So you know how it seems like stores often have their GRAND OPENING after they have been up and running for a little bit, so they can get the kinks out?

Well I am sooooo excited to be a new designer, but I had to figure out what the heck I was doing and now I mostly have, so now it is time for my "grand opening." :D Therefore, I am going to run an EXTRA month long challenge to START THINGS OFF WITH A BANG!!! This will be like a grand opening and back to school all in one.

So the first question:

What can we win Gundi? So glad you asked.

At the end of the month, probably more like 5 weeks, everyone who completes all of the assignments will be entered into a random drawing to win a gift certificate for whatever
DOWNLOADABLE CD (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33918)
you want from the store!!! How cool is that?!!!! :yippee::yippee::yippee:
Plus, you never know the prize fairy might come along and give away some smaller prizes to random participants.

So the next question:

What do we have to do to get such an awesome prize?

1. Complete the next 5 challenges, starting with today's which will be Boyish in Blue, which I will post in a few minutes. You will still receive all posting bonuses for the challenges you complete by the individual deadlines, just like always.
2. Do at least one review for any of my products in the store. (Guys, these really help promote my stuff, plus it helps me to know what you like.)
3. Bring a friend (bring someone who has never done my challenge before and when they do the challenge, you get the points, sounds pretty easy, right :D ) Don't have any friends, or all of your friends already love me? Not to worry, you have another option. Do a layout with Nightshade Floralia (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=8664) instead.
4. Snag my Goodies with Gundi Blinkie and throw it in your siggie. The code for the siggie is in post #19 and here is a link:

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=531084&postcount=19

Edited to add one other question that you may have thought of. :D

So Chris, I just barely found this and I have already missed part, now what?

Well never fear, I can take care of you too. Just go back and do the challenges that you missed and still be entered into the CD drawing.:clap:

That's it! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

The last challenge ends on October 21st, so I will draw the winner on the 22nd or 23rd.

Please post all of your "homework" in one post, but feel free to ask questions or just tell us how you are coming along.

I am editing to add a running list of the challenges for assignment #1

List of challenges for assignment #1 (each one is linked to its individual challenge thread)

Ahhhhh! Gundi's Grand Opening!!!! I'll have to have a serious talk with DH about spending money. This will take all of next months budget, but what a birthday present that would be huh! (Do I get extra points cause Oct. 23rd is my birthday?) LOL!

1. Complete the next 5 challenges

Ok, I haven't even got the first kit downloaded (although it's in my cart!) and I have a question. Not that I don't already have nightshade florilia, but I haven't been able to addict any of my friends to this hobby. I'm seriously thinking about buying my sister PSE for her birthday, just 'cause I'm *that* pushy, but would she have to do all of the steps in the challenge to qualify? Or just one?

Christine
09-16-2008, 08:15 PM
nope your "friend" can just do a LO and it doesn't even have to be someone new to DSP, it just has to be someone who has never done a Goodies with Gundi challenge before. But yes go ahead and be pushy cuz first off this is FUN! and 2nd off then she won't glaze over when you start going on about DSP

Christine
09-16-2008, 08:16 PM
oh yeah and if the "friend" wants to do all of the assignments then he/she is entered into the CD drawing too (but then they have to find a new friend)

Oh my, a GRAND OPENING! Gundi, you just come up with the best ideas. I think I can do this, but I'm pretty sure right off the bat I'm going to have to do an extra layout, because all my friends already know you and love you!!! :D

I'm pretty sure I've already snagged your Blinkie; but will make for sure after I hit the *submit* button here. ;) (**Edit: Yes I have it!!)

I've written a review, but will gladly write another!

Now...off to scrap...this is gonna be fun....

:yippee::yippee::yippee:Oboy oboy oboy!! This will be sooo much fun! I love your kits and I'm pretty sure I have every one you ever made, so I'm in. You DO have the best ideas!
Question: Is this where we post links to everything we do, in addition to posting them for each week's challenge? (Or am I making this more complicated than it is???)
Gotta go unzip the "blue" kit! :yippee::yippee::yippee:

OK, here goes!

*I have your siggie!

*I wrote a comment for your Carved Marble Alpha, which I love, love, love. If you guys don't have it, you're missing out on a very versatile, classy alpha.

Gotta go unzip the "blue" kit! :yippee::yippee::yippee:

so for this challenge keep one running post that says:

Boyish in Blue: link
next kit: link
etc

look I have my siggie

I reviewed this kit: link although this takes a day or so to post so you may have to get the link the next day

here's my friend who came to play OR here is my Nightshade LO

Now for the weekly posting bonus, just post as normal in that particular thread, cuz you don't want to miss that bonus, now do you. :D

Does this make sense to everyone?

ok.. HERE GOES..
I use PHOTOSHOP, so I cannot walk you through any specifics with your software.. HOWEVER, if you follow THIS LINK (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/psp_completefirstLO_ny/psp_completefirstLO_ny.shtml) you will find the answers to your first and most basic questions... like 'HOW the HECK to I use all this stuff?"

That link ( just click on the underlined words) will bring you to a tutorial specific for your software. It includes screenshots so you have something to follow besides words. Select the photos you want to use, select the backgrounds (bk) and such, and then just follow the tutorial.

I followed the tutorial specific for my software when I first started and found I COULD DO IT ! So you shoul have no trouble !

HTH ( Hope this helps)

Joni, I wish I could answer specific questions, but I don't use PSP either. The tutorial that Carolyn gave you will really help you get started. And for inspiration, here is my very first LO (layout) done following the same tutorial (just a different program).

Thank you Carolyn and Lisa!! I've read over the tut and even copied it into Word to keep in my tut folder!! Wow Nicole is excellent at putting those things together, isn't she?! I will take some time next week and see if I can get something done. I'm going to see my 2 Grandsons tomorrow!!

Thank you so very much for assisting me in this problematic situation I'm in!! I never really thought to go to the tutorials.....and this one IS so thorough.

Thanks for sharing your first lo with me Lisa! I could tell from looking through your layouts that you've really grown in your scrapbooking! Congrats! I suppose we ALL had to start somewhere, huh??! I just hope I can do the items that I have collected justice in the manner that I use them. We shall see!

Thanks Again!

Big Hugs!

Hopefully this is a simple one someone can help me with. How do you add more than one sig ? Everytime I add one, it delets the other - so that I can only have one. I know there is a way ..... HELP !

Thanks

Christine
09-23-2008, 06:02 PM
You go under My Account>edit signature. Once you are there you scroll down a little bit and it gives you a place that looks like the go advanced reply box. The code for Nicole's blinkie should already be in there, just do a space then paste in the code for my blinkie. Hopefully that makes sense to you. Let us know if you need more help.

Welcome back, Chris! :D

LinJ
09-23-2008, 07:39 PM
sigh..... I can't paste anything ! It doesn't let me. All I see is 'upload' or enter the URL ....

When I upload, it does - but it deletes the first one there ( not to mention, Nicole's even isn't blinking at the present time ) .

Is there some setting I havn't activated or something? Ughhhhhhhh

Thanks for the help .... still trying to figure this out.

This is all that shows in the box where you can type, yet Nicole's blinkie ( not blinking .. ) does show :

Where do you get the codes? I've been copying the gif's to my computer and uploading.

Christine
09-23-2008, 08:13 PM
ok tell me how you are getting to this particular screen where it says upload or enter url thing. Also Nicole's is blinking now and no no no to downloading to your computer, much, much easier way. Here's the code for mine:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii294/gundimom/Goodies-blinkie.gif (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=667)

Just copy and paste everything in the box, the very last part should be [/url], just keep dragging to the right if it is not picking it all up. If you don't have the code provided for you, you can always get it yourself by right clicking and going under properties, to get the location, and the link if there is one. This is the form of your code, I have to put spaces in so you can see, but just take them out.

[ url = the http address that you can get either from the link or the address bar] [ img ] location of the blinkie, should end in .jpg or .gif it is blinking [ / img ] [ / url ]

LinJ
09-23-2008, 09:26 PM

Thanks !!!!!!!

Christine
09-23-2008, 11:35 PM
yay! actually the first part (the url portion) makes it "clickable" ......if you click on my blinkie it will take you to the Goodies with Gundi forum so you can see what is happening this week, but if you don't put that url part in then they just are pretty, which is ok too. :D Good job on getting it all figured out. :yahoo:

LinJ
09-24-2008, 08:28 AM
So weird... because it wouldn't work with the url part - but when I changed it, it worked! Otherwise is said invalid file or something.... I would rather it BE clickable - so I'll have to go back and keep trying!
Thanks again...

gram2nic

Another way to add the link is to right click on the blinkie, go to properties, copy the link, go into your account/signature/edit, when a new box opens click on the mountain looking icon at the top of the posting box. Paste your link, save and walla..you're done!

Christine

If you have the image portion, you can highlight it in the edit siggie window, then click on the link of the earth with the 2 links by it (right above where you are typing) then paste the copied link to the forum. I will get them for you just in case you are not sure where to get those:

Nicole's: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=539
Mine: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=667
Marcee's: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=460

OH! Before you try to just straight copy the link from what I posted, they get truncated for the part that shows, so click on my link and then once you are on that forum's page, copy the url up in the address bar. If you use Firefox, you can also right click on my link and choose copy link location.

Hopefully this is a simple one someone can help me with. How do you add more than one sig ? Everytime I add one, it delets the other - so that I can only have one. I know there is a way ..... HELP !

Thanks

After some similarly frustrating time trying to update my sig, I finally decided to copy all the html text to a word document, with each tag's html on a separate line. That made it much easier for me to see what was going on and where I had made errors. Once I had that done the way I wanted it, I copied it all (one line at a time I think to avoid the carriage return problems in the sig line rules) to the sig window. I don't remember whether I was entirely successful the first time around, but it sure made it a lot easier to go back and fix the problems.

I saved that document along with the code for tags I deleted (in case I ever need them again) so next time I want to update my sig I can do it a little more easily.

Hi all!

Thanks Lisa for those wishes. Fibro is NO FUN.........and several others to go along with it like Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and of course, Nov. will be 27 years that I've had a dis-ease that is not giving me too much trouble at this time, MS!! I'm still fully ambulatory and I've done awesome with that.........I just cannot handle the pain of Fibro. It totally bites. I'm the middle of 3 daughters and we all 3 have Fibro and we each have other stuff to go with it. My MS was finally diagnosed in Nov. 1981. My pain Dr. here is reducing the amount of pain meds I've been on, which I MUST understand, somehow ??? but she did begin me on Lyrica.

I've been reading from page 7 where I left off and WOW! It sounds like the topic is on GRANDSONS now!! I have 2 Grandsons and they say they will have no more. 1 Grandson will be 3 on October 11, next week-end and one will be 3 months tomorrow, 9-30-08! I was holding him when he was 15 minutes old and I'll tell ya! THAT is what life is all about!! FOR SURE!! I have 1 son and he will be 36 in March!! I will be 51 on Oct. 2 ~ WOW! 3 days!!! I do NOT feel 51. It seems like a dream!

I've been thru enough STRESS since 2004, it's ridiculous! I SHOULD feel about 81!! My Daddy died April 25, 2004, my husband informed me on 9-23-2006 that he "Didn't love me anymore, wasn't IN LOVE with me anymore, our marriage (13 years) had no future and It's OVER!" ~ and he walked out of the room with a STERN LOOK on his face. He was serious. OMGod. I was SO shocked. I thought it was a joke and was listening to him, looking at him, grinning like a darned Cheshire Cat waiting for the "punch line". Joke was on me. There was NO Punch Line. My heart was in my throat and I could not move. I also could NOT believe it....it seemed like a BAD DREAM....but it was true. I stayed in our home another 13 months while trying to locate another place to live and be able to afford on Disabiliy Income (and as any of you would know, that is NOT much! I have now moved to Blacksburg, VA, in the gorgeous Mountains of VA! After my husband in formed me of his intentions on Sept. 23, 2006, my BEST Friend & Life Giver died on December 29, 2006. My Mama died. I WAS DEVASTATED. Everything about me shut totally down. I was NO GOOD for at least 3 months BUT I DID have this separation thing to get done. On August 16, 2007 I had to have my Beloved Bartholomew, my Maine Coon Cat that I had had for 18 years put down due to horrible arthiritis in his legs. It was too bad to treat in ANY manner. I was willing to do ANYTHING to save him but it was just too bad in his "hips and legs". I thought I could take no more....so I decided to go to VA (just over an hour from my son and dil (that IS daughter in Love!) to find a place to live. I got the best I could find, a 2 BR trailer tucked away in an older lady's back yard and it's tucked away so well that the mail lady didn't know it was here!! LOL! I had hired a female attorney in NC, supposedly the best, paying her $6,000.00 of my $8500.00 inheritance (because my Mama split her inheritance with her 3 daughters and her 3 grandsons!! I hired her on June 20, 2007 and on Sept. 2, 2008 she was in court after filing a motion to withdraw from my case (and was granted such) so now I have no attorney and NO $6,000.00. ~because she said I owed her another $1,500.00 after SHE TOLD ME THAT "She would complete what I needed for $6,000.00". THAT was the one that put me over the edge. I LOST IT.

With just coming out of a 14 year marriage and attempting to get settled into a new, MUCH SMALLER residence and of course, no money coming in from hubby (since my attorney never completed the property settlement OR the post separation support that she was supposed to do) I've been living on $680. per month and it is NOT an easy thing to do since, some months, my rent has been $575.00. If your math is as good as mine, you understand it just does NOT cut it!! So, I've gone without food many times. I've lost 21 lbs since I've been here, now down to a whopping 105 lbs. I've had to hide my 6s and go to Goodwill to find size 4s....and they're slowly sliding down!!

I did have good news happen! I finally got food stamps so I CAN EAT NOW!!!!!!!!!! Possibly I'll gain some weight back but I'm SO MUCH like my Daddy that I "forget to eat"!! Mama always said that "She lived to eat and I ate to live"!! That is the gospel truth too! Daddy used to always forget to eat and Mama had to remind him!! Whew!

I've gone on long enough. I know you all are ready to toss me outta here now!!

Just some "STUFF" as to why I've not been here a lot. I have a lot going on with legal stuff, trying to figure out how to get an attorney in VA. How to get a NC attorney to file a Motion for Change of Venue to get my case to VA, etc. Sooooooo, I have had a LOT going on. ~ I have too much going on.

Otherwise I would be here every day and I would KNOW what was happening here! BUT I spend lots of time in the recliner and/or on the phone trying to figure out how to work things........... BUT I WILL get it figured out. Somehow, I WILL!!! I am pretty darned TUFF and I WILL MAKE IT!!!!!!!!

Catch you all soon! While I'm not here, Please remember me and PLEASE say a little prayer for me?

BIG Hugs to ALL of you. I would LOVE to know each of you personally but alas, I don't have that kind of time. Possibly when I DO get everything worked out!!

Sorry I've gone on for so long. Hugs everyone. Catch you again soon. I've still not done a layout and I WILL GET SOMETHING DONE ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks SO MUCH for the freebies Chris!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!

Again I'm so sorry this was so long.............

Hugs to ALL!

LOL, Linda! Yep, here I go giving advice again!

How do you put the small pic of the LO in threads? I like to see the small LO in the thread and would love to know how to do it.

1. Open your gallery, or the gallery that the LO was posted to (either of these will work, I usually use my gallery as it is easier to find).
2. In new window or tab (depending on which browser you use), open the thread that you are posting to.
3. Click 'Post Reply'.
4. Type what text you want.
5. Go to Gallery window/tab.
6. Right click (command-click on Mac) on the image of the LO.
7. About half way down, select 'Copy Image Location'.
8. Return to Post window/tab.
9. Click the icon that looks like mountains with a moon over it.
10. Paste (ctrl-v or cmd-v) and click 'OK'

(If you want the directions to make this Image a link to your LO, PM me!)

But that doesn't help with the random calculator, RV'n! SOOOO, we're becoming chatty! :love2::cool::p

Yes please keep those babies together, so I can figure out who is eligible for the drawing. After more than a year of SWTS, I know how impossible it can be to find all of the posts.

I wanna go to Hawaii with you! It is my most favorite place on earth! I just told hubby I want to go some where warm and tropical this winter. He told me....NOT Hawaii. How dare him! We went to Hawaii every couple of years as his work would send him there for work related issues. He'd work and I would go play! Then we would take an additional week for "our" vacation. They paid for the lodging, all we had to pay for was my airline ticket. I guess he's sick of Hawaii but I'm not! So what other place would match up to Hawaii that would be warm but cheap??

I'm NOT dissing ND and SD--in fact, I was born in ND and lived there until I was 14. There are actually some interesting places to visit in the southwest corner--Medora and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, among others. But it is very hot in summer and very cold in winter and there are lots and lots of (straight) miles with fields on either side of the roadway.

The whole island is a good place to take pictures! One of the best places I fell in love with was Blow Hole. It's found a little north of Honolulu on the road going up to the north shore. Lots of cliffs and if you look just to the right of Blow hole you will find the cliff area where they filmed "From here To Eternity". You can imagine the romantic scene that was filmed there! other places for really fantastic shots is North Shore, Kananma Bay, Kaneohe Bay, Marine Base; Pearl Harbor, I can go on and on. You HAVE to go to a Luau. There are many. We went to one on the western end of the island (Paradise Cove), it's one of the best Luau's we have been to. There are also Botanical Gardens and just walking through downtown Wakaki is amazing! Make sure you walk through all the hotels, they are beautiful! You can drive around the island in less than 4 hours but the road becaomes a dirt road at the northern end and many rental car companies do not allow you to drive through it. I know there is a lot more, I'll let you know when I think of them! You should be able to get plenty of pictures of rainbows too!
As for hubby not liking crowds....well....Honolulu is busy! It's the most commercial area on all of the islands. You are going to run into people from all countries no matter where you go.
One thing that hit me the first time we arrived in Hawaii was getting off the plane and the beautiful scent in the air from all the flowers! Take a deep whiff...and enjoy! Make sure you get Lei'd too! LOL Check out the color of the water from the air as you are landing (if it's not night!) It's amazing! How long are you going and where are you staying? You HAVE to go to a Luau. There are many. We went to one on the western end of the island (Paradise Cove), it's one of the best Luau's we have been to.

I will second that one! Paradise Cove had a much better luau than the one I went to on Maui! Make sure you get there when it opens. There is so much to do! We made leis and woven leis (what are called - something with an "M") There were canoe rides and tatooing (not permanent), and games to play and shopping to do!

Most of the people are in Honolulu. On the north shore, compared to Honolulu, there is no one there. There is a little town on the north shore called Haleiwa. YOU HAVE TO GO THERE! And then you have to have shave ice at Matsumoto's. Get ice cream in the bottom of it! You can find it here: http://www.matsumotoshaveice.com/ Although this is on the internet, Haleiwa is a small town and it isn't really busy- although Matsumoto's always has a line out the door. LOL. It's is worth the wait!

OK! I will tell you one more thing! Do you like shrimp? If so, go to the shrimp trucks along the north shore. I have been told that there is one truck to stop at. It is called Giovanni's. It is not cheap - $12 for two scoops of rice and 12 shrimp - but it is good. I had the garlic shrimp and you have them put some of the sauce on your rice.........mmmmm. (http://www.portaloha.com/SecretsOfHawaii/Giovannis.htm)

OK, I will shut up now!

It's been about 15 years since I went, OUCH that makes me feel so old! Anyway...we went on this hike (not like in UT, it was SO easy, I think because you are at sea level and it's not like the mountains here). I keep getting side tracked...so is there a place called "Hidden Falls". You hike (walk) back to a waterfall and there is a pool. I can't for sure remember if that is the name, but it was really neat. I would reccomend that.

Not sure about snorkling with the dolphins other than on the Big Island of Hawaii. On Ohau, the only place I know of where everyone seems to snorkle is Hananama Bay. It's absolutely gorgeous! But really, anywhere in Hawaii is good to snorkle. Since you are going with friends who have a time share, my guess is they will know all the "hot spots". There is so much to see and do there and depending on how much you want to spend will decided on what attractions you go to see. Remember, Hawaii is a tourist's heaven and the merchants know it! We took a submarine ride the first year we were there. it was different, but I thought I would see tons of tropical fish but in reality I saw none! Read up on some of their weird laws too. If I remember right you are not allowed to come any closer than 50 ft. to a dolphin or a sea turtle. Heavy fines if you do! What ever you do, don't try to reach out and touch them! They do have a trolley system you can ride on to take you around Honolulu to the different tourist spots. Right off hand I don't remember how much it cost but it will get you around and back again. Lots and lots of shopping and oh, oh, oh....dont' buy any souviniers at these little shops. Instead I think on Wednesdays and the weekends, the Aloha Bowl (stadium) had a HUGE flea market. it will take you hours to walk around, but you can find every type of souvinier you can think of at a fraction of the cost! It's near Pearl harbor, I think in Pearl City just outside of Pearl Harbor. We bought so much stuff from there that we had to buy another suitcase to get it all back home again! for Instance 5 t-shirts for 20.00! Is anyone you are going with Military, retired or active? If so the exchange is a good place to go to also to find little trinkets, especially the famous macadamia nuts covered in chocolate! Very inexpensive and VERY good! Also try a cup of Kona coffee if you drink coffee. It's outstanding! Make sure it's 100% pure kona beans though! Oh gosh, you have my mind racing now!! LOL

There is another place to snorkel. It is called Shark Cove (just the name, I think!) and is on the north shore. Sharks can't really get in there due to the lava rock. If your driving along King Kamehameha highway (the road that goes all around the island), on the north shore, it is just a place by the side of the road across the street from a grocery store. It is just a two lane road, and I don't know how full it will be (of water) but it is a cool place to stop. I think you will love the north shore. It is not as touristy as Waikiki. Just lots of green! And beautiful! I have to get busy and scrap these photos!!!

I am gobsmacked! (Where the heck is that head-smacking smilie? :D)

Chris, in my wildest dreams, I would not have guessed that your last name did not have an *O* in it! Why in the world did you not set me straight? :o :o

Ok, everyone, please repeat after me, *I, (so and so), do hereby promise, from this moment forward to spell Chris's last name G-U-N-D-E-R-S-E-N*

Off she goes...chanting...S-E-N...S-E-N...S-E-N...

OK I have a fun test for you to see how good you are with color everyone!

http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77

You just move the squares around until they are in the proper order based on hue. After you go try, come back and tell us what you got. I did it and got 4. (You will have to go try it to see if that means I am good or not)

Sometimes it can take a little bit for avi's and siggies to change, because of the buffer or something. You can force it to happen sooner, by hitting ctrl+f5. That is called a hard refresh.

Well, i just learned that my eyesight is not perfect, but it is consistant. I finally found time to take that test again and scored another 3. Maybe I can find time later, after my eyes have rested, to try again.

OK, I am getting ready to post the last challenge for assignment #1, unless dh comes in and says babe let's go to lunch then you will have to wait a bit longer.

Pretty Please

When you are done w/ all of the assignments, just make a post that says I am done and it is all in post # whatever. I will still go through the thread, but w/ it this size, I really don't want to miss out on putting someone in the drawing that deserves a shot.

Now, a little mushy moment. Thanks so much for all of you that have come and joined in my grand opening celebration! To both my old friends and my new ones, you are all AWESOME!:hug::hug:

OK the final Bang assignment challenge is up, but you will all still come and do my challenges, right? All of you should be nodding your head yes right here.

A Funky Boo (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34622)

Elizabeth and I have also teamed up on this one so you can even get a bonus, bonus! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

You do NOT have to do the double challenge to be eligible for the BANG drawing (just Funky Boo is needed), but it is a great way to get 3 bonuses for one layout. :D The details are in the above link, with lots more links in there to find out everything you could ever hope to ask  (yes I went a little crazy w/ the links, so if you see yourself as you run around in circles wave and say hi.) :D
