I've accumulated an overabundance of scrapping supplies on my computer and can't always find what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to organize them? My system seems to be getting out of control.

Here is a previous thread that discusses organization. Hopefully, it will give you an idea of waht you want to do. I personally use ACDSee.

I use ACDSee also, now I scrap instead of search (there is a free 30 day trial of their software at www.acdsee.com)

I love, love, love ACDSEE. If you go to their site they are running a sale- 40% off so its $29.99. Totally worth the money!

ACDSEE could cost ten times as much and still be worth it. Just like Sherry I feel as I'm scrapping now - not always searching for matching elements to my lo.

Another vote for ACDsee too!

Not sure if anybody is still reading this thread...

But how is ACDsee better/different than PSE's Organizer? :)

Thanks!

Hi Ted-
To start with, once I got a decent amount of supplies to organize the organizer would crash on me- alot. I think the pse organizer is slow- slow to load- slow for everything. I prefer ACDSee as it is a stand alone program, and I just drag and drop what I want into my layout. I also think it is easier to keep track of credits. I also like that I can keep my database and use it on both my laptop and my desktop computers. I use pse6 and cs3 so I like the idea that if I change programs, I don't have to start a new database- it works with everything. I also like that I can see the pictures of my png and psd files without having to open up the item.

That's just a start.. now that you have bumped this thread, I am sure alot of people will chime in to tell you the advantages of acdsee over the pse organizer

you can also download a 30 day trial from their website.

What about for Mac Users? Any ideas there? I went to the ACDsee site and no Mac options

I use the PSE organizer, and I haven't had any problems with it crashing. It can be a little slow if I have a lot of programs open. I have a little over 5GB of scrapbook supplies. I don't use the organizer for my photos, so maybe that's why it works for me.

Sherry, thanks so much for answering! :)

Did I read somewhere that if I decide to go with ACDsee, there is a way to export my current PSE organizer data over to it?

So then I wouldn't have to sort through 6000+ photos all over again, tagging them and such?! :)

Ted- I simply don't know the answer to that-
here is a link to a great site (www.digiscrapinfo.com (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com)) that has answers to all kinds of scrap stuff- this particular link addresses your question though- but I don't know how completely but it's a start. if it can be done with other programs surely adobe has a way to do it for elements..

Sherry, thanks for the link. That's all Greek to me...but then again, a lot of this stuff is Greek! ;)

I'm a school teacher... I may just end up with ACDSee and have a summer project cataloging my files. ;)

Or perhaps I'll use it for my digital scrapbooking kits, etc. and use PSE organizer for my photos, etc. :)

It was all Greek to me to at one time too. Tagging doesn't have to be a one piece at a time kinda thing- this is a link to a quick 4 step way to speed tag- Meryl recommended to me- saved me hours and hours- I use it for my supplies AND the photos that I take, it's quick and easy.

School teacher? :applause::applause: (you guys don't get enough praise, in my opinion)

Sherry, that can be a useful link! :) Thanks so much for sharing it with me!

And thanks for the applause. It's a hard job, but at times rewarding. Of course, now with California budget woes, it may get even harder! :(

Just popping in here . .. same vote for priase for educators from me . ... have been an adult one myself, and my daughter is one and my mother, sister and sister-in-law were . .... soooo know all about it.

Organization . ..ACDSee or the CS4 Bridge is way better than it's previous versions. Also, for keeping track of the kits you have purchased, use Kathleen's Excel Spreadsheet . ... . amazing and should help with the duplicate purchases thing that has plagued me.

I orgranize my physical kits my designer and I find that works well for me. Will put the link in later . . or do a search for Excel and her latest postings on that should surface.

Did I read somewhere that ACDSee also can be used similarly to the old The Font Thing? Like cataloging them and then "installing" the font only when needed?

I've read about it at digiscrapinfo.com but have never tried to use it myself.

yes, you can, -- it really helps a font-a holic like myself!
You can read about it here:
ACDSee Photo Manager allows you to use Uninstalled Fonts in your scrapbooking program (http://digiscrapinfo.com/wordpress/2007/04/30/using-uninstalled-fonts-using-photo-manager-and-your-editor/)
This was written for Photo Manager 10, but this works for 2009 as well.
I also wrote a little challenge/tutorial to help organize and use fonts with Photo Manager
Organization Challenge Week Four (http://digiscrapinfo.com/wordpress/2009/02/09/organization-challenge-week-four/)
