I have a question, is there an easy way to select and recolor an item on patterened paper, say you have patterned paper with different colors of dots on it and you want to pick and choose all blue dots and recolor to yellow, for example, how do I do that? Is there a quick way to do it, with brushes maybe? Thanks for any help

I don't know what software program you are using, but in most advanced photo editing software, you can select the "yellow" and change the hue to blue using the hue/saturation. My software lets me chose blue/yellow/green/red etc to individually change the hue saturation and that's what I would probably use. This won't work if the surrounding color is a shade of yellow (i.e. light yellow dots on yellow paper), but will work fine for yellow dots on blue paper or something similar.

Looking at a couple LOs, I think you use CS2. You should be able to use the magic wand to make a selection. Fiddle with your tolerance settings and make sure contiguous is not checked. Then use Hue/Saturation adjustment.

OR

Image > Adjustments > Replace Color. Use the eyedropper to pick the color you want to replace, and then use the box on the lower part of the dialog box (Replacement) to make your new color selection.

I use CS3, but I think the above are unchanged.

you can use the select color range tool. Edit- select- color range. When the dialgue box opens use the eyedropper to click on the color you wish to select and adjust the slider to take in more or less. Click ok then your selection will be made and you can use the hue saturation slider to change the colour. It's best to make those changes on an adjustment layer so you can change them more easily.

Another way is to just use the hue/saturation, and then in the drop down box click "blues" then use the dropper and select that blue then adjust the slider. Easy peasy. Oh and like Lauren said...use the adjustment layer.

And, of course, there's always your trusty COLOR REPLACE brush (nested underneath your regular paint BRUSH in the tool palette). Just set your foreground color (the color you'd like to have) and the background color (the color you want to replace) ... make sure your in COLOR mode. Paint over the areas you want to change and you'll see the color change as you go! (This will ONLY change color ... not saturation or depth of color)
