Since you all know how much I like to chat, I thought I would start a little thread where you could pop in and tell me what is going on with you and find out what is going on with me. :D
My first little bit of news is NOT good! DS1 knocked my EHD off of the table last night and it is toast!   I lost some of my very newest designs, cuz I had the majority of them backed up. Just yesterday when I finished a kit, I thought tomorrow, I need to go thru and make sure everything is all backed up the way I need it. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

He, he, kids - you gotta love 'em! I hope you're telling yourself that it wasn't his knocking it off the table that caused the problem, it really would've crashed anyway, so it really wasn't his fault! Thank goodness you had most of your stuff backed up!

Too sad! That's why my EHD is wireless. It sits high up on the TV Console. Takes a ladder for me or DH to reach, let alone the kiddos. BTW, love your kits!

That is a fab idea Lisa!
Yeah I hear you Paula, it took all I could do not to wring his skinny little neck. He definitely had the "oh crap, I could die here" look on his face. The thing that saved him besides I love him, of course, was that he wasn't screwing around or anything, just tripped and knocked it off.

Actually, I'm having great time with your challenges and your kits. Having lots of little boy pictures gives me lots of material to use!

Chris, at least he was honestly sorry about it. I couldn't punish my Michael either when I know he's apologetic. Lately he's in the "I'm sorry" stage.
Raphne, DH wants me to get a 1TB EHD and/or IHD. Ahh gotta love them IT techs...

Oh goodness no! I am loving it, but gosh still feeling overwhelmed. :D Especially with the craziness of summer and school starting soon. Plus there is so many details to learn, little stuff like how to get stuff in the store. Let me tell you there is so much that you never have any clue about.

I spent most of the day working on a kit today and I can't wait until you all see it. It even has my least favorite color (orange) in it and I have to say I think it turned out great! If you are scratching you head wondering why I would do one with a color that I don't like, it is because my ds2 does like it and has lots of clothes in orange.

Now, that sounds like a VERY good reason to me!
My DS has just started expressing a distinct preference in his clothing. Red. Which is good, because Mommy likes him in red, but sometimes the laundry fairy hasn't been by in a while and all the red shirts are dirty, and he isn't very cooperative about picking something else LOL!
DD is very notional as well, but she's far more fickle!

Today is my son's birthday, he turned 8. I can't believe how fast he is growing up. He wanted to go to McDonald's for lunch today so we invited his friends to join us. We had a mini party in McDonald's. He wanted to pay for his friends lunches so DH gave him some money so he could do that. He was very excited about his birthday. He kept asking me this morning if it was time to go to McDonald's! He has been looking forward and counting down to his birthday.

Here's an update on my BIL, thanks to all of those who have asked and kept him in their prayers:
For anybody unaware, my BIL was in a horrible motorcycle accident 2 months ago.
He is slowly improving, still in ICU, but off the vent and they think they are getting close to removing the trach. They just want to make sure he will STAY off of the vent. His big problem right now is infection. He has 3 different infections, 1 of which is the super resistant bugs and another of which is in his back where all of the hardware for his broken back is, so they will have to treat that for at least 2 months and maybe even remove the hardware and replace it. We are hoping that won't be necessary. We think he is finally getting close to being out of the ICU and then he will be in rehab for an extended period of time. We are still unsure if he will be paralyzed or not. The really good news is that since he is off the vent, they are able to put a plug thing in the trach and so he can talk to us. That has been really frustrating for everyone that he couldn't communicate his wishes, so we are super happy about that change.

Wow, what a hard fight he's had! Sounds like he's one determined man, with a lot of prayers on his side. I'm glad he can finally communicate with you; that has to be one of the most heartbreaking and frustrating aspects of the whole nightmare.

LOL! Amazing how we get so caught up in this "hobby". It becomes our life's blood in a way. I stopped paying bills the other day so that I could get pictures of the craft project the kids were doing. Stopping meant logging out of the bank site and having to start over when I came back. We just have to get those shots for the next LO!

Obsession, addiction.. whatever. I am in denial and still say it's my hobby. So what I have 14+ pages of DSP products I want to buy. So what DH spent $400+ on a wide format printer plus more on scrapbooking products. So what I get into a fit if I don't see the charging light of my digital camera. So what I keep thinking of items to scrap. The latest is the day I found out I was pregnant with my 2 sons (July 12, 2005 and October 22, 2007). I bought a page kit to scrap those and I bought Kim's Azul page kit plus alpha. Going to either scrap Michael's 4 month birthday or Elijah's 1 month. Still deciding... :p Instead of seeing my children as well, my children. I see them as my next potential layouts.:lol::lol::lol:

which link, the one in my signature to my blog? or the one in the DSP gallery to my blog. I know that one was broken but I fixed it, I just tried my siggie one and it seemed to be working ok. Here is the link to my blog again just in case:

Hey for anybody who has gotten my blog kit freebie, but doesn't know what to do with it. :D I wrote up a tutorial and it is posted on my blog, if you want to see. I also submitted it to go into the campus but that usually takes a bit of time, so if you are in a hurry check my blog :)

Is it easy to tell what challenge we are on? the expectations and so on? It makes sense to me, since obviously I am the one that made it up, but that doesn't always translate well to others. :) LMK!

1) Of course we still love you! And how could you not be super excited about that fabulous kit? So, yeah, your story makes perfect sense to me!
2) as a REAL recent newbie (and now seriously addicted scrapper), I think I can offer some observations about the designer challenges. I'm fairly "computer comfortable" so I have to acknowledge that my observations may not be so true for people who are more, or less, internet savy than me.
One of the problems some designers have-- not you-- is that things get cluttered and out of order. Older challenges (which may have more recent posts) are listed before newer challenges, there may be a "sticky" or two after an older challenge but before a new one, you may have to sort through multiple threads to get the information you need. Archives might be at the top of the page and you might not notice that there is more recent information beneath it. Sometimes stickies aren't kept updated-- not a big deal for "how this works" type posts, but for "kits we've used" posts, if it isn't kept updated why is it cluttering things up?
Some designers-- again, not you!-- don't identify the dates of the challenge in the thread title. So you almost have to know what the challenge kits have been in order to figure out what's new. That's fine for those of us who are obsessed and do a lot of challenges from a particular designer, but not so great for those who have less time, less money, less obsession, or more self control. It also makes it harder to keep track of when things are due, and heaven knows I need all the help I can get there!
I think you've done a great job at making things clear. I know from the title what the kit is and what the dates of the challenge are, the current challenge is clearly identified, and you have a great, clean, simple basic explaination of how you run your challenges in your introductory post for each challenge. I know that double duty layouts are fine and that I need to link back to the thread. Probably the only thing that isn't immediately evident without looking at the "how it all works" post is that I can put my layout in another gallery if it's doing double duty.
Frankly, I think yours could be a model for a lot of the other designers! LOL Esp. your chatting with Gundi thread, 'cause sometimes "extraneous" threads get started by us participants (I've done it myself!) and then clutter things up for a while.
Was that more than you wanted to know?
I love to hear myself talk in person, too ;-)

Oh boy, Raphne, you said a mouthful! LOL!
I would have to agree with most of what Raphne said, but would love to add one other comment.
It's not just how a particular thread or designers challenge is handled, but where those threads are located that can really throw me for a loop. I really only started doing challenges a couple of months ago and I seem to constantly lose the threads. I have bookmarked the ones I know I will come back to over and over, but then there are things like the 'Feed Me' threads I don't spend a lot of time at, but want to find from time to time. Or that odd challenge that comes up that may only run for a short time. The Designer Challenges are all nicely bunched together, but some of the other categories get a little screwy. OK, I'm trying to do this without naming names, but need some examples. Mandy's Manic Monday - fun what I have seen so far - but the thread continues from one challenge to the next with no new heading. Trying to find the break point has become tooooo much work. And which category was that under anyway. I literally have to go to the What's Happening (great idea except things change faster than any one person could keep up with) and find it on that loooooooonnnnng list. (edited because I got long winded).
The long and short of it - The headings seem clear, but things don't always appear under a heading that makes sense.
BTW, I used to teach computer classes. One of my most popular - Internet Search: How to find what you are looking for!
Hope this helps!

Oops! Believe it or not, I forgot to say something!
The number of dead threads (ones that have not had posts in months or even a year) is clogging up the works too. For example, the West Coast Crop. Don't know what happened to them, but they haven't seen a post in going on 14 months.

You know, I hadn't thought about it, but I bet it is really scary to launch a new kit. Esp. right now, when you haven't done a ton of them, each one must feel really personal, kinda like sending yourself out to be judged!
But. . . I can honestly say I haven't seen a kit from you that I haven't liked. Don't get me wrong, I've liked some, and LOVED others, but there is none I haven't bought yet-- just some I had to have NOW and others I could wait for a sale :)

Carolyn, I can only envy your self control. . . . I started buying my own gift certificates with the same rationale: This is my budget, and when it's gone, it's gone for the month.
Only. . . I just buy more when my available balance starts dropping. AND, I usually buy a few kits with that particular trip to the store, too! It's just made it easier for me to buy one or two kits at a time, because I don't have to explain all the $4 charges to DH.:lol:

To be honest, I don't think self control has too much to do with it. Many times, my purchases are based on my current photo project OR based on what personal photos I've taken and want to scrap ! I take children's photos of friends' kid's/grandkids for birthdays, holidays etc. My personal ones are of my sons so are more in tune with manly grunge/crazy parties/sporting events etc. It is very rare for me NOT to have a specific project requiring specific types of kits.
So, if I've splurged on kits for an event, then my $$$ allotment may be all used up but I have the kits I need. If there is nothing specific ongoing, then I tend to re-use kits (altered, recolored, warped, twisted and blend mode-ed to unrecognizability)
I do alot in graphic style which doesn't require too much (if any) in the way of kit pieces.. but I ususally choose kits with elelments that are multi purpose and not too gender specific . I tend to get alot of use out of the ones I have. But I still have about 300 kits, overlays, backpacks, addons etc.
I've gone as long as 3 months without any kit puchase other than my monthly Club Digital... so then I have 120 to spend at some point ! This wacky way seems to work well for me. I have never been a chronic shopper and years of bearing financial responsibility for 3 kids have taught me to watch pennies, even though I am now in a positiion I no longer need to; I can just buy pretty much anything I want/need.
I guess, maybe, i could have stated this alot simpler by saying that I HATE SHOPPING IN ANY FORM ! Self control has nothing to do with it. I'd rather give birth to triplets through my nose than go to a mall......UGH !!

Nah... it's just the IDEA of shopping... making a decision and hoping it's the right one. I shop like a man.... I know what I want/need and just walk in and get it.. no browsing ! ( Jeans, Levi's signature , size 6, mid rise, boot cut, teeshirt, white small.. the idea of trying something on doesn't exist in my mental vocabularay .. cash out..race back to car.. leave rubber in parking lot.. breathe) No looking to the left/right. And if what i want isn't there, then just go home, I must not have needed it anyway.
At least HERE I know the item will always be available.. but I do need to browse !
I had my kids one at a time and that was good enough for me ! I can't imagine doing it twice within an hour ! I bow with forehead touching the floor, to you mothers of multiples !

:eek::yikes::cry::no:
Oh, Chris. As a fellow migraineur, I am sooooooooooooooooooo sorry!
Here are my favorite migraine tips (and I'd love any you've found!)
1) ICE!!! I don't know why it took me so long to figure that one out. Now, if I could cut my head off and stick it in the freezer, I would.
2) I have these ugly sunglasses that I got at the vision center at Walmart (but you can get them at any vision center) that are for people with cataracts. They are a lifesaver. http://store.coolshadesusa.net/posmfitovrxc.html
3) ibuprofen, 4 pills, with 2 extra strength tylenol and as much caffiene as my stomach will tolerate.
4) prescription drugs! Imitrex has too many side effects for me, but after some trial and error I found one that gave me minimal trouble. Expensive, but worth it! And I have a prescription nausea medicine, too.
5) Sleep, dark, quiet. . . I think most everyone with migraines has figured that out.
6) I just started a med to try to reduce how many migraines I get. It's helped, some, but what really surprises me is that I think I was having little headaches pretty much daily that I just ignored, and I'm noticing that I don't seem to have those as often. The down side: now I notice them when I do!
I hope you're feeling better really, really soon!
Christine
09-05-2008, 04:27 PM
Thanks Raphne! it is still there, but I was missing my "peeps" :) and had to check in. I realized it must be a migraine right after my eyes went all buggy, so I RAN and took an imitrex. It has kept it at a dull roar. (I actually might have some good suggestions for you, I will PM you later when I can think straight, remind me if I forget.)
Does anybody notice anything different about me? Hmmmmmm?! Hint, hint, look down below where I am typing. :D
We have a BLINKIE!!!! What do you think? Do you love it?! :yahoo: For anyone who wants to stick it in their siggie, here is the code:

Well I'm pretty quiet around here, but I'd recognize your face in a heart beat. I just took my new digital scapbooking magazine to work with me today and right away I noticed you ( page 65). You made my day. I feel I'm connected to fame, or at least I have the right digital connections. I'm so happy to see something I recognize in publication. It seems DSP is always getting recognized because this place is "da Bomb". not to mention the quality of work shared here is amazing. It never hurts to say it again. Thanks for all you do!
Wasn't that just the coolest?! I have been published by DSM before, but this was doubly exciting because not only was it my layout, but it was about DSP and our beloved GT.
Even if you are "pretty quiet" you can feel free to come and make a little bit of noise here any time you feel like it. Grab our new, pretty blinkie and throw it in your siggie. Also thanks for coming and telling us, I really appreciate your kind words and support!

Have I mentioned how incredibly excited I am for you!? :love2:
Picked up a few things of yours during the Labor Day sale, but have to check to see if you've already used them in a challenge. If so, no biggie, I'll still use them! :D
And, now that you have a fabulous new blinkie, I'll be kidnapping it for my blog. Too bad I couldn't make it link to your blog AND here!! Any preferences as to where it should lead?
Big 's!

Gosh such a hard decision, it shouldn't be but it is. LOL I suppose it doesn't matter because my blog links here and my siggie has a blog link in it. Hmmmmm I guess my blog, that way it is easier for newbies to see what is going on with my challenges etc.

Chris , so sorry to hear about the migraine.. I suffered those for years.. they were associated with monthly hormone changes, so I could count on having one on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I suffered every side effect listed for every anit-migraine medication I tried... If I felt it coming on, then I could take Excedrine Migraine to help with the pain. But if I woke up with a full blown one, then the only thing that I could do was take 1 Vicodin (which I am very sensitive to) and that would literally knock me out for 6 hours. On the bright side, I was so regular, I knew that there would be one Saturday each month when I never left my bed. I was literally blinded by the dots and auras in the eyes, change of position would cause me to vomit as well as any type of sudden noise-phones ringing, toilet flushing, kids running, doors slamming...yes I was such a joy ! But I marked it on the calendar and would ship the kids off for overnights at family/friends so I could be miserable alone !

Wow Carolyn! I am feeling pretty blessed now. My eyes cleared up once the pounding began and I have never thrown up, just queasy. I get frequent regular headaches, but only once in a great while do I get a full blown migraine. I actually think my headaches are related to sweets consumption, especially chocolate, but I haven't ever logged it out to be sure. I am kind of afraid to, cuz then I would have to change my eating habits. LOL

I can empathize with how rotten you feel tho. Doesn't it seem that you can deal with pain/discomfort in any other body part but when it's the head- then everything feels like doo-doo. 3 kids- no meds. Gallbladder surgery- no post op meds needed, carpal tunnel surgery- no postop meds needed, ligament reconstruction surgery right ankle- no postop meds needed.........HEADACHE........screaming, crying, whining and running for bed.

The girl thing is DEFINITELY the pits. And I DON'T MISS ONE DAY OF IT ~~~.It worked out that years of misery somewhat balanced out a simple menopause. had one massive hot flash at 38 ( Lasted 2 hours !) and then in December 2000, ( at 45) it just shut off- like a faucet. No flashes, mood swings.. nothing. Didn't even get the option to scratch the faces off the kids !! LOL
BUT YOU CAN BET THAT IF MEN WERE TO GO THROUGH SIMILAR ISSUES, THEN A MAGIC 'CURE' WOULD'VE ALREADY BE INVENTED TO ALLEVIATE ALL SYMPTOMS !! IF MEN HAD TO HAVE ROUTINE 'PENI-GRAMS' YOU COULD BET THAT ANOTHER WAY, OTHER THAN SQUISHING/FLATTENING THE BEAST, WOULD'VE BEEN INVENTED, TOO !!!

I am sooooooo thankful not to have migraines. Well, I don't think I do. I have started getting sinus headaches that put me in bed for the day. No rhyme or reason as to when they will come on. Of course, it's a real challenge with 3 kids 5 and under. Oh, not to mention I started the whole hot flashes, peri-menopause this year. Yep, old enough for menopause with 3 little ones. Don't be so sure those aren't migraines! I get classic migraines, with the flashing lights and blind spots that precede them, and "common migraines", which are just pain in the sinuses (but no stuffiness or cold symptoms). I've been told that a lot of people who think they have sinus headaches really have migraines!
Oh, and I've also been reminded that the tylenol/ibuprofen/caffiene recipe is for occasional use only-- too frequent and it can cause headaches by itself!
The ONLY good thing about getting migraines: If you know you have them, there are good drugs to try. ESPECIALLY with little kids at home, you can't be taken out of commission for a day.
idtwinmom
09-06-2008, 11:45 PM
Thanks Raphne for the concern. Problem is, the only thing I can take is Tylenol. I'm deathly allergic to Nsaids. Aspirin makes my heart race, Ibuprofin..... let's just say I was told never, ever to even try, not even with a Dr right next to me with a crash cart (for those who don't know, that's the cart they keep in hospitals for emergencies). Most migraine meds I've heard of are in that same family. Seeing as the headaches resemble some my Mom used to get, I've been thinking it's time to have a sleep study done.
Christine

The newer migraine meds aren't considered NSAIDS, they are actually called triptans or seratonin agonists. So they are more related to Prozac and company than to the NSAIDs. Imitrex does have a sulfa group so if it is sulfa drugs you are allergic too, you would want to watch that one, but even that wouldn't be a 100% cross over.

does the ehd show up on your computer ? If it does, contact the companies support and they can walk you through how to access it ! If it doesn't show up on your computer, then there's big problems. The average cost for data retrieval on an EHD that has not been bounced off the floor or anything is about 500.00. Don't know if that's feasible for you .
But I would try contacting support services first.

That it shows up on your computer is a good thing.
I would not mess with it further until you contact support.
There may be a way , a backdoor so to speak, that will allow access. the folders may stil be there, but the drive is not reading them. I am not saavy enough to know all the ins and outs nor do I know what that error means.
But don't play with it anymore until you've cotacted support. They worked with me for about 1/2 hour to try different ways to get my computer to recognize the drive to no avail. My only option was pro data retrieval !
It may be as simple as sending the entire drive in and they copy your drive contents into a new one ! Once you speak to support, they can give you options.. depending upon how old the drive is, if it's under warranty etc. or can give you the names of places that service/copy drives. If it's under warranty, the new drive should be free and the only fee would be copying, shipping and handling.
Keep us posted as to what happens. !!!!

Hello All.
I'm tired. I have a 1 week job at my son's school as an aide. I'm filling in for the regular aide who had a family death. I'm not used to going to work everyday for 5 hours! He is an easy kid to work with. I worked with him a couple of years ago. She asked me if I would work for her if she needed to go. So she called me on Friday because she was flying out and asked me if I would work for her this week. They wanted someone who has worked with the boy before. I like being an aide because I get to check out the other grades and the teachers. The kid is in 5th grade. I worked with him when he was in third grade.

No, Chris, we would never ever think "What is the big deal". We all know what it would be like to lose all that work and the memories it represents. That's why we are all here, to preserve those things. I do hope that the data is retrievable. I have never had to go back and retrieve like that, but do know there are ways. As Carolyn says, the fact you can see it at all is a very good thing.
Dorene, I noticed your post in the Zero's last night, but was working on one of my headaches so decided to turn off the computer instead of posting. It sounds like he is a special needs child. I commend anyone for doing that kind of work even if it's just for a week.
SWTS - If I get past this headache maybe I can get my LO's done. Have been planning my Featured Designer LO's to do with SWTS but am having a hard time concentrating. So...now I'm down to the option of downloading the office program you recommended! Only I'm having problems there, too. I went to the website and there's like a whole page of stuff to d/l. I picked the choice at the top, right. First thing they wanted as I was registering was a choice of timeframes (or something? you know my memory! :D) and they all cost $$
Since you said it was free, I assumed I was picking the wrong thing, but didn't know for sure which it was. So...........could you kindly take my hand and lead me to the correct thing to d/l?
Thanks!   YOU ARE GREAT AND RED IS BEAUTIFUL AND I'LL GIVE YOU A LICK OF MY PEPPERMINT ICE CREAM CONE!
Is that enough buttering up, or do you require more? :p
Just a lick? Honey if there is peppermint ice cream around you had just better get out of the way, I am going for the whole carton. :D Speaking of which, I know I told Crys, but did I tell the rest of you what a sweetheart I have for a dh?! So on Tuesday, I was so upset about my lost LOs and it was dd1's 12th birthday. On the way home from picking her up after school, they stopped to get some ice cream. Somehow, my store got an early shipment of peppermint ice cream accidentally and they weren't supposed to sell any yet, and there was only ONE carton on the shelf. DH snagged that baby right away and brought it home to help cheer me up. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: He and dd1 told all of the other kids that they were not allowed to eat any. I am embarrassed to admit that it is already more than half gone. :o:o:o
Oh yeah back to your real question. OK so it is Open Office, but it is .org not .com.
Here's a link:
http://www.openoffice.org/
The second option says I want to download now, then when you click on that you get a little download now button right below that phrase. Click and it will start to dl. LMK if you need more help.

Must have been a shop day with the little ones. Joshie and I went and did grocery shopping too. I guess I am used to hauling around 4 kids, because I will tell you what, when it is just the two of us, I LOVE it!Yes that is right, I love going grocery shopping w/ my 4 yr old. He is so much fun, we have a great time and I actually get stuff I need to done.

LOL! I am soooooooooo spoiled! DH comes home from work in time to cook dinner (yep, he does 90% of the cooking) then I run out and do the shopping while he gets things cleaned up and starts getting the kids ready for bed. Believe me, I do know just how spoiled I am. Of course, the cooking part started while I was pregnant. He either cooked or didn't eat as I was too sick and the smell was just more than I could take. Some where in there, it just became our norm. The shopping part happened after we went down to one car. I was stuck at home all day with the kids (still am), so it was my "break time" so to speak.

Tonight was my son's "back to school" night. We met his teachers. He has 2 teachers because they job share. One comes in on Mondays and the other the rest of the week. I met one of them but not the other and DH hadn't met them yet. They told was they expected from the children. They introduced the liason, field trip coordinator and the scheduler which is me! We had Grandma watch the boy. He hasn't hung out with Grandma and his Auntie for a while so it was nice he could spend time with them.
Tomorrow is my last day for being an aide for the special needs child. His regular aide will be back on Monday. It has been fun. Today during PE he was playing kick ball with one of the girls in his class then 4 more girls came over to play with us. The boy can't see unless it is 2 to 3 inches in front of him so they had to tell him when the ball was coming so he could kick it. I ran the bases with him. Since there wasn't enough kids to make a team, they played for fun. The girls all enjoyed playing with him. Tomorrow they are going to be with their 2nd grade reading buddies.

Dorene, I'll bet you have some very special feelings after dealing with this little boy all week. I admire you for it!
Chris, I downloaded the program, where Quattro Pro 6 (not sure which version I had?) was one of the offerings. I used that to open one of the spreadsheets. The file name came up, at the top, just as it should and voila! There was a spreadsheet. Unfortunately, it was completely devoid of anything. No facts, no figures, nothing! :( Now what? I'm getting desparate here!)
I went hunting for Quattro Pro and found it for $159.99, if you're updating. Just for kicks and giggles, I put it in my cart, 'cause I wanted to see if somewhere along the line I would have to *prove* I had an earlier version? Never saw anything...so if worse comes to worse...
But, they also offered a 30-day trial version. I'm wondering, (worse-case scenario) if I can try that and it works, could I then do something to get those files into my current spreadsheet program, of OpenOffice's?
Christine
09-12-2008, 10:55 AM
Lisa, yes you are spoiled, but whatever works for you! :D Just be sure to give him an extra big smoocheroo every once in a while.
Dorene, your story about the ball game just warms my heart. We have a boy in our ward (church congregation) who is now a teenager and in Young Men's and he has Downs. I am just AMAZED at how the other boys are so kind to him and make him feel a part of everything, even when we are doing some sort of competition. It is AWESOME!
Crys, ok I see a couple possibilities. First open your file on your old computer and resave to a jump drive, external whatever and try again. It just might be that the file got corrupted. Second, try saving as the newest Excel version that it gives you as an option, then open in Open Office. Third possibility, install the trial version (I know this makes you nervous that is why it is option #3  ), save as the updated file type, then try to open in OO. I can't see any reason to buy it, unless you can open the file in the new QP, but can't transfer it. I haven't tried any QP files with OO, but I have converted several Excel ones. Now get off early so you can try all of this.

09-12-2008, 01:24 PM
Hey Crys, I would like to chime in here! Don't buy the Upgrade unless you can prove the previous version. The proof is required at the time of installation, not purchase. I saw that you were having trouble loading because of a serial number. If you have the disk for the old program, you can still upgrade (the upgrade will come with a new serial number), but if you don't have the disk you won't be able to install the upgrade either. All of Gundi suggestions are excellent, and at least one of those 3 should work. (My guess would be the one where you retrieve the file from the old computer first, it sounds to me like there may be some file corruption there.)
Hope this helps!

Sorry to be acting like such a baby, but I just don't have a technical bone in my body! :D
I doubt the file was corrupted, as I tried to open several different ones, unless if one gets corrupted, they all do! Sort of like a bad apple in the bunch.:lol:
I do have several flash drives I could copy the originals and carry around with me until I find someone who has a computer that will read them.;)
Is there a possibility that the problem lies in the fact that each of my spreadsheet files are actually made up of multiple sheets?
You second option I don't even understand?
I almost tried your third option last night; I'm getting desparate.
The hooking up the old computer is an awfully sticky point, too!
On the bright side, I finally figured out that it's my intellimouse that kept waking up the computer and disabled it's ability. Puter slept like a baby all night long!
Still have no clue why it won't go to screen saver and then go to sleep after hours of inactivity???

Crys -- I hope you get the computer thing figured out soon.
We just got back from my son's Cub Scout meeting. My hubby talked me into going to the Cub Scout meeting. It is the first meeting of the year. At least there were some other Moms there to talk to.
Tomorrow is my son's first soccer game of the season.
The boy I was aide for this week thanked me for helping him. He is so sweet. He said I will see you next time _ _ _ _ is out. I told him I will see him around because his sister is in my son's class. So he said I will see you around.

Dorene, sounds like your son is keeping you busy! Enjoy every minute of it! And your little *charge* - how sweet is that!
To add to my computer woes, last night my mouse stopped responding. After several frustrating trials and errors, a good night's sleep, a phone call to my son who had no clue and a few more gray hairs, I finally had my DH disconnect the old Intellimouse (which happened to be the offender which was keeping the computer from staying asleep). Lo and behold, the new mouse has now been working for a little more than 12 hours and my screen saver now comes on, runs, and shuts down after the specified amount of time! If that's just all a coincidence, then it's a HUGE one!!
Thanks everyone for your encouraging thoughts. Just a couple more small issues to resolve. :D

Well I have my fingers crossed too. Our own Heather (addicted) talked to her BIL who lives by me and he was willing to check it out and see what all he could do or if anything was even possible. Aren't they both just the BOMB?!!! The thing is everyone talked to wanted something like $100 JUST TO LOOK AT IT! I was having a hard time spending that much money when I could just look at the LOs and rebuild them (they were all posted) (PITB yes, but doable), especially when the $100 didn't even give me anything but a "look at it." I am so hoping he will call me with good news of the yes I found all of your layouts type variety.

Just a quick post to let you guys know that I was so blessed--in the damage all around from Hurricane Ike I had no damage to the house! I do have some trees down and one is on my chain-link fence, so that will have to be repaired. One of the trees fell on my electric meter, which was mounted on a post way across the wide driveway from the house, and the meter is completely destroyed. I've let the electric coop know, but there are so many power poles and lines down in town and the surrounding area that I don't expect to be at the top of the list.
I evacuated to Georgetown, TX, about 200 miles W of Ike's path, and we had a couple of breezy days, but not a drop of rain, which is badly needed here. So I ended up having to wash the "lovebugs" off the front of the motorhome by hand this morning. (ICK) But I have lots of new pics of my DGD and a new name--she never could quite get "Grammy", but she will "light up" and call me "MiMi", and that's good enough for me!! :D
I voted for a blinkie--tough choice--they're all great!

Chris, just wanted to appologize for not being able to make your chat. I bowl on tuesday mornings, and will only be able to make your chat on sick days or snow days.

Hello. Hope you all had a good weekend.
Chris -- Glad you are having a good time with your mom.
Crys -- sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Can't wait to see some of your layouts.
Alice -- I like your avatar. Did you make it? I love sparkly things. :D
My son's soccer game was fun. His team played very well together. The team that they played were a good match for them. They lost 3-2. My son played goalie the first part of the game then the coach had him playing on the field in the second half.
The church pasta dinner was excellent. There were quite a few people there. They had a lot of good fixin's at the salad bar and some really yummy garlic bread on wheat bread. They had music and a raffle. A really fun night.
Just kicking back today and relaxing. My son has been at his friends house playing with his WII. His friend just got a WII. They have been playing with it all day. I think I am going to have one tired boy tonight.
Tomorrow is the first day for Creative Arts ART class for my son's class. I am helping another parent. I volunteered last year to help with the ART class. It was really fun.

Dorene, my twins kindergarten teacher just mentioned that he asks for parents to help on art days. I was thinking I would make every effort to do that as it is a good way to stay involved in the boys schooling. Sounds like you've had a great weekend. Just the same old stuff here.
Grandma (Crys - right?), so glad you had fun. And to think you get to do it all again. There has got to be a lot of good pics with that many taken. It will be fun to see the LO's.

Lisa -- helping out with art is also a great way to get to know the kids in your twins class. It is fun helping them express themselves through their art.
The first art class of the year they have the kids do a self portrait. The portraits are put into a scrapbook and given to the kids when they are in the 5th grade. So they have a self portrait from kindergarten to 5th grade. Which is a really cool way for them to see their progress through the years.

Dorene, I should mention that idea to the boys teacher. They go to a small charter school (k-5, max 130 kids in all classes) and the kinder teacher is also the school director. I'm sure he would be open to starting something like that. Although, I may have to continue it at home at some point as we are really hoping to move back to Alaska long before the boys are in 5th grade.
Chris - post vacation syndrome can last a couple days (or so I've heard). LOL! Me, I'm not doing much as after all the hard yard work last week, I now have a miserable cold. So I'm vegging on the couch again today. I did the breakfast dishes though, so I'm not being the total slug I threatened being. DD is playing at my feet with blocks and watching Mickey Mouse, so I guess it's not too bad a day.
Have a good day all!
