This is Challenge #2 in my Starting with a Bang challenge. (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33918) Don't worry if you haven't started yet, you can still join in and catch up.
OK for this week, I have a challenge or a dare for you.-you do NOT have to complete the dare to get the posting bonus.
This week I want you to stretch, try something new and tell me about it in when you post. If you are normally a graphic girl (or boy), :) give traditional a try. Never tried OOB? What have you got to lose? To all of my mask-a-phobic friends, c'mon you can do it, I know you can. As I said above, you don't HAVE to do this, but it might be fun. :D

Here's mine! Please note the scraplift. I have literally been holding off doing this LO, practicing the techniques until I thought I could do this lift justice! (BTW - the dare was using blending modes which I have been trying hard to learn. I used the Multiply blend on 4 of the 5 photos, as well as a Gradient Mask to blend papers and photos.)

I really did try to do your dare, but I mymouse is just a chicken after all. I have trouble doing layouts with white space. That mouse has a mind of its own and even though my intentions were to use a plain bg it just took over and here is the result: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=281578

I used Lauren's blending tutorial (http://create4u.blogspot.com/2008/09/technique-tuesday-blending-2-layers.html) to complete this layout, although I wasn't happy with the results (for me) until I realized I could use the Magic Wand tool to select only a portion of the image to apply the gradient to. For my purposes, I ended up applying the blending/gradient technique to the dark trees that were in the foreground of the photo.
Also, I just downloaded the trial version of CS3 the other day, so I'm having tons of fun (and a certain amount of frustration) trying out all the options available in that program compared to PSE6.

What exactly are you trying to say? That I should have worn a mask? :annoyed::annoyed:

Actually, Miss Gundimitus, I DID use a mask! ;) I masked off the bits and pieces of the picture beyond the frame!
And, in all seriousness, I gotta tell you, I've been doing quite a bit of masking on my layouts. It seems way, way easier in PSCS3 than in PSP! TA DA!!! :yippee:

I haven't figured out how to use masks yet or what they are for! I have this super duper program that is a little advanced for me! Even after taking the class there is still a ton more I need to learn! I can't even do an extraction with it yet or a quick click. I still go back to my old program ocassionally. New Technology for "Seniors' is tough!

Go ahead and ask your mask questions to Crys, she needs to make sure she REALLY knows how to use them. ;) ;) ;) :D Don't worry though I will jump in if she starts leading you astray.

I felt like I changed your kit a bit too much (even if it was only one little step). I wanted everyone to see how great it looks without chaging the colors. It is a very flexible kit and was wonderful to play around with. Here it is:http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=281964

I haven't posted in nearly 5 months since I've moved from Michigan to Texas but was going through severe withdrawl!!! and saw this great kit!!! Thanks Gundi for the inspiration. I actually did two different LO's...
The first Playing in the Park (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=282048) is of my niece playing and posing for me in the park.
The second Rudy (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=282049) was an attempt to layer a "vellum" layer over the photos. I didn't like how it turned out, I'll keep playing with it, but did like how it layered over the dark bark colored paper. I took a small snippet of the "leaf" paper, lightened it and then made it almost transparent... I really like the "old fashioned" it and the wire frames give the shots... I would have loved the shots in sepia but... only so much time. LOL

Here's my "In A Forest glade" layout. For this one, I created my first mask for blending. I used a sponge brush around the edges of the photo (and the green strip) and then I used the background paper to create a texture mask used over the entire photo at about 30% opacity. I think I'll be doing this a lot in future. It was so much easier than I thought it would be.I have used masks before but was never able to find one that did exactly what I wanted. Now I'll never have that prolem again.I really appreciated this challenge.
