You can check it out here (http://create4u.blogspot.com/2008/09/technique-tuesday-transform-again-and.html) - This one may well work with PSE - I havent tested it though - perhaps someone who has PSE can let me know.

Great Lauren, I have been using multiple transformations for resizing, but never used it for moving or lining up.
Thanks :)

This is a great little tip ... I was very frustrated at first as it just wasn't working! I almost always you File > Place to bring elements into my documents, which is what I did when I started to try this. So I had a smart object, and it wasn't working! I thought to rasterize the element, and it worked like a charm!

I have PSE5 on my work laptop, and it does not seem to work.

Another trick for evenly spaced elements (especially if you have them in your document already, or if they are not the same element) is to use Layer > Distribute. Lets say you have 5 different elements in a row across your page, oddly spaced. Select them all then click Layer > Distribute and select the method (for example, a group of elements that goes across the page I usually use Horizontal Centers), and voila, your elements are evenly spaced.

It's not working for me either in PSE 5.

Thanks for sending in this tip, Kalthleen. I'm going to play with it right now.

Arrgh - when I click on Layer, I don't see Distribute as an option. I must be doing something wrong here. Maybe this tip is for PSC. I am using PS 5.

Sorry! My tip was for full Photoshop (I primarily use PSCS3).

BUT... looking at PSE5, if I have several layers selected, I then get a context sensitive menu bar just above the document workspace ... several options I see are Arrange, Align and Distribute (each with a drop down). Pick Distribute, and voila!!!

You may think it's a simple tip, Lauren, but compared to the way I've been doing it..... :annoyed:   I have very little scrapping time right now, but I'm downloading your lessons religiously.

BTW, shouldn't you be giving yourself credit in the PDFs? I rename them with your name added, but.........

Thanks, Kathleen, this worked nicely. I love these kind of tips.

yes the align and distribute buttons are very underused - ( like just about everything you can do in photoshop there are always multiple ways to complete any task - ) - some of them will work in PSE - others wont - - I love the multiple transform for things like drawing lines - if you want a lined paper - just draw one line - duplicate and move down and then alt-cntrl- shift - and T as many times as you need lines - this is a HUGE time saver

Not mine! I use them all the time. But I also really like to have things lined up.

Great tip, Lauren! I'm trying it out with a spiral, but I must not be coordinated or holding my mouth just right.;) I can't work out how to get it to spiral. The elements are just resizing in a line. I'll work on it tonight when I have more time.

I had to fiddle a little to get it to work, here are the steps I followed ... Lauren hope it is OK I elaborate on your technique, and if I have made anything more complicated, let us know!

Make sure the object is rasterized first!

(1) select (just highlight in the layers palette, no marching ants or anything like that) the item you want to duplicate and transform again
(2) Ctrl+J to duplicate the layer, you should now have the same element in exactly the same place
(3) press Ctrl+T to go into transform mode
(4) move, resize, rotate your element, and then press enter or the check mark to confirm all of the transformations
(5) Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T, again, again, and again!

When I first started playing, at first I had my element go off the page, and then not really in a spiral. I went to Lauren's PDF and copied and pasted the 4th graphic she has showed as an example (butterflies swirled in a spiral) and placed it in my PSCS3 document underneath my butterfly element. I placed my butterfly on top of the big one, and then used the second butterfly as a guide for where to place my second one, how much to rotate it, etc.

Hope this helps!

To get the spiral you need to resize rotate and move your duplicate around a little - as in like you would be making the first step of your spiral . This is also the same for any transformation you want to reproduce - you have to make that first step in your initial transformation because all PS is doing is repeating what you just did!!!
