View Full Version : Making "crop marks" in PSCS

I am designing some layouts that I am going to have printed online. I need to insert crop marks on them. I have inserted some guides so I know where my crop marks have to be placed (1/8 of an inch on all sides). What is the easiest way to do this? Using my line tool is kind of hard because it's such a small distance, and it's pretty tedious. Is there anyway to insert a triangular shape outline (no colored fill) in all of my corners? Is there some sort of "crop mark" custom shape thingy that is commonly acceptable?

I just tried using the line tool again, but because it's such a tiny distance, I'm not getting an exact meeting point between my two lines - it tends to overlap just a bit on one of the lines.

There's got to be an easier way, isn't there?

Andy, I don't really know what you're trying to do. Do you have an example image we could look at?

Hi Emma - I'm going to try to attach a screen shot to show you - but every time I do a screen shot, it comes out fuzzy and smaller, nothing like the big, clear screen shots that everyone else seems to attach.

I'll try to do attach it later tonight - I promised my youngest I would play a game of Wizard of Oz with her before she goes to bed.

Basically, my canvas is 10.12 x 10.25 and I need to place crop marks at 1/8 of an inch inside each corner. I went under HELP which instructed me to go to File>Print with Preview. I checked the Show More Options box and clicked Output in the dropdown menu. I checked Corner Crop Marks. But, nothing is appearing on my preview screen. When I click Done, there are no crop marks on my canvas, even when I clear the guides (I thought maybe the guides were hiding them).

Here's my screenshot:

Can you increase the canvas size about an inch on each side to give you more room to add your crop marks? Maybe they didn't show up before because there wasn't enough room.

To make a rectangle use the Marquee make your square and then stroke it. Try different stroke widths until you get the thickness you need. Copy and paste it four times. Then move each one into position using those guidelines as reference. Move it to the corner so most of it slides off the canvas leaving only the corner part you need.

I don't think I can increase my canvas size - the online printer told me that 10.25x10.25 was the size I was supposed to make it.

I'll try your suggestion though - never thought of doing it that way. I'll let you know if it works! Thank you!

Im not sure exactly that I know what you are after ( never had to add crop marks to a layout before) - but why cant you just use a straight line ????- use a hard round brush ( small)- click - hold shift and click again where you want the line to end - then repeat perpendicularly to make the corner???

Oh! I didn't know I could do that - I had been just using my line (custom shape) tool - I never thought of using my brush tool to make a small line like I need to make.

This is why PSCS is so frustrating for me - there are so many ways to do something and most of the time, I don't know any of them!

Thanks Lauren!
