How about something that looks like handmade paper, sort of mottled?

Tallie
09-15-2008, 04:07 PM
I would like to see the dark brown or the tan (A18249) in a burlap type paper, a little grungy on the edges and maybe with a rolled/turned corner.

carolat
09-15-2008, 04:18 PM
Not picky here - I am just thrilled that you chose these colors! Any of the suggestions so far are great and here are a couple more - anything like graph paper or corrugated cardbord with the first layer torn off so you can see the corrugated part.

caramel nut popcorn (http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/recipe_box/caramel_nut_popcorn)
Almond cookie (http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/recipe_box/spiced_alomond_cookies)

Haven't tried either but am planning on trying one before the fall is over!

How about an interesting stripe using all the colors in the swatch. I am think more of an uneven stripe with maybe some stripes on top of stripes, a little texture, a little rugged, a little grungy.

How about graph looking paper with the really dark color and the gold color for the graph. Or anything with the dark color and the gold with swirls, leaves, scrolls, etc.

Impy
09-15-2008, 09:08 PM
I really like the watercolored look of the paper behind the flower in the sample (with or without the rose). This could very easily go in a heritage direction (my favorite) or not.
Maybe a canvas look with a watercolored effect in the various shades.

Impy
09-15-2008, 09:48 PM
How about that white background with the 3 brown stripes together on each side and top and bottom? (That didn't come out like I see it in my head, but I hope you know what I mean - look at the sample photo.)

OR, alternately, you could do a white textured background and then the brown stripes could be in cord or ribbon as a separate overlay.

I like all the different rectangles. To balance this paper, how about in similar tones (maybe a little lighter or a little darker) a swirly background. Different size swirls in different colors in a messy sort of way.

How about a cream bg with a copper/glitter swirly design all over it, maybe with little leaves.

Or a self embossed paper with the swirls and small flowers or little birds.

I totally missed the beginning of this kit. I think I looked for the thread immediately after the last one finished, but it hadn't been posted yet....then I forgot. Nice color choices.

I like sandy's dot idea and carolats graph idea...

I would also like to see a grunged paper in maybe the last two colors with the cardboard corners showing. Or even maybe just one color like a carboard box and then the edges ripped off and showing the corrugation.

Or a venetian plastered wall type texture in one of the colors.

or a take on the flower how about the flower faded in the background in a corner

and my last idea a brushed background in the second to last color with sanded edges.

09-16-2008, 11:27 AM
a linen or silky background in the darker tones

Kathleen
09-16-2008, 05:46 PM
I think it needs something to lighten up the papers. How about a couple of the lighter browns like a seagrass wall paper, but maybe rather than straight grass, a little bit of an s pattern/weave to the grass. Something like:

http://discount-wallcovering.com/images/grasscloth/NEP002.jpg

carolat
09-16-2008, 05:51 PM
An off white antiqued linen w/ worn edges would look great here

or I have my GG Grandmothers handkercheif holder here (to scan for a heritage page) - the fabric is a sort of cream satin, dull with shiny flowers embossed. The rosebuds are made of lace that is incorporated into the fabric - I think that would be an awesome background!

I think the idea of something organic would go well with this kit, whether it be floral or leaves or wheat.

I'd still quite like a swirl of little vines and leaves, copper on the cream bg.

Or maybe dragonflies zipping over the bg.

Are we ready for elements? I'd like to see a leafy flourish with some bling in the coppery tones with/maybe some in the rich tones of brown, cream and coppery "jewel" like thingees. I can picture them - not sure if I am making sense, though.

Really like a creamy ribbon to tie round that frame - maybe with a little bow.

I would like to see some coppery flourishes or swirls with some dried stems of flowers mixed within and perhaps a hint of those leaves to tie it in with the frame. Ok I think I am rambling now.

OK, I begged for stitching last time, so I'll do it again as this kit would lend itself well to stitching.

I'd like a rectangular frame made of stitches, please

A round stitched frame would work, too, to mimic the other frame.

An overlay of stitches to go around the page.

A row of stitches to hold down elements or papers.

Zigzag or straight stitches, but I'd like sewing machine stitches as I can't imagine sewing my paper pages with a needle and thread. :)

OOH, I have a vine stitch on my Pfaff that looks similar to the one on the frame. THAT would be way cool! :)

(This would be a great birthday present!)

elegant chicken wire (I think), love it!

How about a group of 3 (or 5) strands of string that put together in one spot in a knot.

Kathleen, I know what you mean - there is a roller thing that will crinkle your paper when you run your paper through it. I saw it once at a craft show, reminds me of the rollers on old wringer washing machines.

I like the idea of crushed wrinkled newsprint too in sepia tones.

LynnT
09-18-2008, 08:36 PM
I think ... it might need one of those 3 picture frame... probably in med-tone ppr. the wood might be too heavy and the wire too light ... or 1 rectanglar wood frame

Are we ready for elements? I'd like to see a leafy flourish with some bling in the coppery tones

Ohhhhhhhhhh that is super cool - love it!

How about a ribbon - maybe with a ribbon slide?

Laced eyelets?

a set of gold filigree leaves - maybe with a jump ring loop on top to hang from the mesh or a metal chain?

maybe with rivets on it to match the leaves that you just put up

Coppery staples or photo album corners would add a great touch, too. Or maybe a crinkled sheer coppery ribbon.

pinky7
09-19-2008, 12:19 PM
OK, I begged for stitching last time, so I'll do it again as this kit would lend itself well to stitching

OOH, I have a vine stitch on my Pfaff that looks similar to the one on the frame. THAT would be way cool! :)

An overlay in tan stitches in a vine pattern would look cool! Make Impy happy and give her some stitches! I love the flourish thing!!

Bringing these forward again:

I would like to see some vintage looking larger postage stamps, in the colors of the sample, grungied up a bit.

I would like a creamy (maybe crinkled a bit) ribbon and a fall and creamy nosegay.

Coppery staples or photo album corners would add a great touch, too. Or maybe a crinkled sheer coppery ribbon.

Some stitching in a variated color - cream variagating to the brown.
OR
Laces with coppery eyelets (that you would see in an old fashioned corset) with shiny ribbon binding the eyelets together.

Okay...this is not the usual element, but I love the wood tone of the circle frame and would love to have a straight piece of wood (12" or 18") in the same finish, that is similar to crown-molding.

After that, I would love a metal hook element and perhaps a couple elements to hang from it....perhaps a star, a swirly clip.....

[QUOTE=dawn-in-nz;531513]White gardenias would be lovely Pinky, or water lilies.

Well its not a gardenia or a waterlillies - in fact Im not 100% sure what it is but I like it!!! and I guess we are going to need some leaves to go with it !!- so that might have to be the next piece

WOW....It's a paper flower. Gosh, I used to grow flowers like this and I totally forget what they were called, but they were grown for the purpose of drying them to use in dried arrangements. Beautiful floral element and so are the leaves. I LOVE it!!!

sandygb
09-20-2008, 02:52 AM
How about a square shaped border of satin stitching, probably in the light caramel color. It could be used close to the edge of a background paper, or resized to use as a photo frame, or to stitch papers or photos together.

I'd still like to see the ----- willow sprig, and I think someone else suggested a crinkled aged piece of journaling paper.

I think the flower looks like a straw flower and the leaves are perfect.

I'd love a beaded circle brad, with the beads off the mesh shaped into a flower perhaps or maybe just lines of beads going across the brad.

Still absolutely in love with the frame in Brittany Blues - something similar in the shiny metal on the stalks.

An overlay of copper stitching in swirls all over the page.
