I need to get a faster, better 12 x 12 paper cutter to trim my album pages that I print. I really don't want a rotary cutter; I'd rather have a guillotine cutter. Does any one have any recommendations for one that they love. I was looking at the Purple Cow ones but the reviews on them were about 50 - 50 so I wanted to hear what you all love the best.

Great question! I used to trim by hand, meaning I used a self-healing cutting mat, a ruler and a knife (exacto knife, box cutter, etc). It is tedious, but precise, unless the ruler slips! I have a rotary cutter (Fiskars brand) that I use more often now, but get frustrated with it because if pressure is not evenly applied, the line is not even (I'm talking less than an 1/8" variance, but it really bugs me). On occasion when picking up photos at our Costco I have used their cutter - clearly a "professional" quality cutter. It is a rotary cutter, and is perfect every time. It has been on my list of things to look into. I'll pay attention to their brand next time. In the meantime, I checked out B&H, and trimmers can certainly get expensive. You can see their selection of trimmers up to 15" here (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=search&A=search&Q=&ci=0&sb=bs%2Cupper(ds)&sq=asc&sortDrop=Price%3A+High+to+Low&ac=&bsi=&bhs=t&ci=860&shs=&at=Size_Up+To+15%22&basicSubmit=Submit+Query).
Every guillotine cutter I have ever used seems to become uneven quickly, and seems to merit a "permanent" home (desk space I'm not willing to give it), and they make me nervous with kids around. The one thing I like about the rotary cutters is they can be tucked away under the desk.
I'm curious to see if maybe one of our photo experts might have some opinions here.

PAPER? what's that then?
I did buy one for my one and only project ever, its just a little guillotine thing (I don't know the brand but I cut out all my Christmas Cards and trim printed digi layouts with it too)
I would lean toward something that can be used for other purposes too, Like Rotary cutters can also be used with quilting.

I've got a couple of Fiskers cutters, but it is so tedious trimming my prints with them. The Purple Cow is supposed to be safe around children so that was why I wanted to order it, but after the reviews I didn't know what to do. I've printed a lot of my pages & now need to trim them to put in albums. And I have a ton more to print & trim. Just was curious what everyone uses.

Ok - here's the BEST cutter (http://www.genesistrimmer.com/) you can buy (IMO). It costs a good chunk of CHACHING & takes some patience to wait for it after you order it BUT it will last you a lifetime. HTH -c-

I used to work at a print shop and we had a Dahle rotary cutter that was fabulous (See Kathleens link - it looked like the $123 one). I have a fiskars cutter (not the rotary one - the one with the little slider) and when I can justify buying a new one, I want a rotary cutter with metal hardware that won't move around when I cut.
I don't know anything about the purple cow cutter. But the guillotine cutters that I have used, you have to hold your photo/paper very carefully and if you are making precise cuts and you can only cut one at a time because the blade will pull the paper toward the blade. The duller the blade gets the more it pulls. And most have to be professionally sharpened.

I realize this thread is kind of old, but I thought I would offer some recommendations. I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but if you can afford it, I would go with the Rotatrim Professional rotary paper cutter (http://www.officezone.com/m2rotar.htm) or the MBM Kutrimmer (http://www.officezone.com/mbm.htm#mbmmancut) series.
