I am new to this thing of digi scrapping, could someone answer a few questions...
I have been looking at all the homework posted in the gallery and for example-
in the valentine papers the 'hearts' and 'lips' - are they created by the student or giveN to the student somehow like a brush. I guess what I am getting at is... are the things they are learning to make "theirs" alone or are there copyright issues if you wanted to so something comercial with them later on?
Thanks
Diann

i'm not sure on that class, you'll have to ask the instructors. lauren@dsplace.com and kim@dsplace.com. but they are copyrighted to whoever made them. so if you learn to make them, they're yours. not sure if i understood your question correctly, but ask the instructors and they can help you out. :)

This is a great question - how do you know if a brush you have can be used for commerical work or not? Same with styles and patterns?
A little insight for the original poster on this thread - this class the instructor's provided the brushes, styles and patterns along with instruction as to how to use them to make these valentine "kits". It's been wonderful! We can either use what they provided or create our own brushes etc...if we know how.
If you don't know how to make them then you can take the Making Elements classes here at DSP where Lauren provides phenomenal step by step instruction to teach you how to make your own elements. She is very thorough in her teaching and you'll be amazed what you learn.
I took both of the Making Elements classes and loved them. This is the second two week class that Lauren and Kim are teaching and for me and my resources - I don't plan to ever miss one of their classes! They are excellent!
That information is a little off from your question but since you are new I thought it might be helpful! I hope somebody can clarify on the copywrite thing though. Since I'm just starting to really use brushes myself it would be helpful to know the ins and outs!

they're very similar to fonts or elements. you have to ask the original creator. many times that info will be posted on the website you download them from. (another reason why it's so important to keep track) sometimes they'll include a text file with that info, or contact info at least. sometimes you'll have to search and try to find what you found a year ago (not fun!) but necessary... :)

All presets included in our valentine ( and other ) classes are for personal use only - They are all named DSP so there is no confusion !!! However if you want to learn to make your own as Mary Ellen mentioned earlier - my classes DSU 211 and 311 give you all the necessary knowledge to do this!!!

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.....
It is much appreciated.
I will go back and look at the info on the 2 classes you mentioned
Again thanks

Diann, are you using Photoshop? Be sure to check out the translated classes for PSP or PSE if you use those, DSU 231 and 261. Also, you might want to take the Intro classes before taking the Element-creation classes so you're really comfortable with the software first. Either way, just shoot an email to info@digitalscrapbookplace.com to be added to a reminder list for March registration
I never thought about the copyright issues for those creating with the presets I include in my classes...I too included the name DSU in all of them, and there is a Terms of Use link at the end of each lesson to answer those questions.
Good question! Let us know what you decide class-wise. Any other thoughts?
