It wasn't until I unzipped it that I realized it was a Gundi creation! Ya'll go check it out. TOO CUTE!!:applause::tup::applause::tup:

I can't stick with it either. I started P365 last year at the beginning of April and fell apart in August. So that was longer than I thought I would last  It helped me look for photos in everyday life and learn to find an interesting way to take a photo, which was great! But I started having a lot of photos of food and not many photos of people, which was weird  So I'm trying the 52 faces challenge this year. I think I can handle one photo a week, and I need to photograph people more often, so it was just what i need.

So I had a meeting today with one of the school teachers from DD's old school. She's (the teacher :D) pregnant, due in July and is wanting me to be day mother to baby for the first 6 months!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: Plus....... she wants me to do a maternity shoot with her round month 8!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:And she should be "round" by month 8.... that shoot should be a good time ! Enjoy it! And then you get to do newborn shots..... this could make you the "family photographer"...... and escalate into a business.. watch out !

It's pretty simple. Debi taught me. Highlight all the layers in your layout that you want to group together. Go to Layers>Group Layers. That will put them all in a group and then they will be collapsed and take up less space in the layers palette. Or you can expand them too. You can still do anything you want to each layer, even move it out of the group by moving it. If you want to ungroup them, do Layers>Ungroup layers.

Yes? I am here just on my touch. Finally got my anti virus software reinstalled. It has been scanning since 5am. Couldn't sleep worth crap so I got up and fussed some more. I hate hate hate when I am facing the unknown. My stomach is all in knots. Couldn't figure out why I felt so awful when I went swimming then realized I had only had one fiber bar in about 20 hours.
I will tell u guys what I am starting to feel picked on. Zach got his clothes stolen at the gym last night. HIS CLOTHES! I mean seriously who wants a 9 yr old boys grubby clothes?! Then today I found out they are taking my regular hours at work. So now I either have to just fill in and do without the money or find a "real" job, which would probably wipe out most of my design time.
So are u sure u guys want me around? I might rub off on you. Sigh :(

Chris, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You can't get a real job! We LOVE your kits!! Sorry about Zach's clothes. Really that is pathetic. Maybe they were desperate???
Rene, Your page is AWESOME!!!
Laura, glad DS is going to be ok!
I sold my new shoes that don't work to my......... sister! Can you believe it? She runs the total opposite of me and we have the same size feet. I told her to only pay me 1/2 what I paid, so she's getting a great deal. But at least I don't have to look at them anymore!! :D My knees are better, no more hurting at all, I can't believe what a good shoe does!!
is this the sister I know? Awesome! And even better are u delivering u could co
e visit me if u dare. :)
so the people at the gym found the clothes last night. Apparently they had grabbed his pants hoping he had something valuable then when he didn't they just shoved them back in a random locker. I know they were gone though cuz one of the male employees went in and looked thru every locker with zach and they weren't there. So he got the clothes back but not the goggles.
So I don't know who to believe on my computer. Best buy said it is probably hardware And for $70 they can tell me for sure. Office depot said their scan said hardware is fine but it is a virus and for $170 they will fix the virus and tune up my system. Pc laptops said it sounds like I had a virus but it is gone now but now there is damage to the OS so need to reinstall for $80 per hour! Sheesh! Would be nice if anybody had a clue. Can u tell what I did all day? And the DM hasn't called me back to talk about the job situation, which he promised if we got more hours I could have them just a couple of weeks ago.

Ahh ok I guess I just never seen the initials for it before... to me a pharmacist was always a pharmacist... hehe.
Thankfully we didn't end up at the ER... I think the coach over exaggerated it abit. DD said he paniced because he could hear the 'crunch' of her ankle from the side line (the collision on the field with the other player happened on his side of the field, right in front of him). He is just overly protective of my DD ever since her accident last year that ended with her being put in the trauma center with head injuries.
So I iced it and we stayed home in the warmmmmm house instead of going to the coldddd mountain to the ER. I'll look at it today and see if she needs to go in for crutches or something. I think she just twisted it badly. She didn't want to go to the ER either, she was tired cold and hungry. Staying home was the best choice. So happy too cause I was not wanting to take the long drive or sit around in an ER! So motrin and ice it is for now... :-)

Office Depot - don't do it Christine... I know several techs there - they aren't even certified
Personally, I have gone to Best Buy 3 times now
all 3 times - they may charge more - but there "Geek Squad" is certified in whatever they are doing - be it tv's, computers or whatever the heck they sell.
and, if they don't do it right.. they will make it right...
I have had nothing but good luck with them.
When I had Mr. Hacker - they were the only ones that could get rid of him... and, they set up an awesome network for me - so that it would not happen again.
And, he sat with me and told me what he was doing - so, I would know - (that's only if I wanted to.
They are also written up in Computer Techie magazines as being among the best in the US.. Circuit cities was too - but they are gone..
I would go Best Buy... no question..
They just fixed my hard drive.. they gave me all my options. and, why...
Then for free told me the correct order to reload my data...
and, I could call (mike - the dude at the store back) if I had any questions or problems...
cool... that's only for a price of $50 labor plus the price of a hard drive..
that's cheap in my opinion...

Years ago, when I used to walk, (Yes, even I, at one time, was active! ;) :D) I wore Nikes. I would get shin splints to badly I would be crying half way through, and still had to make it back home. If there had been cell phones then, I would have called people to come pick me up, they hurt that bad.
Finally I bought a pair of Reeboks and voila! No more shin splints.

Good morning everyone!!! It's still cold and cloudy here today. No snow yet like they predicted.
Today I am going to hopefully start my tablet class as well as look through some more of the photos my DMIL gave me for Gary's album. I have several of his jr high and high school photos, so I am hoping to find elementary school so I can do a layout with all of them. None of the photos are very organized, so it's hard to find anything. I also need to spend some time today trimming the ones I've already printed and print some more.

Last night Kevin won 1st place for his science project. Again! He wins every year and this year he actually said "Im not going to do a realllllly good one... I hate going to County". He hates going to the next level... it's out of town, it's all day, and he misses school which means make up school work, etc. So he purposefully didn't put his entire heart and mind into it. But, he won! hahahahah.... and they loved his backdrops, which was Christine's papers. And they thought his fruits (which were Carol's I believe) were awesome too. Very interesting... hehe.

Aarrrrgh! I had a whole post done and hit the wrong key. I wiped the whole thing out!
Laura - glad about DD being ok and sorry to here DS is so upset by his win! Guess he needs to do next years with even less intent.
Yesterday was library day. That means lots of running around because we have to take DH to and from work. I hate having that car sitting in the garage, paying insurance on it and having no way to use it. I also don't know if I really want to sink any more money into it. It just seems like a total money pit.
Then last night I went to Kristie's. She got a pen & touch for Christmas and was afraid to plug it in. Well, her DH has just upgraded her to Windows 7 (I hadn't seen that before) and to PS CS4. So we played and I think she'll be ok with the tablet, she just needs to find a way to cover the mouse pad on her laptop (no way to disable it). But before I left she showed me something that I really want to show you. Make sure you have a towel handy for all the drool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BShE_jS8jLE
Oh, and just so you know, that's not the only one, just the one I thought you would like the best!

Very interesting... hehe.
Poor kid. I'm proud. But he's mad. ahahahaha.
that's awesome... uh, er.. mostly. SOrry he's disappointed, but how exciting to have a kid so smart he wins even when he's not trying!

Warned you! Hope you had that towel ready. Hey, does that make you want to switch?
Oh, and guess what! I finally get to go see New Moon next week. It's playing at this funky dinner theater we have here. You buy a booth, or get a table, order your dinner and drinks (yep, get to drink cause we have a taxi in the form of my DBIL) and sit back and watch the show. DSIL called last night when she learned it was playing and rather than have her interrupt my evening with Kristie, DH just told me to call her. I'm soooooooo excited!

Yes you warned me. I'm trying to switch, but every time I get started in PSE I make half a layout and head back to PSP  There are things that PSE does better and there are things that PSP does better. But mostly it's hard to break habits. Now if a copy of PS happened to fall into my lap, I feel certain I could make the switch!!!!

I will still be praying too Sands!!!
I was suppose to go swimming this a.m. but was up in the middle of the night puking my guts out. :annoyed: I love swimming and am so bummed I couldn't go. I know why I was sick and won't be doing that again.
Poor you! That's no fun!
Does anyone have any super bowl plans?? We are just staying home, but I am going to make a home made pizza. I was watching a local show yesterday and they had a guy come on and show how to make the crust yummy, so we will be trying that out.
Nope so Super Bowl plans.
Ohhhhhhh did ya'll see that Christine's birthday bash sale is tomorrow!!?? 33% off her stuff...... shop shop shop.... yayyyyy!! Happy birthday to you... happy birthday to you...... haaaaappppyyy birthdayyyy... ahh heck, I think I just scared everyone with my singing! lol
Woot!!!
ha! couldn't be an age thing, could it? yeah, I've got the same problem. I am in serious need of an eye dr. appt and some new glasses. I don't wear mine half the time anymore cuz I can't see any better with them than without them :p I need bifocals, but I tried them a few years ago and HATED them. Has anybody tried the new bifocal contact lenses?
The doctor said they were definitely some worse this year. She said partly because of age (boo!) and partly because I'm in front of the computer all day (boo!). But I did go and order some new frames. I've been wearing bifocals for about a year now. After I started wearing my glasses more - I wear them all day when I'm home, and my sunglasses are also bifocals - I was able to get used to them and don't even notice they are bifocals. I guess you just subconsciously learn where to look based on what you need. I tried 3 different pairs of contacts a year ago - 2 of them were bifocals, but because I have an astygmatism, the far vision was just too blurry and I could never get used to them. The doctor said some people can, and some can't. She never made me pay for them unless they worked and I was going to keep them, so that was good since they never did work.

Lisa did you guys try up in the F keys? I thought my new one did not have a way to turn off the touch pad too, cuz I was used to the HP that had a button right on the pad, but then discovered it was one of the fn buttons. You probably already scoped this out, but thought I would just mention it in case. :D Speaking of Kristie, is she boycotting us? haven't seen her around for a bit
Bummer Heather! You should come down and swim with me tomorrow. Weston and Tyler devised a set for me that will be torture I am thinking. (Tyler apparently couldn't come up with a devious enough scheme so he recruited Weston to help)
I took the desktop in to get its OS reinstalled going to get Windows 7 while I am at it.
OK I am almost embarrassed cuz it is starting to sound like I am making stuff up, but would you believe that my old lappie AND dd1's cell phone were coughing up hair balls today too?! Thankfully both were fairly easy to fix. The lappie needed a new video driver. Why it all of the sudden decided this who knows, but it was so odd, cuz if it went to sleep, when it came back on, you couldn't see the mouse arrow AT ALL. It still worked if you got lucky and managed to get hovered over the spot you were aiming for, but mostly it was just guessing cuz you have no idea where the silly thing is. Lex's phone was saying insert Smart Chip. Hello it is in there. What do you mean insert it?!! So she is texting me from her friends phone while still at school, FREAKING OUT!! I don't want to be tech support any more. sigh. Again thankfully we were able to reset it.

Not sure where they are w/ doing it for age related vision issues but I was so near sighted that I could walk up to the wall put my hands on it and BARELY see the big E, never was sharp. After Lasik though I have had awesome vision. Seriously I wonder why I waited so long, such a superb investment. At the time, they told me that it wouldn't keep me from needing cheaters when the time came in "5-6 years" but a) didn't care, figured cheaters sometimes was better than blind all the time and b) now it has been 9 years and I still have great vision. :yahoo: Probably I am due after 20 years or so of awful vision. :D

yeah the progressives fade from one area to the other, but the "vision" parts were kinda like to round areas on top on each other (sorta like a figure 8) then all the area around that was nothing, so there wasn't any periperal vision. You have to turn your whole head to everything you want to see. It was weird and I couldn't handle it. I should probably tried regular lined bifocals.

I also have astigmatism and I've worn contacts for 40+ years. I have bifocal glasses (regular) but I never wear them. Now that I've had cataract surgery in my *blind* eye, the glasses don't work at all! I should get new glasses, but I hate spending money for something that I never wear. But...if something would happen to the contact in my *good* eye, I'd be up a creek without a paddle. KWIM?

Mine you can't really tell all that much that they are bifocals because they don't have that line all the way across the lens like what you think about when you think about bifocals. Just the little rectangle.

Shana - I saw you were on Facebook! WooHoo that you will be back soon! You have been missed.
I have worn the progressives for a few years now. When I first got them I was sure I would never get used to them, but now I don't even notice. I was one that had glasses for years and only wore them on rare occasions like if I was night driving or sitting in a movie theater. I would go years with out even getting new lenses, and from the time I got my first pair until right after the boys were born, every pair I did get was weaker than the last. I was just starting to hope I could go completely without when I got pregnant it shot my vision right out the window. By the time DD was born I was nearly to the point of wearing them all the time, and now, I can't live without them. Especially when I'm reading or working at the computer. The only thing I don't like is having to tip my head to see the computer screen. I sooooooo want a desk that let's me put the monitor down lower! The crick in my neck gets pretty bad.
Gundi - without his contacts or glasses on, DH cannot see the big E. They said he was 20-300. (I did not know it went up that high....shows you what I know). He is legally blind. He corrects to 20-20. Isn't that amazing?

WOW!! Laura, that's wonderful. 'Least she's gonna have options! ;)
OK - so now I have to tell you my vision story. About 13 years ago, I had a sudden loss of vision in dim lighting --- I lost about 90% of my vision in one eye, and in the other eye there was a severe loss of vision but I could still see well enough to manuever. They decided it was part of the auto immune disease. In subdued lighting, I feel like I am walking in ink. In visual fields, I have mirror image areas of complete blindness.
Now here's the question - how many of you want to ride with me driving at night?  It is a real thrill!
(I do not drive at night if I can possibly help it, and when I do drive I stick to well lit streets).

Very interesting... hehe.
Poor kid. I'm proud. But he's mad. ahahahaha.
Standing ovation for Kevin!:love1:
DD is so thrilled... she got accepted to another University today!! I don't know that she'll actually go there, I think she's decided to just stay closer to home and not so far, but she is still just bouncing off walls to know that she was accepted and can go if she wants.

Kev told the school today that he "respectfully declines his option to go to County".... they adore him and thought it was kinda funny and said "it isn't an option". He said "it is if my parents don't take me there" and the teacher said "I'll take you".. he said "I don't drive with strangers, and technically YOU are a stranger, I only know your name.. and who says that is even your real name?" .... they cracked up laughing. He asked the teacher "can I pay you off?" .... rotfl!!

Warned you! Hope you had that towel ready. Hey, does that make you want to switch?i think I may bite the bullet on this one !
I'm soooooooo excited!sounds like a good time.. it will be so much fun just going OUT without the kidlets.. some grownup time .
Dittos!
Well, I would have given him congratulations, but think I'll just give 'em to Mom instead! :D
Too cool! I had heard it was coming, which is why I have not upgraded to CS4.:pI'm hoping the items in the youtube Lisa showed us are actualy IN cs5.. they did say it was "something they were working on"
Hey guys. Just stopping in while I'm at a friend's to say I miss you all horridly. It should only be a few more weeks until I have a new computer so hopefully I'll be seeing you soon. (The darn exclamation doesn't work on this keyboard ) Not much new with me. I've been going insane trying to find things to keep me occupied. Of course I get inspired for a page or two right when I can't do one  I should be getting a decision on disability in a few months now. Please keep your fingers crossed and prayers for me.
Well, I'm going to get going. I may be able to check in again tomorrow, but if not...take care everyone and I'll see you when I get a new computer.:hug:Shana.. so good to see you.. and good luck with the new computer and the disablity decision.. we will still probably be here.. somewhere.. lol
Mine you can't really tell all that much that they are bifocals because they don't have that line all the way across the lens like what you think about when you think about bifocals. Just the little rectangle.
Gary says the ones I have right now make me look like a "school marm - kinda like you have more brains than you actually do." He thinks he's funny. :rofl:WOW Gary... that's cold! Rene.. seek revenge... buy him pink socks.
Wahooooo good to see you Shana! Hope you can come back soon
Thanks! They are desperately needed
LOL dh bought several weeks worth when his friend went to ID or something, so every time there is a drawing he checks then goes, dang guess I have to go to work.

This will be coming to live at my house for my birthday if it ever gets off back order. :D We ordered it before I found out about my hours, so now I wish it would hurry and ship before I decide it would be the right thing to do to cancel it. :)The backorder is generally about 2 weeks. I probably shouldn't tell you that, but after all the crapola going on... computers, phones, vehicles, jobs, muscles.. something nice is just what the doctor ordered !

(I do not drive at night if I can possibly help it, and when I do drive I stick to well lit streets).I'LL GO WITH YOU... I LOVE TO LIVE ON THE EDGE ! LOL

I have had glasses all my life .. extreme nearsightedness... i have both contacts AND (progressive lenses in my) glasses. I have no problem with either. The contacts are now for distance only and I need cheaters if I have the contacts in and try to read. never had any issue adjusting to them either. My right eye is more deteriorated than the left one.. so I am pretty much 'one eyed". The poor vision in the right eye is due to an improperly shaped eye.. most are round but the back of mine is oval to the extreme and very slowly the retina is tearing. Thus making me an unsuitable candidate for lasik. And did I mention astigmatism? Oh yeah, let's throw that in there too ! LOL ! So, at this point in my life, i am grateful to have one decent eye to put up to the camera ! The deterioation is very slow, so i don't expect anything drastic to happen. It is what it is and very rarely think about it. Way TMI, huh?:rofl:
We are going to my older son, Tim's, house for Superbowl. I am in charge of the spiked punch and beef stew (of all things) .. and I'll probably make some chicken wings or ribs.. depends on what tickles my fancy.. It should be a house full.. Me, Robin, Bud, Tim, his girlfriend Santana, her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister, and various of their friends and significant others.. should be a good time.. and it's doubtful i'll make it to the end of the game.. it starts around 8pm EST i think.. I'm ususally dead by 10. I'm thinking the old folk will leave after half time.. oh yeah, gotta see The Who play ! Looking forward to Sunday and Saturday will be spend cooking and Sunday morning finishing up.
Boy, I don't talk much for a while and then just charge in ! Slap me silly.

Gundi - without his contacts or glasses on, DH cannot see the big E. They said he was 20-300. (I did not know it went up that high....shows you what I know). He is legally blind. He corrects to 20-20. Isn't that amazing?
yeah I was 20/450 in one eye and 20/400 in the other :D so yes I knew it went up that high and yes I was considered legally blind w/o my contacts. But the really cool thing is after lasik, I was 20/15 (better than dh which kinda bugged him)

The crick in my neck gets pretty bad.
that's funny, my vision started going downhill when I was pregnant the first time too. You gotta do something about your desk. It's not good to be hurting because of the computer. :(

Yay!!! I picked up my camera!! Well Thursday already, but just haven't been motivated to DL the pics.
I took these two in Dubai. The first one is on the way in and of the tallest building. The second one I took to show you just how dusty it was. There was a major wind blowing which made visibility really yuck. In the second photo behind the white building in the middle of the photo you can barely see the tallest building!

I was legally blind in both eyes.. before lasik...
then I was 20/20 in one eye..
20/30 in the other.. it was a MIRACLE!
I couldn't see the BIG E before.. or the CHART.. since about 3rd grade.. had to wear those thick coke bottle lens - white rimmed glasses - stylin'
I remember one year in HS - I begged my mom to get me contacts, and she wouldn't so, I told her I wouldn't wear my glasses or my watch (I don't remember why my watch - but kids who knows) for the entire school year outside the house)...So, they day before school started - I went to the HS, checked out where my locker was.. where each classroom was.. and, did just that.. left my glasses and watch at home for a full year.. ha.. taught her..
don't know what.. but, hey got contacts for my jr. year.. .
ok, I'm a brat..
but, didn't everyone know that already.
but, really.. white horned rimmed glasses... those were gross.

Yeah, Taxes are done.. and submitted...
Boo, Still have to do my daddy's taxes.. and, well, he has 3 forms to give me..
I've sent him a piece a paper with the 3 forms he needs to give me..
he's lost it, I've sent it again.. I've emailed it to them.
I've handed it to him again. - I put in on the corkboard in the kitchen with a thumbtack
but, it has lost 5 copies of this piece of paper with way big print listing the 3 forms he needs.
he says he has them... but can't remember where they are..
He gets a refund... he always does..
At least since they sold their home, I don't have to do itemized deductions... that was horrible, since he got dementia... and he used to be the most organized person I knew.
he taught me taxes.. and bookkeeping.. and now, he can't find 3 little forms..
It's amazing how many years, we have to put in for an extension, simply because I can't get thru to him in time to get those 3 forms... arrghh...
But, I wouldn't quit doing this for him no matter what...

The difference in eyesight with me is that I'm legally blind in my left eye, when it's corrected!! (Due to a disease) I haven't driven at night in years and years and years. I'm fine if there's no headlights in front of me or behind me. Oh, yeah,as as long as there's nothing going on out of the ordinary. You know, like two lanes, or construction, or people stopped along side of the road; stuff like that. My eyes/brain just cannot process what's going on.

Sands, every time you post photos I call my entire faily in to look at them. You are so talented, it gives me chill bumps.
No, they said my "eye stuff" was not RT. I have chronic iritis from the ankylosing spondylitis. My biggest editing job when ever I post a layout that I am in is to edit out the redness and the gross veins in my eyes.
Last Sunday, at church, someone asked me what was wrong with my eyes. I told them I had smoked a couple of joints before I left the house.

If I come see you, can we call a cab at night?
Kev told the school today that he "respectfully declines his option to go to County".... they adore him and thought it was kinda funny and said "it isn't an option". He said "it is if my parents don't take me there" and the teacher said "I'll take you".. he said "I don't drive with strangers, and technically YOU are a stranger, I only know your name.. and who says that is even your real name?" .... they cracked up laughing. He asked the teacher "can I pay you off?" .... rotfl!!
Love his sense of humor!!!
:rofl::rofl: He is kinda funny :D
Don't ever encourage him, it just makes him worse! :D

Drew was born legally blind in his right eye, although I didn't know it until he was almost 3. He was in the Early Childhood Intervention program due to his speech delay (he was talking, saying lots of words, and then suddenly at about 15 months old he abruptly stopped-which is another reason I think he has very mild autism/Aspergers). But anyway, his speech therapist and I both noticed that his right eye was beginning to cross. We went to an eye specialist and he said Drew has a rare congenital condition called PHPV (persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous ) which basically means the blood vessel in the eye that pumps blood to the eye while it's forming before the baby is born, never went away like it was supposed to, so that tissue was blocking his vision, telling his brain "this eye doesn't work" so it was crossing due to lack of use. We then were sent to a specialist in San Antonio who recommended aggressive patching of the good eye to try to force the bad eye to work better.
The doctor had told me that Drew was not going to like the patch because he would basically be blind when he had it on. He said at his age (3) that the main thing was for me to be in control from the beginning and not ever allow him to take it off from day one. You should have seen me and Drew rolling around in the floor the first day I put that patch on him. 3 year olds can be quite strong when they wanna be. :) He was determined he was going to take it off and I was determined he wasn't. It was so hard to watch his walk into walls and stuff. It broke my heart. Eventually he accepted that he had to wear the patch. But he never wanted me to take it off or put it on in front of anyone. They didn't expect it was going to help much, but wanted to be aggressive anyway. So after years of patching and lots of prayer from the people at the church we went to in Sterling City, he went from 20/700 to about 20/70 in that eye.
A few years ago, the lens in his eye ruptured inexplicably and he had to have a lens implant. But that didn't help the vision because they say that his is more of a brain problem. His brain has told that eye for so many years that it doesn't work, so it's not going to suddenly start working now. Crazy, huh?

Wow, Laura.. your DD will have a plethora of universities to choose from
Lucky girl!
Which is kinda funny, because I think she's going to choose the one that is closest to home, not as fancy, the smallest of all of them, in a boring city compared to the others... when she could go to the others that are more attractive to the young crowd for shopping, activities, partying (she doesn't party), and are larger (much) and have over 1,000 kids who live on campus rather than just half that. She's a smart kid and has chosen her school with grace and intelligence, and doesn't give two rats about what others think about her choice. Her school has a great reputation for the program she's going to go into, and she loves that it's not in our city but close enough to come home often, and we can go see her too. I could absolutely go up and have lunch with her and come back home if she/I wanted. She wants to maintain a relationship with her little brother, he's not quite 13 yet (in a few weeks), and she wants to see her daddy more often too (he was gone most of her life due to military commitments). She's still very young, only 16 right now, so of course I am loving her choice. I can still be mommy to her! Yay!
But she's happy anyways to be accepted to the others because they are impacted campuses and she was thinking she'd never have a chance and she also was worried her age would work against her. So she's happy for the chance, even if she doesn't take it. It's boosted her confidence.

It sounds like she has great self-esteem. That's so great. With her being so young, I'm sure you are so glad she is choosing the closer school. You'll have fun going up and having mom/daughter time with her.

CaroD, when you next come on here, could you kindly explain to me what an r09 error is? I keep getting this on my camera (Nikon D70s) and it's frustrating me to no end!it's nothing to worry about.. your camera is telling you how many images you can shoot before the buffer is filled, based on your current setting... ie. RAW, burst mode., image quality etc.
for example r09 means there is room for 9 images, r06 means it has room for 6 images etc.
Ah what the heck is the buffer, you no doubt ask... it's basically a storage bin.
if you are shooting in burst mode (which can be up to 8 frames per second in some cameras) the camera processor cannot possible process that fast, so the images are stored in a buffer. When that buffer becomes full, the shutter release will lock until the buffer is once again empty...
Your camera is just doing it 's job by telling you all the information it thinks you need to know about what it can do for you.

As a parent, i was very pleased with the level of individuality and personal attention the students received.. as well as being able to have more flexibility in constructing an individual ciriculum if the student needed it. (for example. tims schoold did not offer forensic pshychology per say.. BUT ,, when a young lady did an internship with the FBI, she began to veer towards the forensic aspect for her Masters... the school was able to tailor a specific ciriculum to address her needs. She was accepted into the FBI's training program directly from college and is now a profiler specializing in major crimes- kidnapping, murder etc. ) I highly doubt a larger university would be so caring/compliant-managing thousands is far different than managing hundreds..
Becuase the campus was a smaller, more intimate environment, it was easier to get to know other students, know what was going on and in general form stronger bonds . Much more pleasant to be a "big fish in a small pond" .
It sounds like her choice will be one that is a correct fit FOR HER.. so many kids fail college selection in that they want to go somewhere totally different.. but don't realize t he difference in living in such an environment.. total shock. and one reason many kids fail out or transfer. She has her head on her shoulders.

Thanks Carolyn. I think she'll do well. She told us that so many of her friends are choosing their college based on things like "is there a beach?" "is there a cool mall?" .. "are there hot girls/guys?"... "good partying?" and things of that nature. She said they were all flabbergasted when she told them "I want a school that doesn't have all that, I don't need it. I will be busy studying and won't have time for all that stuff. My free time will be spent with family." ... they are alwys in such awe that she actually LIKES us... and LIKES spending time with us. I am very close to my daughter, she comes to me for nearly (if not all) everything... her friends think that is so weird that she likes her momma. Those kids are always on their myspaces saying how they hate their parents, want the heck out of town, want to go party and be free etc etc etc. I don't care what or why they choose what they choose, but I hate that they put down my kid for wanting to stay close to home. Just about everyday they ask her "Why??!! That is so dumb" ... so now she just says "yes I know it's so dumb that I enjoy my family. What am I thinkin!!??" and laughs it off. She says "someday they will see WHY.... and for them it will be too late to get that back with their families". My kid is so smart in so many ways! :love2: She always tells her little brother "don't be like my friends are.. they are dumb". I don't know that they are dumb, I think the reasons they are using to choose their college is probably pretty normal for the majority of this age group, no matter what state or family they are in. My daughter doesn't realize that she's really, in all retrospect, probably the one that is not 'normal'....and I love that she's not 'normal'!

It takes much longer with adults who have very 'set" pathways, but children have far more sucess in less time as their brains are not yet set in their ways.
You've heard of people who have had a limb amputated yet that limb still feels "itchy or sore" sometimes... it's because the brain is receiving messages from the remaining nerves telling it the missing limb (which brain thinks is still there) is itchy..and sends the response to the hand to scratch/rub it.
Same would be true of Drew's eye... a lifetime of 'non functional eye" has conditioned that part of the brain which would respond to that eye's impulses has become non functional itself...

Dad deployed.. can receive moving orders at any time... she grew up knowing the central, constant and consistant core of her life WAS HER FAMILY and could always count on that even if everything else changed ! She, in many ways, is wise beyond her years..and mature saying to her friends why she chooses as she does. And she is right, someday her friends WILL find out what she has been enjoying all along.

I wish they had known more about brain reconditioning when Drew was little so that maybe we could have retrained his brain to use that eye, but the knowledge just wasn't there at the time. He has glasses now to help that eye, as well as some normal vision issues in the other eye. He should wear them all the time, but doesn't. The main point at the time when we did all that patching was to try to get the other eye to be somewhat functional in case he lost is good eye.

Rather than use an actual patch some Md's use a fuzzy lens over the good eye, which does allow some vision.. depends upon what that individual dr has had most sucess with . The dr probably said it was "retraining" the bad eye.. but still the same thing. neural reconditioning..

Bia was premature, then at the age of 2 weeks she had SUIDS. We resuscitated her, but she went for over 3 minutes without breathing. For a few minutes after she was resuscitate she was paralyzed from the waist down and was nonresponsive to deep pain. So, we knew there was some brain damage; we were just going to have to wait and see how much.
I know most of you have heard that story, but here is the part you have not heard. To catch the novices up - at the age of 5 she tested at a mental age of 3. She was 4 before she had any significant verbal skills. She still has significant issues with balance (she is 16 and cannot ride a bike), she has some fine and gross motor skill problems, she cannot grasp the concept of sarcasm (she doesn't understand and it just leaves her puzzled), and she has significant problems with short term memory, which makes learning horribly difficult.
She now tests normal for age in every single area and just within THE PAST WEEK her reading has shot from 150 words per minute to 230 AND she consistently scores 100 on reading comprehension on the timed tests. Math has always been horribly difficult. She made a 90 on her algebra midterm exam. AND - all of a sudden, she can spell! Well, she can spell some; prior to this she could spell none at all. I had totally given up on spelling - it took up a tremendous amount of time with almost no return. No matter how much time we spent, she could not spell. I continued to make her take spelling tests every week, but I made her do it on the computer and use spell check. Every single time I think, "Well, we have hit her learning ceiling," we persevere and God turns on another lightbulb in her little brain. I know another part of her brain is taking over, and it makes me SOB. I am overwhelmingly grateful for every success she has, and I feel like I should go around the world and tell people about neural reconditioning and tell them NEVER GIVE UP. We have horrible, extensive periods where we see no improvement at all. Never give up.

Fran - what a wonderful story! I'm afraid I've never really learned that much about you and your family. What you have revealed in the last two days - well, all I can say is wow! Life has not always been kind, but your attitude is amazing. Hugs!

Well, since we have told all these stories:
The boys were born 8 weeks premature. They weighed 3 lb 3.7 and 3 lb 4 ounces. DS#2 was given 20 minutes of blow by O2 just as a precaution, but neither boy ever had any issues with lungs or hearts. It wasn't until they were 3 that we began having health issues, most related to severe allergies to trees and grass. They had extensive tests done on their eyes and appeared to be extremely healthy their as well. But in Kindergarten with all the reading, I noticed that they were pulling the papers really close to their faces so I had them tested. Sure enough they have "lazy eye". And yes, it is both boys, both in the left eye. It is a focal ambliopia (I'm sure I've spelled that wrong) rather than muscle, making it harder to treat. They discussed patching them, but decided that it really would do no more than just the corrective lenses. Now, we have 4 of 5 of us in the house having to wear glasses. So what does DD want for her birthday? Yep, she complains all the time because she doesn't have any glasses. I've thought of giving her frames with nothing in them, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea. I'm almost afraid that seeing the frame wouldn't train her brain to need the frame, if you know what I mean, and I'm afraid that her desire is almost big enough that she would really wear them too often. We'll see what their eyes are like next week as all 3 have an appointment for a check up.

it's nothing to worry about.. your camera is telling you how many images you can shoot before the buffer is filled, based on your current setting...
I was trying to shoot from the macro setting, and I had just turned on my camera and my 2gig card was empty!

Crys - it wasn't the card, but the on board buffer that "thought" it was full, or nearly so.
Carolyn - do those cameras require a reboot every now and then?

Wow!! I love to hear stories like this. Too often kids think they have to go along to fit in
No, I can't even get in. :(

I was trying to shoot from the macro setting, and I had just turned on my camera and my 2gig card was empty! :eek:It has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR CARD... the buffer is inside your camera.. and obviously, your camera was telling you that you could take 9 images before the buffer would be full based on your settings.. nothing more than that.

Crys - it wasn't the card, but the on board buffer that "thought" it was full, or nearly so. no.. it was the camera telling her that at her current settings, it would take 9 images to fill the buffer...
Carolyn - do those cameras require a reboot every now and then?I only do a reset if a) there is something quirky going on 2) if I have been changing multiple settings and I just want to hit 2 buttons to reset my defaults... which is not a bad habit to get into if you are in the habit of making really odd changes to your settings.. will help prevent forgetting you've made them the next time you shoot and totally bomb out an image that otherwise would have been wonderful .

Laura, I know you would love to have her closeby next year. And I love the way she thinks. Smart young lady.
Rene, I knew Drew had worn a patch, but I didn't know that whole story. That must have been extremely tough with a 3 year old. Glad he's improved so much. A lens rupture sounds horrible. yikes.
Fran, OMG! I did not know that about Bia. It must be so exciting for you to see her improving so much. She is such a beautiful girl. God is good! (I'm all goose-bumpy now)
Lisa, another great story. How wonderful that neither of the boys had "major" complications at birth. I can see why you'd be hesitant to give dd glasses though.
I missed a lot today. I have been having trouble not just in the store today but also in the gallery. So I had ditched the computer for my book and just watched a Duke game. That'll teach me
Wow Fran, what an amazing story! Do you homeschool Bia?
We started homeschooling shortly after 7th grade started because she was not getting to have a life. She went to school all day - I had a copy of her text books, and I read them while she was at school. As soon as she got home from school, we would have school again until bedtime. We studied every weekend and all summer long. Now we have school from 6:15am-4pm Monday through Friday, and about 5 hours over Saturday and Sunday. I know it sounds long, but most days, during the week, we do not look at a single book after 4PM. She gets to take 2 classes in the evening at Venture Theater, go to youth group on Wednesday nights at the church, and take a drama class with the Christian Home School Educators. Those are things she never had time to do when she was in regular school.

Hey, how are my gals? Sorry I haven't been around much this last week or so. My uncle passed away last week, the same day Dan left on a week long business trip. Needless to say it was not a good week. Luckily I have really good friends (ughmmm...Lisa ;) and others who really helped me get through the week till Dan got home.
We're getting ready for our big annual Super Bowl party tomorrow. We usually have it as an "anti-super bowl" party and kinda watch the game but mainly do it for the commercials :) This year though we are going all out because our friends are huge Colt fans and they wanted to have a party at their place, but since I can't get up the stairs we offered to do it at our house. I don't know who is more excited, them or us. So the house is pretty much all clean, food is bought minus a few last minute things to get in the morning including the makings for the little smokies (thanks for the recipe Carolyn!)
I'm also getting back into a scrapbooking mood so hopefully I'll have more pages coming out soon! Thanks to Lisa who came over the other night to show me how to utilize my tablet....I am really enjoying working with this newer one! I have also entered the Trendsetters contest. My first layout probably won't make it past round 1 because I completely forgot that it was due yesterday!
I started taking these vitamins about a week ago and man they sure make the difference! I finally feel like I am getting back into the swing of things! Now if I can just figure out how to give them to Mac :) He's been quite out of sorts lately and I am not sure why.
Well, someone please fill me in on what all is going on in here, I am so behind!
