printer not matching screen??

Not sure what info is relevant so I will just give it all. The basic issue is some of my scanned images do not print the way they look on the screen.

I use an Epson RX680 all in one to scan and to print. If I just scan and print they look fine. My program of choice is PSP x. Now I used to use The Printshop 22 and the pictures printed just fine.

I have always had this issue with PSP which was why in spite of everything else it can do I fell away from it into the other programs. Since joining this site I want to work to make this program work and with the help of some other members I am coming along nicely.

so if anyone has any idea why this program might be printing just the scanned pictures as darker then they look on the screen, everything else looks the same.

Oh, I'm glad you posted this. I thought it was just me! I have a similar set-up: PSP X2 and Epson RX595. I just bought the Epson a couple of months ago and have been disappointed in many of the pictures I've printed. I haven't tried to scan and then print; but I've tried to print digitally-created LOs that have beautiful rich detailed backgrounds. The printed LO is much darker than what I'm seeing on my monitor, especially if the background is already dark.

I suspect that one of our wise tech-y members will come along and tell us to calibrate the monitor and the printer. And then I'll have to admit: I don't know how and not sure where to start.

Or maybe they will come along with some other techno magic for us.

I'll be anxiously awaiting a response on this one!

I read some where else do not recall where that if everything you print looks different then your screen you should calibrate it using and external devise. The one that was recommended ColorVision Spyder I am not sure i need to spend the money on a calibration device since I am only having one type of print issue. Let's hope a tech Friend will be along soon to help us both. :D

There are all kinds of technical answers, which I don't have (sorry), but monitor calibration is one and I don't have the $$ for that either - what I've been doing is just brighten the one on the monitor and then it prints beautifully :) ... I'm sure there are better ways to do this, but that's worked for me!

If PSP has an option to let the printer manage colours then try that

Your scanner could need color calibration as well as your monitor and your printer.

Color calibration programs for your monitor aren't cheap at all, but PSP does support color management. There are separate color calibration programs/devices for your printer, as well. Also not cheap, as Abby mentioned.

Check all the devices and see if there are color profiles available for them. The industry standard are called ICC Profiles. Install them, select them, and then start juggling until you have reached a happy co-existence with them.

That's the long-term advice.

Scour your scanner manual for calibration how-to information in the short run. It sounds like you've already kind of made peace with the monitor and printer as they are.
