I've downloaded some cool masks that I'd like to use, but I can't get them to "work". Do I add it to the photo layer or a mask layer or something else completely? Do you see a virtual "CLUELESS" across my forehead?

Also, can the PSP8 frames be used as masks? Not the virtual frames and masks, but the ones that have the brush strokes.

Thanks,
Jewel

You have to have your masks in your PSP mask directory (or you can edit your preferences and "tell" PSP where your masks can be found (I have several in a directory on an external hard drive and can get to them when I need one).

With your document open you can go to Layers > Load Mask from disk -- then find one (experiment with reversing them and other options -- they do work much the same as a picture frame) and apply it. You do have to merge your layers if you want to apply the mask. If you have only one photo open, you can promote the background layer if you want the mask to leave transparent edges. If you layer two backgrounds, it will cut away parts of the one on top to let parts of the background show through.

My suggestion would be to go to here. (http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_alp.php) (Corel purchased PSP) and put mask in the area for "search" -- One I found is here - Making Selections From Masks. MASKS: WHAT ARE THEY? (http://www.jasc.com/support/learn/tutorials/archive/paintshoppro/mask1.asp) Others, jump in and add information to help with masks.

My suggestion would be to go to www.jasc.com (the creators of PSP) and put mask in the top corner for "search" -- I did and it came back with several documents like Making Selections From Masks. MASKS: WHAT ARE THEY? (http://www.jasc.com/support/learn/tutorials/archive/paintshoppro/mask1.asp)

I got it! I got it! Here's an example: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=24076

The JASC board is now one of my favorites. Thanks so much!

You've done great! I like following tutorials and examples to learn -- I love using masks. I'm glad you "got it" and your layout is wonderful! Are there any suggestions and/or tips from others using masks in their layouts?
