A friend of mine is using PSP and is wondering what format templates made in PSP is saved in? Any help would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! :love2:
If she saves it in .psd form, it can be used by PSP and Photoshop and PSElements which would make it very versatile.

When PSP saves a PSD file, is it saved in the layers or as a flattened image? I'm asking because I was in a digital swap and I saved the layout for the recipient as a PSD file since she was using one of those products. It showed the layers for me but when she opened it, she had a flattened image. Luckily I still had the pspimage format and could make the change she wanted and sent it to her as a jpg.
I'm using PSP X2.
I just tried it in my PSCS3 and PSPX2 and created a 4 layer thingy in PSPX2 and saved it as a .psd and when I opened it in PSCS3, it had all the different layers, just like it had in PSP. Don't know why mine worked and yours didn't though.
Just a thought - perhaps she had different versions than you did???

You might want to double check your PSD settings - I've saved in layered Photoshop files out of PSP from version 8 to X. I've no idea if they changed that in XI or X2, but I'd think they wouldn't have.
It will open them, too, so you can save it, and then double check if you need to.
Did your friend use File/Open in her Photoshop or something else? Also, if you have vector or text layers, or layer styles, in your X2, they are some of the things that won't translate so well to PS. You'll want to be sure to rasterize any layers like that?

So how do I check my PSD settings? This was the first time I had ever saved a file as a psd. I always use the pspimage format but since everyone else in the swap uses PS, I tried it.
I don't know how she opened the file. Only thing I know is she is using PS on a Mac. But thinking back on it, I just might have had a text layer in there. I had some text in the layout and I probably didn't rasterize it thinking that she could change it if she wanted.
Thanks for the answers. I'll try it again when we have our next digital swap and see what happens!

Whups, a PSD file has no settings, I'm sorry about that. I'm so used to other kinds of files having settings in the options button on the save dialog!
I use PS on a Mac at work and trade files back and forth between it and my Windows machine all the time. Both PSCS2. My only trouble is remember which fonts are installed on both machines. ::grin::
Yeah ... for text, just rasterize it and leave it on its own layer. It can't be changed, but it could be replaced.
At home, I use PSD file format for everything in Photoshop and in PSP, that way they can be traded back and forth. But there are some things in Photoshop that PSP can't load ... in which case I get a flat file in PSP. And there are some things in PSP that Photoshop can't load, but they are usually converted into a raster layer when it is saved and preserved on their own layer.
I've never worked with layer effects in PSP to know what it does with those. My PSP is X, before there were layer effects.

Thanks Deb!
I'll try it next time.
I know I didn't have any layer effects cause I haven't gotten those figured out yet. I first started digi-scrapping with V7 last December. Since I also had V9 (I liked V7 better for printing pictures so used it all the time and just couldn't get used to V9), I switched to it. After a few months when I knew I was gonna do digi-scrapping for the long haul, I upgraded. Haven't taken the time to learn everything yet!
