I know exactly what you mean! Two years ago, I was at a hotel and trying to buy my stuff at the last minute and the hotel's clock was off.   I missed it by like 5 min and I had all of this stuff in my cart. It was so sad!!! So definitely, shop early and often.

Oh yeah and I was out at 5:00am. Got socks, jammies and rubbermaid all at 50% off. Good job me! I also got an 8MB SD card for my camera. :yahoo: I was seriously tempted by some EHDs too, but figured I couldn't just buy everything for me :D

I DON'T do Black Friday IRL sales. I hate crowds and it would take an absolutely, positively, amazing sale price on an item that I already planned to buy for me to brave the stores today.
But... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Black Friday online sales. I got a few homeschool downloads (gotta love a lapbook for an American Girl book my daughter just loves), but I bought 10 items from DSP. I would have liked to do double that amount, but I do need to budget a little.
I purchased:
Scraps of Life: All Girls CD (downloadable)
Scraps of Words: Doodlicious Word Art CD (downloadable)
Scraps of Style: QuickClick CD (downloadable)
QuickBits Rolled Corners
Edge Decor Stamp Set
Cracked & Creased Overlay #2
Distressed and Grungy Overlays
Let Love Grow Page Kit
Plum Bliss Page Kit
Mocha Latte Love Page Kit
Now I am downloading and doing some serious (and sadly overdue) organizing of my harddrive.
I did get up early - 4:20 am - this morning along with my mom, bro, and his friend. The friend had never participated in Black Friday sales and, since it has become a tradition here, he REALLY wanted to join us! So we were up at midnight scouring the ads and then up at 4:20 looking for stuff! The lines were so short compared to past years.
I got...
a new EHD (I keep breaking mine so this time I'm keeping two updated; I'm sick of reloading everything off DVDs)
a digital picture frame (going to put it in my classroom with pics of my students in it. They'll love it)
a CD
another memory card for my camera
some earphones for my iPod
But I want to know what everyone bought here at DSP!!!!

My daughter has a second job at a mall store for the season; she had to be at work at 5, so I got up to make sure she got up, finished my Erica Dip layout, and went back to bed. To tell you how tired I was (after cooking all day and cleaning up), when I woke up this morning I had put my CPAP mask over my glasses.
I waited to buy most of my challenge kits until 9 p.m. my time (which was midnight DSP time) and checked out right away.
I bought 20 items in all.
2 or 3 word arts
5 or so challenge kits
1 Meryl Quick Click
Elizabeth's Photography quick click
A Christmas alpha
Couple of new Christmas kits (hoping they'll end up as challenge kits)
2 Meryl Overlays that Sabina has used
One kit and two ploppers for my Bermuda cruise next May
One "just because" kit

I think it was 63 all together. I love having my birthday so close to Black Friday :yahoo: Now I'm off to go start unzipping and categorizing in ACDSee. Hoping to get to some scrapping later today :D

This year I slept in, nothing worth getting up at 4am for. However I started my Black Friday shopping at 9pm(midnight at dsp so got a jump on things). First thing I did was...who wants to guess?...yep, bought Pez on sale(hmm, wonder if Margie got her BCA pez yet?). So far there are 19 things in my cart...

Well, I may be the one person who didn't take full advantage of the DSP sale today. We are really short this paycheck, so there really isn't any extra money. This sale I only got 4 things from the store. I bought challenge kits/products. As usual. Wish I could have done more but the girls need diapers.
Robin E.
11-28-2008, 05:52 PM
Oh, Jennifer I totally understand. In fact, it is a BIG coincidence that we had enough money for me to get what I got. You'll noticed that I got three CD's too, because that's the most bang for my buck, so to speak. 12 kits or 24 QuickClicks for only $10!!!

Ywah. And I am with you on going out on Black Friday for the sales. I refuse to brave those lines. Sometimes the sales aren't worth it. Although, Ive been bugging my husband to go to Walmart and get the plasma tv we've been dying for (since it's hecka inexpensive right now) and we'll pay for it with our christmas bonus.... He's not keen to the idea of ANOTHER credit card, so to make the deal sweeter for him, I wrote up and signed a contract promising that his christmas bonus will go to pay the tv bill if he gets it now (I'm notorious for spending the money on something else after I've said I'd use it to pay off a bill). Now he has documentation to hold me to it! LOL! Hopefully he comes home with diapers and a flat screen! We've had the same stupid big bulky tv for a while now (I owned it for 3-4 years before we were married). I'm tired of it!!!

My hubby was at Wal-Mart getting ice before dawn this morning (he, our two oldest boys, his brother, and nephews are off on a fishing/camping trip) and he said it was nuts already. He said he saw one lady buying 4 large flat screen TVs!

I've been a pretty solid shopper getting things i like when I see them, but I had some things I missed because I was MIA for about 3 months from DSP (jun-sep) and then the last month or so things have been a little difficult (a lot of my clients were not paying up and I was going broke) and the exchange rate took a bit of a dive. But I am going back to the workforce and someone else will have to worry about paying me, so I could have a little splurge

THERE! I'm finally finished downloading, extracting, and crediting all my purchases. I always add the URL and keyword number to the TOU files as soon as I download anything, and with the three Scraps of... CDs, particularly that QuickClick one with 24 QuickClicks, that was a lot of work.
I guess I'll get around to organizing my harddrive another day. I've got computer eyes now.

Well, I have been shopping in the store twice today and the night is still young! So far I think I have about 15 items that I purchased out of my wish list and still have a few more!
The only place you will find me on Black Friday is at the PC shopping! I learned my lesson several years ago at a McRae's Cracker Jack Sale!
I also just heard on the evening news that an employee of a local (Alabama)WalMart was trampled early this morning by the mob waiting to get in the doors! Yep, the poor man got knocked down and trampled. He did not make it....died at the hospital.
Now you know why I don't go out on a day like this!
Here's a list of some of the things I bought in the store:
Create-A-Card Scalloped
Flowers, Flourishes & Foliage Funky & Fun Embellishment Set
Flowers, Flourishes & Foliage Hot Stuff Embellishment Set
Flowers, Flourishes & Foliage Embellishments _Traditional

oh no dont mention organisation, I am still halfway through organising (well re-organising after computer incident a while a go now)
Jennifer, if I had any bubbies to look after like you do, the last month would have been very difficult indeed, even my rabbit has been eating weeds (luckily she loves milk thistle and dandelion and they are plentiful at the moment and good for her, pity I dont like eating weeds )

Done!! 24 items and under budget!! Set a limit of $40.00 and my total came to $39.50!
Now comes the hard part of downloading and extracting. And the even harder part, at least for me right now (am in a major creative funk although you couldn't tell by my shopping cart) is actually doing something with all these great goodies.....
Oh, and I did my checking out way before midnight!! Usually it's 8:50pm here when I remember about the 3 hour difference then do a mad scramble to meet the deadline...

So sad about the walmart employee! What a way to go! You'd think someone would be kind enough to try to help the poor man, but of course all the people cared about was saving a few bucks. Poor guy dies from it...and at walmart! If I were his family, I'd sue...but then again, who would you sue? Walmart? He was probably in charge of opening the doors. If I were the store manager, I would have placed about 3-4 people at the doors to try to slow down the crowd....especially when you see them all crowding closer and tighter at the doors.
An unfortunate accident... That's why I stay indoors on Black Friday. Online sales are sometimes even better than the store deals. And it's safe and easy and stress free (unless you have poor connection or slow server issues).
Looks like we're going to have to wait on our TV. At least until next month. Hubby decided he wanted to wait after all. Oh well. He's the boss! At least I can still look forward to it next month...and I have my CS3 Design Premium coming on Monday and once I get that I can call Adobe for my free CS4 upgrade. Then later next week I can get my EHD. Then we get our TV... Then there's Christmas, of course. So next month is looking pretty good for me.
Sorry so long. Nothing else to do right now. I'm procrastinating on finishing my school homework and kits for the designer contest. Homework has to be first, though. It's due today! Then I have to light a fire under my you-know-what and get those kits for the contest done! LOL! I'm a busy woman. Good thing Hubby has off and my mom is here. They can keep the kids entertained while I work!

that is terrible that someone had to lose their life in that way, how awful for him and his family.
I have crowd issues too, for a while I couldn't even go out on late night shopping nights here, but tend to just stay away all together during rush season. Though if I start doing too much online I would be in serious danger of becoming a hermit and lot leaving the house at all.

I had a hair appointment right near school today, and I went early so that I could go to my classroom and get a few days ahead. The school didn't look open, though, and I was afraid to go in and set off the alarm. Went shopping instead. Bought my MIL a vest with lots of heart appliques all over it. Then I went to Books a Million and got those page-a-day calendars for the other third grade teachers on my team. What a hoot it was looking for them. A whole aisle (very long) devoted entirely to calendars. Pooped (tired) Puppies. Golden Retriever Puppies. Golden Retrievers. You name it, and there was a calendar for it! So, I purchased a fact-a-day about Left Handers for Matt who is a leftie. A Shopping Tip-a-Day for Denise, the verified shopaholic. And a Brain Teaser-a-Day for Justyna, the gal who teaches the Gifted students. With the purchase, I also got a calendar for book lovers. Maybe I will keep it for myself. All of them came with 10% off with my BAM card! Woo Hoo!
Here at DSP, I bought the following:
Darcy kit
Darcy AOP
Darcy backpacks
Date Rings embellishments
Dressed in Black AOP
Foggy Day

How very sad about the Walmart employee. I used to go Black Friday shopping when we visited my mom for Thanksgiving, but we'd always go out after lunch because at that point all the early shoppers were going home. Since we go up a week or two early now I don't go out if I can avoid it.
I only purchased up to my weekly limit but since the sale was so good I got twice as much stuff.

I've been noticing a lot of people bought Nicole's Mocha Latte Love Page Kit. It's beautiful, isn't it? (I've noticed a lot of people got certain Christmas/winter kits too, but since winter for us is highs in the 60s I'm not over interested in kits with snow).

But you get snow SOMETIMES, don't you? (sorry, I don't know my AU geography too well) We do "Christmas in July", when it's 115+ degrees here (occasionally 120+). We just never get snow; it's either lovely green or scorched brown. Also, our family doesn't do santa claus or Christmas trees or a lot of the more mainstream Christmas traditions, so most Christmas kits are unappealing to me anyway (but we DO do Christmas, it took me years to get it through my father's head that we can still "do" Christmas without santa claus and Christmas trees and such).

Some parts of Australia do get snow, but not Adelaide, its the dryest state in the dryest continent on earth so very little rain and definitely no snow and not much high ground where we may get some flakes occasionally either. There have been some hail storms and one I remember about 16 years ago that caused groundcover that looked like snow.
I was born in Sth Africa in Cape Town and it never snowed there either (actually has a very similar climate to Adelaide)
in 1995 I did a round the world trip and was so excited about being in the Northern Hemisphere so that I could see snow and it literally snowed in all the places I went to either just before I got there or just after I left
I did eventually get to see snow a couple of years ago on special trip to experience it, and while I thought it was pretty and I was very excited, I just could not learn how to ski and ended up hiding out in the chalet near the fire all the time
Totally off topic, but anyway (everyone else please feel free to tell all what you bought I am just ranting)

Plus miscellaneous QC, Groupies, Word Art and Elements. Still more I wanted to get but I pretty much cleared out about 5 or 6 pages of my wish list.
I bought some stuff for my sister for Xmas. She gave me some ideas and then I picked out some other stuff I thought she would like. The sale sure was nice - - made me able to get her twice as much stuff!!! I can't list what I got here in case she happens to read this thread, but my mom and I had fun picking it all out!!! My sis seems to like Nicole's style so there were a number of her kits, but I know there were a lot of other designers in there as well! It was almost as much fun as getting them for myself and now I don't have to unzip and catalogue them all!! :) :) I do have to download them though...
