Lisa, just click on the triangle beside "online" button on the offending post to report it to administration. I hope it hasn't done any damage to your computer.

I have reported 4 posts already this morning ... someone apparently has targeted our forums today.

I am sure the powers that be here at DSP will kick them out!

Yeah, we seem to be the target of spam today - keep reporting them. :)

Yes - sorry about some of these - please keep reporting. They have been flooding into our Inboxes and we delete them as fast as we can.

Mandy, You are doing great at getting them off! I've been trying to catch up with all the challenge threads so have been using 'New Posts' a lot this AM. I think I'm up to 5 or 6 that I have reported. All of them are already gone!!!!!!

Thank Lisa - but I can't take the credit - its a team effort by team DSP to keep our forums clean and safe :)

LOL! Just read that as the generic "You" as in all of you! The team here is really the best!

yes, we're sorry for the inconvenience, and the stupidity of some of them! about 30 people are alerted instantly when you report, so please continue that and one of us will be on it. we have some controls in place that avoids most of that, but today is just a long day in spamalot it seems.

Well, tonight they are busy posting nasties again. Is there a quick way to report a post without opening it? Usually you can tell by the title that is will be off. I opened one to report and it had photos in it and I had to scroll right down through it all to get to the report button. So other posts came on later similar to that and I didnt report them because I didnt want to see those photos again.

Can you not ban them permanently? I know they will probably just sign up with another username but at least they can't post continually.

I mean, can't you ban them using their IP address and not just the username?

Unfortunately, there's no way to avoid stuff like this all of the time. Same with trying to protect our kids from seeing garbage -- can't be successful 100% of the time. Kudos to all of you, though -- I've never seen threads deleted so quickly. THE DSP STAFF HAS DONE AN AMAZING JOB!!

I so agree! Once things got on a role yesterday, some posts were deleted almost before you could report them! Great Job everybody!!!!

That would be too easy, wouldn't it?! Unfortunately, there are ways to mask and change and hide IP addresses so that what comes through once won't necessarily be the same the next time, or is real the first time. There are also hackers who can get into unprotected personal computers and use THEIR email and computer to do these things (I've had it happen! Ugly!!) So stopping one IP won't keep them from using another, even if a fake one. It's called IP Spoofing.

There's also IP Hopping where one can hop from server to server (and IP to IP) to mask the ID.

Hackers and spammers are clever. What a waste to use those smarts on something so crude and unwanted as spam!

i know! i think we should hire them to work here and keep this site running. we could use their talent for good. :D
we're doing lots behind the scenes to make it better now and avoid it in the future. although bad technology keeps up with the good, so we'll always have a job to do here. :)

Margie, this is still the most clean, positive and upbeat website I've ever been involved with -- and, like Al Gore, I was there when the Internet was invented. You can only do what you can.

An old email just kept popping into my head during yesterday's "battle" -- very loosely edited, of course, but it kept giving me a chuckle when thinking of the grannies.

Want to win the war on spam? Take all DSP women who are within five years of menopause and train us for a few weeks.....Outfit us with computers, mice, Wacom tablets, Prozac, hormones, chocolate, and pretty little red triangle alert buttons to hit. Send us all across the virtual landscape of the Internet and let us do what comes naturally....Let us go and FIGHT. Most spammers are immature men. Just imagine their terror as we surf like ants with hot-flashes through their godforsaken terrain.

Wow. I didn't even know such spam was a problem here. I don't use the New Posts button much (okay, never), because I prefer to go through forum by forum (I guess I'm methodical like that). Anyway, I have never seen any such spam on DSP and I can only assume it's because you do a fabulous job keeping it away from most of us. Thank you so much for the work you do. I know I appreciate it and I suspect many others do as well.

we get it occasionally and jump on it quickly of course, and we had spam control measures in place. but yesterday/today was a big attack, although we've instituted quite a few more control measures. so these *should* be caught long before they reach your pretty little eyes anymore! we sure hate for you to grab a coffee, sit down, and then go !! :D

if you do see anything, simply hit the button to report it and the team will respond. we're on 24/7! but hopefully the new measures will make that job much easier.

my HUGE thanks to the staff who worked so hard on it all!
