hits it after that, he'll probably freak out a bit. :)
That's what I'm thinking. AND I'm not sure if I mentioned it yet, that my DH needs a knee replacement.:eek::eek:
I agree, they are WAY too organized!
No it was my 5 year old.
You can come clean my bathrooms!
So I got up this morning and did my running. It has been so much better since I have been getting up early. I haven't lost any weight, BUT I can fit into some pants that I couldn't before. So something is happening.
oddly i am on hold with my insurance co. as i am typing...
well, I have to say I'm am sorry that your "big boy" got hurt, but I am glad to hear it wasn't your baby. He's just been through enough. Bummer about the impending knee surgery.
Good for you with your exercising and loose pants!!!! :yippee: I've been doing the running. I like doing it the BFL way. I haven't been doing the strength training though. I did lower body one day and I just don't think my knees can take it. Might do upper body today though.
and ummm.... no thanks on cleaning your bathrooms, mine are enough. :p

Yay for fitting into the pants! Boo for the knee replacement surgery. That's a pretty serious recovery period, isn't it?
I think one of the things I will use the most when I get things all organized in Bridge is to be able to seach by color. I do that all the time now but it doesn't work very well in My Documents because the pieces are often not labeled as blue or whatever. Like when I did the Crazy Chick red resolution challenge I literally looked thru every kit of Chris' and Nicole's that I thouhgt had any piece of red in it and that took forever.

Not sure how long the recovery is. He has no ACL, arthritis and bone spurs. The doctor was shocked he could even get around. So he told him to wait as long as he could because with DH being so young, he'd need another one before he died. So we are just going to wait and see how long that is.
Ohhh your brave Rene.... I haven't ever colored my hair. Im way chicken!
Come on Laura, you can do it!! The only reason I started so young was because I have the family curse of pre-mature graying. :(

A childhood friend of mine has passed away. She apparently had a tough life from dealing with something that happened to us when we were younger. She attempted suicide several times and was in and out of therapy to help deal with the issue, but it was too much for her and she took her life a few days ago. Although I haven't had communication with her for a veryyyyyyyyyyy long time (I had to recover and move on and her not being able to do that was dragging me down), I'd like to send some flowers. Our two families were extremely close my entire childhood and I'd like to let them know I'm thinking of them during this difficult time for them. So I have a question I need help with.....
In her notice it says that they are having "Mom and Dad Services".... what is that? I have honestly never heard of that.
They are catholic and are having MANY types of services... Rosary, Mom and Dad, Reading, a Viewing, Cemetery side... and the list goes on.
So.... where do I send my flowers to, I mean I have all of the churches and cemetery and mortuary info... but to WHICH service is appropriate under these circumstances?
WHO do I address them to.... to the parents... to the family... to her... to her lifelong companion (who I never met and have no idea who he is except his name)....???
Any insight you care to share with me so I don't totally make a butt out of myself would be really appreciated. The first services start Friday night and continue on to Monday night.

So sorry to hear about this. Hopefully someone else will come along and give you the advice you're looking for. I am no good at this sort of thing. I have never heard of a Mom and Dad service either. Maybe send the flowers to her parents since you were close with them when you were younger. And sometimes the florist can help you decide where to send the flowers.

I agree with this Stitchmich that the florist can help decide - but if you were very close to your friend (sympathies go out to you  ) send them to her parents & place her name on it too... that covers her family & your dear friend - all the best with your decision... ;)

Well, I think my hair turned out good. I like it anyway. It's not a HUGE change, just a little more light brown as opposed to red. The reason G always freaks out is because one day when we were dating, I came home with really dark brown hair - almost black. It's the one time he out and out said he didn't like it. :D I didn't think it was that bad, but it was pretty drastic.
Laura, I am so sorry about your friend. I have never heard of a Mom and Dad service either, but I'm not Catholic. I would think you would send flowers to her family since they are the ones you knew. I think where you send them is a matter of preference. I think they can be sent to either the family's home or the church.

I am trying to get caught up from all of your gabbiness. :D Looks like you are making up for lost time. but before I go do the Thursday insanity (which this week we are adding a dance performance for dd1 and swimming lessons for ds2, to the already overflowing schedule) I had to pipe up about the smart collections thing.
On some of the stuff you guys are doing THERE IS AN EASIER WAY!!!!! Do I have your attn now. :D
Specifically on getting all of the previews together, don't use keywords because YOU have to add those in order for the kit to show up in your collection. Do this:
file name contains 73_
file name does not contain Contact
This will grab all of my previews and it will keep updating every time you add something to your dsp folder, even if you have NOT updated the keywords. Every designer has a number, mine as I am sure you have realized, is 73_. So in every product I have, there are two files that have the 73_ in the file name, the preview and the contact sheet. I add _Contact at the end of the preview's name to save my Contact Sheet, so doing does not contain, gets rid of those.
If you want to collect all of your BG's just do
file name contains BG
file type is jpg
Try to look at the formats that we use consistently and use those FIRST, no sense in going thru and keywording stuff you don't have to.
Like overlays are pngs w/ O_
You will probably notice if you have some of the older stuff that it is not consistent cuz of course we have evolved, but at least the last few years, we have all tried to be consistent in our naming so that makes it easier for you. :D The more you can collect based on the file name and not the keyword, the less work for you! :yippee:

Again, in English, please! :D
I may be able to suggest a Quicken fix! Your main Quicken data file is under the applications folder. However, Quicken always does it's own Backup file and places it in a folder under Documents. Try going to the backup file and opening it. If that works (98% of the time it does), close Quicken. Copy the backup to the Application folder with the original file name (usually just Quicken Data.qdfm). Reopen Quicken and do File > Open so that you are reopening the file under the Application folder (other wise it opens the last file and you don't want that or you won't get good backups).
HTH!

OK, I just have to say: first off being 40 and not having grey is a blessing, believe me! I had a grey streak down the back by the time I was 22, and my poor kid sister was nearly totally grey by 30, older sister well before 30. (mine slowed and I am only now seeing more grey than other). I did color my hair for years. Some times myself and others at the salon. But kind of got bad at keeping it up when I got pregnant and couldn't tolerate the smell. Did it once or twice between the boys and DD, but haven't done it now since getting pregnant with her and she turns 4 in just over a month. Any way, I don't think it is an all or nothing deal. It really only takes a year and a couple of good cuts to remove it, and if that frightens you too much, give a thought to doing the kind that washes out. Talk to your stylist and have some fun!

I started using semi-permanent so it washes out. You can't really go lighter that way though, just same or darker. But it does cover the greys. My hair is dark, so when the greys started coming in they were very noticable even if not very many of them. I've been coloring mine so long I might be surprised to find out how grey I am now.

But anything you send, I would send to their house as you were personally close to them . This way, you can also enclose a personal message to them specifically should you so choose.
This is such a difficult situation for the family to bear and a kind message from you I'm sure would be appreciated.

We are about to leave to take the kids to Cloudcroft for their Christmas trip. I've already had drama this morning. I picked up my dry cleaning yesterday because they had a jacket I wanted to wear today. Didn't check it when I picked it up, so got up this morning and was going to put it on but it wasn't there. Finally 2 hours later, they finally found it, so am going to pick it up and put it on, on the way out of town.
I'm really looking forward to this trip with the kids. It will be the first time since 2003 we've all 5 taken a trip together. Yay!
Hopefully I will get some cool shots of the kids snow tubing! Wish me luck!

I started using semi-permanent so it washes out. You can't really go lighter that way though, just same or darker. But it does cover the greys. My hair is dark, so when the greys started coming in they were very noticable even if not very many of them. I've been coloring mine so long I might be surprised to find out how grey I am now.
Mine is dark also and all my gray are in the part and my bangs! :annoyed: Can't they come in the back first??
I color mine every 4 weeks.. semi permanent...and I have no grays.. just like to play.
I'm so jealous!
as a matter of fact, I just got back from having my hair done and I am currently an ashy caramel cinnamon with spikes all over my head. And me with ZERO hair skills, it will NEVER look like this again... unless I have Robin do it for me. How DID I manage to give birth to a daughter with hair skills up the wazoo?? LOL
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Gary liked my hair! But I'm wondering if the reason is not so much that he likes the color, but that it's styled a bit like Sarah Palin and I'm wearing my glasses! Hmmmmm....:rofl:
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Thanks for the posts regarding my childhood friend, ladies. I ended up sending her family a large Peace Lily, to the house. I chose it because she loves lily and she loved planting/gardening. My parents are picking up flowers for me and taking them to the graveside service. I'd like to attend, but I just don't think it's a good idea for so many reasons. I'll let my parents take care of it. :-)
Glad you have that taken care of!
I'll miss you guys! :love3:
Have fun and glad it all worked out this morning.

All of that stuff didn't make sense to me either Crys till I sat down with it yesterday and worked on it.
Part of the trouble is that it's me! ;) The other part is that I have CS3, which isn't as advanced. :D
Crys, do you use CS4 bridge? if you do I'll send you screen prints
Nope, see above. And a very wise woman suggested I wait to upgrade when CS5 comes out! ;)
thats okay, the wagon has many wheels that make it turn... doesn't have to be bridge :-)
I am so not an organized person. Im actually very disorganized..... I keep am extremely clean house but with messy record keeping... LOL. My dsp supplies are way more organized than anything else in my life. HAHAHAHA!!!
I have two kits that are pretty organized!
HTH!
Bless your heart, Lisa. I've copied this and will sit down this weekend and see if I can find anything reasonbly recent. (Part of the trouble might be the loss of my old EHD and installing the new one! :() Wish me luck!! :help: :help:

I started with that grey patch in the front when I was 26. And it WOULD NOT take color. So...I've just never bothered!  :yikes:
If I understand right, she's saying make a Smart Collection for each individual designer, and another SC for overlays. So there would be a SC for Chris, a SC for Tina, a SC for overlays, etc. Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?
I'm sure they will love and appreciate it Laura.
I know this may not be a popular thing to say, but personally, I like Sarah Palin.
I like her too! :D

I KNOW exactly what you went through. My DH is such a snacker and just loves to buy *treats* for the grandkids. 4 of them maintain a pretty healthy diet, thanks to their parents, but DH is allowed to bring junk to the kids. (Matter of fact, at one point they started calling him *Grandpa Snacks*!) So...
When we had the boys' birthday swim party last Sept., Grandpa brought cookies and brownies. After a full day of swimming, we had a late night pizza party, followed by desserts.
We had a connecting room with DS#2 and family, so we could share our beds with them. Rutker, 4, got to sleep with Grandma. Only, between the cookies and brownies, he was wired to the max.    Our room had a balcony, which overlooked the indoor swimming pool of the *regular* part of the hotel. (vs. the Water Park area) I'll bet that kid was up eighty-eleven times looking out those patio doors. And while he was in bed, it was blabber...blabber...blabber...I thought he was NEVER going to sleep. I think it was around 12:30 am before he finally bit the dust.
Because it was a grandson, it was kind of cute and funny...but still...
Grandpa ever does that again late at night, and guess who the kid's going to sleep with? :annoyed: :annoyed:

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP HURTING MY CARS?!!!! ugggggghhh
I knew there was a reason we don't drive J to school. He air was way yuck and my hair was still wet from swimming so we were just going to drive. As I was backing out of my driveway I see the neighbor across the street also backing up andwe r getting close so I hurry and stop and think he is not stopping! Forward forward must....crunch too late! So my entire back window shattered and the hatch is dented tail light is broken and bumper is dinged. This was on the van not the truck but seriously? What am I doing wrong?!!! Good news nobody was hurt and he has insurance. Sigh

Sarah Palin - no comment!
Spikes - still waiting to see those!
Color - ahhhh! Been so long since it was other than grey, but since DH likes it this way I think I will stick with it (much less hassle and cheaper too!) Although I do really need a good cut.well,,, it's the next day and the spikes are flat !

I have a question... I got PSE7 with my tablet but have never installed it since I use PSP. Does PSE use actions? And if I installed it, would it eat up my computer resources running both? (idk if that is a silly question or not) And more importantly would it be confusing to my little brain to try to use both?

Love the pictures, Sandy!!! The little anemone fish in the bubble patch is too cute and I love Nemo's Christmas tree. hehehe. So when you say it's a large nudibranch, what does that mean? How big are they? And big are seahorses?
Well the first nudibranch, the orange, with black and white was only about 1.5" long, the large one was 6" long. The sea horse from top of his head to his tail was probably close to 8". There are smaller sea horses but we've only ever seen the big ones here.
Only the last 3 work for me Sands.... but gosh are those soooo dang cool!! Makes me wanna learn to scuba dive..... sigh
Maybe if you do a hard refresh (CTL+F5 together) they will show up. It could have been me that messed with your cache since I deleted the images so the links didn't work. Cos I'm guessing that everyone else saw them.

(idk if that is a silly question or not) And more importantly would it be confusing to my little brain to try to use both?Yes, there are some actions which work with PSE. Be aware that I had used PSE5 and any actions that worked with that were labeled as such, but they were not as plentiful as those made for PS. And depending upon how many windows you have open, the size of the files in use and the amount of available RAM in your machine, yes, running both could chew a big hole in your computer resources.

Hi guys! Well, I got to stop by and read yesterday, but never got to post anything!
Sands - great pics again. I love showing them to the kids, and they love that you label everything.
Chris - Yikes! I sure hope Carolyn is right and this fulfills the 3s!
I spent all morning out with the kids. We did grocery shopping, stopped by the "school" to drop off receipts, and then went to the library. Tried to do more shopping, but the boys were in no mood! So, we went and got DH and I dropped him and the kids at home and went back out. I got home about 8:30 last night and was too tired and sore to even think about the computer. Went to bed really early (for me lately that is). Well, one of my purchases was a new shredder. The old one got dropped during the move prep last year and shattered. Costco had one that does up to 10 sheets, CCs, CDs and the old 3.5 floppies (could have used that last spring, let me tell you). It was only $50 and then I had a coupon for $10 off that! I'm totally thrilled because I used my old shredder all the time. I have already had to dump the little basket 2ce!
OK, off to lunch and then back to work after that. I need to get at least 5 valentines cards designed and off to the store today!
Hugs all!

Yesterday DH and I decided to go out and take some photos with our new cameras. I've made LOs of Kent Falls, a state park in CT, in the summer with the grands swimming and the fall foliage but had never gone there in the winter. An awesome sight!!!! A guy was going to ice climb the falls ... gives you an idea of how thick the ice on the falls was.

most of my overlays begin with ELEMENT_OVELAY....
AND, Previews within Club kits - the designer name has a D in front of the designer number so Christine your's is D73..
this is true, but it does still have the 73_ in it so it will still pick up. Hmmmm really on the overlays? I thought everyone did them like me. LOL
Christine
01-16-2010, 10:47 PM
wouldn't that take more time though Christine, having to go through each designer separately? A quick search for "overlay" grabbed nearly all of mine. I clicked on the first, held down shift and clicked on the last .... all were highlighted and I clicked on my keyword "overlay" and they were all done at once, from all designers.
Or did I totally misunderstand? Which is normally the issue... lol
you don't have to include the designer part, I thought you said you had each designers previews separated out, but yeah w/ or w/o the designer number will work. The big advantage is if you do what you can w/ file name when you add a new kit, you will automatically have it added to the SC, whether or not you have had time to keyword

I know!!! I have never been around when tempered glass shattered. I was amazed how loud it was and how it just shattered into a billion pieces. Spent most of the day getting the insurance contacted and the car into the shop. They gave us a rental car too, so yay for that. They started out trying to give me an "economy" car, but I said hey I HAVE to have 7 seats. I have 4 kids and a car pool when I need 7 seats. They were really good to authorize it w/o any fuss. It is going to be at least a week before I get my van back. :( The kids hope it will be longer cuz they like the new van. (It has automatic doors so they don't have to close it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

OK, off to lunch and then back to work after that. I need to get at least 5 valentines cards designed and off to the store today!
Hugs all!
Thanks I hope so too! So what are you doing w/ the valentines cards etc? I think I missed this, go back. :D
I guess I don't have quite enough to do, I decided that I needed to go through and redo my recipes in my recipe box. I am color coding them (just printing them on colored card stock) so all of the entrees are one color, breakfast foods another etc. My kids just stick them any old place, plus they have spilled on them and use them to even out a cup of flour or sugar or whatever. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed: So they are in bad shape. I am hoping that if they have a green card in their hand they can figure out that it goes w/ the other green ones.

you don't have to include the designer part, I thought you said you had each designers previews separated out, but yeah w/ or w/o the designer number will work. The big advantage is if you do what you can w/ file name when you add a new kit, you will automatically have it added to the SC, whether or not you have had time to keyword
Nooo I have a smart collection for each designer.... but then I also have ONE smart collection for ALL previews, regardless of the designer. Easier for me to look in one collection to location something to start a LO with, this way.

Sorry I missed chat today, Lisa. My keyboard and mouse quit on me. I don't know what happened but it took a while to get them back.
I have to share... this may have been a "duh moment" for some but for me it was a scrapbook revelation, epiphany even! I discovered "snap to grid"! I know, duh, right? I've used Snap to Guides before but somehow I missed out on snap to grid. My life will never be the same! I can't wait to post my YIR pages that I've been whipping up. I did install PSE and spent several hours playing with it on Saturday. I don't think I'll use it regularly, but I'm going to leave it installed and may play with it some. I downloaded and installed a few free actions. I have to say I do love Ctrl-G in PSE. AND I am realizing why Chris did that shortcut series. I spent a lot of time searching for commands. In PSP I have custom toolbars with buttons for all the thing I do a lot. I don't think I can ever switch over from PSP cuz I can't give up my buttons.
Okay enough rambling...
Lisa, what do you mean about getting cards designed and off to the store?
Chris... recipe organizing... do you not have enough to do? Wow, you never cease to amaze me.
Tablet question... I used to have a little pop-up thingy when I had a cursor for inputing text that I could write in a space instead of type, but I don't have it now. Was that a vista thing? My Wacom menu has a tab for Pop-Up menu but I don't understand it. help?

Sorry you missed it too! We had lots of fun and talked about all kinds of yummy food! We even had 2 newbies (although one didn't stick around long).
OK, first let me say I have done nothing with the valentine's cards. Second, I'm going to try and create a few and see if they sell. Another member has been making money at it, and although I think she has better design skills, I think if I keep them simple, cards aren't nearly as intimidating as kits. So, I'm trying. Only problem is, this timeline thing has taken nearly every minute of my computer time for the last 2 weeks trying to get the LOs just right and then figuring out how to print them so they are 300 pages, but only 150 (well almost. I think the actual page count is 123 or something without blanks that can be inserted where you need extras.) Well, since the books are finally printing (as I type) I may try tomorrow to get something done. Today, I'm gonna play.

Wish me luckkkk... I have volunteered to be one of the bus drivers today for 23 soccer girls.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our paid drivers aren't allowed any overtime due to budget cuts and well, not many others can drive the bus, or are approved to, and really who is dumb enough to volunteer to spend an entire saturday driving about 3 hours from home with 23 girls?!!!
GOOD LUCK!!

OK, still no cards to show any one! Now as to where, if I can make some worth sharing, there is a site that another DSP member turned me on to that you create digital cards and they sell them. They do all the printing, shipping, and other business type stuff, I just create, upload and, hopefully, collect my fee (as much as 56 cents per card). Of course, I have to do all the artwork myself as I don't have commercial licenses for any of the kits, but if I actually start making money I might buy some actions and things to help with the process. And, since I have never counted myself as an artist, I seem to be having a hard time "creating". So, how do I tell myself that I can do this?! Come on, waiting for suggestions!!!!! (Oh, not including a link as I don't want to break the rules, but the site is Card Universe.)
I have some information about the time line on my blog if you are interested. Basically, it's a book of blank pages, divided into sections with topics down the side (history & politics, Notable men & women, Art/Music/Literature, Religion/Philosophy, and Inventions/Technology) and years across the top. As the kids read about different events/people, etc., they fill in the info on the appropriate page helping them to track those events/people through time. They can fill in with pictures or stickers as well as little notes making this a truly visual method of putting history into perspective. I've always been fascinated with time lines as I am, in part, a visual learner. Since this is something that will follow them throughout their schooling, I really wanted to put some time making them right. FYI: There are 126 printed pages, not including those I'm putting in that have no dates in case we need extra room for anything.
HTH!

Stitch- what is the snap to grid?SNAP TO GRID.. you put up the grid lines and any line you draw will automatically "snap" in line with the nearest grid line... thus keeping everything straight.

Stitch, what are the snap to guides?
Stitch- what is the snap to grid?
snap is awesome if you have your grid or your guidelines turned on and snap checked (both found in View) when you draw like a rectangle w/ your selection, it will "snap" to the lines. Also it is awesome if you are dragging pics or whatever and want them to be lined up
Look under the View menu, and check grid, then at the bottomof the view menu check snap to grid. That's what I see in PSE7. But here's a question... in PSE, once I have made a selection, can I promote that selection to a layer?
in PS it is ctrl+j if you want to leave the old layer alone and ctrl+shift+j if you want to cut out the new layer so the old layer now has a hole in it

I'm so glad I did that, so I have a journal of what happened. It's still really hard for me to think about, but I need to do a book about it so I won't forget anything and have that as a journal for him. It won't be real to him unless he can see it and read about it. So that is my project for scrapping and hopefully that will get me going again!!

Heather - I hope getting it all down will help you let go a bit! I can only imagine how hard the whole thing was for you, but it will feel good when you finally let it be in the past.
Chris - Wow! I'm amazed! 52 seconds? You go girl!
Stitch - PSE is gonna hook you and then your just gonna have to come on over to the Light side and get PS!
OK, I've done absolutely nothing today! (not entirely true as I am trying to do laundry) Since DH was off yesterday, we took some time and went to get the kids their second H1N1 shots. I realized that the clinic never called like they were supposed to and that we never got those boosters done. Well, they are now giving the shots to everybody, so I got mine too. I had my regular flu shot in early October, so a long time ago. Any way, I feel miserable today! Achy and was feverish most of last night. I'm sure it's the shot as DH said he felt the same way. I just hope I get over this quick as he proceeded right into that chest thing the kids and I had a while back. I sure don't need that again! Anyway, I declared today a sick day and no school.
Hugs all!
Oh, and Carolyn - I'm checking that site next!

I'm going to check out that action site too. I don't know that I'll ever teach myself PSE but I might if I find some actions I love.
HEather look under the view menu for snap to grid and then draw a rectangle with the marquee tool. you'll see what it does. It's very handy when making grid style layouts.
ACTIONS designed for PSE will be labeled as such and it will tell you the version of PSE it/they were designed to work with.

:hug::hug::hug::hug: :( Sorry stitch
snap is awesome if you have your grid or your guidelines turned on and snap checked (both found in View) when you draw like a rectangle w/ your selection, it will "snap" to the lines. Also it is awesome if you are dragging pics or whatever and want them to be lined up
in PS it is ctrl+j if you want to leave the old layer alone and ctrl+shift+j if you want to cut out the new layer so the old layer now has a hole in it
:yippee::yippee::yippee::yippee: Yay Rene is back!

My back porch light was out for say 2 weeks. Apparently this is something only wives notice. After finally bringing it to his attention, he *tries* to change the bulb, but cannot get the fixture off. Suddenly, his hands/fingers are just too big for the space. "Can you show/tell me what to do and I will try to get it off." "Oh no, you couldn't possibly do it", he replies. Each morning as I leave for work, he promises to get to it that day. Each evening when I come home, still no light. This goes on for another 3-4 days.
Finally, one evening we're both in the kitchen together and I ask if he can't please take a little time and see if he can get the issue resolved. Five minutes later, I have light! Seems he was trying to loosen the fixture with his fingers; it as held on by slotted screws.
Note to self: "Remind hubby to put on his glasses before he starts a project."

So here's how our trip went:
We got to our cabin - which was really cool. Drew immediately found the plastic sleds and decided we should all go sledding down the driveway. Of course the girls weren't too keen on this idea, but when they figured out we were all going to do it, they put their boots on and went too. The driveway was solid ice - we couldn't even get the 4 wheel drive SUV up it. So we all sledded down the hill and had fun. Then Gary and Drw decide to go to the top of the hill and slide all the way down it onto the street. Drew did it first, no problems. Then Gary does it, but when he goes off the foot and 1/2 drop off from the hill to the street, he is sitting too far back on the sled and lands really hard right on his tailbone. He just layed there for a bit. I think he bruised it really bad. So he was in pain the rest of the trip, but he didn't let it slow him down too much.
So we go into town and eat burgers and stop off at the merchantile type store for a homemade pie. Then we watch our fav movie Tombstone where we can all recited lines from it because we've seen it so much.
Saturday we drove over to Ruidoso and looked around at the Inn of the Mountain Gods and then went to eat at a cute sandwich shop, then we went tubing. That was fun, although it was super crowded. The girls have decided that they would like to try skiing next time (they had previously said they would NEVER do that!). So I know what they are all getting for Christmas next year! :D
That night we went to The Lodge in Cloudcroft for dinner. It was so yummy. Gary and I had peaches flambee that they cooked at our table. It was so good!
Sunday, Gary, Drew and I went for a drive in the mountains and took some photos while the girls slept late. Then we spent the rest of the day having a board game tournament and eating homemade stew. It was such a great weekend with all the kids. So much fun!
Oh, and after G got hurt, we started calling the mountain Broke Butt Mountain.:rofl:

I tell him I'm calling the landlord and if he thinks it's something he should do, it embarasses him into doing it. Of course that never worked in the house we owned, but it's working miracles now!

I have to chime in here. If I ask DH to do something, he always says ok, but then he never does it. If I don't say something, it never gets done. If I DO say something, like, "No pressure here - but could you give me some kind of time frame for when you think you are going to get it done?" Then he gets his britches in a twist and flies out the chair and says, "Fine! I will do it right now." Grrrrrr........

Okay this is so odd....
At Christmas time I ordered some of DD's presents at a retail store's website. There were 6 items, and they totaled to be a little over 325.00. I received the items and they were given to DD on Christmas morning. Everything was perfectly fine with them, so no need to return or exchange them. The items are here at home. However, today I received an email from the website which I ordered those items from. They indicated that they received my returned items and have refunded the total amount 325-ish to the credit card which was used to purchase the items. They list the items that are being refunded.
I call them and explain that while I wouldn't mind having 'free' money given to me, it wouldn't be very honest of me to keep it as I have the items here in my home and have never returned them... never even inquired about returning the items. The guy was very pleasant, but insisted that they received all the items back from me and the credit has been made to my credit card that was used for the purchase. He again went over each item, one by one, as to what they received back from me. But I swear on my life I have the items right here! LOL! But they won't listen to me. I mean c'mon now, if I really sent them back then yes I'd want my money... but if I didn't send them back and Im telling you to keep your money, why are you insisting on giving me the money?!

So frustrating....
What can you do? What can you do? First - don't be frustrated, be glad they didn't charge you double! If they won't listen, it's totally their fault, but I would consider recording the call to make sure they don't try to charge me later.

I ordered wine for my brother, and 2 beautiful bracelets for my mother and MIL. They sent the wine to my brother, a bracelet to my MIL, a bracelet to my mother, 2 bracelets to MY BROTHER, and 2 bracelets to ME. That's 4 extra bracelets. My DH tried to talk to them, but they assured him that it was "all taken care of." How nice! Why yes, I do love my new bracelets, thank you very much.

Drats, We won't get our new faucet until MONDAY! And Tuesday guess what is BOWLING DAY! I hope they deliver it EARLY IN THE Day...
But, The good news is - I finally got him to start cleaning out his darn garage.. who knows what is in there.. it's really scary in that place..
We cannot clean out our garage after the first snow. Once it snows, all the mice move into the garage (guess they want to get in out of the cold)....we don't move anything in there unless we have to. Isn't that disgusting?

but, it freezes most nights
our mice and some CUTE other critters go to the attic
we have a ton of mouse bait and those - umm, traps for the bigger critters..
we can hear them go off, and, then we go set them free.. way, way far away from us..
Because we have a ton of stuff stored in our attic.. .and, no little mice or yuck bigger stuff is going to be eating or bedding into our stuff..

We used to buy nyger seed at a nearby store. We dipped our own from a *bulk* barrel and purchased 20# at a time. Ond day we made our purchase, went to check out and the cashier charged us for one pound. "Miss", I said. "You've only charged us for one pound and we've got 20#!" And she rectified the situation.
Somewhat later we returned to the same store, dipped our 20#, went to check out and experienced the exact same result, and conversation.
The third time we went through this scenario (after all, goldfinches and doves eat A LOT OF NYGER SEED! ;)), the results were quite different. This time after being charged for only one pound, I walked out the door with a smile on my face!

Well at least you know how to get him to do it

Hello girls! Those are some funny DH stories! We have mice occasionally in our garage too. A couple months ago, there was a baby mouse all by himself, he was ALMOST cute, but not quite. :D
Some electric company cut a fiber and I've had no internet or phone service all day. Don't know when it's gonna get fixed. :( So I'm using the wireless internet phone card on the lappie.
Maybe I should go and start cleaning out my closet and box up some stuff to give to charity. That would be productive.
Tonight we go to see the Wizard of Oz play. It's part of the traveling Broadway plays that we have season tickets to. It should be fun.

We have an organization near here called the MERCI center, that does disaster relief organization. They take donations, organize and deliver supplies to places needing disaster relief and use volunteers from local churches. They are currently packing and shipping supplies to Haiti. I took a van load of teenagers to work in the warehouse this morning. I thought we'd be packing boxes or something, but mostly we were cataloging and inventorying pallets of already packed supplies and getting them ready to ship out. We were in this huge warehouse and it was cold and wet outside so we were pretty cold. I've been home a couple of hours and I still can't get warm. I was glad to do something to help though.

I don't know, Rene. Here we have UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief. Between them and the Merci center which is also connected to the Methodist church, I know that donations are going directly to areas in need. I was amazed at the pallets of medical supplies they were shipping out today. It seems like there was so much stuff there to be sent to Haiti, yet I can wrap my brain around the magnitude of the disaster and the need there.

Michelle - it's so nice to read about people helping. Sometimes wish there was more I could do.
Chris - WooHoo! You're gonna be so buff the rest of us are gonna have to hide!
Rene - glad you have the cell card! I would be lost if all those things went down at once!
Now, does anybody want to buy 3 kids cheap? I'm beginning to wonder if bringing those boys home was such a good idea. Their behavior seems to be hitting an all time low this week! And I'm at the end of my rope with the potty training for this girl! Yep, she's nearly 4 and still not working it! OK, I can give some leeway on the urinating as she seems to have a bladder the size of a pea. On days when we use the timer (I try this about every 2 weeks now) she can barely make 20 minutes without going. Sometimes 30, but not often! And she does go every time I put her on the toilet. But the other had gotten so good and all of a sudden she claims she doesn't "feel" it! Can any one say "feeling like a horrible Mom"!
Guess I should have said "Whine Alert"! But it's more like full scale tears!

Well the Salvation Army says that no one is sending items to Haiti because of the logistics of getting them there and that all the organizations they know of are only sending money donations. And Lisa, those things are all just part of being a mom. The fact that we can get through day to day trials in raising our kids is what makes us awesome women. And isn't it great that we have each other to lean on and help us through. If it helps to know this, and it probably won't, as they get older you apparently just trade in little kid issues for big kid issues. Today I put my DD on a one month restriction. I guess I'm lucky that this is the first time I've had to do it. But, I hope I can get past the hurt and anger before her month is up.

OK, had half a post typed and hit a wrong key and now it's all gone!
Gosh, Lisa... every mom goes through that..
You are NO way a horrible mom..
Potty training is sooo hard!
Sometimes you just want to quit, and you can't.. don't cry.. just vent here.. :love3::love3::love3:

I do not know if it will work for you, but it worked for me every time......
when the kids were old enough to be potty trained, I never tried to "make" them use the toilet. (I knew I would never be able to take that kind of stress). I went to the store and I bought them underware I knew they would love, AND I bought them a gift. I told them that as soon as they wanted to, they could wear the underwear instead diapers AND as soon as they made it 2 days without an accident, they could have this gift. I wrapped the gift VERY elaborately and I put it within sight, but out of reach. Every time we passed the gift I would say things like, "Hmmmm.........wonder what is in that present? Don't you love the way it is wrapped? I'll bet you that you are going to LOVE what is in it. I can't wait for you to do your work so you can have it.....but don't try until you are ready, ok?" But you have to wait until they ASK to wear the underwear - don't say things like, "Are you ready to try?" It worked every time.
Mama said she got the boys to do "it" by letting them go outside and drown bugs every time they pee'd, but I don't think that would work with girls.:rofl:

Does anyone know that feeling when you realize no matter what you do, you are powerless to ever change a situation? That's where I am this morning. So you remember 2 weeks ago when Drew didn't come home all night? And then we had a talk with him and I thought had come to an agreement on the rules? Well, Friday I saw him after work and he said he was going to help his friend work on his car, then Saturday he was going to drive to Snyder, an hour and 1/2 away to see his new girlfriend. Well, the curfew is at 2am. I finally texted him at 3am and asked him where he was, because of course my mind began to worry that he had had a wreck or something. An hour later he texted me back and said he was still helping fix the car (at 4am?) and would be late. I finally went to bed at 5:30am. Got up at 930, and he still wasn't home but had texted me at 9 and said he had spent the night with his friend since it was so late and was now on his way to see the girlfriend. And that's the last I've heard from him. Gary and I got home last night at 11 after having dinner with friends and going to their house for a bit, and he still wasn't home. Got up this morning, and he's still not here, so he never came home again last night. So he's been gone since Friday around 5:30. The agreement was his curfew was 2am, and if for some reason he would be later than that, he would call me BEFORE 2 to let me know what was going on, and that there would be NO MORE staying out all night. So, he was told that if this kind of thing happened again, he would have to move and that the help we were giving him with the legal stuff would be done. So that's where we are this morning.
It just breaks my heart. In all other ways he was doing so much better. Of the 3 kids last weekend on our trip, he was the one most willing to get up and spend the time with me and Gary. He went with us on a drive while the girls slept till noon. He had fun and was very socialable with us and the girls. But we just feel like we drew a line in the sand 2 weekends ago with the staying out all night, and he crossed it, not just once, but twice. So we feel we have no choice.
Not sure when he'll come home today, but it should be fun when he does. Happy Sunday to me. :(

Aww Rene, I am so sorry.
I don't remember.. how old is he? Even after 18 my parents had rules for all of us (I wasn't there much past 18 since I got married so young... but...) and one of them was a curfew. My parents taught us that it was a respect thing, that coming into someones home in the middle of the night, even though you live there, is really rude... and it kept mom up all night worrying about our safety until we got into the door. My DD was out til 2am last weekend, with adults and her friends (they took her to a concert and it was far away.. she was with my best friend so thats why I let her go) and even though she was with the adults, I was still worried and I stayed up. When she walked into the house, she asked "why are you awake? you should have just gone to sleep mom". I don't think kids 'get it' until they are parents themselves. I told her "I don't sleep while my babies are on the streets" ..... she said "I was with your own best friend, I was fine".... I just told her "you will understand when your a mom". She wasn't late for curfew as I already knew they wouldn't be home until between 2am and 3am...but even so, I was worried. I'm always worried ... I think I get that from all of DH's deployments to combat zones, I lived my life 24 hours a day being worried!! LOL!
I hope he comes home safely today and that things don't get too crazy, Rene. I'm sorry your having to deal with it. Stinks!

Rene, I just had a thought. maybe you should approach your conversation w/ Drew from a positive spin, like this, "Drew, I am so proud that you feel like you are ready to be on your own." "Where will you be moving and when?" :) IDK what do you think? will this work?
ReneT
01-24-2010, 10:39 AM
Thanks for the support guys. He knows he blew it. I just got a text from him saying he and his friend were going to look for an apartment today.
Laura, when we talked to him 2 weekends ago, that's the approach we took, that it was disrespectful to come home the next morning when you live with someone and that it was unfair to me to allow me to be up all night worrying. He said, "Well if I lived on my own, I would be out all night, so what's the difference?". I told him the difference was that even though I would know it deep down, I wouldn't have to see it.
I guess the thing that worries me the most at this point is that the whole point of allowing him to move back home in the first place was to help him through the legal mess he got himself into. So I'm afraid he will not take care of it and end up going to jail. But I guess we just have to let the chips fall where they may. He had the perfect situatioin, and he blew it.

I adore my brother sooooooooo much.... but I wish my parents would have booted him out YEARS AGO! He'd be a much better man than he is today. He's careless and irresponsible..... 36 living at home with no desire to ever leave. It's not that he stays cause he's a mommas boy, he's not.. but he stays cause it's easy and a free ride. It infuriates me that my parents enable him (well... my mom does, not my dad). I always tell my mom that when she's dead and gone, what then? He isn't coming to live with me, that is for POSITIVE!
I think your doing the right thing Rene by laying down rules and following through with the punishment of breaking them. He will be a better man because of it.

I know it's the right thing. I guess I tried to tell myself that since he was 17 when he got into that trouble, that we should help him now to deal with it. I always felt deep down it wasn't going to work, but was hopeful with all the positive changes we had seen in the last several months.
I have a sister who has a 35 year old daughter who still lives off my sister. When she's not being supported by my sister, she's sleeping with 3 men at the same time to get them to pay her bills. My sister is also raising this child's daughter (my sister's granddaughter). My sister is retired and on a fixed income, so it's very difficult to be raising a senior in high school and looking at paying for college tuition next fall. I don't want that - for me or for Drew. I don't want a 35 year old still living at home. I want him to stand on his own 2 feet, and to be proud of himself for doing it. So it's time, once and for all.
Gary just went to work for a few hours, and I'm gonna do some scrapping. I am hoping Drew won't be home until Gary gets home so that if he has anything to say, we will be able to talk to him together.
To make matters worse, someone tried to break into my DMIL's house last night. She said she muted the tv a couple of times because she thought she heard something at the front door, but decided it was just the wind. When she went outside to get the paper this morning, she saw where someone had broken the door handle and scratched up the door facing to try to pry the door open. She lives alone because my DFIL passed away almost 4 years ago. Pretty scary.
Thanks for everyone's support. You guys are the best!

Ur improved relationship lately is the reason I would empasize that this isn't a punishment but rather a natural consequence. Make sure he knows u know he can do it. Hopefully that will stop it from becoming a big argument and keep u guys close. And if he wants to argue just stick to the "I know u can do it, u have come so far etc and I love you." if he says then why can't I stay, tell him u r not willing to be miserable because of his choices. :) now my oldest is 13 so take my advice for what it is worth.

They are dirt bags...
I had one about a year ago... he (has to be a HE!!)... took over 2 of my machines... it took almost 2 months to get rid of DIRT BAG!
That's why I finally got a mac.
don't mess around
if you don't know how to get rid of dirt bag... find someone who does
If you don't know some one
I hightly recommend the geek squad at Best buy.
I tried to local people... they were jokes
they never believed I had a virus.. so they just reloaded my operating system
I had done that, duh!
so, dirt bag came back in each time...
but the geek squad not only believed me... they got rid of him, and set up a more secure system

uggggggggg! Watch out I got on this am and my computer had a window bubble thing popped up that says Windows has determined that you have a virus click here to start your virus scanner thing-y. Well not exactly but you get the gist. LOL Plus there was a big window that said basically the same thing. I tried to right click on the button in the bar, nothing helped..... couldn't get any of my real virus scan stuff to actually work or shut down
<<Whenever you see anything like this popup, it is not legitimate, delete it if you can.
These are gimmicks to get you to click on it and then it plants viruses, etc. on you computer! >>

Christine, yes, you can certainly try a system restore - to be safe - back up your last kit and work to a dvd...
but, it depends on the type of virus that has infected you.
some system related files DO NOT get restored during a system restore
you have to restore the operating system... and, then reload your files
depending on how deep this guy (you know it's a he!) is into your system.
I don't know what virus... if you can find that out..
from another machine... google it...

skimmed from the gene pool... well said, Chris! I've gotten that same window twice last week. I just x'ed out and quickly ran from the internet. It didn't catch me yet.

Carti, that is the one I just got rid of. It was horrible, and over the course of a few weeks, it got worse and worse until it finally completely incapacitated my computer. The first thing you can do is to run a free program called Malwarebytes. Here is a link:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
That stupid virus had written numerous false programs into my computer that looked very similar to the real programs. Everytime I deleted everything evil that I could find, it would rewrite itself from the rogue programs. I finally had to call my computer guru and he worked for hours to get my computer back to normal.
If it is the same virus I had, it would not allow my computer to do a system restore.

<<Yes, I have Malwarebytes and run it frequently.>>
Another tale tell sign, if it is the same virus I had, is it created an icon that appeared on my toolbar that looked an awful lot like the Norton icon. That little quad colored badge looking thingy. You need to be aware of this if you have Norton Antivirus because the stupid virus will tell you that you have update to upload, but they are really more viral files.
When the virus first started, I would get those pop ups once every few days asking me if I knew my computer was infected, and didn't I want to buy their product to get rid of it........
Then my desktop icons moved to my toolbar and began reproducing......I would delete them, but they would just come back. But the computer worked ok, so I ignored it.
It was at this point that I tried to do a system restore, but it would not work. (My computer guru said that the people who write viral programs frequently write that into their virus - they make it impossible for you to do a computer restore.
Then, after a few weeks, suddenly the pop ups happened several times a day, until finally I got pop up after pop up after pop up - the computer froze up and I had to unplug it. Then it would not turn back on - not even in safe mode. It was a mess.

I have Norton, and just did a scan and nothing came up. So hopefully I'm OK since I X'd out of it right away last night.
My computer guru found rogue, viral files scattered throughout my computer. They would look identical to legitimate files, except the majority of them had an extra little something in them. Most routinely, the extra something was francorn. For those of you who do not know, my "real" name is Fran Cornelius. They use something familiar to you to write the creepy files, so that hopefully you will overlook it.
