Hope these not already posted? so proud to have read 2 books lol!

I really am not a reader (belong to a bookclub because i love the members and love their cakes!) BUT two books I have just read and I could NOT put down were both by Khaled Hosseni - The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. If you have not read them do - they are both "big" reads but fantastic reads.

Oh yes Meryl - both are incredible books arent they - I think I might have posted about one or both some time ago - Esp with A thousand splendid suns - you would swear it was a woman writing that book - not a man - it was so beautifully written from a womans point of view

I agree ladies, read both these books over christmas and found I could not put them down.....they were both part of our bookclub read for the start of the year and received great reviews from all our members. Written by a man.....with the wisdom of a woman!

They arent a series Audrey - each book is individual - they both are about Afghanistan though

Thanks, Lauren. I will see which one is available and start with that one, then. :)

If you have a choice A Thousand Splendid Suns is my absolute favourite - Kite Runner takes a little more "getting into" - both though are riveting reads!

I loved the Kite Runner - though was appropriately horrified by it, too. Have the other on my wish list already. Can't wait to get it!

Update: I borrowed Kite runner from the local public library, finished it, and am now halfway through A Thousand Splendid Suns(also borrowed). Thanks for mentioning these books! It has opened my eyes to a whole different culture! I cannot imagine living the lives these people have!

I started The Kite Runner months ago, but couldn't get into it, so I gave up.

Thanks for the tip Meryl. Looks like I can get both from the library so I will put in the request and see how long it takes to get them in town (they are both coming from other libraries in the system).

I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and WOW! What an eye-opening experience. I'd highly recommend this book. Haven't read the Kite Runner yet, but it's on my list.

has anyone seen the movie of the kite runner? i was ready to watch, but had to work on my laptop at that time and it was all subtitles! made it too hard to work, so i gave up then and dh wasn't very into it, so it went back to its netflix home. might try later if the movie's good. i'm sure the book would be better of course.

I was looking forward to seeing the movie (missed it last time round) but you have now put me off - hate sub-titles.....
