View Full Version : NEW announcements for the NEW Year at DSP! It's a Scrapolution!

Team Digital
12-30-2008, 08:26 PM
Digital Scrapbook Place is coming up on its 5th year since opening April 1, 2004. In the past 5 years, we have experienced a tremendous amount of growth, becoming the largest digital scrapbooking website and home to more than 142,000 members! With growth comes change, and DSP will be announcing a lot of exciting NEW things over the next few months. Be ready!

It’s a DSP evolution, a scrapping revolution, and our New Year’s resolution:
It’s a SCRAPOLUTION!

And it’s all about YOU, our members, our friends, making scrapping goals and Team Digital supporting, guiding, encouraging, joining, and cheering you on every step of the way. More on your part after these announcements!

Here are just some of the great NEW things for the NEW Year!

NEW SHORTCUT! Tired of typing out www.digitalscrapbookplace.com (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com) or telling it to friends? Use www.dsp.me (http://www.dsp.me)! Why? Um, because it’s shorter, and because in 2009, it’s all about ME! Well, since you’d be typing, YOU. :D

NEW SIZE! DSP is excited to announce NEW products (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com) at 300 ppi! You asked and we listened! We recognize that some of our customers are printing in larger formats and with professional book printers that require 300 ppi images, so we are pleased to announce as of January 1, many DSP products will be available at 300ppi! And don't worry, they will also still be available at 200 ppi for our customers who prefer smaller file sizes. So you get to choose– great print quality and large file sizes or great print quality and small file sizes. It’s a win-win situation! So watch the drop down box when you check out to make sure and get the ppi you want. :) Don't miss all the great new products (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=products_new) available now!

NEW SENIOR DESIGNER! Congratulations to Erica Belton (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/erica.shtml), who was promoted to Senior Designer! You'll now see more of Erica's wonderful designs, and they'll be part of DSP CDs and Club Digital!

NEW DESIGNERS! Help us welcome Claudia Watkins (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/claudiawatkins.shtml), Robyn Gough (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/robyngough.shtml), and Ruby Rynne (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/rubyrynne.shtml), three wonderful NEW designers to join Team Digital. You’ll love their designs available in the store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com) soon! Watch for their chats and challenges to get to know them better too!

NEW APPRENTICE DESIGNERS! We also welcome four NEW apprentice designers to the team: Heidi Kuester (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=4970), Susie Lancaster (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=54483), Sarah Broderick (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=80280), and Teresa Loman (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=88529). They’ll also be adding their great designs to the store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com) soon, so be ready for those!

NEW DSU INSTRUCTORS & CLASSES! NEW instructors Melissa Green (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/melissagreen.shtml), Christine Gundersen (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/christinegundersen.shtml), and Erica Belton (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/erica.shtml) will be offering NEW classes at DSU (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/classes.shtml) soon, including brushes, elements, backgrounds, photo correction, photos montage, and more. Some start in January!

NEW STAFF MEMBERS! DSP will be adding NEW moderators in the coming months to help keep the site running smoothly, with Tara Dreier (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/taradreier.shtml) as the NEW Community Manager! A NEW events team, led by Meg Beverly (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/company/designers/megbeverly.shtml), the NEW Events Manager, will help run our current and exciting NEW events throughout the year. If you are interested in joining our team, let us know (info@digitalscrapbookplace.com)! We look for members who are active and supportive in the gallery and forum.

NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! Okay, that's not new since we do it every month, but Kathleen08 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/place/spotlight.shtml) is our NEW member to spotlight for January!

NEW SHARING OPTIONS! You will now find DSP represented all over the web. So be our friend, pal, fan, follower, or buddy. Just click the icons in the store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com) as you shop!

NEW WAYS TO GIVE! With the NEW DSP Pals (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=61&chapter=1), you can now send gift certificates to your pals without asking for their emails! You can even send them anonymously! Check out how the DSP Store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com) staff helps you help others.

NEW MOTIVATION! As part of the Scrapolution, we want to inspire you to meet YOUR scrapping goals! If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time. So let’s aim at something and set a goal! And for a NEW way to keep track, we are introducing FLAIR (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35871)! Meet a goal, then add Flair to your Flair Card (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35871) for your signature! Try a challenge, take a class, finish a layout… add Flair! Grab your Flair Kit in the Scrapolution Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6648)! What on earth is Flair? Get more information here (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35871)!
Proudly display your shiny NEW Flair and show everyone that you’re meeting your goals!

NEW FLAIR GALLERIES! We've added a NEW member gallery for you to share your own custom flair! Just upload your png file to the Member Flair Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6680) so others can snag it! As well as galleries to post your Flair Cards (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6682) and your Extra Flair Holders (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6684) for easy linking!

NEW THEMES AND PROMPTS! To help you reach those goals, DSP wants to inspire you by providing themes and prompts throughout the year!
We'll feature a monthly theme, plus related weekly prompts, and daily suggestions to help you. By the end of 2009, you can be a master scrapper who has scrapped what YOU wanted, learned what YOU wanted, and achieved YOUR scrapping goals! You will find the themes listed on the Scrapolution Calendar (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/place/themes.shtml) and in the header on each page.

NEW SCRAPOLUTION FORUM! To keep all the goals, ideas, themes, flair, and fun all together, check out the NEW Scrapolution Forum here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=759)!

Good morning everyone,
I thought about it all night and I think my goal should be to work a little harder on my heritage pages to accomplish finishing at least one volume to be printed. I can't top my layouts more than I already did last year having produced over 500 layouts in 13 months, lol. That's a huge achievement in itself, lol.....
checked my account last night and counted and looking at the numbers I bought some DSP item EVERY OTHER DAY.....be it a page kit, or overlay or whatever......
so my goal for 2009 must be : looking at the favs. folder and finally lifting/creating some of those layouts.....and working on my heritage pages and taking some serious looks at the kits I now own. Most of them are resting in a folder which I never even looked at yet. Lol.
Looking at all this work ahead, I should go into hibernation, the task appears monumental.

Wow this is all so exciting!! When I was reading about the new Flair, I immediately thought of the movie Office Space!!! One of my favorites!! Now I'm going to have to think of a goal!!
Congrats to Erica!!! Welcome new designers!
Happy New Year Everyone!!

I wish I knew more about the file sizes! 200ppi VS 300ppi...pros-cons? help! Any advice?

JenniferG
01-01-2009, 12:18 PM
Well, since my joining in June 2007, I have created 400 layouts. My 400th layout was created on Dec 31. So my goal is to reach 1000 layouts this new year. So I need 600 layouts. I believe I can do it. No problem. Maybe I should set a harder goal and say 900 layouts, for 2009. I also want to get to 6000 posts this year. I'm over halfway there.

Congrats to Erica for becoming Senior Designer! Yay!!!

And, athough I will continue to use 200ppi products as I prefer that size to 300ppi, congrats to DSP for listening to the growing crowd desiring that DSP's awesome products be available to them at a larger ppi. It's awesome that they now have an option to choose one or the other. I don't know of any other digiscrap store that offers this. It's either 300ppi or nothing. You ladies are AWESOME!

Congrats to the new apprentice designers and the new full designers that were selected during the DSP Designer Finder Contest! How awesome that you're part of the amazingly creative DSP designer team!!!

Congrats Kathleen on being the January Member Spotlight! Woohoo for you!

And the flair idea is so funny and great at the same time. It made me remember that movie about the flair with Jennifer Aniston...what was it called? Office Space, right? LOL. So funny. I LOVE that movie. I'll definitely participate, but it may take me a minute to get my flair together...so my siggie will be a little old year until then....

I hope one of the new services is a printing service! I remember a poll DSP did last year about possibly offering this service. And how great to have your pages printed at the same place where you buy your products and create? A one stop shop.

And Happy New Year to all of you wonderful DSP'ers!

Try uploading it to your gallery and linking to it instead

Jeneeo
01-01-2009, 04:03 PM
I uploaded it to my gallery, tried linking it how I do in Forums posts by copying the image in my gallery and pasting it into the siggy box, but its even smaller. I'm going to take a break & I'll try later. I have a headache!

Meg
01-01-2009, 04:11 PM
Jeneeo, I think you're linking the thumbnail, not the full size. Though looking at your full size version, it's pretty big, maybe too big for a sig. Your's is 856 x 467, try reducing it to maybe 600 pixels wide at the most.

Then, upload, click on the thumbnail to get to the full size, right click and go to properties, use the URL address you find there to paste into your sig.

Hope this helps! Your's is super cute, I hope you get it to work!

sabina_canada
01-01-2009, 04:22 PM
Lol, I haven't got any idea and my head is swirling. Perhaps I should just work hard hard harder at producing my layouts and forget about the Flair bit. I just can't keep up. Maybe I try again later. I downloaded the card from Lauren and it's in my doc folder, but I can't seem to link it to my signature. Do I really have to have the Flair card if I just work on my layouts????

Margie
01-01-2009, 04:26 PM
no, you certainly don't have to use it! but if you do, just upload to your gallery, then right click it and copy the image location (or right click, properties, copy the location) and put that in your signature by clicking the image icon.

You've got the right link, you just need the "img" code around it. Highlight then Copy/Paste what I have below into your Edit Signature box and save it. It should work.

I have added my Flair to my signature. It looks a bit too big at the moment.
I will work on it some more tomorrow.

Sheesh, get suckered into working New Years Day, and volunteering the next day, come home and log in to DSP and BAM! Hot News! Then there's pages and pages of posts to catch up on and comments to make. Good thing this is fun or I'd complain. ;-)

Lessee, gotta get my flair, gotta set my goals, gotta bookmark the new Scrapolution Calendar, suppose I oughta change my avatar (again), and, oh yeah! CONGRATS NEW DESIGNERS! I'll have to make sure to check out the store once the new stuff hits it. Hopefully in time for me to use that wonderful 20.09% coupon on it?? *hinthintprettyplease*

Thank you so much for Scrapolution! I have been MIA from scrapping and DSP for a while-most of 2008. I have been lurking, but not really scrapping. I kinda lost motivation... But... I think you just got it back for me!! (I've already made my first store purchase for 2009) I love the idea of goal setting and themes. And I can't wait to see what classes you have in store! I hope there are some for PSP and photography.
Thanks again, Michelle

I'm a relative newbie to digital scrapbooking and am just loving all the inspiration you folks have given me. The designers, tutorials, freebies, etc. are just wonderful. Without you, I'd be at a loss of what to do. Thank you so much for this site and all it offers, I love it.

Thank you for the nice welcome Erica and Meryl. I'm excited as ever to find my way around DSP. I must say, there are beautiful pages everywhere I go on the site. I have to learn how to upload pages for everyone to see and also to participate in challenges. There is one particular scrapbook page that I did for my sister - who, get this - was feeling "not loved" because I had sent our other sister a homemade card which said "I love you" on it and the one I sent her only had my name on it. It was a Halloween card, I wanted it to be spooky, not lovey dovey!! So I set about making her a special page with a picture of her on it and a poem I made up. I made her promise to call me when she got it in the mail and opened it and she did. I sang the poem to her - same tune as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and she said "this is the nicest thing someone has ever done for me" and started crying. I told her, "see, I do love you, always and forever." She put it in a frame and displays it. The other sister, who got the card with I love you on it, now wants a page of her own!! It all just made me feel so good inside that I made it.

Well I don't mean to ramble on but it looks like that is exactly what I'm doing so I will end now. Have a great day.

Thank you for the wonderful welcome Erica and Meryl. As I said, I am super excited to learn more about digitals and my Corel program. That's how I found DSP to begin with. I was having trouble using the help screens and doing things in the Corel program. I got so frustrated by reading how to do something (type in a circle for example) on the help screen over and over and it just would not work on the program. Course I know also that it was me that was the problem, not the program (LOL). I finally just typed Corel.... in the browser line and found DSP tutorials. From there I started looking around at all the great stuff it has to offer. To help me even more, I went to a local bookstore and purchased a training manual for Corel. Gosh darn it, do you know if you actually start reading at page 1 and continue from there - you really do learn something. I was skipping all over the place in the manual and figured I should start at the beginning. One of the most important things I learned in those first few pages is what format to save things in so I'm able to go back and make changes to it. Duhhhhhh, you'd think at my age I'd know better than to start in the middle of the book!! So I'm off and running and hope to be able to post some things soon.

Thank you again for the wonderful welcome, it means a lot.

I think this Flair thing is great! However, like Sabina I can't get this. I had trouble adding signatures. :) So I will just stick to old method if that is ok.

Well this Scrapolution has made me decided to stop lurking and start doing. I've been too afraid of what people would think of my layouts, but I've made the goal to to 100 this year!
Here is to a great new year!

I just saw this. Very cool!

How about another little calendar widget with upcoming challenges, or even chats? Probably too much maintenance, but, hey a girl can dream, right?

Amen! I would love for the challenges to be on the google calendar. It would be so easy to add them to my calendar. We don't want much, do we??
