I will tell you what does not make me hoppy and that would be having to get the spring on my garage door fixed. grrrrr I thought mine had a 5 yr warranty on it, which was just under the 5 years, except apparently the dude has gone out of business, so pretty much too bad so sad. can I say I am sick of things breaking this year?!

When I was in Charleston visiting, Mama's garage door got hit by lightning.....which made it continuously going up and down, up and down, up and down.....nonstop. What a racket! And Mama did not know where the breaker to the garage was.....we had to listen to it going up and down, up and down, up and down, etc., until the repairman could get to the house.

So tomorrow is our 9th Anniversary, and DH is sitting in India! He wanted me to fly out and join him in India which would probably have been a good idea, but I wasn't so sure about a single woman walking around the streets of Mumbai taking photos during the day while he worked till 9pm.

I suggested that we go away, just the two of us, for a long weekend when he gets back. He said we could look at it, which to me meant "Go for it" :D. So I started looking for some summer specials, and saw that Oman Air have a summer package with some of the resorts in Maldives, I didn't realise it was only 3 hours flight from us. I've made enquiries and they eventually came back to me with some prices, which I forwarded to DH, and he's agreed that we can go!!!

So this time next week, I'll be sipping on a glass of red wine, while wallowing in a jacuzzi in our private water villa in the Maldives! I've made arrangements with two of the kids friends parents for them to stay 2 nights with each of them, so they are taken care of!!! I'm very excited. We won't be diving, but will certainly be snorkling since our Water Villa has its own personal access to the water.

Whatcha think huh?

So here is the extended version about the garage door -

Daddy was in the throws of dying from lung cancer, and Mama was stressed beyond belief.......now the VERY noisy garage door is going up and down and up and down and up.........

We cannot find the breaker to stop the garage door......we cannot get to the plug.......

Up and down and up and down....

So, Mama calls the garage door people. They say they cannot come for a couple of hours......she let's loose with several paragraphs worth of profanity that would have made a sailor blush........I grab the phone from her, run out into the front yard (where she cannot hear me) and apologize profusely. I tell the guy that Daddy is dying, Mama is stressed, and that if he will PLEASE come and stop the racket, that I will make certain that Mama does not come within 50 yards of him. He came immediately, bless his soul.

Hey everyone. Sorry I've been MIA. I was in the hospital since Thursday. Things got really bad here for a bit...my mom was diagnosed with cancer again and it just put me over the edge. I'm home now though and feeling a better. I started ECT while I was in the hospital and it seems to be working. I have my next treatment on Thursday. I feel hopeful now...thank gosh.

Mom is still in the hospital with an infection and receiving chemo. The first thing I did today when I got out was go to see her. She seemed in good spirits and was happy to see me. I guess she's upset because her hair's already falling out from what my sister told me, but it's better to be bald then suffering.

My sister and brother-in-law really stepped up with my father while we were both in the hospital. They came and mowed the lawn, checked his meds with me on the phone, made sure he was eating...It didn't surprise me that they did it, I figured they would be willing to step up to the plate.

So I'm going to try to catch up here in the next few days. I can't guarantee it will be soon, because I have an annoying headache from the treatments. I'm pretty tired too, but I was able to fight that in the hospital and I'm trying to again today. :D I hope everyone's doing well and thank you SO MUCH for your thoughts and prayers.

wahooooooooooooooo I got my new pen tablet. All installed and I have been using it this am. It has customizable buttons, so now I need to figure out what I want each button to do. The really cool thing is you can actually make it so pushing a button does different things in one program than it does in a different program. Cool, huh?!

As far as your mom's hair is concerned, as someone who has lost their hair, I can tell you --- when it comes to life and death, hair is a non-issue. Buy your mom a couple of beautiful scarves. You can even contact the American Cancer Society and they could possibly send someone to show your mom some beautiful and creative ways to tie the scarves. I am praying praying praying.

Edit: If the American Cancer Society does not have anyone who knows how to tie scarves, call United Way. Now that I think about it, around here it is the United Way that does that kind of thing. Where is your mom?

Thank you so much everyone. It really means a ton to me. I finally got the chance to get caught up this morning...so here goes!!! :D

I would hop on plane and come to your house if we could go to Chicago and see a musical.......

and while you are hopping stop by in SLC, we have plays here too :)

I think you should all take me! LOL

Shana, my heart is breaking for you. ((((((((hugs)))))))) I will pray diligently for you.

Thanks for the thoughts and info PQ, I'm going to talk to my mom about that today. I'm going to see her after I see my therapist.

So the ECT really seems to be working. I was able to get up and out of bed fairly easily this morning...which was really becoming a problem before I went into the hospital. I've had a few problems with short term memory lapses, but they say it comes back. Just simple stuff like I forgot whether I made my psychologist's appointment for today or tomorrow. I was able to call first thing and see, so it wasn't that big a deal. I get a headache and a little dizzy the day of the treatment, and can't drive that day for that reason, but as they decrease the amount of treatments I receive over time, that shouldn't be much of a problem either. I just won't schedule anything else those days, or have my father drive me. (Thank gosh he can still drive!)

My sister and brother came up to the house last night and started to help us clean. With everything that's gone on the past few years, stuff has really piled up. Nothing like health department issues, just a lot of clutter. Dad and I both tried to help, but I was having a hard time staying awake and upright and his back was giving him problems. I didn't think my brother would visit me in the hospital or help out at all, but he's really surprising me. I feel bad for doubting him now. It was embarassing for him to see the state of the house since we haven't had company in so long, but it's a good thing. I just have to keep telling myself that! It just got to be that it was so overwhelming for me, I'd end up crawling back into bed. (It's embarrasing to admit, but I'm tired of lying about why people can't come over and such.)

Guess what! I met an amazing man in the hospital! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo: He's 36 and get this...his name is Edward (no I don't like him for the twilight name :rofl::rofl:) He has two kids from his wife (they've been separated for 3 years now.) He was in there for the same reasons I was....just being overwhelmed and ready for a change. We talked ALL the time and shared so much with each other that by the end of my stay I felt like I knew him forever. There was just this awesome connection. We both got discharged yesterday...and he promised he'd call me. I got the phone call last night!!! He wants to take me out to a movie or something when he gets back in town from getting some stuff he needs at his parent's place. I'm so happy, but nervous at the same time. We're both damaged from past relationships, but he is a genuinely good man. I hope that if things work out, we can help each other heal. I honestly can see myself with him for a while.

Well, now that I've typed my fingers off, I should probably go start getting ready to see my mom. Thanks again guys for all your well wishes and prayers...things are starting to move in the right direction. I was definitely reminded in the hospital to take things even a second at a time if I have to.

Ive not been around much cause I been bussyyy busy helping DD get packed up for her new life..... oh and shopping for that new life too. She's expensive! LOL!

Two weeks from today.... *sigh*

She's doing better though. Scared still, but doing a little better. She took some stress off her shoulders by breaking up with her boyfriend and honestly, I couldn't be happier about it!! He's a nice kid, just not nice enough for MY kid.... ahahahahah... ok, seriously now, he's nice... but he was always full of excuses and such and my kid is wayyyy too smart, she wasn't putting up with that. He kept telling people "she's too good for me... " (and he's right.... LOL!) ... and DD's response was "he sure doesn't act like it, he acts like Im beneath him, he has no time for me"..... so last week, she 'had enough' and ended it. She cried the first day or two, sobbed actually.... but she knew it needed to be done. She was missing out on too much, at only 17yo, because she was always waiting on his stupid schedule to fit her in. So... she ended it and now, one week exactly today, she's doing much better and is happily being the crazy and silly girl that she is! I think she's also loving the idea of starting college and moving into the dorms without having a boyfriend, for now.

Her very best guy friend moved away, to his college.... and he's LOVING it, so I'm hoping that is helping her to relax a little bit, and see the fun in it. But she also read the facebook, for her friends University, and a few of the kids were saying how they literally have gone back to their dorms and CRIED ... already... and school for them just started on Tuesday! They said it's already soooo much harder than they ever expected, tons of homework already, etc..... So that scares her.....
Her friend has been sending her pics about their shinanigans they been up to, ALREADY, in the dorms... how fun!!! I said "seeeeee.... who said you had to act like an adult...look at those pics, do they LOOK like they are acting like ADULTS?".. she laughed and said "well nooo... they acting like 5 year olds actually.." LOL!!! They been playing tag, nerf gun fights, knock n ditch, etc.... sureee it won't be like this every night, or even everyyyy week...but at least she's able to see that she CAN act like a little kid still, if she wants to.

:-)

No matter what I did yesterday, I had to sign in every single time. That is not happening today.

Me, too. Today I can't stay logged in.

Well, today I'm off to do a photo shoot for a great friends' 25th anniversay party.. They are in their mid 70's (so not their first marriage).. but, they are

so happy together....

I told them they were going to have to like smooch and, act like they looooveed each other.. they just looked at each other and cracked up...

Should be fun..

But, But, their son just got back from interviewing Paul McCartney, and, Yoko Ono...

I really want to spend the whole time tallking to him..

His mom - the one I'm taking photos of.. has photos of (the son - with Willie Nelson, Kris K., yoko Ono, Julian Lennon, Lyle Lovitt, Eric Clapton.. and, many more.. just can't think of them all right this second.. )... Who is this son of her's.. i don't even know his name.. But, I'll know more today.. hmm..

That sounds fun. I get to sign up girls for violin lessons, go to swim lessons and cart one to a birthday party.

Party? When? Where? Will I need a new dress? Should I bring a date?

No dress, we are going casual.

Gosh, I wonder who you would bring.. hmmm..

and, what color dress.. let me guess..

PINK???

and, JOHNNY???

No, dress and, a date.

A, pretend date..

OK - we have the AOK from Crys for the party at her house.

NO DATES: This is a girls' night out

ATTIRE: Casual

We would meet at Crys' house and then we would go into Chicago to see a musical........what else would we do?

The only thing left to plan is the date of this shindig........and where will we stay? CRYS! Oh Crys!!! If we have a shindig at your house, where could we stay?

Why can't we all stay at her house? Like a slumber party???

Oh, how exciting! :D

At my house, of course.

Why can't we all stay at her house? Like a slumber party???

Yeah, like that!

We have two guest rooms. One is masculine themed (think dark green and ducks) and has a double bed; the other is smallish, very feminine (think pink) and has a daybed, with a trundle. Then, we also have a queen-sized Aero bed. You know, the kind that's higher up and not right on the floor.

The only downfall is we only have one bathroom.  But, we have an extra shower head in the basement. Just that, though, no walls, no curtain, no nothing but a shower head. :yikes: :yikes: And we do have a bathroom with a commode and sink in the garage. It's filthy dirty, looks like only men would enter, but it's available if you're desperate (you would have to be, to enter! ;)) and does have a door and a bottle of liquid soap.

So..........come on over, y'all!

If you come now, it's way too hot, but if you come toward the end of September, you could watch corn and beans being harvested. :D Oh, yes, you could also experience the sound of the wind rustling the drying corn in the fields. That's kinda cool.

The drive to the train station, about an hour. The ride on the train, about an hour, but only costs $10, round trip. Our tickets for the show were $107, taxes included, about which my loving and kind DH had a total $hi# fit, so I'll be waiting for you outside the theater.

Oh! Of course one day of fishing costs about that much, too. Buy, oh my, that's way different. The difference, you might ask? Well, he goes fishing quite regularly and this was the first play I've gone to with girlfriends since I've known him. Oh, about 21 years. :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed: :help:

OK - we have the AOK from Crys for the party at her house.

NO DATES: This is a girls' night out

ATTIRE: Casual

We would meet at Crys' house and then we would go into Chicago to see a musical........what else would we do?

The only thing left to plan is the date of this shindig........and where will we stay? CRYS! Oh Crys!!! If we have a shindig at your house, where could we stay?

What? No date? No pretty pink dress & tiara?:eek::eek:

Oh, how exciting! :D

At my house, of course.

You know the rest of them might be blowing smoke, but I really want to come.....I was thinking about late October.....like the weekend before Halloween. (But you have to remember....no walking).

Hey ladies!! How is everyone doing? What's this about bathing at the fountain in the Bellagio? LOL

Mom's home. She's still having trouble walking, but they didn't want her to come down with MRCA or anything like that, so they discharged her. We've been busy cleaning and cleaning for her return, and still have a lot to do, but it's starting to take shape. :D I've been getting out more, which is a darn good thing. I spent a lot of time with my friend Leann this weekend, and she told me if things keep up (she can tell I'm doing much better,) she'd hire me back part time in an instant! That was an awesome moment for me, since I miss my job a lot.

So Eddie comes into town on Wednesday. I can't wait. We have dates set up for Wednesday night and Friday already...he's meeting some friends on them. He wants to meet my family too, which is scary but exciting. I know they'll love him. He's such a good guy. I'm trying so hard to take things slow, but it's like my heart and mind don't want to cooperate with that. We're both trying really, being in the situations we're in. We'll see how it goes. He makes me feel like a queen.

ECT is going well. The doctor decided that with the improvement I've shown, I only need it once this next week, and then it will taper down to once every two weeks, then once a month. Besides the headache, dizzyness and short term memory loss the day of, I'm not having any side effects. My tongue is numb though...I guess I must have done something to it while I was under anesthesia. LOL This has really been a life saver though....I've been able to look at my mom's prognosis (the doctor said there's a slim to no chance of remission) in the best possible light and get through the day without my mind taking me to dark places. I would do it again if I had to.

Well, that's been my life as of late. :D Now that I'm home I'll try to keep up more.

So here's my miracle story from this past week. When I picked my girls up from my mom's on Tuesday, mom told me that my dad had rolled the ATV on the farm while spraying brush in the back 40. I guess it flipped over three times, but somehow he stayed out from underneath. When it stopped, his legs were pinned underneath. He was able to pull one out, but he had to call his twin brother to help him get the other leg out. Thankfully, my DU was down from Chicago, otherwise help would have been quite a ways away. Still it took 15 min. before DU arrived and helped him get free. He walked away, with mainly bruises and scratches. He sprained his thumbs and a knee, and is still moving carefully, but it could have been so much worse.

Needless to say. This just reinforces my feelings about ATVs. I have had one student almost die driving through barbed wire, and my DH's boss was involved in an ATV accident that killed a young girl. But...all in all....we were incredibly fortunate!! Praise God.

:yikes::eek: Wow!!! What a story! but....:think::think: what's an ATV???

All-terrain vehicle

They are normally off road vehicles (in the US) they can be 3 or 4 wheelers..

A lot of people in say California use them in the desert - around say sand dunes. Not on roads.. Many areas you don't even need a driver's licence to use them (some depending on the size - you do need a license)..

Because of the speed.. and, say you have a 3 wheeler - they can flip easily - if you are not trained properly.

I have a great friend - he was in his mid-20's, but had never driven one before.. 2 guys were raising in the sand dunes.. his flipped.. and, the ATV fell on his ankle, crushing it. They were miles from any type of medical support (and, this was before cell phones were as popular as today - so not as many cell towers)..

Had they had a hospital down the street.. perhaps, they could have been able to do a better job for him, instead they had to FUSE his ankle to his leg (they added extra bone to make him be able to walk without a looking like one leg shorter than the other. ).. took him 6 - 8 months of rehab off of work.. and, he will never bend that foot again, and will always live with pain and a limp..

Here is a link to Honda's Sport ATV's..

My talks are done and I feel like I can relax again. I really hate talking in front of people and 2 times in 8 days was a bit too much. I am SO glad they are done and I don't have to think about that again any time soon. Knock on wood!!

I read through all the posts and it sounds like you are doing great!!

Crys, I'd love to come but will be in UT at the end of September.

Shana, glad things are going well and I'll keep on praying for ya.

Maggie, so glad your dad is ok. My DH rolled his 3 wheeler when he was early teens, into a barb wire fence and no one was around. Thanks heavens he made it home and got some help. He has scars all over his back from it. I do like riding at the dunes though. Even though we have a scary story about that also.

Have a great day!!

I love my ipAd........but the reason I love it is because I had A LOT of trouble seeing the stuff on the screen on the ipOd. I could easily watch a movie on my ipOd, but reading anything that was written was very difficult.

On the ipAd, you can pay a monthly fee and go on line no matter where you are, or you can just go on-line when you have access to wifi. I do not pay the monthly fee because my wireless card that I have for my laptop through Verizon can also be used as a "hotspot" ---- I can turn on my wireless card and up to four people can operate off of it at a time.

What my friend did, was made photo copies of each screen.

and, then made them a book.. So, they would say
know how to turn it on
put in their passwords
simple word or text documents

how to get to email

how to google something

all the most basic tasks

and, she put each page or group of page in sections

she inserted the pages in those clear (oh those clear page holders for binders).. so they would last...

she even made tabs for the sections..

and, as their knowledge grew, she added more pages..

it worked for them

my parent's took classes at a local communtity college, and but the class was geared specifically for seniors who had Never used a computer.

and, they walked away with a binder kind of like that..

and, really, my dad.. can

check emails,
play solitaire

upload photos.

and, he is happy.

and, I can walk him thru some system problems, but they have to be very very basic

oh, oh, the other thing both the class and, my friends book taught them
was to run their internet security software..

so, an IPAD is even bigger, and, does way more than a kindle (or any e-reader) does.

So you have one also?

I have a MAC ? again. How do I install my actions into PS? I really want to use some of them.

Well, you could! 007: But it would probably be a waste of time.

Where are you moving to?

In this housing market, probably nowhere, but we would like to move closer to my farm kids (southern Indiana) and DH's family (Kentucky). Those two locations are only about a 40 min. drive from each other.

Well that will be fun for you to be closer to them!

Guess what? My house goes on the market tomorrow too!!!!! Gary and I have decided it is time to downsize with no kids at home anymore. The yard is so big and takes so much upkeep and I am tired of cleaning 5 bathrooms, not to mention the rest of the house. Anyway, a couple weekends ago, we were driving around on our Sat morning coffee date and saw a smaller house with smaller yard, awesome landscaping, a shop with attached MIL apartment, and an RV pad in the back where we can park our RV and not have to have it stored. The addition we live in now has rules against that. So, if we can get what we want from our house, we will sell and buy this other house!

Good luck with the home sales!! Guess what?? We are probably not selling our house anytime soon. We "inherited" this house from my in-laws when they downsized, and will probably have it until we downsize. So....I shall remain here with the bats, coons, deer, fox, oh yeah, a neighbor said a coyote has moved into the area....glad I live in town :)

We are looking to move too... but I don't think we will sell this house. It's nearly paid off and I love my house, just wish it had larger backyard. It could make for a great investment property, if we rent it out as nearly ever penny of it would go to our pockets except for upkeep...... we just haven't decided yet. I think we may move to Tehachapi, the mountains just a few mins from our house. But, we shall see..... DH would move tonight if he could. LOL

Good luck on your home sales, ladies... and your new home purchases.

My hubby would move to the mountains tonight if he could too. He loves the mountains! Yep 5 bathrooms is a bit much! When we built this house, Drew was still in junior high, Emily was with us every other weekend and we thought Lindsey was going to live with us while she went to college. Drew's now on his own, Emily doesn't come as much and Lindsey's about to get married and move away probably. It's just too much house. And Gary would rather play golf than mow for hours! :)

Wow, guys! Rene - I can't imagine needing 5 bathrooms! Even with 3 kids we do with 1.5! And the .5 has the washer/dryer in it so is barely usable as a bath. Of course, we have discussed trying to find a 4 bedroom so that we can turn the 4th bedroom into a classroom. It would be so nice to have desks for the kids so that they aren't always running into each other while they work. I would put my office in that same room so that I can be on the computer but still there to help and teach.

Ah, you guys got me to dreaming again!

Speaking of bathrooms.....my 8 year old was taking potions class during her shower last night. This morning we found the shampoo and condition mixed together and it appears that my face cleanser was used to coat every available surface. I think I'm going to hook up a hose outside, and she can shower out there.

On a sad note, :cry:One of the caterpillars bit the dust. We are down to four at home, and two in Chrysalis at DH's school. Of course, there are still two Chrysalis outside at home, but with the guard wasp, I'm not going near them!!!

I'm back from our Maldives trip armed with some photos. Our trip was really amazing. Maldives is just beautiful! The thing that tickled me pink was that we boarded this A330 plane, full of people from Muscat. When we got to Maldives, DH and I were the only ones, barring 2 Maldivian men to get off the plane!!!! DH and I found it extremely amusing that they would land the plane for 4 passengers to get off! The airport was completely empty!!!! They didn't even bother putting on the turnstiles for our luggage, they opened the door and personally handed us our luggage! DH and I giggled about it for a very long time!

On arriving at the resort, we were gobsmacked at its beauty and how friendly and organised the staff are! Our room was absolutely beautiful! We got a free bottle of red wine on arrival, which I thoroughly enjoyed while sitting in the jacuzzi overlooking the beautiful lagoon.

Wednesday we went diving. First we had to do an orientation dive, to check our weights etc. Then in the afternoon we went on a boat dive. It was a very exciting dive! We watched and swam with 5 huge Manta Rays! They come to this portion of the reef to be cleaned by the cleaner wrasses. They swam over low over the reef and the tiny fish came up to clean then, then at the end of the the tiny reef, they would circle over us and come back to the "cleaning station". Sometimes they would come over us so close to us, that they almost touched our heads. When I download those photos I will drop them here too. It was a magnificent dive! The smallest Manta was 2m (6.5ft) and the largest was 4m (13ft). What an awesome experience.

Here are my photos uploaded to facebook of the resort etc.

Hi all! I haven't been around much the last couple of days. We went to the State Fair on Thursday and had a blast. The kids rode as many rides as we could afford (thank goodness for buddy days which meant everything from admission to rides was 2 for 1). And we even had good weather. Although it started out grey like it might rain, it ended up very sunny. But most of all I just have to share this one photo for our Texas gals:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs628.snc4/58844_148458125186040_100000655602436_291594_42766 92_n.jpg (http://www.facebook.com/people/Lisa-Conway/100000655602436#!/photo.php?pid=291594&id=100000655602436&ref=fbx_album)

Heather: I pray your mother will do well.

And: I was so sore after all that time at the fair, I ended up sitting on the couch most of yesterday and finishing a book. If you haven't read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and the others, you really should. Although the subject is really rough, they are fabulously written and they really kept me going. I still need to get the 3rd one, but it's not in paperback yet. I may have to get it at the library, but the waiting list is so long.....

Given how much bigger it is, if global warning makes Alaska that much smaller, we're ALL in trouble. The state formally known as Texas could end up being Oklahoma and Arkansas' beachfront property.

I think the new coach is going to be good. We didn't play that well today, but I think that is to be expected considering it's our first game with him. It was so hot today at the game. I didn't go (Emily had my ticket) but watched from home. Emily fainted at the game. They had a new concession company who didn't plan well and there was not enough water for everyone. Paramedics were everywhere. Gary said about the time Emily passed out, another little old man got sick and fainted and was not doing well at all. :( They said the temp of the turf was 148 degrees!!!
