I have a category for new/to be used kits. I put the preview of each new kit into this folder. What I would like to know is how do I remove it and put it back in its original place with the rest of the kit, when I've done a LO with the new kit.

I know if I delete it, it disappears from the database altogether.

Kathleen kindly showed me how to do this at the Adobe Crop, but I didn't write it down, and stupidly thought, oh I'll remember - guess what I can't.

Any help would be wonderful Please pretty please.

First - you have to do this within in ACDSee so that the database records the move of the file.

Go to the preview image file you want to move, and you can either click and drag it to the folder you want it in or you can right click on it and choose "move to folder" and then a browser window will come up allowing you to choose the folder to move the file to.

Oh and don't forget to update your category tagging on the file to remove the category "new/to be used kits" so that it won't come up in your search for that category.

BTW - great idea to tag your preview image files with a category to help you keep track of those kits you have yet to use!!!

Thanks for the quick response Mandy. I've tried the 'move to file' thingy, but it just doesn't appear to leave the new/to use catagory. How do I do the update thingy, maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. Kathleen showed me a really quick way to do this, and I think 'preferences' was part of the process, but I might be dreaming!!!! She also showed me how to speed tag. I love it. Problem is, I got carried away and some elements got put in the wrong categories, so if I can learn how to move them around quickly I can tidy up my organisation!!!

I love having that category for new/to use files - it's especially useful around DSP Birthday, or CIJ, or any other time when you get heaps of new stuff - it just helps me keep track of what I haven't used. Really useful when doing loads of challenges too.

I have a tag category "00 new kits" (I only put the 00 so it shows up at the top of my alphabetical categories list).

When I tag my kit, I tag the preview sheet with the 00 new kits tag (in addition to any other tags I put on all my preview sheets)- once I use it- I simply click on the properties for that sheet and uncheck the mark for that category- this way I never have to worry about moving any files at all. Hope this makes sense.

(You can go to the top menus to view properties). Speed tagging?? would love to know more about that

mmmm, I'm not seeing a check box in the properties. When I go to move the file back to it's original folder, then refresh, the preview is still there in my catogories. Grrrr. Kathleen made it look so easy when she showed me. I wish I had written her instructions down.

Regarding Speed Tagging - Kathleen posted in the thread http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31271&page=2 with a link to a tutorial for speed tagging. It's magic.

If you have a category set up, would you just untick the item when you had done? Or have I got totally the wrong end of the stick? Click on the Properties tab, find the preview you want to remove, then just untick it from your category.

Ka-Ching, got it - thank you so much for all your help ladies. Why didn't I ask here sooner, instead of getting frustrated and cross - I shoulda known DSPers would answer in no time.

click on the item in your viewing pane that you want to remove
on the right side of my screen I have a task pane, on the bottom are tabs (organize, task pane, properties) (the properties tab only shows when i have chosen an item)
choose properties
it shows my categories (collapsed) so I click on the plus to expand them
it shows check marks in every category that this item belongs to.
I just uncheck the check mark next to the category I want to remove it from, in my case "00 new kits"- it takes it out of the previews in that category but leaves it in every other category that has a check mark
Does that make sense?

Hehehe...I just now saw this! I'm glad you enjoyed Speed Tagging. I have a reply a few posts back here where I go into detail on how to unassign a category. There are the Properties pane, Database tab checkboxes (I do all my tagging in there...I drop more than I drag...lol!) Then there a Set Categories button in the context sensitive toolbar as well as an option in the right-click menu and the Edit menu. So several places where you can assign and unassign categories...you just can't do a reverse drag-n-drop. Hope that helps.
