Yes, Rene, CHECK IT OUT!

They are dirt bags...

I had one about a year ago... he (has to be a HE!!)... took over 2 of my machines... it took almost 2 months to get rid of DIRT BAG!

That's why I finally got a mac.

don't mess around

if you don't know how to get rid of dirt bag... find someone who does

If you don't know some one

I hightly recommend the geek squad at Best buy.

I tried to local people... they were jokes

they never believed I had a virus.. so they just reloaded my operating system

I had done that, duh!

so, dirt bag came back in each time...

but the geek squad not only believed me... they got rid of him, and set up a more secure system

Thanks Debi. I ran the Norton and will have Gary look at it tonight.

Oh I hate virus's! I hope you get it all taken care of Chris!

I ran a scan on the lappie last night just cause so now I started it on the desk top, which gets virus's for no reason I think. I wouldn't have the virus if I didn't see the pop up right?!?!

I think they should find the people who write the viruses, and then lock them in a gymnasium for 2 minutes with all the people whose computers they infected. Each person whose computer was infected would be given an 5 foot long piece of rebar. They would leave all of us in there together, with the doors locked, for 2 minutes.

I *LOVE* my MAC! I never imagined myself ever buying one, let alone loving it.
We are getting DD a laptop for graduation to take to college with her... Im thinking of getting her a Macbook Pro, but she says she wants a PC (she's a creature of habit... not a clue how to use a MAC.. which I sorta like cause she doesn't ever touch my mac without my help... yay! lolol). But Im worried about viruses and such so maybe Mac is the way to go for her... she can suck it up and learn it like the rest of us....

Laura, is it a lot different from the PC? I guess in my mind I can't see how they'd be that different. IS it Safari that doesn't get virus's or just the the whole system?

After listening to you ladies I decided to do a full scan of my laptop. We have McAfee and so problems showed up.

Our first computers(years ago) were Macs but then DH wanted PC as he had one at work so we got PCs. Macs have their own operating systems.People who write viruses write them for PCs because so many people have PCs.

stitchmich

we don't have Mac's but DH uses safari and swears is saves him from viruses. I was using safari before I reformated and switched back to XP a couple of weeks ago. I'm using Explorer and when I got those "warning" screens my first thought was "I should be using Safari!"

Christine, to be safe

Check your credit card, and bank account balance by PHONE

to make sure no fraud charges went thru today.

don't tell them anything.. just ask for yesterday and today's charges

also, if you know how... I'd change my router (linksys or cisco) password

and, your system user password today (while you are NOT on the NETWORK!)

Anyone can use Safari - Safari is simply Mac's version of Internet Explorer
It's just an internet browser.

It's the Mac that is different...

And, again like what was said before, the reason they TEND to say safer from attacks is because less people have them

That does NOT mean they are IMMUNE to viruses - just means - there are a lot less of them.

Would ya'll like to hear how much gall my son has? He texted me today and asked if he could have the $300 back that he paid me from his last check as payment towards the legal fees we paid, so that he could put a deposit down on an apartment. Seriously? I said "No sir. You still owe us over $1000. At 2:00 Friday morning you made the decision that you were going to move out, so now you need to figure out how to make that happen on your own. I will not be paying for it."

Yay me!!! Then I talked to G and told him, and he said "Maybe you should just give it back to him and let it go.":eek::eek: I was like "Nope. He gets a check on the first, so he can pay the first month's rent and deposit then. I'm going to use it to pay for an excursion for our cruise this summer." Are ya'll proud?

Well, the boy heard me and now not only does he feel sick, he feels bad for making a huge mess. I told him I wasn't upset with him but he can't expect me to be joyful about cleaning up vomit. What kind of mother makes her kid upset when he's sick? ugh. (but seriously, the couch, the rug, two pillows, a blanket, the hardwood floor... good grief)

Michelle - sorry to here DS is sick and even more so that you have to clean it up! For me, it would have been "DH! So and so just threw up! Go clean it up if you don't want to add mine to the mix!" (I'm horrible and gag and most the time get sick too!)

Maybe what I just ran across with help a little!

Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food.
The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle
of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor
do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the
bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help because I fall faster than you
can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do
not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however.
Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary
to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible.
I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the
other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I
beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine,
meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the
door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the
bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or
cat’s butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

(1) They live here. You don’t. (2) If you don’t want their hair on your clothes,
stay off the furniture. That’s why they call it ‘fur’-niture. (3) I like my pets a
lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are
adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don’t speak
clearly.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they (1) eat less, (2) don’t
ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don’t hang out with drug-using people; (7) don’t
smoke or drink, (8) don’t want to wear your clothes, (9) don’t have to buy the
latest fashions, (10) don’t need a gazillion dollars for college and (11) if they
get pregnant, you can sell their children

I do not know if it will work for you, but it worked for me every time......

when the kids were old enough to be potty trained, I never tried to "make" them use the toilet. (I knew I would never be able to take that kind of stress). I went to the store and I bought them underware I knew they would love, AND I bought them a gift. I told them that as soon as they wanted to, they could wear the underwear instead diapers AND as soon as they made it 2 days without an accident, they could have this gift. I wrapped the gift VERY elaborately and I put it within sight, but out of reach. Every time we passed the gift I would say things like, "Hmmmm.........wonder what is in that present? Don't you love the way it is wrapped? I'll bet you that you are going to LOVE what is in it. I can't wait for you to do your work so you can have it.....but don't try until you are ready, ok?" But you have to wait until they ASK to wear the underwear - don't say things like, "Are you ready to try?" It worked every time.

Mama said she got the boys to do "it" by letting them go outside and drown bugs every time they pee'd, but I don't think that would work with girls.:rofl:
Well, buying the underwear didn't work, we did that a year ago! But buying a gift just might! (of course, I think I might wait til after the Dr visit, there still might be a physical issue with the bladder issue) I also don't think the "drowning bugs" would work right now with 3 feet of snow on the ground!

Thanks for the support guys. He knows he blew it. I just got a text from him saying he and his friend were going to look for an apartment today.

Laura, when we talked to him 2 weekends ago, that's the approach we took, that it was disrespectful to come home the next morning when you live with someone and that it was unfair to me to allow me to be up all night worrying. He said, "Well if I lived on my own, I would be out all night, so what's the difference?". I told him the difference was that even though I would know it deep down, I wouldn't have to see it.

I guess the thing that worries me the most at this point is that the whole point of allowing him to move back home in the first place was to help him through the legal mess he got himself into. So I'm afraid he will not take care of it and end up going to jail. But I guess we just have to let the chips fall where they may. He had the perfect situatioin, and he blew it.

I know it's the right thing. I guess I tried to tell myself that since he was 17 when he got into that trouble, that we should help him now to deal with it. I always felt deep down it wasn't going to work, but was hopeful with all the positive changes we had seen in the last several months.

I have a sister who has a 35 year old daughter who still lives off my sister. When she's not being supported by my sister, she's sleeping with 3 men at the same time to get them to pay her bills. My sister is also raising this child's daughter (my sister's granddaughter). My sister is retired and on a fixed income, so it's very difficult to be raising a senior in high school and looking at paying for college tuition next fall. I don't want that - for me or for Drew. I don't want a 35 year old still living at home. I want him to stand on his own 2 feet, and to be proud of himself for doing it. So it's time, once and for all.

Gary just went to work for a few hours, and I'm gonna do some scrapping. I am hoping Drew won't be home until Gary gets home so that if he has anything to say, we will be able to talk to him together.

To make matters worse, someone tried to break into my DMIL's house last night. She said she muted the tv a couple of times because she thought she heard something at the front door, but decided it was just the wind. When she went outside to get the paper this morning, she saw where someone had broken the door handle and scratched up the door facing to try to pry the door open. She lives alone because my DFIL passed away almost 4 years ago. Pretty scary.

Thanks for everyone's support. You guys are the best!
I would have to say that you have had enough for one week! After all the good that has happened in the last few months, it's hard to face the set back. But it sounds like he was looking for a reason to move since he had it all lined up to go looking. And I sure hope your MIL is doing OK! I would have been a wreck after that!

ok, can I say this?....... hmmmm why yes I think I can, cuz it is my forum and doesn't break DSPs rules. LOL

PEOPLE WHO WRITE COMPUTER VIRUSES ARE SCUM AND NEED TO BE SKIMMED FROM THE GENE POOL!!!!!

uggggggggg! Watch out I got on this am and my computer had a window bubble thing popped up that says Windows has determined that you have a virus click here to start your virus scanner thing-y. Well not exactly but you get the gist. LOL Plus there was a big window that said basically the same thing. I tried to right click on the button in the bar, nothing helped..... couldn't get any of my real virus scan stuff to actually work or shut down

finally had to push the button it restarted but all of that stuff was still there, then tried to restart in safe mode then restore back a few days, which I think worked. If you see this do NOT click on the bubble or the x thing cuz they can make it be like a link and it will install some supposed anti-virus software.

Dirt bags!!!

Aaaaarrrrrgh! One reason I love the Mac - no viruses!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Why don't Macs get virus's? DH wants a Mac but they are SO expensive!
It has more to do with the operating system than anything else. The foundation is UNIX which goes back to mainframe days, is highly secure and runs on such a different code than Windows that hackers don't go after it as often. And yes, they are more expensive, but the average lifespan is much longer making the cost per year less in the long run.

It has nothing to do with numbers, it has to do with security holes and vulnerability.

GREAT JOB RENE!!!! So proud of you!

So, Mac owners I have a ??? With the Imac is there a tower or is all in the display?
I don't know about the smaller iMac, but the new 27 incher comes with the wireless mouse and keyboard. Mac does make the Mini, which you hook to a monitor, or the Pro line (you think iMac is expensive, just look at the price of these towers) that are a tower model, but these come standard with dual hard drives, quad processors, things like that. But Apple has put the workings all into one box for longer than PCs even existed!

Hey Fran... I have to tell you something... it made me laugh.

My 12yo son walked in, stared at my screen, being curious, and he looked over at your avatar..... and he said "does she go pee all the time or something?" I said "huh?" and he pointed to your avatar and he said "it says she is the P Queen..why does she want everyone to know she pees all the time?"

And, I'm pretty sure I need to reload CS4.. (they said so - who the heck are they? ) after I added Snow Leopard to my Mac... It's just been running slower and slower since I did that upgrade.. All my other programs are just fine.. Just CS4... So, I tried to do it yesterday - but oops forgot to deactivate the stupid thing first.. But, luckily I had it backed up... so, I get to do it all over again today...

Wish me a fun, fun day..

At least I can work on both the printer and CS4 at the same time... yippee..

Am I the only one who despises this chore? I will actually procrastinate long as possible just to avoid it.... unless it's Summer or school break, then I dont mind, cause Im the mean mom who makes the kids bring it all in for me! LOL

DH and I shop together probably 92% of the time. (He, too, is retired) I like to shop alone, because I do NOT vary from the list, and DH is an *impulse byer*.

BTW, Lisa, I never did tell you that I found my most *up to date* (well, as of 4/09. :o :p) Quicken in an obscure place. What a relief. I left it where it was (on the Seagate backup of my dead EHD) and also copied it to the PC.

Now, my question is, can I safely erase all the other backups that appear here, there and everywhere without compromising the current saved work? If you say "YES" (fingers crossed here), then I would set the Seagate to back up the PC version.

If theres a will, theres a way. If he really wants things to get taken care of so that he has no further legal issues from it all, then he'll find a way. And in finding a way, it will make him a stronger, better person. It may not be easy for him in his journey, but he'll see at the end that it made him an even better person.. and he will be able to be proud of that.

Right now, I'm scared to do anything!

I periodically erase the backups that Quicken does automatically, but I also make a copy of the file every single time I've been in it and made changes. Especially if I have downloaded bank info. Since I do bills every Sunday morning, it is just a habit to make that extra copy when I'm done. I save it to a Jump drive. So now I have many copies, the working file that can be found inside my applications folder, one copy that is made to a documents folder automatically by Quicken, two that is made by my automatic back up program (remember I'm on Mac and it's built into the system) and are put on the EHD (oh, and there are 2 because there is the original file and the backup being backed up), and a copy I have saved to a jump. Do you think I'm paranoid of losing data? Yep, had it happen way to many times. So, until you get at least the working copy, plus 2 back ups, do not delete. Once you do have those 3, delete to your hearts content, but always keep 3 current and one old file. Clear as mud?

I SO want one, but DH is SO set on paying off a huge expense by the end of the year, that I don't have a lot of spending $$$! :(:(

Which brings me to a question. What do virus's do? I know they can ruin your computer, but can people then get info off your computer? I really don't know what they are written for exactly other than to tick off Chris and the rest of the world!

Some viruses just make your computer run inefficiently. Others can and do pull info from your system or allow the bad guys to get in and pull it themselves. It all depends on just how "bad" the bad guy is. Still others can affect the actual hardware settings nearly destroying the system, but these are the most rare.

Don't you just love love love them? I may go put mine on now. It's cold, windy and snowing here today. I left home this morning to go run 3 errands. It was raining like crazy when I left. By the time I got home, there was enough snow on the ground to totally cover all the standing rain in the yard even though it had been raining since about 12 last night! Crazy stuff!

Oh, and did I tell you La Mansion gave me & G a free night's stay due to all our problems with the hotel? We are going on March 5. Can't wait. Hopefully it will be warmer this time! We don't really have any big plans, but relax and do some shopping at the Rivercenter Mall. Yay!

It's pretty much a free trip except for the food and any shopping we do. The hotel is free and we have rapid rewards from Southwest. So that helps. The rapid rewards will probably slow down a lot unfortunately. We always put a lot of our business expenses on it, so now that we will only have a few expenses for the little part of the business we kept, we won't get near as many. Boo.

OK, back to being serious.

Question: When you make a Smart Collection in Bridge, and then click on it later, does it always look like it's researching everytime? Down at the bottom, it still has that circle thing that is going in circles and it says Located in.....blahblahblah (indexing blahblahblah) or (xx thumbnail extractions). Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if this is normal.

>>aruaL<<
01-28-2010, 02:39 PM
Rene, I have found that it does that if I haven't clicked on that smart collection folder for awhile... otherwise, the little circle comes up while it's bringing it up, but it comes up fast. Like it's indexing or something.

>>aruaL<<
01-28-2010, 02:41 PM
I've also noticed that it's a little slower to bring it up if I have added new kits since last using that smrt collection folder. Like with Christines... I used it the other day and it was fast.. but then I added some new stuff to my bridge that are her kits, and so this morning it took a little longer to bring it all up... now if I try it right now, it came up reallly fast.

It doesn't take too long to bring up the pictures, but it just looks like it's searching the whole time and also it is really slow if I try to use the slider to look through all the pictures. Like I move the slider and nothing happens, then in a bit it might move.

Im not sure how you have your files/folders set up.. but if you go to your main DSP folder where you keep your kits and click on it... then go up above to VIEW>Show items from subfolders and let it run.. in the corner you should see the circle and it indexing... it will take abit of time... just let it run.

Like for me, I have a Folder called Digital Supplies, then in that is DSP and in that is all the kits listed... so for me I just click on the DSP folder only, and tell it to show items from subfolders....

>>aruaL<<
01-28-2010, 03:15 PM
also make sure you have View>As thumbnails checked ... which Im sure you already do

>>aruaL<<
01-28-2010, 03:18 PM
and just to make ya feel better.... when i first was keywording all my stuff... it would run abit slower (smart collections I mean) and be a lil strange... but once I learned to index and I did that, it worked muchhhhh better... now I do index every so often if I notice it's abit slower finding things and I know Ive done a lot of keywording/adding new kits. So I doubt anhything is wrong, I think your just having the same thing happening that happened to me at first too.

My knees have been killing me the past few days. So I decided to go to the running store to find out why. I'm so mad I didn't go to the running store in the first place. Now I hope I can sell them online and get some $ back for them. They have only been used for 2 weeks.

I am sooo bummed out... my dd had a soccer game today and I always go them.. always... but today ds had an appt with his math teacher that has been arranged for awhile now... so he really needed to be there for her help. DD just called, it's half time, and she's screaming in the phone "I scored!! I scored!! and... mom, you totally MISSED it!!" .... my heart cracked a little.... *sigh*

Its hard to be in two places at once... especially when her school is about 30 mins away from home. Argh. Bummer.

Rene, did it help?

Believe it or not, it's still indexing! It's going really slow.

I learned that PS does NOT like to run at the same time as ITunes or Bridge, so I think I'm going to have to close PS and Explorer until Bridge gets finished. Everthing keeps freezing up. I must need more memory.

I reboot every night now. It just will not run well with ITunes or Bridge. PS is soooooo slow when either of those are running at the same time. So now I play the Itouch on a speaker thing separate.

Bridge finally finished. So now I'm going to try to finish the layout I've been trying to get done all day. :)

If you had Smart Collections.. then you could just index a piece at a time...

not the whole thing.. (in CS4 Bridge that is!)... Goes much faster... Because you can pick and choose what you need right this second to scrap with - save the rest for later

for example - if you wanted to scrap with just Christine's Stuff

Make a Smart Collection for Designer = Christine Gundersen in you DSP folder (that is if you keyworded them that way...

make sense I hope..

I am thinking so! well humph! LOLOLOL

Dang, I finally had time to get everything all packaged up and uploaded last night. Took forever to that many items, but looks like they are all in the store now. I was kinda nervous that I might mess something up since I was so tired, but looks like I did ok, yay!

Big workout morning this am, went and lifted weights for 45 minutes or so, then swam 1300 yds in 35 minutes. Dang I am slow, but it is better than when it took me 40+ minutes I suppose. :) And I was pretty tired from the weights. I keep trying to bump those up too, but Dana I am not....... yet! :D

Joshie had a super birthday yesterday! I will tell him when he gets home, Crys! So here's a funny from him on that. So I kept asking him what he wanted for his birthday and he didn't know so I asked if he wanted to just go shopping and pick something out on his actual birthday and he said yes. So yesterday after school, he says, so Mommy did you get me any presents for my birthday? I said no, he got this very sad puppy dog face. "Why not?" I said, "remember, you wanted to go pick something out," "Well Mommy then it won't be a surprise":eek::eek::lol::lol::lol: So last night when he went w/ dh to swim lessons, I said well I will go to the store while you are gone for presents. He says, "I thought you were going to let me pick them out." :confused::confused:Anybody else feel like part of that conversation is missing? :D

We went shopping after he got home and he was hilarious. He wanted a couple of DS games and a bag of those Grandma Iced animal cookies. I think that is what they are called. The pink and white ones with the sprinkle bead things. I think he was the most excited about the cookies, cuz they were allllll his own. :D

Crys, If *I* am able to do bridge.. then you surely are able to!! I thought I was hopeless... but nope, I am not. YAY! Well... at least not when it comes to bridge and keywording... lololol

I clicked on the trashcan button, but it sent the item to the recycle bin, which is not what I want. I want it to stay in my files, but not in the SC. :help:

is it keyworded wrong Rene? I mean wrong as in... not keyworded the way you want it to be.... if you change the keyword it will take it out...

There might be another way to take it out too Rene... Chris and Debi would know better than me.. but what I have done is just change my keyword for that item

I didn't keyword it. I made a SC for feathers and it's a frame but has "feather" in the file name, so when I made the feather SC, it added it, but it's a frame, not a feather, so I don't want it in there.

BINGO!

And Laura, most people for Illinois would have no idea where Sheldon is!

Ohhh I would just change the file name a tad then..

I made all my SC's to gather from keywords I did...

So like when it looks for my previews.. its only finding those that are KEYWORDED with "preview" ... even if its in the file name, it aint coming up in the SC w/out the keyword for it.

Or you could tell it to look for "feathers" minus the file name of frame, I think ... add frame to the file name of the framed one and it should exclude it.

ohhhhh I text my bro, and he said "your a disgrace sis... you have family there and you have no idea where SHELDON is?" ... ooops....

I'm a disgrace to the family?!

He's lucky that I know he's totally messing with me and doesn't really mean that I'm a disgrace.. or else I might cry. LOL... or kick his butt and tell daddy on him too.

I have all my stuff keyworded but I only use SC for major things like designer, preview, not keyworded, etc.. otherwise I just go to my keyword list and click find... and it comes up.

So Rene.. your post got me thinking.... if your not keywording your stuff for your SC ... how will it find "feathers" if it's not in the filename?

I'm still learning too so I'm wondering if I am missing out on something here... lol

Like I found several papers that were not file named "BG_" .... and I found a LOT of word art that was not WA_ or W_ .... so if it's not in the file name how would your SC find those stragglers, the way you have your SC set up?

It won't find them if it's not in the file name. I'm just hoping the SC will pick up a majority of them. I eventually hope to go in and keyword most of my stuff, but for now, I'm just trying to get all the SC set up that I can think of.

After I did the SC's for feathers and flowers (separate) I went back to the SC and keyworded each flower and feather with the color they were, because lots of times I want to search by color. I'm going to set aside a bit of time everyday for keywording, but it will take forever. :(

I kinda cheated... like today I searched for "hearts" in file name.. and then I scanned through real quick to be sure it was a heart, and then I clicked on the first one, shift clicked on the last one.. and then clicked the keyword I wanted for them. Bingo... all hearts done now. lol I did the same for "balloons" ... etc. Have you been keywording them in bulk once your SC finds them for ya?

I did my papers, previews, frames, etc.. all the same way...

Now I just go in and detail the keywording on them a few a day or as I come across them.

Rene today when I did my feathers and hearts.. I searched for GREEN... it came up with all of my green file named stuff.. then I just bulk keyworded them by color, since they were all green.. it was easy... three clicks and i was doneeee

How are you searching within a SC? When I search, it looks in everything.

>>aruaL<<

Just do a mass color keywording.. LOL!

Search for files named "red" ... and up comes all your red elements.... one mass keywording of RED elements... regardless what it is, feather, heart, paper, etc

I don't do my search in SC .. I just do it normal .. I either use CMD F (Im on mac) or I click the keyword in my list and click "find" .... and then I use the box that comes up to locate what I want.... like all things with file name "heart" and "red" .. .but easiest for ME was to do bulk color keywording.. all REDs got done didn't matter what it was.

You could tell it to pull up just filenames with "heart" and "red". ... but that didn't seem to satisfy me as much as just doing all elements at once

I just think it's a great and VERY fast way to get some bulk keywording done! I mean.. really.. sure you want your red feathers to be coded RED.. but you'll want your red papers to be RED too... and frames, etc.. so why not do all at ONCE.. :-)

Rene... something else I did when I was first getting mine up and going...

You know when you went to your DSP main folder of where your kits are.. and you clicked VIEW>show items in subfolders and thumbnails, yesterday? And it indexed ... well, if you go over to the middle or at the top of Bridge and tell it to sort by file name...or type.. it will group them .. so like all your previews will mostly be together, your paper, your elements, etc... that is also how I did some bulk keywording... highlighted them all at once for the group I wanted and then clicked my keyword.
